Services for Vera Cobb Denham, 85, of 315 Longshore Drive, will be today at 2 p.m. at Young’s Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Rodney Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Denham died Friday at Regional Medical Center.Survivors include two sons, Ed Denham of Jacksonville and Bobby Denham of Kansas; a daughter, Lisa Nenitz of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Tidwell, Tony Williams, Carl Hicks, Don Chandler, Joel Hovedon, Donnie Heath, Richard Braden, Jerry Hudson and Harold Carroll.
Mrs. Denham was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a Methodist and was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Denham, a daughter, Glendon Hicks, a son, Jackie Denham and a grandson, Wendell Hicks.

Graveside services for Billy J. Goodwin, 68, of 1121 Hillcrest Drive, Weaver, were Monday at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. David Daniels officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge.
Mr. Goodwin died Friday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Polly McFall Goodwin of Weaver; three sons, Rick Goodwin and Steve Goodwin, both of Jacksonville and William Goodwin of Weaver; three sisters, Bertie Bailey of Jacksonville, Mary Goodwin of Anniston and Frances Taylor of West Virginia; three brothers, Dock Goodwin of Piedmont, Junior Goodwin of Jacksonville and Larry Goodwin of New Hampshire and four grandchildren, Kayla Goodwin, Chad Goodwin, Neil Goodwin and Aaron Goodwin, all of Jacksonville.
Pallbearers were Aaron Goodwin, Chad Goodwin, Neil Goodwin, Mike Goodwin, Jeff Fuller and Leon McFall.

Services for Mildred Huffar Harris, 87, of Jacksonville, formerly of Gadsden, were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden. The Rev. Will Garrett officiated. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Attalla.
Mrs. Harris died Jan. 5.
Survivors include Carolyn Serviss of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, William Spann of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth Duggan of Charleston, S.C. and Emory Serviss of Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Harris, a longtime resident of Gadsden and Attala, was a member of Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Harris and a daughter, Jo Harris Spann.

Graveside services for Morris “Jack” Jennings Morgan, 78, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Nances Creek, were Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at Nances Creek Cemetery. Dr. Will Garrett and the Rev. Joe Harris officiated. Burial was at Nances Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Morgan died Jan. 2 in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Morgan of Houston; a daughter, Katherine Hutmacher of League City, Texas; two sons, Samuel Harvey Morgan of Lufkin, Texas and Ben C. Morgan of Nashville; and two grandchildren, Sarah Morgan and Michael Morgan of Nashville.
Mr. Morgan was born Aug. 31, 1920 in Calhoun County near Jacksonville. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in April 1940 and was a survivor of the sinking of the USS Yorktown in the Battle of Midway in June 1942. He earned Naval Aviator Wings and was commissioned a naval officer in December 1944 after which he served in the Pacific and Japan.
Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he began his career in commercial and corporate navigation. He flew 20 types of aircraft and logged over 12,000 hours in the air.
He flew over most of the world and was manager of Texas Eastern Transmission’s flight department when he retired in 1978.

Services for Alonzo A. Webb, Sr., 67, of 410 S.E. Vann St., were Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ervin Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Price officiated. Burial was in Dayton, Ohio.Mr. Webb died Jan. 6 in his home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Webb of Jacksonville; a daughter, Valerie D. Norton of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Alonzo A. Webb, Jr., Columbus; and five grandchildren.Pallbearers will be nephews.
Mr. Webb retired in 1992 from Dayton School System. He was a member of Alabama A&M Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Claude Berryhill Jr., 78, of Huntsville died Saturday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Scott Gossett officiating.
Mr. Berryhill was a Madison County native and was a retired chief boatswain with the Navy after 30 years of service. He was formerly employed with NASA security.
Survivors include his wife, Lois C. Berryhill; three sons, Barry A. Berryhill of Madison and Freddy M. Berryhill and Dennis P. Berryhill, both of Huntsville; two daughters, Judy A. Sands and Kim Jones, both of Huntsville; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

SCOTTSBORO - Kay Bohannon, 39, died Saturday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home.

Burial was in Greens Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Burke was a DeKalb County native and a retired mail carrier. He was a World War II veteran and a Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Burke; three daughters, Paulette Esco of Birmingham and Betty Ann Antonidis and Judy Faye Burnett, both of Houston; one son, Don Burke of Albertville; one sister, Jessie Britton of Albertville; one brother, Woodrow Burke of Anniston; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

JACKSON, Miss. - Herbert Holt Coleman Sr., 61, died Wednesday at a Phoenix hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Coleman had lived in Jackson most of his life and was a senior vice president with Trustmark Bank before retiring in 1992 after 32 years. He was a fund-raiser and supporter of various charities. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife, Marimae Clark Coleman; one daughter, Sarabeth Coleman Martinson of Huntsville; one son, Herbert H. Coleman Jr. of Phoenix; one sister, Carolyn Coleman Downs of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Mr. King was an engineer for T.T.C. Railroad and the Santa Fe Railroad.
Survivors include three sons, Jason King of Davenport, Iowa; Erik King of Chicago; and Ian King of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; and one sister, Remelle Sowenski of Guild, Tenn.

