RITA THERESA ZAMESNIK

Services for Rita Zamesnik, 78, of Canton were held June 15 at St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church with burial at Knollwood Cemetery in Canton.

Mrs. Zamesnik was born Dec. 29, 1923 in Medford, Wis. and died June 8 in Ann Arbor. She was a retired registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia. She previously had worked at Providence Hospital. She was a graduate of Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She loved painting, knitting and cooking. She was a member of the Nurse's Alumni Association.

Her husband of 55 years, Norman Charles Zamesnik, died June 15.

Survivors include sons, James Norman Zamesnik and Michael Eugene Zamesnik; daughter Carolyn Marie Krushinski; brother, Milo Paquet; sister, Cora Hazell; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

NORMAN CHARLES ZAMESNIK

Services for Norman Zamesnik, 82, of Canton were held June 19 at St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church with burial at Knollwood Cemetery in Canton.

Mr. Zamesnik was born May 11, 1920 in Detroit and died June 15 in Ann Arbor. He was a retired Ford Motor Company executive in Dearborn. He previously had worked for Ternstedt Company, Nash-Kelvinator, and Strathmoor Company. He was a graduate of St. Theresa's High School. He loved travel, bowling, baseball and snorkeling. He was a member of the American Legion. He served with the 506th Fighter Group in Iwo Jima during World War II. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-1945. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rita Zamesnik. 

Survivors include son, James Norman Zamesnik and Michael Eugene Zamesnik; daughter, Carolyn Marie Krushinski; brother, Michael Zamesnik; sisters, Cora Hazell and Trudy Rimer; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

KEVIN ALAN JOHNSON

Services for Kevin Johnson, 48, of Plymouth were held June 18 at Ward Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Clough officiating. Burial was at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.

Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 22, 1953 in Highland Park and died June 13 in Ann Arbor. He was an operating engineer for Edward C. Levy Company in Riverview. He came to the Howell community in 1978 from Livonia. He moved to Plymouth from Howell in 1999. He was a member of the I.U.O.E. Local No. 324. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He had an excellent work ethic and lived for his family. He loved to work with remote-controlled airplanes. 

Survivors include daughters, Sherise Lynn Johnson of Howell and Ashley Lauren Johnson of Howell; parents; George and Marcia Kokones of Plymouth; brothers, Gary R. (Kathy) Johnson of Howell, Darrell D. (Donna) Johnson of Berkley, and Nicholas Kokones of California; nieces, Jacobi A. Johnson, Autumn M. Johnson and Stacey (Richard) Griffin; and great-nephew, James R. Griffin.

JAMES A. MILLS

Services for James Mills, 71, of Canton were held June 17 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bevington officiating. Burial was at Michigan Memorial Park in Brownstown Township.

Mr. Mills was born April 17, 1931 in Walker County, Ala., and died June 13 in Canton. He was a press operator for Chrysler Corporation. 

Survivors include son, James A. (Silvia) Mills, Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter, Teresa Richardson of Canton; daughter, Cheryl L. (Jack) York of Hartland; son, Stephen "Mike" (Lisa) Mills of Howell; son, Kerry V. (Amy) Mills of Canton; daughter, Beverly A. (Marvin) Brafford of Whitmore Lake; brother, Paul Mills of Plymouth; brothers James Oliver Mills of Romulus and Robert Mills of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Nellie Jo Mills-Hadder, Betty Jo Wright and Carolyn Wells, all of Alabama; and 20 grandchildren.

Services for Kathleen Gelardi, 54, of Canton were held June 19 at Northville Christian Assembly with the Rev. Otis T. Buchan officiating. Burial was at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia. 

Mrs. Gelardi was born Dec. 30, 1947 in Detroit and died June 15 at Angela Hospice. She was an insurance executive. She was a member of Northville Christian Assembly.

Services for Pauline Pardy, 93, of Westland will be held June 21, 2002 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. George Charnley officiating. 

Mrs. Pardy was born Dec. 22, 1908 in Malta and died June 18 at the Westland Convelescent Home. She was a homemaker. 

Survivors include children, Carrie (John) Saliba, Frank (Joann), Grace (Harry) Bugeja, Sylvia (Anthony) Saliba, and Mary (Michael) Simone; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Maria Daria; and brother Sam Pace.

