Jean Marie Foster, 54, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Jean will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13th, at Clark Funeral Chapel with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Interment will take place in Coomer Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 12th, from 3-9 p.m.

Jean was born on March 15, 1947, in Detroit, the daughter of John and Orielda (Schafer) Farner. She worked for 28 years for the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center as a nursing aide, retiring in 1997. Jean anxiously anticipated the birth of her grandchild in May to daughter Laureen (Doug) Crowley.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Penny Seymour of Elkhart, IN, Laureen (Doug) Crowley of Shepherd, Peggy (Gary) Germain of Mt. Pleasant, and Diana Gluch of Weidman and son Roger (Jean) Pitts of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Brandon James, Trevor Sidney, Jakeb Glen Seymour of Elkart, IN, Jennifer Gluch of Mt. Pleasant; Angela Gluch of St. Louis, and Keith Allen Germain of Mt. Pleasant; her birth mother Mary (Herb) Chapman of South Bend, IN; her brothers William Chapman of Dowagiac, Lawarence Chapman of South Bend, IN; Richard Chapman Granger, IN, Joseph Chapman of Dowagiac, James Chapman of Dowagiac, Michael Chapman of South Bend, and Robert Chapman of Dowagiac; brother Richard Farner of Mt. Pleasant and sisters Sue Wilder of South Bend, IN, Mary Lewandowski of Long Beach, CA, Patricia Hensley of South Bend, IN, and Julie Carney of Tronato CA.

Jean was preceded in death by her soulmate Ernie Pitts and her adoptive parents.

Cecil Wayne Massey, 48, of Weidman passed away on Monday, December 10, 2001 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland.

Funeral services for Cecil will be held on Thursday, December 13th at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Straus officiating. Cremation will follow ceremony.

Cecil was born March 30, 1953 in Humble, TX to Joe and Annie (Cochren) Massey. He married Marie Straus in 1985. Cecil worked as the Distribution Manager for the Morning Sun. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but mostly being a father and attending his sons sporting events.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Jerry Massey and Joe Cecil Massey, both of Weidman; and his father, Joe Cecil of Spring TX and his mother, Annie Ruth Storm of Porter, IN. He is also survived by two brothers, Jack Massey of Spring TX and Jimmy Newsome of Houston, TX and six sisters, Joyce Bierman, Joann Bierman, Belinda Wood all of Spring, TX, Brenda Crump of Corning, AK, Becky Adcock of LA and Elaine Vann of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his special Grandma and Grandpa Schuchardt; his step-mother Viola Massey; father-in-law Gerald Straus; and brother-in-law Tony Straus.
Haught, Audrey Olive
October 19, 1935 - December 10, 2001

Audrey Olive Haught, 87, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral services for Audrey will be held on Wednesday, December 12th at 11 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Freel of the Chippewa Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Audrey was born October 18, 1914 in Fairview, West Virginia to William and Mary (Fluharty) Engle. She married James Haught on October 19, 1935 in West Virginia. He preceded her in death in 1973. Audrey worked in their home taking care of their two children. She was a member of the Chippewa Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting.

Audrey is survived by her children, Mary (Gene) Ohms and James (Becky) Haught, both of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Julie Ohms, Joseph Ohms, John Haught, and Andrew Harless. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Colleen Haught of Alger, MI, Virginia Haught of Fairview, WV, Agie Danielson of Lexington, MI and Olive Tennant of Fairview, WV.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, James, one daughter, Nancy Haught, one brother, John Engle and one sister, Nellie Toothman.

Puhlman, Jr., Arthur A.
October 25, 1930 - December 4, 2001

Arthur A. Puhlman, Jr., 71, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of St Johns, passed away on Tuesday, December 4th, at his residence.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 8th, 2001, at 12 noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Fr. Douglas Osborn and Fr. Robert Byrne co-officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the time of service.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Arthur may consider Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund or masses. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Arthur was born on October 25, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Lucy (Ball) Puhlman Sr. He married Marcia Osborn in February of 1953. Arthur was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he worked for two years with S.S. Kresge then to Elias Brothers where he helped them open their seventh store. In 1973 he became the owner of The Clock Restaurant from which he retired in 1993. Arthur was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Marcia, six children, Cheryl Vodicka, Scott (LuAnn) Puhlman, David (Lee Ann) Puhlman all of Mt. Pleasant, Peri (Brian) Fausett of Shepherd, Chris Puhlman of Mt. Pleasant and Eric (Shana) Puhlman of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Melissa Vodicka, Mathew Vodicka, Patrick Vodicka, Laurie McNeil, Stacy Reen, Connor Puhlman, Ryan Fausett, Adam Fausett, Ashley Fausett, Christopher Puhlman, Justin Puhlman and one great grandson, Parker McNeil.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law, Ray and Nell Osborn.

