William Bernard O'Connell
William Bernard O'Connell, 90, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 16, 2002.
He retired in 1978 as an engineering designer.
Mr. O'Connell was an accomplished pianist who performed for more than 70 years in Detroit. 
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Terry, Cheryl, Patricia, and Lynn; sons, Tim, Mike, Kevin and Bill; a brother, a sister, 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 19 at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Memorials contributions can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind or the Lions Club.

Gertrude Margery Pickard
Gertrude Margery Pickard, 86, of Rochester, died September 16, 2002.
She was a teacher in Chicago for 35 years. 
Mrs. Pickard is survived by her daughter, Dawn Pickard; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24 in the chapel at the Cedar Park Cemetery, Chicago.

Donald M. Scott
Donald M. Scott, 70, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 20, 2002.
He was a resident of Rochester since 1958 and a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War.
Mr. Scott was a member of the Avon Players, L'anse Cruse Radio Club, K of C No. 5452, and was a charter member of the Rochester Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Luanne; daughters, Deborah McCracken, Dianne Methner, Mary Briesmaster, and Susan Giddings; son, Donald Scott Jr.; two brothers, a sister and 10 grandchildren. 
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 371 Old Perch, Rochester Hills.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Edmund Leonard Szymczak
Edmund Leonard Szymczak, 82, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 20, 2002.
Mr. Szymczak retired following 40 years of service with the Tank Automotive Command in Warren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; sons, Kenneth, Richard and Kevin; and four grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 23, at Our Lady of Czestochowa, 3100 18 Mile Road, in Sterling Heights.

Ruth Virginia Wingate
Ruth Virginia Wingate, 87, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 23, 2002.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Barsch and Cynthia Fosdick; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joel P. (Bud) Betz
Joel P. (Bud) Betz, 52, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 27, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; a brother, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3.
Burial was at Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek Cemetery.

Sidney D. Fetterly
Sidney D. Fetterly, 95, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Rochester, died Aug. 22, 2002.
Mr. Fetterly retired from employment with the H. L. McGregor Jr. family.
Mr. Fetterly was a member of the Birchwood Athletic Club and St. Mary's Church. He volunteered many hours to the St. Vincent DePaul, Rice Bowl, YMCA and St. Clair County Senior Citizens. 
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Finola Hewitt, Maxine Morelli and Mary Bess Jones; sons, Eugene, Bill and Gerald; two sisters and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 12:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Port Huron.
Arrangements were handled by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron.

Larry Gerald Pyke
Larry Gerald Pyke, 46, of Auburn Hills, died Sept. 29, 2002.
He was a carpenter for more than 28 years, most recently with Local Union No. 0687.
Mr. Pyke is survived by his daughters, Tammy Miller, Catherine "Katie" Pyke, Courtney Clason-Pyke and Christine Clason; companion, Karen Clason; three sisters, a brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4.
Burial was at Christian Memorial Cemetery.

Ruth T. T. Cattell, 99, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 26, 2002.
She was a Detroit Public School teacher for 41 years.
Ms. Cattell is survived by her nephew, Thomas E. Cattel of Shelby Township; and nieces, Doris William and Dr. Patricia Lindsay.

He was a retired tool designer for General Motors and a veteran of World War II. 
Mr. Greyerbiehl is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Deborah Schneider; and three grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 4 at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Interment was at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery, Pigeon, Mich.

Lynne Cheryl Johnston
Lynne Cheryl Johnston, 40, of Sterling Heights, died Sept. 24, 2002.
She was employed by Young & Rubicam for 17 years and previously worked for the Ross Roy Agency.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her husband, Mark; step-sons, Brian and Keven Johnston; parents, Barbara and Gary Kitchen of Rochester Hills and James and Patti DeGroot of Rochester Hills; sisters, Pam Ladeau and Heather Redshaw; brother, Bill DeGroot; step-sisters, Kim Schmerhiem, Lisa Mazur, Kim Martin, Laurie Calkins, Tammy Wilson, and Lisa and Susan Matukaitis; step-brothers, Mike Kitchen and David Matukaitis. 
A memorial service was held Sept. 28 at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home.

Helen Noreck
Helen Noreck, 89, of Rochester, died Oct. 3, 2002.
She worked for Avon Tube for many years and volunteered on the St. Andrew funeral luncheon committee.
Mrs. Noreck is survived by her daughter, Doris Sova; sons, Bernard Noreck and Gerald Noreck; 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 5 at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.

Ethel Harriet Bradshaw
Ethel Harriet Bradshaw, 85, of Pontiac, died Oct. 8, 2002.
She is survived by her sons, Chuck, of Waterford, Richard, of Shelby Township, Robert, of Clarkston; William and Jim; daughter, Jean Boyce; three sisters including Peggy Langfield of Rochester; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 12 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Burial was at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.

Carole Marie Nossal, 57, of Rochester Hills died Oct. 10, 2002.
Mrs. Nossal was a sales manager for IBM for more than 25 years. Formerly, she was a secretary for General Motors.
Mrs. Nossal was also a member of the IBM 100 Percent Club.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Nossal; step-children, Jamie, Derek, Matthew and T. Nathan; her mother, Carolyn Petrous; three brothers, four sisters and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m., today, Sunday, Oct. 13, at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, and 10-11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart of the Hills Church, 3400 S. Adams Road, Auburn Hills.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart of the Hills Church, Auburn Hills.

Veronica V. (Vera) Pasny
Veronica (Vera) Pasny, 90, of Rochester Hills, died Oct. 6, 2002.
She was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rochester, and St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church, Grosse Pointe Park. 
Mrs. Pasny was past president of the AARP in Rochester and involved with the OPC.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Scott of Rochester Hills; and sister, Joan Bogedin.
Funeral services were held Oct. 10 at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Alfred Paul (Bud) Payne
Alfred Paul (Bud) Payne, 84, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Auburn Hills, died Oct. 6, 2002.
He retired in 1975 from General Motors where he was a member of the UAW Local No. 594 and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Payne is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Leon Payne of Rochester Hills and Gary Payne; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 8, at Pixley Funeral Home-Davis Chapel.
Burial was at Jonesboro (Ark.) Memorial Garden.

Nancy Tseng
Nancy Tseng, 105, of Rochester Hills, died Oct. 6, 2002.
She was a native of China and taught piano for many years.
Mrs. Tseng was a graduate of Grinnell College.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Cynthia Chow of Bloomfield Hills; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9, at Pixley Funeral Home.
Burial was at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.

Elsie C. Weinberg
Elsie C. Weinberg, 91, of Rochester Hills, died Sept. 27, 2002.
She retired from J. L. Hudson's and worked as a cook at the Rochester Nugget-Rochester Cafe.
Mrs. Weinberg is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jacquelin Weinberg; two sisters, two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home.

Donna Emily Gamalski, 70, of Rochester Hills, died Oct. 20, 2002. 
She was a retired office manager.
Mrs. Gamalski is survived by her husband, John R.; son, Ricky, of Clawson; step-daughters, Judy Eckhardt of Shelby Township and Lisa Hennekam; step-son, Jay Gamalski; a sister and two grandchildren.
