CHRISTIAN WADE BROWN
Christian Brown died on January 21, 2002 in his home, after a long
illness. He was born on May 24, 1993 in Springfield, Missouri to James
Michael and Stephanie Dawn Hedrick Brown, He was preceded in death by his
maternal grandmother, Barbara Gail Essary Hedrick. His survivors include
is parents, a brother, Jacob Michael Brown and a sister Emily Gail Brown
all of the family home, his paternal grandparents James and Pamela Brown
of Marionville, his maternal grandfather, Joe Hedrick, three uncles, Clinton
Hedrick, David Brown, and McKinley Hedrick, two aunts, Wendy Schoen and
Janea Coker, and several cousins, his great grandmothers, Kay Brown of
Aurora and Pauline Essary of Ash Grove, and his caregiver, Linda Gray of
Mt. Vernon, Mo. Funeral services for Christian Wade Brown of Nixa, Missouri,
were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2002 in the Williams Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. Ed. Edwards officiating, burial followed in the Mars
Hill Cemetery near Crane, Missouri.
JOE L. BUTLER
Joe L. Butler, 81, Carthage, died Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at McCune
Brooks Hospital. Mr. Butler was born June 13, 1920, at Crane, Mo., to John
Butler and Ina Garrison. He was the plant manager in Carytown for MFA for
17 years. He also owned and operated several gas stations in Carthage as
well as mowing yards after his retirement. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Carthage and the Jasper VFW. He married Mary D. Haddock,
in 1939, and she survives. One brother preceded him in death. Other survivors
include two sons, Joe D. Butler and John C. Butler, both of Carthage; a
daughter, Patsy Grimes, Owassa, Okla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Carthage,
with Dr. Keith Miles officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
Memorials are suggested to the Little Folks Daycare in care of the funeral
home.
GERTRUDE DOTSIE BAKER CLICK
Gertrude Dotsie Baker Click died at 6:42 p.m. Tuesday January 22, 2002,
in the Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville, at the age of 94 years, eight
months and five days old. Mrs. Click, was born on May 17, l907 in Mt. Home,
Arkansas to Andrew Henry and Hettie Belle Dewey Baker. She was a homemaker
and attended the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband,
parents, and a son, Jackie Click and a daughter, Donna Barber. Her survivors
include four sons: Richard Click of Aurora, Mo., Charles Click of Shell
Knob, Mo., Bruce Click and Jerry Click, both of Lees Summit, Mo., four
daughters, Anita Hall of Pueblo, Colorado, Linda Gladfelter of Mt. Union,
Pennsylvania, Irwannah Bravener of Point Roberts, Washington, Laurel Stockton
of Shell Knob, Mo., two brothers, Robey Baker of Fowler, Colorado and Elvis
Baker of Rocky Ford, Colorado, two sisters, Lillian Profits of Portland,
Oregon and Jewel Stockton of Pueblo, Colorado, 26 grandchildren and 45
great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Gertrude Dotsie Baker Click of
Marionville, were at 10:00 Monday, January 28, 2002 in the Griffy Fowler
Chapel in Fowler, Colorado, burial will follow in the Fowler Cemetery,
local arrangements, were under the directions of the Williams Funeral Home
of Marionvile, Missouri.
OSCAR D. CURBOW
Mr. Curbow, 84, died at his home on Wednesday, January 23, 2002. Oscar
Devern Curbow was born to David M. and Reitha (Wright) Curbow on a farm
near Hurley, Mo. on February 5, l917. He lived his youth on the family
farm, attending Union City Grammar School and Hurley High School Loss of
sight in one eye prevented his serving in the military during WWII, but
he served his country by working in the North American Aviation Co. Defense
Plant of Kansas City. His deep Christian faith led him into the ministry
for the Church of the Nazarene. For a number of years, he served as pastor
of churches in Missouri and Kansas. Under his leadership a new Nazarene
church was built in Union City. Later he settled in the Springfield area
and became a partner in the Mid-America Business College. Later on a farm
near Ozark he became a successful dairy farmer. During his entire life
he had a love of animals. After retirement, he moved to Branson where he
worked at Silver Dollar City. There he was a favorite of visitors who came
back year after year to chat with him. Many will remember Oscar's Lemonade
Stand in the summers as his hot Wassail Stand in the winters. He liked
people and people liked him. He had a sense of humor that always brought
a smile and a laugh. 1914 in Stone County, Mo. Verla was a lifelong resident
of the Crane area except for a 2-year period when she was with her son
in Illinois. In l995 Verla went to live with her daughter in Olathe, Kans.