Eugene “Gene” Walter Neier, 70, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2001.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2001, at Clark Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Gene was born in Mt. Pleasant on February 20, 1931, the son of LeRoy and Mary (Walter) Neier. He graduated in 1949 from Mt. Pleasant High School. Gene was a corporal with the United States Marine Corp. and served in the Korean Conflict. Gene had worked as a chauffeur for Limo Network in St. Charles.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Darla Schmittner of Clare, 1 grandson and 1 granddaughter; 1 sister, Lois Sheppard (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant; 1 sister-in-law Dixie Neier of Mt. Pleasant; and 1 brother-in-law Ross T. Turner of Cranberry Lake.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Joel Neier in 1971; both parents; his brother Richard Lee Neier; and his sister Elsie Ruth Neier Turner.

Alice Gertrude Timmer, 66, of Lansing passed away on Friday, November 23, 2001.

Interment will follow in Kelly Cemetery in Oil City, MI. A Memorial Service for Alice will be held Wednesday, November 28th at 4 p.m. at the New Covenant Christian Church located at 4415 W. St. Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI, with Pastor Jim Rickman officiating.

Alice was born on April 17, 1935 in Midland the daughter of Winford and Marie (Denton) Jewel. She married John Timmer who preceded her in death in 1979. Alice had worked as a secretary for the Pray America organization in Lansing for fourteen years. She was a board member of the Capital Area Community Services for thirteen years. Four times Alice had served as a missionary on missions to Guatmala. She enjoyed being a member of the New Covenant Christian Church and School and spending time with her family.

Alice is survived by her children, Helen (Scott) Rydman and Connie (Ed) Rhode both of Coleman, Esther (Lee) Uphold of Mt. Pleasant, Winford “Jim” Koss and Dana Rudoni of Shepherd, Dan Koss of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren, Theodore “Ted” Rhode, Angela Rydman, Tonia Uphold, Alan Rydman, Cynthia Rhode, Pam Uphold, Derik Koss, Alicia Rudoni, Desirae Koss, Aricia Rudoni, and one great-grandchild, Emily Mae Lilly. She is also survived by her three brothers, Lyle (Chloe) Jewel and Paul (Sharon) Jewel of Arizona, Steve (Joan) Jewel of Kalkaska, MI and three sisters, Joyce (Rev. James) Estep of Evart, MI, Esther Vollmer and Beulah Grenert both of Mt. Pleasant and a special friend, Ron Morin.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents.

Frances G. Hafer, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, November 15, 2001, at her home.

Frances was born on November 25, 1915, in Rosebush, the daughter of Albert J. and Esther (Hart) Prout. Frances married Earl Hafer on October 25, 1932, in Indiana. She was retired from Ferro Manufacturing where she had worked as a press operator. Frances enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.

Frances is survived by her daughter-in-law Donna M. Hafer; her 5 grandchildren, Cheryl Kampf (Mark) of Rosebush, Pam Zeien (John) of Mt. Pleasant, Julie Friend of Morrisville, NC, Rob Hafer (Brenda) of Richmond, Kentucky, and Bill Hafer (Rita Barnes) of Lexington, Kentucky; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Earl on December 21, 1999; her son Bob Hafer, her daughter Donna Jean Hafer; her parents; and her brother Homer Prout.

Max Wayne Moody, 74, of Blanchard, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2001.

Funeral services for Max will be held on Sunday, November 18th, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Paulette Cheyne of the Winn United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine River Cemetery, Rolland Township.

Max was born on July 28, 1927, in Isabella County, the son of William and Daucy (Drake) Moody. He married Donna Cottrell on July 20, 1974, at the Blanchard Pine River Methodist Church. Max was employed for 43 years as a truck driver for the Isabella County Road Commission, retiring in 1989. Max was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Max is survived by his wife, Donna of Blanchard; his daughters, Kim (Randy) Hansen of Vestaburg, Sandra (Charles) Washburn, Sr. of Bannister, his son Eugene Comstock of Blanchard; his grandchildren, Brian and Greg Hansen and Charles Washburn, Jr.; his brother Graden (Betty) Moody of Blanchard; his sister Gloria (Ronald) VanderVlucht of St. Louis ; and his sister-in-law Pat Uebele of Blanchard.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, his brother Hobart Moody, and his daughter Vicki Comstock.

Joseph T. Hrdlovich, 80, of Rosebush, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 8th, 2001.

A Funeral Mass for Joseph will be held on Monday, November 12th, at 11 a.m., at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Jeffrey Donner and Sister Mary Ellen McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in St. Henry’s Cemetery.

Joseph was born on April 28, 1921, in Rosebush, MI, the son of Ambrose and Mary (Scala) Hrdlovich. Joseph served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was awarded 2 bronze stars. He married Joan Funnell on June 3, 1949, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush. For twenty-seven years he worked as a mechanic for Dan McDonald Ford in Clare, retiring in 1971. He then worked for Welded Construction, Tope Oil and Summit Petroleum, retiring in 1998. Joseph was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church and the Rosebush American Legion.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Tom (Denise) Hrdlovich of Rosebush, Richard Hrdlovich of St. Petersburg, Florida, Pamela (Robert) Evans of Mt. Pleasant and Sheri (Thomas) Nartker of Shepherd; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Mary Sanderson of Midland.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Ambrose and Mary Hrdlovich.

