Dees

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Herman Buford Dees, 76, of Greenville, a retired deputy sheriff, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. He died of heart failure Aug. 31, 2001, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Calhoun Church Cemetery, Hot Coffee.

Mr. Dees was born in Taylorsville, Miss., and graduated from Salem High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he became a Naval Reserve training officer until 1962. A resident of Greenville since 1956, he was employed with the Greenville Police Department from 1962 to 1975. He then transferred to the Greenville Fire Department, where he was assistant fire marshal until retiring in 1985. He then worked as a deputy sheriff with the Washington County Sheriff's Department before being elected constable in 1989. He retired in 1998. He was a Baptist, and a member of the Elks Lodge, the Greenville Yacht Club, the Italian Club, Shriners, Masons, and the American Legion. He was past president of the Mississippi Constable Association.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Valentine Dees of Greenville; one daughter, Sylvia Dees Sessums of Greenville; one son, Herman Mike Dees of Ridgeland; two sisters, Bessie Kite of Blacksburg, Va., and Peggy Quick of Collins; one brother, Ranson Dees of Hot Coffee; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Scott

LELAND -- Graveside services for Lillian Juanita Blaylock Scott, 72, of Leland were Thursday at 2 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Winona. She died of heart failure Aug. 28, 2001, at her home. Burial was under the direction of Oliver Funeral Home, Winona.

Mrs. Scott was born in Montgomery County, Miss., to Montee Blaylock and the late Walter Leo Blaylock. She was a retired supervisor of Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Leland, and was the widow of Jack Scott.

Survivors include her mother, Montee Blaylock of Winona, and one brother, Bennie Blaylock of Winona.

Stovall

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Lela K. Stovall, 79, of Indianola were Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Beulah Church, Indianola. She died Aug. 23, 2001, at her home. Burial was in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include four daughters, Victoria Brown, Lottie B. Clay and Lindell King, all of Indianola, and Theresa Davis of Chicago; two sons, Wilson Stovall Jr. of Chicago and John B. Hill of Indianola; and one brother, John Thomas of Jackson.

She died July 23, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vert Armstrong, and a granddaughter, Farnieca Armstrong.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving husband, George Armstrong Sr. of Greenville; one sister, Verna Harrison of Memphis; two daughters, Hattie Jackson of Greenville and Addie Hudson of Chicago; five sons, George (Yvonne) Armstrong of Indianola, Jimmy (Barbara) Armstrong of White Plains, N.Y., Sam (Ollie) Armstrong and Johnny (Dorothy) Armstrong, both of Greenville, and Henry (Cuvator) Armstrong of Gaithersburg, Md.; 30 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family hour will be today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Dillon Funeral Home, Greenville. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.

GREENVILLE Funeral services for Rosie Lee Atkins, 66, of Greenville will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Sisson Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. She died July 20, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph Franklin Jr. and Willie Callerhan, both of Greenville, and James Franklin of Indianola; four daughters, Almeter Callerhan, Ruby Atkins, Earlene Atkins and Ruthie Atkins, all of Greenville; one brother, James Howard of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

INDIANOLA Funeral services for Donald Rex Barrett Jr., 38, of Indianola will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Card Funeral Home, Indianola. He died of heart failure July 24, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Brenda and Donald Barrett Sr. of Indianola; his grandmothers, Virginia Dickerson of Eupora and Idessie Barrett of Greenwood; one sister, Melissa Hodges of Indianola; and one brother, John Barrett of Indianola.

Bennett

FLORA Funeral services for James Woodrow Bennett Sr., 59, of Flora, a retired highway patrolman, will be today at 7 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home chapel, Clinton. He died July 23, 2002, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

A native of Winona, Miss., Mr. Bennett graduated from Greenville High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and entered the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol in 1964, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Flora Baptist Church, and an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Bennett of Flora; one son, James W. "Jay" Bennett Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Flowood, Miss.; two grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Bennett; his mother, Margaret Bennett of Greenville; and one sister, Shirley and her husband T.C. Griffin of Greenville.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Clinton.

DREW Funeral services for Annie Irene Brister, 84, of Drew will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Morning Star Church of God In Christ, Cleveland. She died July 22, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Drew City Cemetery under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville.

