MARCUS CAPPS, 61, of LaFollette, died Thursday, August 12, at East Tennessee
Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was a Campbell County school teacher for 39
years and taught at West LaFollette Elementary. He was a member Jellico Lodge
#527 F&AM, LaFollette Charter #212 Royal Arch Masons, and former member of
Kentucky Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by parents, Whyte and
Bertha Capps. Survivors include wife, Patsy Smith Capps. Funeral services
were held Friday, August 13 at Cross Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Freeman
and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment followed Saturday, August 14 in
Wells Springs Cemetery.

KATHERINE MCCULLY CLOTFELTER, 75, of LaFollette, died Monday, August 16 at
LaFollette Medical Center. She was preceded in death by parents, Harrison and
Belle McCulley. Survivors include husband, John Clotfelter. Funeral services
were held Wednesday, August 18 at the House of Prayer and Praise Church with
Rev. Charles Lovely officiating. Interment followed in Walters Cemetery.
Cross Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.

ARLIE C. HATFIELD, 68, of Huntsville, died Wednesday, August 11 at Scott
County Hospital in Oneida. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he
served as custodian for over 45 years. He was preceded in death by parents,
Willie and Ardila Lawson Hatfield. Survivors include wife Phyllis Hatfield.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 14 at Antioch Baptist Church with
Rev. Asbury Byrd and Rev. Carlie Duncan officiating. Interment followed in
the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.

DONALD E. HEATH, 60, of Siler, Kentucky, died Monday, July 26 at his home.
Graveside services were held Thursday, July 29 at Clairfield Cemetery with
Rev. Darrell Bewley officiating. Cox and Son Funeral Home in charge of
arrangments.

GRACIE EVELYN HAUN MCNEW, 89, of Cumberland Gap, died August 9 at Middlesboro
Appalachian Hospital. She was preceded in death by husband, Horace McNew.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 12 at Coffey Funeral Home in
Harrogate with Rev. Ken Cole and Rev. Don Bannister officiating. Interment
followed in McNew Cemetery.

DORA H. MILLER, 58, of LaFollette, died August 10 at LaFollette Medical
Center. She was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Donnie Norman.
Survivors include husband, James C. Miller of LaFollette. Funeral services
were held Thursday, August 12 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard
Dabney officiating. Interment followed Friday, August 13 at Campbell Memorial
Gardens. Cross Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.

JAMES E. REICHEL, 58, of LaFollette, died Sunday, August 15, at LaFollette
Medical Center. He is survived by wife, Allison J. Reichel. Funeral services
will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roach Mortuary.

Marcus Capps, 61, of LaFollette, died Thursday, August 12, at East Tennessee
Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was a Campbell County school teacher for 39

He was preceded in death by parents, Whyte and Bertha Capps. Survivors
include wife, Patsy Smith Capps; son, Carl Wayne Capps of LaFollette;
daughter, Carla Jo Jones of LaFollette; brothers, Virgle Capps, Ivan Capps,
and Glen Capps of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and James Capps and Roy Capps of
Belton, Texas; sister, Mary Wolfe of Jonesville, Virginia; and two
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 13 at Cross Funeral Home with Rev.
Ronnie Freeman and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment followed Saturday,
August 14 in Wells Springs Cemetery.

Glenn R. "Dick" White, 70, of State College died Wednesday,
Aug. 18,1999, at home. Born Oct. 6, 1928, in Salona, he was a son of the late Ada I.
White. On April 16, 1992, he married Hazel E. Hammond Campbell, who
survives at home.
He was a 1948 graduate of Lamar Township Consolidated Schools.
He worked at the Hampton Inn in State College, retiring in
1993.  He attended State College Ass-embly of God.
He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports on
television.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters,
Carol L. Sayers of Loganton and Glenda I. Newfeld of Centre Hall; a son, Daniel
P. of Loganton; a stepdaughter, Lisa L. Lesher of Pennsylvania
Furnace; a stepson, Greg Campbell of Camp Hill; a brother, Fred G. of
Rote; five grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eloise B. Kyper
Funeral Home Inc., 1034 Benner Pike, State College.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home,
with the Rev. Harry Brotzman officiating.
Burial will be in Mooresville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Glenn R. White Memorial
Fund, in care of Omega Bank, North Atherton Place Office, Wal-Mart
Plaza, State College, Pa. 16803.

