Winifred Ada Brooks

Services for former Livonia resident Winifred Brooks, 93, of Farmington Hills were July 25 in Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, Farmington. Officiating was Ed Beckstein.

Mrs. Brooks was born April 25, 1909, in England and died July 22 in Farmington Hills. She was a sales clerk for S.S. Kresge in the 1940s and 1950s. She attended high school in England. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, and was past president and past Assembly Chaplain of Rebecca's Garden City Lodge No. 522.

Surviving are her son, Robert Brooks of Canton; daughter, Barbara (Dale) Campbell of Southfield; sisters, Jane Davies of Royal Oak and Joan Jones of Indiana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin (1974).

Gary Michael King

Services for Gary King, 53, of Garden City were July 16 in R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home with burial at Parkview Memorial Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Gary D. Headapohl.

Mr. King was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Fort Meade, Md., and died July 13 in Royal Oak. He was a service manager for McLaughlin Ford, Royal Oak. He was a graduate of Garden City High School. Mr. King enjoyed golf and cars.

Surviving are his wife, Dawn; son, Zachary; daughters, Laura and Melissa; parents, Erlene and the late Doyle Pummill; brothers, Bill, Ron (Justine) and Wesley (Susan) Pummil; sisters, Barbara Stanisz and Debra (Kevin) Connolly; and three grandchildren, Amanda, Tristin and Shane.

Memorial tributes may be made to Pummill Cancer Golf Classic to benefit Karmanos Cancer Institute.
 

Pauline Ritz

Services for Pauline Ritz, 89, of Garden City were July 27 in St. Raphael Catholic Church with burial at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights. Officiating was the Rev. Frederick Misiolek.

Mrs. Ritz was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Simpson, Pa., and died July 24 in Royal Oak. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her sons, Jerome (Connie) Ritz, Jack (Therese) Ritz and Frederick (Denise) Ritz; daughter, Rita Chester; sisters, Mildred Mazza and Stella Whitelavich; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ritz was preceded in death by her husband, John, and son, Edward Ritz.

Memorial tributes may be made to Alzheimer's Association or in the form of Masses.

Margarita Zoltowski

A funeral service for Margarita Zoltowski, 57, of Wayne will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with a Mass following at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Pienta. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 1, and 4-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in the funeral home. There will be a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Zoltowski was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Monterrey, Mexico, and died July 25 at Arbor Hospice Residence. She lived in Milan before moving to Wayne and was employed as a special education teacher at John Glenn High School in Westland.

Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Jim; sons, James (Lisa) of Milan, Anthony (Kyleen) of Garden City and Ronnie (Mary) of Milan; sisters, Teresa, Irma, Lupe and Annie; and six grandchildren, Anthony, Zachary, Chelsea, Brieann, Alissa and Madyson.

Teresa A. Portis

Services for Teresa Portis, 44, of Garden City were Aug. 1 in John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Wayne Parker of Merriman Road Baptist Church.

A homemaker, Mrs. Portis was born Sept. 13, 1957, in Detroit, and died July 29 in Livonia.

Surviving are her husband, Michael; daughters, Nicole Portis and Dawn Portis; mother, Marilyn Volmer; sister, Jacklyn Jones; and two grandchildren, Andrew Williams and Madison Williams.

Shirley M. Sobkowiak

Private graveside services for Shirley Sobkowiak, 75, of Garden City were held at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.

Mrs. Sobkowiak was born April 30, 1927, and died Aug. 12 in Ann Arbor. She was a secretary for Michigan Bell Telephone Co.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen, and grandson, Billy.

Mrs. Sobkowiak was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Raymond J. Juzyk

Services for Raymond Juzyk, 73, of Garden City were Aug. 15 in St. Dunstan Church. Officiating was the Rev. Donald Demmer.

Mr. Juzyk was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Detroit and died Aug. 12 in Detroit. He was an auto body repairman.

Surviving are his sons, David Juzyk and Daniel Juzyk; daughters, Susan Juzyk and Paula Jakel; brothers, Edmund Jusczyk and Chester Jusczyk; sisters, Estelle Zawacki, Freda Marchant and Helen Bakum; and five grandchildren, Brandon, Mallory, Lauren, Amanda and Kayla.

Mr. Juzyk was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie.

Bernice Dudek

Services for Bernice Dudek, 94, of Garden City were Aug. 20 in St. Theodore of Cantebury Church with burial at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights. Officiating was the Rev. Gary Michalik.