Survivors include two sons, Othir Brister and Willie B. Brister, both of New York, N.Y.; one stepson, Ollie B. Brister of Cotton Plant, Ark.; one daughter, Annie B. Booker of Drew; one brother, Graham Brown of New York, N.Y.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ms. Johnson was born Feb. 28, 1948, in New Orleans, La., to the late Sam Johnson Sr. and Catherine Johnson. She was raised in Glen Allan, Miss., and she eventually made Greenville her home. She attended O'Bannon High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James Davis, Melvin Johnson, Elijah Johnson; a sister, Shirley Johnson; and her grandmother, Magnolia Young.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Johnson and Goldia Johnson, both of Greenville, and Virginia Johnson of Irving, Texas; three sons, Leon (Kela) Johnson of Alabaster, Ala., and Issac (Regenia) Johnson and Robert (Lakesha) Johnson, both of Greenville; four sisters, Ida Bea Polland of Greenwood, Sadie Johnson of Chicago, Irene Parish of Greenville and Marie Barnes of Grace; nine brothers, Daniel Johnson, Larry Johnson, Ralph Johnson and Charles Johnson, all of Grace, McArthur Davis and Alonzo Johnson, both of Glen Allan, Arthur Johnson of Delaware, Charlie Johnson of New Orleans and Sam Johnson Jr. of Greenville; six grandchildren, William Johnson, Xavier Johnson, Ebony Fults, Lanarrian Williams, Larue Williams and Larona Ishmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Myers

CLEVELAND Funeral services for J.D. Myers, 55, of Cleveland will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Vernon Memorial Church, Cleveland. He died July 19, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Gardens, Cleveland, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Mr. Myers was a veteran of the United States Army, and fought in the Vietnam War. While serving his country, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 DVC, Vietnam Service Medal and as an M-16 and M-14 expert. He attended Cleveland public schools prior to joining the Army. He was employed by DuoFast Corporation.

Survivors include four daughters, Euree Myers and Geraldine Wimes, both of Chicago, and Ju'Deiah Myers and Beatrice Williams, both of Cleveland, Miss.; two sons, Kenyon Williams of Detroit and Michael Perry of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. The body will lie in state Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

She died July 22, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

"Mrs. T" was born Oct. 9, 1915, to the late Harrison and Carrie Brooks. She was a clerk at Brown's Pastry Shop for over 30 years. She was a resident of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ethel (Herman) Ganison of Greenville; one goddaughter, Irene Walker of Metcalfe; four granddaughters, Trinia Ganison Roberts and Tyira Ganison, both of Dallas, Valerie (Greg) Tidewell of Dunkinville, Texas, and Stephine Ceasar of Jackson, Miss.; two grandsons, Eric (Amy) Ganison of Richardson, Texas, and Herman (Bridgette) Ganison of Greenville; four great-granddaughters, Queenice, Tyrichia, DeAndria and Kiara; four great-grandsons, DeKendrick, Devante, Devron and Herman III; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Blandy Brooks of Greenville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.

She died July 21, 2002, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral home, Indianola.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond Watkins of Chicago and Johnny Watkins of Indianola; two daughters, Armanda Keaton of Cleveland, Ohio, and Alice Carruthers of Chicago; four sisters, Leanna Buchanon and Q.C. Griffin, both of South Bend, Ind., Betty Jean McIntosh of Mesquite, Texas, and June Taylor of Blytheville, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Worbington

GREENVILLE Funeral services for Mary Louise Worbington, 66, of Greenville, a retired switchboard operator, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. She died of heart failure July 24, 2002, at her daughter's home in Mantachie. Burial will be in Lakeview Gardens Cemetery, Greenville.

Mrs. Worbington was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Sunflower County, to the late Forrest and Lilla Clark. She moved to the Riverside area at an early age with her parents. She attended school at Riverside School. She was a retired answering service switchboard operator. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church on Gamari Road in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Worbington, in 1994; two sisters, Alice French and Maybell Mitchell; and two brothers, Jim Clark and Buddy Clark.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Janice) Worbington of Memphis; three daughters, Gail (James) White of Greenville, and Fay (Billy) Blaylock and May Hamby, both of Mantachie, Miss.; one sister, Ethel Gafford of Avon; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.