Nevin E. Decker, 78, of Lock Haven died Tuesday, Aug. 17,
1999, at Lock Haven Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1920, in Craig Township, Spring Mills, he was a
son of the late John H. and Rosetta Long Decker. On March 31, 1947, in
McAlevys Fort, he married Eva Pauline Lightner, who survives at home.
A Navy veteran, he served during World War II from 1944 to
1946 in the Pacific Theatre.  For 11 years he worked in maintenance at Huntingdon Country
Club and before that he worked at the Greenwood Furnace Nursery.
He was a Protestant.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter,
Katherine Tucker of Shelbina, Mo.; two sisters, Katherine Wells of Lewistown and
Grace Shawley of Swissdale; a brother, Albert of Spring Mills; two
granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be after 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m. Friday at Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, 1106 Mifflin St., Hunting-don.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with
the Rev. William Kauffman officiating.
Burial will be in Mooresville Cemetery.

SUSAN STRAWN THOMPSON, 45, died on Thurs., July 29, 1999, of an automobile
accident.  She was a U.P.C. Clerk at Wal-Mart in Selmer for sixteen years
and a member of First Baptist Church in Selmer.
     Services took place at 1 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 1, at Shackelford Chapel in
Selmer.  Burial was held at Ledbetter Cemetery in Adamsville.  officiating
the services were Minister Max Walker.  Pallbearers were Phillip Plunk,
James Craig, Chad Moore, Bradley Gray, Casey Forsythe, Craig Exum, Allen
Moore, and Justin Durance.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Ricky Thompson, her parents, Billy
and Kenestine Wood Strawn of Michie, one daughter, Heather Payne of
Adamsville, two sons, Joshua and Casey Thompson, both of Selmer, one sister,
Lisa Lipford of Michie, one brother, Dickey Strawn of Adamsville, and one
granddaughter, Kaley Payne.

DAVID LEE PATRICK, 45, died on Mon., July 26, 1999, at Methodist Healthcare
McNairy County of self-inflicted gunshot.  He was a construction worker for
Tyrone Hydraulics for ten years.  He enjoyed his friends and neighbors in
the community, and was a life long resident of McNairy County and attended
McNairy Central High School.
     Services  took place at 1 p.m. on Thurs., July 29, at Shackelford
Chapel in Selmer.  Burial was held at New Hope Cemetery in Michie.
Officiating the services was Minister Maurice Pinkston.  Pallbearers were
Dale Dickson, Dan Ingram, James Opal Gray, O'Neal Moore, Billy Ray Rickman,
and Larry Bell.   Honorary pallbearers were Ben Mullins, Johnny Dickson,
John McAfee, and James Phillips.
     Mr. Patrick was preced in death by his father, Hershel Patrick.  He is
survived by his mother, Juantia Mullins Johnson of Guys, one son, Blake
Patrick of Guys, and one brother Dale Patrick of Tupelo, Miss.

JIM N. McAFEE, 67, died on Sat., July 31, 1999, at Magnolia Regional Health
Center in Corinth, Miss., of a stroke.  He was the Minister of the Michie
Church of God of Prophecy for seventeen years and has pastored churches in
Collinwood, Union City, Savannah, Adamsville, and Jackson.
     Services took place at 3 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 2, at Michie church of God
of Prophecy Church.  Burial was held at the Church Cemetery.  Officiating
the services were Ministers Roy Bennett, Willie Axley, and Wayne Hall.
      Mr. McAfee was preceded in death by his parents, Egbert and Rose Woods
McAfee, and two brothers, Guy McAfee and Troy McAfee.  He is survived by his
wife, Elois Jeanette McAfee of Michie, two daughters, Peggy Elois (Mrs.
Glen) Shaw of Michie and Loretta Sue (Mrs. Tommy) Brumley of Iuka, Miss.,
one son, Nathaniel O'Neal (wife Vicki) McAfee of Michie, four sisters,
Lillian Lambert, Zelma Morgan, and Maude Edwards all of Michie and Ruth
Feazell of Corinth, Miss., two brothers, John McAfee of Ramer and Jamie
McAfee of Michie, and nine grandchildren.

