Betty Brock
Betty J. Brock, 68, 1104 N. Florida Ave., died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West after a long illness. Ms. Brock was born Jan. 4, 1928, at Duenweg, and was a lifetime area resident. She was a Baptist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Brock, Joplin, and Carl Brock, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, Linda Felker, Joplin; a brother, Jim Gilliam, Joplin; two sisters, Imogene Elmore, Sapulpa, Okla., and Doris Bernard, Hammond, La.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The Rev. Robert Hendrix will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. Pallbearers will be Chad Brock, Brian Brock, Denny Felker, Danny Felker, Jim Heath and David Gilliam. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Barney Gilpin
Barney T. Gilpin, 71, Joplin, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at his home after a short illness. Mr. Gilpin was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Joplin. He was a lifelong Joplin resident. He owned and operated Gilpin Motor Co. for more than 45 years. He was a member of the National Automobile Dealers' Association and Joplin Elks Club. He was a World War II veteran and was awarded two Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart during campaigns in Italy. He married Delphine Drown in 1954. She survives. Additional survives include a son, Michael Giplin, Joplin; a daughter, B. Michelle Daly, Ballwin; two brothers, Roy Gilpin, Carl Junction, and Ray Gilpin, Climax; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The Rev. John Newberry will officiate. Pallbearers will be Calvin Lanz, A. D. Horine, Bob Owens, Chet Word, Gary Garvin, Ron Apfel, Bob Liggett and Bob Greer. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. A graveside, flag-folding ceremony will be conduced. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice, in care of the mortuary.

Doc Hartje
Claude T. ``Doc'' Hartje, 83, Joplin route 6, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Mr. Hartje was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Washington County, Ark. He had been a resident of Joplin since 1915. He had worked at the Mathuska Mining Co., Picher, Okla., and at Laddish Forging, Los Angeles, Calif. He then was employed by the Joplin Special Road District, from which he retired in 1975. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Mildred M. ``Mickey'' Moore on Dec. 30, 1961, at Miami, Okla. She survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Tom Hartje, Joplin, David Evans, Webb City, and James Evans, Carterville; a daughter, Nancy Paradee, Carl Junction; two brothers, Bob Hartje, Joplin, and Gene Hartje, Republic; two sisters, Maude Phillips, Joplin, and Mary Riley, Joplin; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oakhill Cemetery, Galena. The Rev. Kevin Burns will officiate. Pallbearers will be James Evans, David Evans, James Evans II, Tom Hartje, Charlie Thurman and Eric Wilson. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Golda Wilson
Golda Wilson, 90, 616 Hill St., died at 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, at a Joplin nursing home after a long illness. Mrs. Wilson was born Dec. 28, 1905, at Galena, Kan. She was a lifetime Joplin-area resident. She graduated from Joplin High School. She was a secretary for The Empire District Electric Co. and at the Jasper County Juvenile Office for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Joplin, and the Business and Professional Women's Club, and Ruth Chapter No. 177, Order of the Eastern Star. She married Eldo R. Wilson on Oct. 25, 1924, in Joplin. He died May 6, 1972. Survivors include a son, Roland ``Ron'' H. Wilson, Joplin; a daughter, Donna Jean Hamros, Bloomington, Ind.; a brother, Junior Johnson, Topeka, Kan.; two sisters, Corine Holmgren and Mildred Breeden, both of Joplin; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Duane Trimble will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Contributions may be made to Ruth Chapter No. 177, in care of the mortuary.

Blanche Bicknell
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. Blanche S. Bicknell, 99, Beatrice, Neb., formerly of Carl Junction, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at Parkview Center Hospital, Beatrice, after a long illness. Mrs. Bicknell was born May 3, 1897, at Ishpeming, Mich. She was a schoolteacher for three years at Carl Junction. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Beatrice, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Parsons, Kan. Her husband, J.R. Bicknell, died Nov. 20, 1986. Surviving are a son, Jack Bicknell, Marysville, Kan.; a daughter, Roasmond Rea, Beatrice; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home, Carl Junction. The Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Burial will be in Carl Junction Cemetery.