EDNA M. EASTMAN

Services for Edna Eastman, 61, of Romulus were held June 15 at Timothy Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Eastman was born July 13, 1940 in Ferndale and died June 10. She was a homemaker.

ELAINE B. CHANDLER

Services for Elaine Chandler, 65, of Livonia (formerly of Plymouth) were held June 22 at St. Colette Catholic Church in Livonia with the Rev. Henry W. Roodbeen officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.

Mrs. Chandler was born Nov. 4, 1936 in Detroit and died June 18 in Ann Arbor. She was a legal secretary/administrator for the law office of Charles W. Chandler. She had previously been employed with American Motors Corporation. She was a member of St. Colette Catholic Church.

Survivors include husband, Charles M. Chandler of Livonia; son, Charles M. Chandler of Livonia; daughters Catherine (William) Burge of London, England and Carrie (James) O'Meara of Howell; and brothers Jerome Jezewski of Livonia and Dennis (Scott) of St. Clair Shores.

Services for Angelina Dillon, 5 months, of Canton were held June 22 at Uht Funeral Home in Westland with burial at Glenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Angelina was born Jan. 16, 2002 and died June 18 in Canton.

DONALD W. HILL

Services for Donald Hill, 62, of Canton Township were held June 22 at L.J. Griffin Funeral Home Westland Chapel.

Mr. Hill was born Jan. 25, 1940 in Detroit and died June 19 in Garden City. He was a truck driver for a food distribution company in Westland.

Survivors include wife, Judith J.; sons, Michael W. and Spencer D.; step-sons Brian K. Teneyck, Lee S. (Ann) Teneyck and Jay C. Teneyck; and nine grandchildren.

JOHN "BUZZY" ZANDER

Services for John Zander, 62, of Plymouth were held June 21 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with the Rev. David Brock officiating. Burial was at Salem-Walker Cemetery in Salem Township.

Mr. Zander was born Aug. 24, 1939 in Croatia, Yugoslavia and died June 19 in Plymouth. He was a retired tool and die maker. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Blaz Zander.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Zander of Plymouth; daughters, Laura Zander of Westland and Nancy Zander of Westland; mother, Mary Zander of Salem Township; sister, Violet (Leonard) Basnec of Northville; brothers Branko (Milka) Zander of Novi and Nick (Mariann) Zander of Brighton; and grandchildren, Terry, Shawn, Andrew, Matthew and Colinda.

LESTER JOHN CARR

Services for Lester Carr, 63, of Canton were held June 21 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. Drex Morton officiating. 

Mr. Carr was born Aug. 13, 1938 in Detroit and died June 18 in Canton. He was employed as a design engineer. He was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church.

Services for John Van Hemel, 72, of Plymouth will be held June 24 at the chapel of L.J. Griffin Funeral Home.

Mr. Van Hemel was born Feb. 22, 1930 in Detroit and died June 20 at Heartland Nursing Home in Ann Arbor. He worked for AT&T.

Survivors include wife, Rose (Mirolla); son, David (Marie); son, Donald (Debra); daughter, Jean (Andrew) Bliscik; daughter, Janet (Chris) Steinle; step-children, Mark Morin and Cheryl (Jerry) Fuhr; and four grandchildren.

ALEKSANDER POUCH

Services for Aleksander Pouch, 75, of Canton Township will be held June 24 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. Andy Webster officiating. 

Mr. Pouch was born May 1, 1926 in Polesie, Poland and died June 20 in Plymouth. He was a retired tool maker from Detroit Diesel. He came to the Canton community in 1977 from Detroit. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Canton. He loved working with furniture, was very dedicated to his job and was a loving husband, father and brother.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Pouch.

Survivors include wife, Krystyna Pouch of Canton; son, John Pouch of Twinsburg, Ohio; sisters, Eugene of White Russia and Antosia of Poland; and brother, Gregorz of Poland.

FLOYD BOATRIGHT

Services for Floyd Boatright, 90, of Romulus were held June 24 at Uht Funeral Home in Westland with the Rev. Russell L. Roberts officiating. Burial was at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

Mr. Boatright was born June 12, 1912 and died June 21 in Wayne. He was a janitor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Boatright; son, Alfred Boatright; and daughter, Mavis Boatright.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Vina Boatright of Romulus; grandsons, Richard Boatright of Redford; Rick (Shelly) of Redford, and Rex (Jennifer) Boatright of Romulus; granddaughter, Kathy (Roger) Burcroff of Canton; great-granddaughters, Sabrina, Kelley Burcroff, Allison and Grace Boatright; great-grandsons, Derek Boatright and Jack Burcroff.