JOE DOUGLAS RICKMAN, 71, died on Sat., July 31, 1999, at Hardin County
Hospital in Savannah of an auto accident.  he was retired truck driver, a
Methodist, and a WWII Veteran.
     Services took place at 11 a.m. on Mon., Aug. 2, at Shackelford Chapel
in Selmer.  Burial was held at Pebble Hill Cemetery near Michie.
Pallbearers Bobby Brown, Ed Morgan, Ronnie Ray, and Paul Moore.
     Mr. Rickman was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Sweat Rickman
and his parents, Sam B. and Lillie Robbins Rickman.  He is survived by one
daughter, Robbie Wilbanks of Michie, one son, Steve Rickman of Counce, one
sister, Cella M. Rickman of Michie, and two grandchildren.

MARGIE MARIE McCORMICK, 49, died on Friday, July 30, 1999, at her residence
of cancer.  She was a garment worker and attended Adamsville Freewill
Baptist Church.
     Services took place at 3:30 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 1, at Shackelford Chapel
in Selmer.  Burial was held at Liberty Cemetery near Bethel Springs.
Officiating the services were Ministers Bro. Greg Eaton and Bro. Aaron Moss.
       Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell L. and
Mary Jo Plunk Cartwright, one sister, Marsha Pearson, and one son, Bradley
Austin Miller.  She is survived by her husband, Leon McCormick of
Adamsville, one son, Brent Miller of Selmer, two step-sons, Kevin McCormick
of Adamsville and Chris Martin of Tupelo, Miss., her grandmother, Maggie
Plunk of Memphis, and three step-grandchildren.

MARIE FINGER HAIR, 92, died on Tues., July 27, 1999, at St. Johns Hospital
in Springfield, Mo., of heart failure.  She was a factory worker and a
member of First Baptist church in Adamsville.  Caregivers for Mrs. Hair
during her illness were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Strahley and Mrs. Laverne
Cantrell.
     Services took place at 1 p.m.  on Fri., July 30, at Shackelford Chapel
in Adamsville.  Burial was held at Adamsville Cemetery in Adamsville.
Officiating the services was Minister Frank Kemper.  Pallbearers were Bobby
Vandiver, Richie Brewer, Chris Jones, Brian Jones, and Jeff Browder.
     Mrs.  Hair was preceded in death by her husband.  Troy Hair and one
daughter, Bobbie Ruth Hassell.  She is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann
Harrison of Springfield, Mo., and Patsy Hunt of Muscle Shoals, Ala., one
son, Sam H. Hair of Adamsville, two sisters Lillie Mae Mills and Jodie
Browder both of Adamsville, four grandchildren, give gr-grandchildren and
one gr-gr-grandchild.

The two month old child of Sam Humberd, who lives about seven miles
below town, died Wednesday. Interment was made at the city cemetery on
Thursday.

Mrs. Myrah Christian

Mrs. Myrah Christian died at her home 3 miles north of Benton on the
21st, after several weeks of suffering, and was interred at the Benton
cemetery on the 22nd. Rev. D. N. Crumley conducted the funeral at grave
which was well attended. The deceased is survived by her husband, Uncle
Dick Christian; two daughters and four sons who have the sympathy of the

