Mr. Olin Helms

CONCORD - Olin Downs Helms, 88, of 123 Woodland Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert Edsel will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Wilkinson Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.

The family will receive friends at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday. At other times they will be at the residence.

Born Nov. 13, 1910, in Cabarrus County, N.C., he was a son of the late E. T. "Zeke" and Molly Love Helms. He retired from Cannon Mills where he worked 55 years. He was a member of the Family of Faith Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Cline Helms, who died March 3, 1999, and twin daughters.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Helms of Concord and his wife, Betty; two grandchildren, Robbie Helms and Mitzi Talbert; and a great-grandchild, Paul Talbert.

Mrs. Helen Lanning

BADIN - Helen Lanning, 80, of 21 Tallassee, Badin, died Sunday Oct. 10, 1999 at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The Rev. Claud Dick will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Born March 6, 1919 in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Molly Roxanne Starnes Odell and Lawson Madison Odell.

She was a member of the Stanly County DAR, a long time member and past president of the Albemarle Women's Club and a member and past president of the Stanly Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She had served as a Sunday school teacher at Badin Baptist and Palmerville Baptist. Mrs. Lanning was known for her kind heart and gentle spirit, and she was loved deeply by her family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Her husband, Roy "Jack" Millard Lanning, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a number of nephews and nieces, including a great-niece, Debra Valentine of Concord.

Mrs. Irene Phillips

CONCORD - Irene Burrage Phillips, 85, of 31 Oak Drive, Concord, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Winfred Kimball and the Rev. James Shoemaker will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Wilkinson Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.

The family will receive friends at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 tonight.

Born Dec. 8, 1913, in Cabarrus County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late James Carpenter and Flossie Ritchie Burrage. She was a homemaker. She attended East Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of Bayless Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Phillips, and a son, Wayne Phillips.

Survivors include a daughter, Susie P. Jones of Concord; two sons, Larry Phillips and Cleary Phillips, both of Concord; two sisters, Margie Polk and Frances Williams, both of Concord; a brother, William Burrage of Winter Park, Fla.; six grandchildren, Cathy Clontz, Kim McCrary, Joseph Phillips, Mitch Phillips, Anne Michelle Rutemiller, and Michael Phillips; and eight great-grandchildren.

AUSTIN, Texas - Ruth Morton Clontz, 83, of Austin, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at Heartland Health Care Center in Austin. 

Services, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Monroe. Visitation 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

CONCORD - Annie L. Edwards, 77, of 325 Fox St., Concord, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at home. Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHINA GROVE - Talmadge Dewitt Rape, 89, of China Grove, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Mr. Jeffrey Smith

ROCKWELL - Jeffrey Wayne Smith, 29, of Rockwell, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 in an automobile accident in Rockwell.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shiloh United Church of Christ in Faith. The Rev. James Cress will officiate.

Born May 24, 1970 in Salisbury, he was a son of Patricia Thompson of Rockwell and Walter Fred Smith of Wilmington.

He was a graduate of Salisbury High School and studied at Buncombe Technical in Asheville.

He was employed as a plumber for Guy Turner Engineering of Greensboro. He was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Pansie Bame of Salisbury, a half brother, Chad Smith of Kannapolis, and a half sister, Gina Smith of Wilmington.

Mr. William Snipes

LANDIS - William Earl Snipes, 86, of 702 W. Rice St., Landis, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at Genesis Eldercare in Mooresville.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev. William Campbell will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Linn Honeycutt Colonial Chapel in Landis.

Born April 19, 1913 in Kannapolis, he was a son of the late Anne Snipes and William Edgar Snipes.

He graduated from Landis High School, and worked for Snipes Service Station, Fieldcrest Cannon Swink Plant #6 and Ted's Hardware.

He was a member of Eureka Lodge #283, Woodmen of the World and Freeze Seymore American Legion Post 105. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ.

His wife, Pauline "Polly" Pethel Snipes, died Aug. 7, 1983. A sister, Helen Snipes Dennis, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Danny "Carol" McCombs of Landis; a sister, Ikey Snipes Swain of Landis; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tyrone "Ronnie" Dunnmon

CONCORD - Tyrone "Ronnie" Preston Dunnmon, 62, of 2870 Walter Drive, N.W., Concord, died Monday afternoon, Nov.1, 1999, at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Keith Navey will officiate. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 tonight. At other times they will be at the residence.