LOUIS A. WARD

Services for Louis Ward, 77 of Canton, were held June 22 at McCabe Funeral Home Canton Chapel with the Rev. Roy G. Forsyth officiating. Burial was at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens. 

Mr. Ward was born March 7, 1925 in Croswell and died June 18 in Superior Township. He was a retired machinist for the Braun Corporation.

Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Ward; daughters, Pamela Light, Linda (Tony) Fratt, Sandra (Jerry) Reilly, and Wanda Stewart; three brothers; five sisters; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

MARK C. HATFIELD

Services for Mark Hatfield, 48, of Canton were held June 15 at Verneulen Funeral Home with the Rev. James McGuire officiating. Burial was at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville, Mich.

Mr. Hatfield was born June 21, 1953 in Hamilton, Ohio and died June 14 in Canton. Mark graduated from Benton Harbor High School and Western Michigan University. He was employed as a computer analyst with Daimler Chrysler. He was a member of Ward Presbyterian Church. 

Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Esper Hatfield of Canton; father, Wayne C. Hatfield of St. Joseph; mother, Jean A. (Walter) Browe of Stevensville; daughter, Shelby Hatfield of Chesterfield Township; step-daughter, Hannah Esper of Canton; and sister Lynn (John) Korff of Holly Springs, N.C.

RAY C. THOMPSON

Services for Ray Thompson, 97, of Traverse City (formerly of Plymouth), were held June 25 at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Riness officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.

Mr. Thompson was born Nov. 19, 1904 in Dennis, Kan., and died June 21 in Traverse City. He was an auto technician. He came to the Traverse City community in 1995 from Plymouth. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Grayling. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Marlin.

Survivors include son, James (Joan) Thompson of Englewood, Fla.; son, Donald (Lois) Thompson of Traverse City; daughter, Katy (Charles) Priehs of Hubbard Lake; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

CHRISTAL WOODS

Services for Christal Woods will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Valentine Catholic Church in Redford. Mrs. Woods died June 25, 2002.

Survivors include sons, Luke and Matthew; brothers, Robert (Cheryl) Woods,and James (Pat) Strelecki; sisters, Elaine Woods, Rose (Dennis) Chaivre, Marilyn (Jerry) Dear, and Della (Richard) Cieciek; and many nieces and nephews.

ELDEN JOHN HOLDERNESS

Services for Elden Holderness, 64, of Canton were held June 27 at the Uht Funeral Home in Westland with the Rev. Roy Forsyth officiating. 

Mr. Holderness was born Oct. 5, 1937 and died June 21 in Superior Township. He was an inspector. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, and brother Milton Holderness.

Survivors include daughters Connie Halaberda, Bonnie Offer and Jeannie Holderness; sons Russell Holderness and Donald Holderness; sisters Linda Johnson, Jeanette Swanguarin, Janice Senior and Cheryle Hopper; aunt Jean Johnson; uncle Russell Johnson; grandsons Shaun Halaberda and Nicholas Halaberda; and granddaughters Lauren Halaberda and Andrea Offer.

LISA LYNN NOETZEL

Services for Lisa Noetzel, 36, of Canton Township were held June 29 at the Neely-Turowski Funeral Home in Canton with the Rev. Frederick Weaver officiating.

Mrs. Noetzel was born May 23, 1966 in Columbus, Ohio and died June 27 in Canton. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include husband, Richard Noetzel; and daughters, Kara and Vanessa Jones.

DONALD F. TAPPAN

Services for Donald F. Tappan, 76 of Plymouth will be held July 1 at St. Kenneth Catholic Church with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Mr. Tappan died June 26.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine and daughter, Janette Madsen.

Survivors include daughter, Nancy (Russ) Welch; daughter, Patricia (Charles) Curmi; son, Donald Jr. (Rosemary); grandchildren, Gregory (Inas), Laura, Kimberly, Tricia, Daniel, Elizabeth, Catherine, Donald III, Christine, Carolyn, and Alicia; step-grandchildren, Brian (Mary), and Mark (Kelley); brother, Keith; brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
