WHITE LAKE - Margaret Brock Grimes, of 227 Woodlief Drive and formerly
of Tar Heel, died Monday, February 3, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center
in Wilmington. She was 73.
She was a member of Tar Heel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death
by her husband, David W. Grimes Sr.
The funeral service was held Thursday at 3 p. m. at McNeill Funeral
Home Chapel in St. Pauls, conducted by Rev. Walter Hayes. Burial was in
the Grimes family cemetery of Tar Heel.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by a daughter, Laura V. Grimes of White Lake;
a son, David Grimes Jr. of Tar Heel; two sisters, Mollie Garner of Tar
Heel and Mary Louise Saba of Toledo, Ohio; one granddaughter, Cynthia Grimes,
and one grandson, David Wingate Grimes.
McNeill Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
JESSIE NEIL BRYAN
BLADENBORO-Jessie Neil Bryan, 63, of 19445 NC 131 South, died Friday,
March 28, at his residence.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday at 3 p. m. at Benevolence
Cemetery, located on NC 131, Bladenboro.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Bryan; a daughter, Eva Bryan of
the home; a son, Bradley Bryan of Rocky Mount; a sister, Peggy McQueen
of Dublin; and two brothers, W. J . Bryan of Lexington and Ronald Bryan

STEPHEN EDISON DOWLESS
ELIZABETHTOWN -Stephen Edison Dowless Sr. died Wednesday, June 18,
at Mariner Health Care in Wilmington. He was 76.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet D. Winstead. He was retired
from the construction business.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a. m. at Bladen Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. Ken Hall officiating.
Mr. Dowless is survived by his wife, Edna Earl Dowless; three sons,
Steve Dowless, Wilbur Dowless and Michael Dowless, all of Center Road;
two sisters, Barbara Wilson of Waco, Texas, and Frances Knight of Robbins;
a brother, Woody Dowless Jr. of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held tonight (Friday) from 6 till 8 p. m. at Kinlaw
Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

FAYETTEVILLE - Dale G. McGill, 47, of 4891 Fogarty Drive, died Wednesday,
March 26, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p. m. at Savannah Temple AME
Zion Church of Clarkton. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his brothers, Bennie McGill of Elizabethtown, Carnell
McGill and Carl McGill, both of Brooklyn, N. Y., and David McGill of Fayetteville,
and a sister, Marcella McGill of Clarkton.

BLADENBORO - Brenda Lewis Palmer, of 109 Walnut Street, died Sunday,
June 1, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. She was 35.
The funeral will be conducted today (Friday) at 3 p.m. at Bryant Swamp
Baptist Church with Dr. Thurman Everette officiating. Burial will be in
Singletary Cemetery of Butters.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Palmer; her mother, Judy A. Gill
of Bladenboro, and her father, James Edward Lennon of Lumberton; a brother,
Bobby A. Gill of Atlanta; three sisters, Angela Underwood and Kenia Davis,
both of Lumberton, and Felicia White of Ft. Jackson, S. C.

RICHMOND, Va. - Mary Inez Davis, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Monday,
June 16, at Beaufont Health Center in Richmond. She was 83.

Methodist Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
She is survived by a brother, Charles R. Davis Jr. of Reedsville, Va.

WHITE LAKE-Elaine Joy Long, 64, of 25 Jamie Junction, died Tuesday,
February 4, at Bladen County Hospital.
She was a native of South Africa, a daughter of the late Daniel and
Jessie Lenox Bekker. She was a homemaker.

CLINTON-Allen Lee Honeycutt, 69, of 902 Powers Street, died Sunday,
March 30, at the Mary-Gran Nursing Center.
He was a native of Sampson County, a son of the late Rufus Allen and
Laudie Parker Honeycutt. He was an automobile mechanic and a member of
Mt. Moriah Methodist Church.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a. m. today (Tuesday) at the
Clinton City Cemetery with the Rev. E. C. Mattocks officiating.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Leggett of Elizabethtown; three
sons, Jimmy Honeycutt of Charlotte and Tony Honeycutt and Ronnie Honeycutt,
both of Clinton; four sisters, Edna H. McKoy of Wilmington, and Mary H.
Pope, Margaret H. Underwood and Alma H. Naylor, all of Clinton; and eight

Home. She was 45.

She is survived by her mother, Pearlene B. Cartrette of Chadbourn;

GARLAND - Clarence D. McKoy, 59, of 177 Center Street, died Tuesday,
March 25, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
He was born August 14,1943, in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of the late

a brother, Walter A. McKoy Jr. of Philadelphia.
The public will be received from 1 till 7 p. m. at Carter Funeral Home
in Garland, and at other times at the home.

WHITEVILLE - James Lee Rose, 52, of 1467 Mill Pond Road, died Wednesday,
March 26, at Columbus County Hospital.
He was a farmer.
The funeral will be conducted at 12 noon today (Tuesday) at Peoples
Funeral Home Chapel in Whiteville. Burial will be in Campground cemetery.
Mr. Rose is survived by two sons, Jimmy Rose of Loris, S. C., and Kenny
B. Hardy of Fayetteville; a daughter, Stephanie Rose of Loris; and six
sisters, Barbara Graham, Estella Singleton, Bernice Rose, and Marie Rose,
all of Whiteville, Ada Baldwin of Clarkton, and Mary Fortune of New York.

ORRUM-Isla Lane Gray, 84, of 14743 NC 72 East, died Saturday, March
29, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
The funeral was conducted Monday at 2 p. m. at Mount Elam Baptist Church
by the Rev. Bob Taylor. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Lewis Gray and Glen Gray, both of Orrum;
four daughters, Elizabeth Strange of Newport News, Va., Lois Williamson
of Chadbourn, Dianne Johnson of Bladenboro, and Susan Parker of Evergreen;
a brother, Douglas Lane of Lumberton; four sisters, Inez Gray of Fayetteville,
Ithama Ivey of Proctorville, Myrtle Strickland of Lumberton, and Irene
Hayes of Evergreen; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