Mr. Ott was retired from Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga and was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Ider.

Dr. Harrison McMains, 92, of 237 Inverness Dr. died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church with Dr. Harold Dowler officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home in charge. McMains, pastor of First Christian Church from 1960 to 1970, was active in the Huntsville community and in Jasper and Atlanta where he did much volunteer work. He won many awards, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Award for outstanding service in human relations and the brotherhood award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. A graduate of Lynchburg College, he was inducted into the Lynchburg College Sports Hall of Fame. He was past president of the Boys Club, the American Red Cross and the Rotary Club. Before becoming a minister, he was in show business, singing in Ziegfields ''Rio Rita one season and Schwab & Mandels ''New Moon the next season. Survivors include a son, Harrison McMains III, and a daughter, Nancy McMains Stayman, both of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Virginia G. Kennedy of Atlanta, Carol G. Miner of Nashville, Anna Lacy McMains and Harrison Westmoreland McMains, both of Decatur; and one great-grandson, Gordon George Geddes Kennedy. Robert Nance officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Mrs. Mellette was retired from the Madison County Board of Education after 41 years. DECATUR - Joe R. Mosley Sr. of Decatur died Tuesday at a nursing home. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. B.L. Burgess officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Mosley was born July 31, 1924, in Lawrence County. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a member of Master Masonic Lodge No. 774. ATHENS - Turner Laster Pitman, 74, of Aster Street died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Don Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. Mr. Pitman was a native of Limestone County and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Black Pitman; one son, James D. Black of Chattanooga; three sisters, Ellie Miller, Nettie Pitman and Elizabeth Hardy, all of Athens; and two brothers, Edward Pitman and Robert Pitman, both of Athens.

SCOTTSBORO - Claude H. Rudder, 77, died Wednesday at a Gadsden hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Springs Cemetery in Bridgeport. Mr. Rudder was a retired real estate broker, a former Shriner and a graduate of Florida Southern College. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Pacific theater. Mr. Rudder was preceded in death by one son, Capt. Rod L. Rudder. Survivors include two sons, Mark L. Rudder of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Randal S. Rudder of Phoenix; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence Shelton, 91, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with George Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Mr. Shelton was a Jackson County native, lived in Huntsville most of his life and was a retired textile worker. FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. - Mable Swing Sisk, 74, of 115 Terry Ave. died Tuesday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McCauley Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Mrs. Sisk was a retired seamstress with Jonathan Logan and Lee Manufacturing. BATON ROUGE - Carl E. Thompson, 50, died Monday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Church Street Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Henry Bradford Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home in charge. Capt. Thompson was a 1963 graduate of Councill High School and later finished at Southern University in Baton Rouge. He joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in 1971 as an officer. He was commander of the communications division when he died. Survivors include Carl E. Thompson II of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Eliza Colley of Gadsden and Othorine Saunders and Dorothy Fuller, both of Huntsville; and one brother, James Thompson of Chicago.

Robert "Bob" Jones, 82, of Fouke, Ark., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Jones was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Cotton Valley, La. He was retired owner and operator of Bob's Market, Arcata, Calif., a member of Fairland Holiness Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Navy veteran of World War II.

She was a retired teacher, charter member of Grace United Methodist Church, Arlington, Texas, member of Hopewell Temple CME Church, where she was a member of Hudson-Aubrey-Johnson Missionary Circle and the stewardess board, and National Assocation of Retired Federal Employees. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie W. Lester Sr.

Bishop Holmes was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Kiblah, Ark. He was pastor of First Baptist Church of Venice and former pastor in the Texarkana area.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Patterson Holmes of Venice; one son, Windell Leroy Holmes of Las Vegas; one brother and two sisters-in-law, W.J. and Ethel Holmes of Dallas and M.E. Holmes of Kiblah; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives including a niece and nephew, Minnie and Joe Floyd of Texarkana.

Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Arkansas. He was an oil field mechanic, a Baptist, a Mason and a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Thompson, on Dec. 28, 1996.

Mr. Grissom was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Spencer, Tenn. He was a former employee of Red River Army Depot, a member of Chapel of Light and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Grissom, in 1986 and one daughter, Marilyn Harleen Grissom.

NEW BOSTON, Texas-William Joseph Phillips, 22, of Maud, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in a Galveston, Texas, hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Mr. Phillips was born June 25, 1977, in Naples, Texas. He was an industrial construction worker.
