Mr. Bower was born in Ashe County to George Cecil Bower and Hettie Bare Bower. He was a saw mill operator. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Phipps Bower of the home; two sons, David Pell Bower, Jefferson, and Dickie Bower, Greensboro; a daughter, Jane Ann Coe, Boone; a brother, Kenneth Bower, West Jefferson; five sisters, Ruby Little and Audrey Hurley, both of Jefferson, Madge McNeill, West Jefferson, Ann Smith, Easten, Md., and Wanda Waldenburger, Landrum, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jason Bower, Erin Bower, Corbin Coe and Bower Coe; and several nieces and nephews

Eunice Bessie Yates Barker, 89, was remembered at funeral services held Nov. 26 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Warrensville. Rev. Bill Ballou and Rev. George Grubb officiated. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson.

Mrs. Barker was born in Ashe County to Benjamin Cleveland and Rettie Rash Yates. She was retired from Sprague Electric Company and was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Thomas Barker.

She is survived by four sons, Thomas Glenn Barker, Puyallup, Wash., Robert Jackson Barker, Elkton, Md., Bennie Lee Barker, Warrensville, and John Dexter Barker, West Jefferson; three daughters, Polly Davis, Englewood, Fla., Florence Powers, Warrensville, and Bonnie Jane Holliday, Greenville, Va.; two sisters, Della Jones, Warrensville, and Florence Ashley, Salem, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Miller was born in Ashe County to J.C. and Donna Stidhams Miller. He was a truck driver and farmer. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by a daughter, Haley Elizabeth Miller of Lansing; his mother, Donna Stidhams Miller, Lansing; a brother, Tony Miller, Lansing; maternal grandmother, Allie Stidhams, Lansing; maternal great-grandmother, Della Adkins, Branchland, W. Va.; honorary sister, Greta Miller Dunn, Warrensville; one niece, Samatha Miller; one nephew, Zak Miller; honorary nephew, Austin Clark; honorary nieces, Heather and Brittany Stidhams; and several uncles and aunts.

Mr. Bare was born in Ashe County to William Judson Bare and Callie Ada Wyatt Bare. He was the janitor at Jefferson Elementary School.

He is survived by his wife, Cordie Mae McMillan Bare of the home; three sons, William D. Bare Jr., Crumpler, Crieg Bare, High Point, and Rev. Mac Bare, Durham; a daughter, Alice Ann Sexton, Eden; two brothers, Arnold O. Bare, Aitkin, Minn., and Rudd J. Mrs. Gilley was born in Ashe County to Fred Weaver and Ola Perry Weaver. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lee Gilley.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Dean Gilley and Ricky Lee Gilley, both of Elkton, Md.; a daughter, Patricia Campbell, North Wilkesboro; a brother, Roger Weaver, Lansing; a sister, Alma Jean Miller, Lansing; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild and three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hartzog was born in Ashe County to Howard Hartzog and Jennie Hartzog. He was a retired supervisor at Gate’s Rubber Company in Jefferson. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Carpenter Hartzog of the home; four daughters, Brenda Summerlin, Rocky Mount, Debbie Blackburn, Crumpler, Sandy Bower, Jefferson, and Amanda Beth Church, West Jefferson; his mother, Jennie Hartzog, Segraves Nursing Care Center; three brothers, Dudley Hartzog, Lady Lake, Fla., Terry Hartzog and Randy Hartzog, both of West Jefferson; a sister, Dawna Benedict, West Jefferson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred Eugene Lewis, 81, passed away at Coquina Center in Ormond Beach, Fla.

Mr. Lewis was born in Winston-Salem. He was a retired manufacturer’s representative for Seilig Chemical Co. in Atlanta, Ga. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force. His hobbies included golfing and playing the piano.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Lewis; one son, Fred Lewis Jr., Winston-Salem; one daughter, Susan Bamford, Keystone Heights, Fla.