Born May 31, 1937, in Cabarrus County, N.C., he was a son of the late Moses Preston and Minnie Talbert Dunnmon. He was retired from Ryder Trucking and former president of the Teamsters Union in Cincinatti, Ohio. He was a master Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mason, Ohio. He was a former member of Stokes Lodge Shriner, Oasis Temple. He was also a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Little Dunnmon; a daughter, Kim Stotesbury of Concord, three stepdaughters, Dianne Wallace of Salisbury, Sharon Powell of Kannapolis, and Donna Blackwelder of Harrisburg; two sisters, Elizabeth Mabry of China Grove and Vera Morrison of Fairfax, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Fairye Fuller

MOORESVILLE - Fairye Matthews Fuller, 70, of River Highway, Mooresville, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Iredell Memorial Gardens, Statesville, the Rev. Dan L. Freeman officiating. Visitation 6:30 to 8:30 tonight Cavin Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Miss Wilma Goble

CHINA GROVE - Wilma Estelle Goble, 78, of 417 W. Ketchie St., died Monday Nov. 1, 1999, at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. David Swygert will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a sister, Libbie Deal, of 140 Miller Road.

Born May 16, 1921, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Bedford Goble and Clara Della Hafer Goble. She was educated in High Point City Schools. She was retired from Cannon Mills, where she worked in the Folding Department.

Survivors, in addition to her sister, include a brother, Arthur Goble of Kannapolis.

Mr. Luther Leonard

KANNAPOLIS - Luther C. "Slim" Leonard, 93, of 517 Wright Ave., Kannapolis, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at NorthEast Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Townsend will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

The body will remain at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times they will be at his residence.

Born Aug. 19, 1906, in Union County, he was a son of the late Henry Calvin Leonard and Linda Pauline Cox Leonard.

He retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills plant no. 1 in 1985. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.

During his extended illness, Mr. Leonard was under the caring services of Cabarrus Home Health at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Nathilee Greene Leonard; two sons, Eddie Carroll Leonard of Kannapolis and Luther Marvin Leonard of Mobile, Ala.; a sister, Bessie Wolfe of Monroe; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.  Mrs. Willene Misenheimer

MOUNT PLEASANT - Willene Heintz Misenheimer, 73, of 440 Walker Road, Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at University Hospital in Charlotte.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Billy Ervin will officiate. Burial will be at Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity Church Cemetery.

Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Misenheimer was born in Cabarrus County Feb. 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Carl M. Heintz and Merle Lipe Heintz. She was a hairdresser and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist where she had been a member of the United Methodist Women.

A son, Terry Morrell, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Ray B. Misenheimer; a daughter, Mrs. Rhonda M. Earnhardt of Badin Lake; a brother, C. Carey Heintz and wife, Beverly, of Mount Pleasant; a stepson, Kenneth Misenheimer and wife, Patty, of Mount Pleasant; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Juanita Mullis and husband, John, of Concord; daughter-in-law Debbie Morrell of Concord; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mr. George Reid

CONCORD - George Randolph Reid, 72, of 3901 Heathcliff Road, Concord, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at Avante Nursing Center. Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Herman Sloop

KANNAPOLIS - Herman W. Sloop, 82, of 408 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Kannapolis, of which he was a member. The Rev. Brant Piper will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. At other times they will be at the residence.

Born April 23, 1917, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Waldo J. Sloop and Bessie Rogers Sloop. He owned and operated Herman Sloop Grading and Hauling for over 50 years. He was also a former deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church and served on various church committees over the years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a 1935 graduate of Cannon High School.

He was preceded in death by a brother, C.A. Sloop. 

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Morgan Sloop; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Sonia) S. Johnston of Mt. Gilead and Mrs. Arnold (Nancy) S. Byrd of Concord; six brothers, Jacob Sloop and J. D. Sloop, both of China Grove, Franklin Sloop of Rockwell, Guy Sloop of Landis, Jerry Sloop of Kannapolis, and Tommy Sloop of Nashville; six sisters, Ruth Thornburg of Surfside Beach, S.C., Louise Goodman, Margaret York, Thelma Honeycutt, and Linda Menius, all of Kannapolis, and Helen McGinnis of Statesville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Froza Tucker

STANFIELD - Froza Virginia Lambert Tucker, 77, of 24633 Ridgecrest Road, Stanfield, died at 9:17 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 at N.C. Lutheran Homes Inc.

Services will be graveside at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Ronald Russell will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times they will be at 24869 Millingport Road, the home of a sister, Zula L. Eudy.

Born April 7, 1922 in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Rosa Hatley Lambert and John Duke Lambert.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mission Baptist Church.

Her husband, Ralph William Tucker, died April 20, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Petrea of Concord; a son, John Tucker of Marshville; three sisters, Gatha Almond and Zula L. Eudy, both of Stanfield, and Eunnie Lambert Lambert of Harrisburg; and three grandchildren.