Mrs. Dudek was born April 2, 1908, in Bayonne, N.J., and died Aug. 17 in Westland. She was a proprietor.

Surviving are her daughter, Helen Jedrusik; daughters-in-law, Delores and Gladys Dudek; nine grandchildren, Ken (Darlene) Jedrusik, Diane (Robert) Cargnel, Bob Jedrusik, Danny (Evelyn) Dudek, Tanya (the late Michael) Adamus, Terry Dudek, Debbie (Frank) Hachey, Michael (Chris) Dudek and Denise (Mark) Palmer; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dudek was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sons, Pete Dudek and Tadeusz Dudek; and grandson, Tadeusz Dudek.

Anna E. Peterson

Services for Anna Peterson, 96, of Garden City were Aug. 20 in St. Suzanne Church with burial at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights.

Miss Peterson was born June 6, 1906, in Cleveland, Ohio, and died Aug. 16 in Livonia. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her nieces, Eleanor Ciemnicki and Mary Gargac; many other nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo Hoyt

Services for Mary Jo Hoyt, 62, of Lapeer were Aug. 20 in Good Hope Lutheran Church, Garden City, with burial at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy. Officiating was James Noble.

Miss Hoyt was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Pontiac and died Aug. 16 in Flint. She was a clerk.

Surviving are her sisters, Norma (Richard) Perry, Carol Napier of Garden City and Judi Mason; and many nieces and nephews.

Miss Hoyt was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helen Hoyt.

Michael J. Harrison

Services for Michael Harrison, 56, of Garden City were Aug. 26 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Wayne, with burial at Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland. Officiating was the Rev. Jack Baker.

Mr. Harrison died Aug. 21.

Surviving are his sons, Michael Colton and Tommy; daughter, Veronica (John) Lempea; mother, Whilhelmina Harrison; sisters, Ann Jara and Mary Nevin; and three grandchildren, Liz, Trisha and J.J. Lempea.

Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his father, Michael Harrison.

Patricia Kay Murray-Williams

A memorial service for Patricia Murray-Williams, 51, of Garden City was Aug. 31 in R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Murray-Williams was born Sept. 24, 1950, in Detroit and died Aug. 28 in Farmington Hills. She was a marketing assistant for an automotive company.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph; children, Janette (Jason) LaPres, Karl Murray-Hughes and Jessica Williams; parents, Vaden and Mary Murray; siblings, Sharon (Walt) Kopacz, Debbie (Bob) Murray-Worley and Tim (Kim) Murray; and two grandchildren, Brady and Knole.

There are family members in the Livonia community.

Karlie Sloan

Services for Karlie Sloan, 66, of Garden City were Aug. 31 in St. Raphael Church with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Officiating was the Rev. Frederick Misiolek.

Mrs. Sloan was born May 17, 1936, in Melvindale and died Aug. 27 in Marlborough, Mass. She was a clerical worker.

Surviving are her sons, Gregory (Karen) Glumm and Garth (Sheryl) Glumm; daughter, Gayle (Sean) McGinty; brothers, John Kessey and Craig Kessey; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas.

Conley Farmer

Services for Conley Farmer, 80, of Garden City will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 31551 Ford Road, Garden City, with burial at Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland. Officiating will be the Rev. Roy Forsyth. 

Mr. Farmer was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Chavies, Ky., and died Sept. 2 in Grand Rapids. He lived in the Garden City area since 1965 and was a former resident of Inkster. He was the owner of Midgo's filling station and party store. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta; four children; five grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
 

Frank Brauer

Services for Frank Brauer, 91, of Garden City were Sept. 4 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Westland. Officiating was the Rev. Kurt Lambert.

Mr. Brauer was born Nov. 18, 1910, in Detroit and died Aug. 29 in Garden City. He lived in this community many years. He was an assembler for a ventilation company.

Surviving are his daughters, Patricia (Donald) Becker and Geraldine (Robert) Hooton; six grandchildren, Bobby, Laurie, Mike, Michele, Julie and Jimmy; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brauer was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, and grandson, Mark Becker.

Richard Edward Hahn

Services for Richard Hahn, 53, of Garden City were today, Thursday, Sept. 5, in John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Kurt R. Radke.

Mr. Hahn was born June 9, 1949, in Garden City and died Aug. 31 in Garden City. He was a meat cutter.

Surviving are his wife, Kay; son, Derek Hahn; daughters, Shannon (Michael) Otter and Michelle (Thomas) Anderson; and seven grandchildren.