Melvin Crahan
REEDS, Mo. Melvin Ray Crahan, 38, Reeds route 1, died at 7:33 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after suffering a sudden illness at his home. Mr. Crahan was born March 3, 1958, at Carthage. He was a lifetime area resident. He was employed in the maintenance department at Carmar Group Inc., Carthage. He was a member of the Lakeside Full Gospel Church, Carthage. He married Christine Bearden on April 28, 1979, at Carthage,. She survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Jonathan Crahan and Daniel Crahan, both of the home; four brothers, Billy Crahan, James Crahan, Robert Crahan, and Jack Crahan, all of Carthage; and four sisters, Loretta Parker, Carterville, Betty Anderson, Carthage, Evelyn Maggard, Carthage, and Kathy Erskin, Carthage. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage. The Rev. Joe Meyers and the Rev. Ruth Meyers will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brady Stuart, Steve Gilmore, Bill Brewer, Rob Greathouse, James Wethey, and Richard Beardon Burial will be in Reeds Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Ellis
NEOSHO, Mo. Robert Ira Ellis, 86, Neosho, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Ellis was born March 4, 1910, at Wanda. He was a lifetime Neosho resident. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Navy veteran, having been a machinist mate. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Neosho. He married Nora Beaver on Feb. 20, 1937, at Neosho. She survives. Additional survivors include four sons, Lane Ellis, Gig Harbor, Wash., Rex Ellis, Houston, Texas, Gale Ellis, Neosho, and Dale Ellis, Monett; a daughter, Beverly Martin, Portland, Maine; a brother, George Ellis, Neosho; two sisters, Jean Shinn, Carthage, and Opal Allen, Stella; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The Rev. J.C. Harp will officiate. Burial will be in Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery, south of Neosho. Pallbearers will be Ronald Wilson, Wilbur Blankenship, Neal Blount, Dick Day and Roy Gene Carter. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Jerrold Gordon
NOEL, Mo. Jerrold M. Gordon, 82, Noel, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at his home after a long illness. Mr. Gordon was born Aug. 6, 1914, at Harlem, Mont. He moved to Noel from Independence in 1972. He had been a tool and die maker for the Bendix and Rival manufacturing companies. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He married Ruby Barham on May 10, 1939, at Independence. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Larry Gordon, Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Janet Albrecht, Hartland, Wis., Wilma Penniston, Independence; a brother, Tullus E. Gordon, Independence; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The body will be cremated. Memorial services will be at noon Wednesday at the Groves Care Center, Independence. Contributions may be made to New Hope Hospice or the American Cancer Society, in care Ozark Funeral Home, Noel.

Robert Hall
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. Robert Gene Hall, 78, Mount Vernon, died at 4:32 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at the Missouri Veterans Home after a long illness. Mr. Hall was born June 12, 1918, at Pleasant Plains, Ark. He had lived 20 years in Vernon County. He was a retired Air Force warrant officer. Surviving are a son, George D. Hall, Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Leonard Hall, Lamar; two sisters, Nancy Lauck, Sheldon, and Bonnie Speers, Panama City, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Lamar. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lena Jackson
MONETT, Mo. Lena Zelle Stubblefield Jackson, 80, Monett, died at 4:08 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at Cox Medical Center, Springfield, after a short illness. Mrs. Jackson was born Aug. 13, 1915, in the Bethpage community. She lived most of her life in the Monett area. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Monett. She was a past president and secretary of the King's Prairie Harmony Club. She married Lyle Stubblefield on July 16, 1936. He died Feb. 11, 1986. She married Claude E. Jackson on Jan. 8, 1989, at Monett. He survives. Additional survivors include a son, Jim Stubblefield, Monett; three stepdaughters, names and addresses unavailable; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-stepgrandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett. The Rev. Charles Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, south of Monett. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

Liza Willard
WEBB CITY, Mo. Liza Kay Simpson Willard, 41, 400 W. Daugherty St., died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a three-year illness. Mrs. Willard was born Dec. 4, 1954, at Webb City. She was a 1972 Webb City High School graduate. She was a seamstress at Justin Boot Co., Carthage, and a member of First Baptist Church, Webb City. Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Willard, of the home; her parents, Jack and Barbara Simpson, Webb City; and a brother, Hal Simpson, Webb City. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City. The Rev. Robert Easton and the Rev. G.K. Rees will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City. Pallbearers will be David Collard, Rusty Stanford, Craig Judge, Gary Greek, Jack Dawson and Doug Pryor. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MIAMI, Okla. Memorial services for Henrietta W. McCollum, 85, 401 Fourth Ave. N.W., who died Sunday, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami. The Rev.