Rita C. Peltier, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2001, at the Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant.

Rita was born on November 7, 1925, in Beal City, the daughter of William and Helena (Bierschbach) Bleise. Rita was a graduate of Beal City High School. She married Donald F. Peltier on July 4, 1944, in Beal City. Rita had worked as a file clerk for Central Michigan University Health Services for 15 years. Prior to that she had worked for Broomfield Memorial Hospital and Ferro Manufacturing. Rita was very active and enjoyed camping, gardening, playing cards, dancing, going to the casinos, crocheting, and baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her husband Donald; her children, Mary (Bill) Paisley of Mt. Pleasant, Beverly (Joe) Murray of East Lansing, Donna (Terry) Judd of Laingsburg, and Denise (Ron) Pohl of Beal City; her grandchildren Kelly (Ken) Witgen, Jamie (Rob) Rowley, Jana (Jeff) Grover, Gretchen Woodcock, Michael Judd, Jim, Judd, Stephanie Pohl and Ryan Pohl; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Bill (Marianne) Bleise of MN and Joe (Carol) Bleise of Beal City, 2 brothers-in-law, Harold (Mary) Cassidy of Clare and Mike (Frances) South of Texas; 2 sisters, Virginia Bush of Illinois and Marilyn (Jack) Theisen of Beal City; 1 sister-in-law Alberta Bleise of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Rosemary Cassidy and Agnes South, and 1 brother Robert Bleise.
Glover, Dorothy Marie

Our loving mother, grandmother and dear friend, Dorothy Marie Glover, 82, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, November 8th, 2001, at her home.

A Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held on Monday, November 12th, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. Craig Albrecht officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on May 20, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Louis and Ruth (Ritzenthaller) Wessell. Dorothy married John R. Glover May 1940 in Detroit. She worked as a homemaker and took care of their three children. Dorothy was a member of the Moose Lodge of Mt. Pleasant. Her kindness and love of life will remain in our hearts and forever inspire us.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, John and Susan Glover of Stanwood, Ruth Ann Glover of Grand Ledge and Janet and Jim Fitzpatrick of Rosebush. She is also survived by three grandchildren; John Scott and Evelyn Glover of Woodland Hills, CA, Casey Fitzpatrick and Meagan Fitzpatrick of Rosebush and one great-grandchild, Nicholas Glover of Woodland Hills, CA.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John, in July 1977 and her brother, Elmer Wessell.

Marge Garver of Falmouth died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant. She was 78.

She was born in Gladwin on August 28, 1923, to Daniel and Malwine (Malvina) Steinkraus. Mrs. Garver married Clifford D. Garver on December 28, 1940. The couple lived in Gladwin area for many years before moving to Falmouth.

She loved the Lord, her family and friends, and had many interests. She attended Prosper Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the Ladies Bible Study.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Brenda Atkins of Lake City; son Clifford R. Garver of Mt. Pleasant; and granddaugther, Jennifer (Neil) Helsel of Lake City; sisters, Lillian Kranich of McBain, and Violet Seebold of Elko, Nevada; brother, William (Faith) Steinkraus of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Marian Steinkraus of Douglasville, Georgia, Letha Knowlton of Gladwin, and Carol Barna of Padagoria, Florida; brothers-in-law, Fred (Gloria) Garver of Flint, Ronald (Gail) Garver of Gladwin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters and brothers, Esther Wagner, Edna Gertz, Marie Steinkraus, Sarah Steinkraus, Walter Steinkraus, and Samuel Steinkraus.

Mrs. Garver chose to have her body be donated for medical research to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church in Falmouth, with Pastor Robert Drenton officiating.

Moravy, Gerald "Jerry" Jay

Gerald “Jerry” Jay Moravy, 64, of Weidman passed away on Wednesday, November 7th, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Saturday, November 10th, at 1 p.m., at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Barry Flanders of the Young Church officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.

Jerry was born August 15, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, MI, the son of Herbert and Ida (Ankron) Moravy. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. Jerry was the owner and president of Moravy Trucking, Inc. from 1967-1994. Prior to that he had worked in the oil and gas industry. Jerry was a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association, the Fifty Club, Ducks Unlimited and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and collecting Jim Beam decanters.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Seth) Moravy-Penchansky of Ann Arbor, three sons; Steven Moravy, Michael Moravy and Jeremy Moravy all of Mt. Pleasant and his step-son Phillip Ballew Sr. of Petosky, grandchildren; Cassidy and Sacha Moravy-Penchansky, three nieces and four nephews. He is also survived by his brother, L. Joseph (Elisabeth) Moravy of Arlington Heights, IL and his sister, Mary Ellen Crain of Mt. Pleasant.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Lee Moravy and one daughter, Kimberly Moravy.
