Dorothy Stephens Dillard died on Friday, August 13, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Born in in 1913 in McComas, WV, the daughter of John Marvin and Rosalie Snead Stephens, Mrs. Dillard was a graduate of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, where she majored in music. She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, and taught music in the Roanoke Public School System for 35-years. In 1979, Mrs. Dillard moved from Roanoke to Lost River, WV, where she resided at The Guest House with her son, Bob. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke.
She predeceased her husband, Wayne W. Dillard, her mother and father, and her brother, John M. Stephens, Jr., all of Roanoke. She is survived by her sons, Robert B. Dillard of Lost River, WV and Duane B. Dillard of Hagerstown, MD, her sisters, Rosalie S. (Featie) Lucas of Hollins, VA, Harriette S. Rothenberger of Salem, VA, Louise S. Cropp of Charlottesville, VA, her brother, Winston M. Stephens of Sunset Beach, NC, and dear friends, Tammy Stanley and David Mickow of Lost River, as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Known as "Mother", "Dot", and "Sister", she will be remembered for her generosity of love, time, and spirit, as well as her talent as a musician and craftsperson.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Grant Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 1019, Petersburg, WV 26847.

Rosa B. Dillard, 78, of 40 Fairground Road died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000.
   A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Dillard was a daughter of the late Alfred and Susan Watkins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Dillard. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Stephens.
   Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thankful Baptist Church, Stephens, with the Revs. John F. Dillard, Dwight Sims, Estee Sanford and Robert Burgess officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include her husband, Charlie Dillard; three daughters, Susie Carreker and Ruth Lewis, both of Atlanta, and Thelma Gray, Kingsbay; and four sons, Charlie Dillard, Atlanta, John F. Dillard, White Plains, Jerry Dillard and Reginald Dillard, of Lexington.

EMPORIA -- Tracy L. Dillard, 33, Emporia, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at an Emporia hospital.
Mr. Dillard worked in construction.
He was born Jan. 15, 1967, at Grand Forks, Neb., the son of Frank Mark and Kathyrn M. Lindstedt Dillard. He graduated from high school in South Sioux City, Neb., in 1985.
Mr. Dillard was a member of the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.
He married Misty Dawn Durham on July 25, 2000, in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Drake B. Dillard, Dakota City, Neb., Dakota Lee Dillard, Emporia, and Robert Dakota Axel Durham, at home; two daughters, Arianne E. Dillard, Dakota City, and Angela Jean Dillard, Emporia; his parents, Frank M. and Kathryn M. Dillard, Dakota City; two sisters, Amra K. Dillard, Dakota City, Stacy L. Dillard-Spahn, South Sioux City; and grandparents, Clara Lindstedt, Larry Noragon and Elaine Dillard, addresses unavailable.
Graveside services will be at Homer, Neb., at a later date. Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today at the Ampitheatre in the west part of Peter Pan Park in Emporia.
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia is in charge of Emporia arrangements. Becker-Hunt Funeral Homer in South Sioux City is in charge of Nebraska arrangements.


Dorothy I. Dillard
She was born in Ursina, Penn. and came to the area from Tallahassee in 1949. She was a school teacher for the Polk County School Board for 30 years. She retired from Winter Haven High School. She was a member of Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church in Winter Haven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Dillard.
She is survived by her daughter, Deidre Reinert of Winter Haven; son, Joseph Henry Dillard of Fort Lauderdale; sister Susan Nunes of Tavares; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild,
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven.

Arthur Dillard was a source of wisdom for family, pride of Hamtramck police

Hamtramck says farewell today to its first African-American police detective.
Services for Arthur Dillard, 101, who died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, in Grace Hospital were to be at 11 a.m. in Corinthian Baptist Church, 1725 Caniff, Hamtramck.
Mr. Dillard worked 23 years for the Hamtramck Police Department before retiring in 1943. As a detective in the 1930s, he became known as one of "The Big Four," the nickname given to the city's most highly regarded officers at the time.
After his retirement from the department, Mr. Dillard worked for 17 years at Ford Motor Co.
Mr. Dillard was a source of pride and wisdom to his family.
His niece, Alfreda Rucker, remembers how her "Uncle Pap" encouraged her to live a clean-cut life.
"He would tell you how to grow up and do for yourself," said Rucker, 62. "'Go to school and get your college education,' he would say. Even when I was a little girl, I'd be trying to get in the bars, and he'd catch me and say, 'Hey, get out of here.'"
Mr. Dillard married Charlie Mae Jefferson and moved to Hamtramck 58 years ago. Mr. Dillard moved to a nursing home about three months ago.
Rucker recalled how much Mr. Dillard loved her cooking, including his last Thanksgiving Day meal.
"He said: 'I know you cooked this, Freda. This isn't hospital food,'" Rucker said. "He really enjoyed his Thanksgiving dinner."
Mr. Dillard was an active member of the Corinthian Baptist Church and an avid reader.
"He'd read anything he could get his hands on," Rucker said.
Mr. Dillard was born in Walker County, Ga., in 1895 and came to Michigan in 1920 after graduating from high school to find a job as a police officer.
Besides his wife and Rucker, survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Detroit will follow the funeral services.