BOGGS, ADELAIDE "ADDIE" (WILLOUGHBY) - age 99, of Vevay, Indiana, formerly of
LaFollette, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 1999, at Swiss Villa Living
Center, Vevay, IN. She was a 45 year member of Bonita Springs United
Methodist Church, Bonita Springs, Florida. She was a 1917 graduate of
LaFollette High School and attended the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Boggs
was a homemaker most of her life. She resided in Bonita Springs, Florida for
40 years, was raised in LaFollette, Tennessee and resided in Vevay since
April 1996. She enjoyed quilting, and quilted over one hundred hand-crafted
quilts. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting people. She was lovingly
cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Monroe Drew for the
past seven years. Preceded in death by parents, Robert Sherman and Tennessee
(Gross) Willoughby; 1st husband, James Marion Davis, Jr; 1939; 2nd husband,
James Preston Boggs, M.D. died 1962; 5 brothers; Carl, Ernest, Harry, Roy,
and Taft Willoughby; 5 sisters, Zornh Willoughby, Bonnie Lindsey,Lulu
Lindsey, Irene Willoughby, and Velma Johnson; 1 son-in-law, Dr. Tim Juett.
Survivors: 2 daughters, Lillian I. Drew and husband, Monroe of Vevay,
Indiana, Lucille Juett of Ashland, KY; 4 grandchildren, Robert Monroe Drew,

Methodist Church, operated a grocery store for many years, former owner of
Indian River Boat Dock, school bus operator for over 40 years, and a lifetime
farmer. Survivors: wife of 63 years, Mrs. Grace Carr, Speedwell; son and

ELZA, PAUL MARTIN - 84, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, August 20, 1999, at the
NHC Health Care Center. Mr. Elza was born October 2, 1914, in Knoxville, to
parents, Jess H. and Beulah Francis Elza. Mr. Elza was employed with TVA
before coming to Oak Ridge in 1943 to work for Tennessee Eastman. He also
worked at the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in
China before going to work at Oak Ridge Associated Universities in 1949.
During this time, he also served with the International Atomic Energy Agency
in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Elza retired in 1976 as deputy director at Oak Ridge
Associated Universities. He is survived by wife of 62 years, Novella Morgan
Hammer Elza of Oak Ridge; son, Michael M. Elza and wife, Rita of Atlanta,
Ga.; daughters, Judith E. Crosland and husband, John of Charlotte, N.C.,
Paula "Gheenie" Harris and husband, Michael of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren,
William E. "Rocky" McClamroch and wife, Annemarie of Knoxville, Michael T.
McClamroch and wife, Kim W. of Knoxville, Susannah J. Harris of Washington,
D.C., Amanda M. Harris of Chapel Hill, N.C., Michael John Elza and wife,

20, 1999, at LaFollette Nursing Home. Member of the East LaFollette Baptist
Church, former member of the Eastern Star. Retired from Imperial Reading
Corporation. Preceded in death by her parents, Jack Sims and Ada Walker Sims
Wilson; brothers, Leman Sims and H.M. "Bud" Wilson; and sister, Wilda Sims.
Survivors: husband of 59 years, Lawrence Lobertini, LaFollette; children,
Jack Lobertini, Gail Williams, Carol Russell, all of LaFollette, Linda

School Classes. Retired from Union Carbide after 27 years of service.

KATHERINE LOBERTINI, 83, of LaFollette, died Friday, August 20 at LaFollette
Nursing Home.
She was former member of the Eastern Star and retired from Imperial Reading
Corporation.
She was preceded in death by parents, Jack Sims and Ada Walker Sims Wilson.
Survivors include husband , Lawrence Lobertini of LaFollette.  Funeral

Abigail Swingle.

    "Mrs. Abigail Swingle, of Carbondale, March 15th, of cancer, aged 69
years.  Deceased died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Wagner, where
she had made her home since the death of her husband, Andrew Swingle, in
South Canaan, two years ago.  She leaves three daughters and one son.  The
interment was by the side of her husband in South Canaan, on Sunday."

Death Notice
DIED - At her residence, in this borough, on Sunday evening,
the 23d of May, 1847, ABIGAIL EYRE, in the 88th year of her
age. She was born in this county, and remembered, with great
distinctness, until a short time previous to her death, many
of the stirring scenes connected with the early settlement of
the county. She assisted in dressing the wounds of the
soldiers at the Battle of the Brandywine, and could recount
many of the occurrences that took place on that memorable
occasion. Her life passed quietly away without pain, and she
died as she had lived, at peace with all the world. Her
remains were deposited in Friends'burying ground, in this
borough, to which Society she was attached during life.