and had been a resident at Good Samaritan Center since l998. She was a
member of the Crane Bible Church and attended Overland Park Baptist Temple
and Basehor Baptist Church while living in Kansas. Verla was preceded in
death by her husband of 21 years, Barry C. Hilton, in l954 and her husband,
Fred R. Ehrhart to whom she was also married 21 years, in l988 and one
grandchild, Ann Hilton of Decatur, Ill. Survivors include: three children,
Glen Robert Hilton and his wife, Dolores of Decatur, Ill., Mary Ina Harrell
and her husband, Greg of Olathe, Kans., and Annabell Hilton of Nashua,
NH; a brother, Rudolph Wildman of Moro, Ill.; a half sister, Vaneta Peters
of Crane; seven grandchildren, Laura Boyd of Oreana, Ill., Susan Dicks
of Pawnee, Ill., Lynda Reynolds of Birmingham, Al., Ronald Spragg of Olathe,
Kans., Barry Harrell of Shawnee, Kans., Stephanie Ballinger of Springfield,
Mo. and James Robinson of Nashua, NH, 12 great-grandchildren and a host
of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday,
January 26, 2002 in Manlove-Stumpff Chapel, Crane with Rev. Tom Mitchell
officiating. Burial was in Crane Community Cemetery under the direction
of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, Crane, Mo. or Olathe Good Samaritan
Center, 20705 W. 151st St., Olathe, Kans. 66061.
REBECCA JANE WILSON HELMICK
Rebecca Jane Wilson Helmick died at 8:38 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2002
in the Aurora Community Hospital at the age of 79 years, 10 months and
11 days old. She was born on March 10, l922 in Glenville, West Virginia
to Elbin Jerome and Eva Woodyard Wilson. She attended the United Methodist
Church in Aurora and was a school cook. She was married to Floyd S. Helmick,
and he preceded her in death on March 14, l984. Her survivors include two
daughters, Kay Halfpapp of Marionville and Beverly Jeppson of West Hills,
California and a son, Thurman Edward Helmick of Panorama City, California,
12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Rebecca
Jane Wilson Helmick of Marionville, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, January
25, 2002 in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Lee officiating,
interment followed in the Marionville I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction
of the Williams Funeral Home of Marionville.
HENRY (HANK) LOUIS KOERBER
Henry Louis (Hank) Koerber, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, January
27, 2002 in the Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville. He was 73. He was
born in Meta, Missouri on November 13, l928 to Henry Joseph and Barbara
Ann Haller Koerber. He was married on February 4, l956 in St. Louis, Mo.,
to the former, Lawonda Louise Cooper. Hank was preceded in death by his
parents. He was an Off Set Cartographer for the Civil Service, and a member
of the First United Methodist Church of Marionville. His survivors include
his wife Lawonda of the home, two son's and their wives, Michael and Barbara
Koerber of Westford, Ma., and Mark and Donna Koerber of Linn, Mo., a daughter,
Kathy Mullin Lozano of Sacramento, Calif., seven grandchildren, Michael
Jr., and Lisa Marie of Westford, Ma., James and Brian Bennett of Calif.,
Kelly, Kristen and Kara Mullin of Calif., one great-granddaughter, Maranda
Bennett of Calif., two sisters, Betty Ann Redel of Westphalia, Mo., and
Angela Weschmeyer of Freeburg, Mo., and a half brother, Robert Vermoilen
of St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January
31, 2002 in the First United Methodist Church in Marionville, with the
Revs. Thad Carter and Linda Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the
Marionville I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of the Williams Funeral
Home of Marionville.
DOROTHY M. MYERS
Dorothy M. Myers, 86, of Raytown, Mo. passed away January 19, 2002
in a Blue Springs hospital after a short illness. She was born April 6,
l915 in Stone County close to Crane, Mo. to Harve and Gertie Garner. Dorothy
was a member of North Blvd. United Methodist Church in Independence, Mo.
She graduated from Crane High School in l934. During World War II she worked
at Lake City packing bullets and then she worked for Sears in Kansas City.
She retired in l972 after 26 years with Sears. Dorothy married Robert Myers
February 10, l961. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her
parents, a sister Nola Sylvester, two brothers Elmer and Gene Garner. She
is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Bertha Hawley, two
sisters-in-law, Noveta Garner and Mary Garner and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a member of North Blvd United Methodist Church in Independence,
Mo. Services were held in Floral Hills Chapel in Kansas City, Mo. on January
22, 2002. Officiating were the Rev. Judith Lloyd and the Rev. Mark Moon.
Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Mo. Attending
services for Dorothy Myers were Noveta Garner, Mary Garner, Frankie and
Joyce Hooten, Janet Bassett, James and Genese Garner, Joe Garner and Scott
Garner all of Crane.