Mary A. Dillard, 72, of 13 Ellsworth Avenue, Danbury, wife of the late John T. "Buster" Dillard, died on Sunday, June 11, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital.
Best known as "Chick", Mrs. Dillard was born in Level Run, Virginia, January 16, 1928, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Cole) Gregory. She moved with her family from Level Run and settled in Chatham, Virginia and attended local schools.
A resident of Danbury for the past 50 years, she was a retired dietitian at the Heritage Heights Care Facility as well as a cook at the Interfaith Early Learning Center, both of Danbury.
She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Danbury, as well as an usher.
Mary A. Gregory Dillard, "Chick", will best be remembered as "Mama" to any and all.
Surviving is a son, Troy Dillard of Danbury; two daughters, Debbie Dillard and Gail Dillard, both of Danbury; a sister, Ann Clark of Chatham, Va.; five brothers, Lewis M. Gregory of Danbury, Holland Gregory of Toledo, Ohio, Sherwood Gregory of Newport News, Va., Frank Gregory of Detroit, Mich. and Linwood Gregory of Chatham, Va,; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; as well as nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Terry Dillard and a brother, Rudolph Gregory, predeceased her.
The funeral will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the New Hope Baptist Church, 10 Cherry Street, Danbury, with the Rev. Dr. Aaron R. Samuels, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received at the New Hope Baptist Church on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

COLLINS -- John W. Dillard, 83, died Sept. 28 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He was a retired rural mail carrier and a member of Collins Baptist Church. He was a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge. No. 32.
SURVIVORS: three sons, John L. Dillard of Kingsland, David Dillard of Shellman Bluff and Mark Dillard of Collins; a brother, Chester Dillard of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Baptist Church, burial in Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.


Harrison Dillard, 61, of Troy, [AL] died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999 at his home.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999 at Dillard Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmy Mathews, Lee Register and Thad Pittman officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dillard of Troy, a daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Robert Hudson of Troy, granddaughters, Abby Laura and Olivia Hudson of Troy; a sister, Lillis Knotts of Troy; a brother Gene Dillard of Pensacola, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be men of the church, honorary pallbearers will be employees of the State Highway Department.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Kyle Dillard, Jr., 79, of Belen, N.M, died on March 8, 2000.
He was born to Kyle Dillard, Sr. and Irene McKinney Dillard in Breckenridge, Texas, in 1920. He was a member of the Golf Road Church of Christ in Belen. He was a longtime machine shop foreman for New Mexico Tech and retired in 1983. During this time, he was involved in many government projects, including the building of the first Sidewinder Missile for the U.S. government. Dillard served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy (Dot); his daughters, Jan House and Denese Auge; his son, Kyle III; grandchildren, Jeff House, Steven House, Carrie Auge, David Auge and Melissa Auge, all of Belen, and Bradley Dillard of San Diego, Calif; his nephew, Curtis DuPresit of Houston, Texas; and many special friends.
A memorial service was held on March 10. Donations may be made in his memory to the "Children's Playground Fund" in care of Golf Road Church, 14 Golf Road, Belen, NM 87002.


Jeanette A. Dillard, 80, of Denver died 18 April 2000. Ms. Dillard was born in Idaho Spgs on 19 April 1919. She was a retired interior designer. Survivors include dtr Patti Peterson of Denver, brother Don Gibson of Arvada, a grandchild...published in 29 April 2000 Denver Rocky Mtn News.


DILLARD, Charlie M. - Service will be noon Monday at Levi Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Merchant, the Rev. James T. Burnette and the Rev. Alton Dillard officiating. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church. Anderson-Hairston Funeral Home, Montgomery, is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Dillard, 85, of Detroit, formerly of Rand, died March 29, 1997, in Mercy Hospital, Detroit, after a long illness. Additional survivors: brothers, Frank Dillard of Boomer, the Rev. Ralph Dillard of Cleveland.