ROBERTSON, GLADYS MAYES - age 88, passed away Sunday, August 22, 1999, at her
home in Speedwell, Tenn. Born March 10, 1911, in Goin, Tenn., a daughter of
the late James and Hattie Daniel Mayes. She was a charter member of Shady
Grove Baptist Church, where she served and attended faithfully until her
death. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband,
George Robertson; brothers, Clyde, Curtis and Clayton Mayes; and sister, Cleo
Poteet. Survivors: sons, Earl Robertson and wife, Elsie, Powell, Tenn., Bill
Robertson and wife, Juanita, Knoxville; daughter, Bonnie Hendon and husband,
John "J.D.", Knoxville; four grandsons; four granddaughters; 11 precious
great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Heck, Speedwell, Tenn., Edith Tinnel,
Joyce Bennett, both of Maryville, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Cleo Mayes,
Speedwell, Tenn., AmyLee Mayes, Tazewell, Tenn.; and other relatives and
friends who were so dear and precious to her. Funeral service will be
Thursday 11 a.m. at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, Speedwell with Rev.
Mitchell Keck officiating. Music by the church choir. Flowers appreciated or
memorials may be made to the Shady Grove Church, Mayes Town Rd., Speedwell,

LaRUE, CHARLOTTE HOLLEY- age 84, of Clinton, passed away Monday, August 23,
1999, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of Memorial
United Methodist Church in Clinton. She was an active member of Timely Topics
Club, Garden Club and Wednesday Club. She was preceded in death by parents,
Paul F. and Roberta Stone Holley and husband, Harlan LaRue. She is survived
by sister, Margaret Eager of Clinton; cousins, Dr. Gene and Madelyn McNeeley
and children of Norris. She had many special friends, Mary Nell and Ralph
Ferguson of Knoxville, Fern Cantrell, Celdon Lewallen, Flo Stansberry, Cathy

Community of Anderson Co., went to be with the Lord on August 22, 1999. He

YOUNG, JAMES M., JR. - age 77, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at
the Methodist Medical Center. Veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving with
the US Army. Retired in 1985 after 33 years with Union Carbide Corp./K-25.
Member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville. Preceded in death by his
parents, Blanche Conley and James M. Young, Jr.; a sister, Iris Louise of
Maryville; and by a son, David Gibson Young. Survived by wife, Margaret
Gibson Young of Oak Ridge; sister, Wilma Young Carroll of Maryville; brother,
Jack Conley Young of Oak Ridge; son, James Daniel Young and wife, Linda of
Claxton; daughter, Lucinda Young of Maryville; three grandchildren, David

BUXTON, MR. RAYMOND - age 84, Oak Ridge, died at 11:00 p.m. Monday, August
23, 1999 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a lengthy illness.
Formerly a resident of Morgan County, he had lived in Oak Ridge since April.
Mr. Buxton retired in 1974 after working for Union Carbide Nuclear Division
since 1948 as a chemist in the Chemical Technology Division. He received two
U.S. patents while working for Union Carbide. He was born in Lancing, TN on
January 12, 1916, the son of Abe L. and Dove Buxton, who are deceased. He was
a graduate of East Tennessee State University. Mr. Buxton was an active
resident of the Morgan County Community. He was a founding member of the
Morgan County Rescue Squad and served on the board of the library in
Wartburg. He was also active in other civic affairs in Wartburg, including
the United Way of Morgan County, and in Knoxville with the Kerbela Shrine
Temple. He was a Baptist. Mr. Buxton is survived by his wife, Marjorie
Buxton, whom he married in Knoxville in 1950; his son, Steve Buxton and his
wife, Debbie of Oak Ridge; his grandchildren, Wally and Nikki Stubs of Oak
Ridge; and his niece, Jennifer Wright-Howell, also of Oak Ridge. The funeral
will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 1999 in the Chapel of
Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with Rev. Tom Mooty officiating. The family
will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at
10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 1999 at Wartburg Cemetery. The family