HARLEY C. "BUD" SCHNELL
Harley C. "Bud" Schnell, Kimberling City, Mo., 88 past away at 5:20
a.m., Monday, January 21, 2002 in Tablerock Retirement Village after a
5-year illness. Bud was born May 29, 1913 in Whitewater, Kansas. After
graduating high school, Bud enlisted in the Army Air Corps in March, l940.
He attended technical school in the 3718th and became an instructor in
single engine planes. He spent 15 months over seas in the European theatre
and was entitled to wear the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal
and Good Conduct Medal. Bud was discharged as a Master Sergeant at Fort
Logan, Co. in September of 1945. Bud met Mazelle Moelling and was united
in marriage, March 28, 1941. He enjoyed all music and was an active singer
in barbershop quartets in which he was a tenor with the Keenagers in Kimberling
City. Bud was with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas as a supervisor on
flight test for 18 years. After moving to Table Rock Lake in l963, he owned
and operated AAA Marine for 21 years. He was in "WHO'S WHO" in Missouri
in l974. Bud was a member of Kimberling City United Methodist Church and
a member of Kimberling City Elks Lodge #2505. He was a 32nd degree Mason
and a Shriner. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest
daughter Marianne Spradling. Survivors include: his wife Hazelle of the
home; two daughters Sandy Schnell and Nancy George, both of Kimberling
City; two granddaughters, Brenna Rogers of Ozark and Pam Askren of Willard;
six wonder great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. Memorial services
were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2002 in Kimberling City United
Methodist Church. Final disposition was cremation under the direction of
Stumpff Funeral Home-South Kimberling City. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to: Shriners Burn Institute for Children, 3229

WALTER JUNIOR MCKNIGHT
Walter Junior McKnight, 55, Verona, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2002
at 2:47 p.m. in a local doctors office. He was born December 15, 1946 in
Crane, Mo. to the Rev. Walter Ralph and Elsie Faye Daugherty McKnight.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents. He was a lifelong area farmer,
a local auctioneer for 34 years owning McKnight Auction Company and worked
for Syntex Agri Business for 29 years. He was a member of the Aurora Canopy
Lodge #248, a 32 Degree Mason. He loved spoiling his grandchildren, farming,
coon hunting and working auctions. He married Sharon Kay Coffman on May
8, l964 in Crane, and she survives. They shared 38 years of marriage. Other
survivors are three sons: Jerry Wayne McKnight and his wife, Lori of Monett,
Keith Alan McKnight and his wife, Holly of Monett, Kevin Dale McKnight
of Belle Fountaine, Ohio; one daughter, Deborah Sue McKnight of Monett;
five grandchildren, Lukus McKnight, Makenna McKnight, Jacob Smith, Kelby
McKnight and Kyler McKnight; one brother, Ralph Lee McKnight of Verona;
two sisters, Nancy Faye Blair of Crane and Mary Ilene Moore of Anderson,
S. C. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26 in the Verona High School
Gym, and were officiated by the Rev. Ray Moore. Burial was in Crane Community
Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to K. U. Medical Center Primary
Pulmonary Hypertension.
KENNETH NEAL STONE
Kenneth Neal Stone, 60, of Aurora died Thursday, May 23, 2002 in his
home. He was born to Dan and Dorothy Jones Stone on August 9, l941 in Reeds
Spring, Mo. He was a dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy of Reeds Spring; his wife Vicky of
Aurora; two sons, Darin Stone and wife Donna of Aurora, and Tracy Stone
of Aurora; one daughter Debbie Newbold and husband Kevin of Aurora; two
brothers, Bob Stone and wife Ginger of Spokane, Mo. and Bill Stone and
wife DeEtta of Reeds Spring; one sister, Kathy Branstetter and husband
Stephen of Reeds Spring; eight grandchildren, Shea Newbold, Derica Stone,
Travis Merrick, Dayla Stone, Kyle Newbold, Dustin Stone, Kris Stone and
Meghan Newbold. Funeral services was held May 27 at 2 p.m. in the Elm Branch
Christian Church under the direction of Peterson Funeral Chapel. Burial
will be at a later date in Maple Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations
may be made to Elm Branch Christian Church.
DORIS PILKENTON COOK
Doris Cook, 78, of Springfield, Mo. passed away Friday, November 16
[2001] in her home after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She
was born in Douthat, Okla. on September 5, l923, the fourth of eight children
born to Fritz and Sadie Pilkerton. Doris was a l941 graduate of Crane High
School, a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, avid golfer,
beloved bridge player, 30 year Amway distributor, handbag saleslady, and
laundromat proprietor. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, two
sisters, Chloe and Freda; a brother, Derril; her husband Jim; and her youngest
daughter, Cindy. She is survived by two daughters, Toni Mackie and her
husband Dave, Ventura, Calif.; and Terri Brader and husband Neal, Springfield,
Mo., seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, her sisters Georganna
Brashers, Marionville, Ethel Jordan and Angela Williams, and her brother
J. D. Pilkenton all of Aurora, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial
celebration was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20 in Gorman-Scharpt
Brentwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, it was Doris' wish that contributions

CHARLES EDWARD KINSER
Charles Edward Kinser, Galena, Mo. departed this life November 22,
2001 in his home at the age of 74 years, one month and six days. He was
the son of Raymond and Orpha (Murphy) Kinser and was born October 16, 1927
in Springfield, Mo. Charles was a business owner and of the Baptist faith.
He was united in marriage to Raquel Vela, February 7, l962 and they had
made their home in the area the past 27 years coming from Arizona. Survivors
include: his wife, Raquel of the home; one son, Al Kinser of Crane; two
daughters, Martina Lewis of Kimberling City and Deeda Kane of Columbus,
Ohio; one sister, Wynonna Inmon of Springfield; nine grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. No services
are planned. Final disposition was cremation under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff
Funeral Home, Crane.
LEE EFTON MARTIN
Lee Efton Martin, 81, Crane, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, November 23,
2001 in Cox Walnut Lawn Hospital, Springfield. He was born January 22,
l910 in Stone County, Missouri, the second child of Thomas Efton Martin
and Hazel Edna Gold. He was a farmer and machinist, retiring from Lily
Tulip Cup Manufacturing, where he was known as Dad Martin from 1957 until
l985. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was a member
of the Crane Bible Baptist Church. He was married to Nellie Clevenger December
22, 1944 and they made their home in the Crane area. He was preceded in
death by his parents, a daughter, Karen Arganbright, and two grandsons,
David Nathan Arganbright and Bryan Kasinger. He is survived by his wife,
Nellie; six children, Edna Mayne, Crane, Marge Kasinger, Billings, Charles
Martin, Crane, Jean Stapp, Neosho, Randy Martin, Blackfoot, Idaho, and
Dennis Martin, Springfield; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four
sisters, Vena Machenheimer, Bertha Andrews, Eva Wallberg, and Inez Rice,
all of Seattle, Washington. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, November
26, 2001 in Crane Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Sharp officiating,
under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Billings. Burial was in Oak
Grove Cemetery, Crane, with military honors. Memorial contributions may
be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery.
LORETTA CHRISTINE BLADES NEWTON
Loretta Christine Blades Newton died at 1 a.m. Monday, November 26,
2001 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield at 80 years old. She was born
to Elizah L. and Edna Justus Blades on February 9, l921 in Marionville,
Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Earl and Fred
Blades. Her survivors include her son and his wife, Jerry and Sharon Newton
of Marionville, her daughter, Royetta Pendergrass of Bentonville, Ark.,
five grandchildren; Melissa Barke, Sherri Kesterson, Greg Newton, Hollie
Gunter, Lisa Massey, seven great-grandchildren, Charsha, Chad, Ryan, Kalyn,
Kiley, Connor and Madison, a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Springer.
Graveside services for Loretta Christine Blades Newton of Marionville,
was at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2001 in the Marionville I.O.O.F.
Cemetery, under the direction of the William's Funereal Home of Marionville.
DUDLEY WYATT "DUB" PETERS
Dudley Wyatt "Dub" Peters, Crane, Mo. passed away at 3:15 a.m., Sunday
November 25, 2001 in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, at
the age of 82 years. He was born April 29, 1919 in Stone County to Amos
Layfette and Jessie May (Brown) Peters. Mr. Peters was a lifelong resident
of Crane and was Postmaster from 1945 to 1983. He was an active member
of the American Legion Post 413, Lions Club and served 50 years on the
Crane Broiler Festival Committee. He was an elder and treasurer in the
Crane Christian Church where he was a member for over 70 years. He served
in the Army Air Force from l941 to l945. He was a member of the 2nd Air
Service Squadron, Fifth Air Force, stationed in the South Pacific. Prior
to his Air Force service he spent one year in the 2nd Cavalry in Fort Riley,
Kansas. Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Augustine; two daughters Deborah
Merrill land her husband, Tom of Topeka, Kans. and Denise Reinert and her
husband John of Billings, Mo.; two grandchildren, Amanda Powell and her
husband, David of Fayetteville, N.C. and Kyle Reinert of Billings, Mo.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2001 in Crane
Christian Church with burial in Crane Community Cemetery under the direction
of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane. Memorial contributions may be made
