December 1, 1909-January 28, 2002
Edna M. Smalley, age 92, of Shepherd, Michigan passed away at the Laurels
of Mt. Pleasant on Monday, January 28, 2002.
Edna was born on December 1, 1909 in Edmore, Michigan, the daughter
of Clarence and Dorrie (Swick) Crumwell. She married El B. Smalley who
preceded her in death in 1978. She lived in the are most of her life, having
lived in Six Lakes and in Shepherd for 21 years.
Edna was a homemaker and farmer.
Edna is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlotte Cummings of Shepherd.
She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.
at the Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Waldrop officiating. Interment
was in the Richland Cemetery in Vestaburg, Michigan.
Carl Edward Van Faussien
November 2, 1926-February 4, 2002
Carl E. Van Faussien, age 75, of Lake Isabella, Michigan passed away
Monday, February 4, 2002 at the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in
Carl was born on November 2, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia, the
son of Homer Ewing and Kathryn (Chalmers) Van Faussien. He married Norma
Jean Durnan in 1952 in Flint. She preceded him in death in 1990. In 1991,
he married Margaret Neill in Mt. Pleasant
Carl had been a resident of the area since 1971. He served in the United
States Navy during World War II, and was a banker and real estate appraiser.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Gratiot Isabella Board
of Realtors, and the Home Builders Association. He was a graduate of Marshall
University, Huntington, West Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; four children: Mark (Tricia)
Van Faussien of Beverly Hills, Michigan, Pamela (David) Adkins of Huntington,
West Virginia, Karen (Mike) McComas of Barboursville, West Virginia, and
Marcia (David) McComas of Kennesaw, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; and
two sisters, Alma Dillon of Proctorville, OH, and Madeline (Hyrum) Ferris
of Lexington, NC
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Norma Jean,
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.
at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. J. Todd Bruning and Rev. Dean Willard
officiating. Interment was in Two Rivers Cemetery, Isabella County, Michigan.

Oliver "Ollie" Stanley Hudnutt
March 26, 1931-February 5, 2002
Oliver "Ollie" Stanley Hudnutt, age 70, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan,
passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at his home surrounded by his

1931 in Mt. Pleasant. He married Ardean Reen of Mt. Pleasant in December
1958 in Marine City. He and his wife moved back to Mt. Pleasant in 1965
where Oliver was faithfully employed at Long and Wetzel Oil Well Service
for 46 years, a job that he loved, right up until 6 weeks prior to his

Amy, Kyle, Tonya, Jennifer, Kenny, Kody, Kaylynn, and Christina; and a
brother, William Hudnutt, Jr. of Alma.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Louise
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 11 a.m. at
Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Bradshaw of the Central Michigan Assembly
of God officiating. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in
Bay City with interment at Chippewa Township Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan or
to the family.
Marie B. Kenney
April 5, 1916-February 7, 2002
Marie B. Kenney, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on
Thursday, February 7, 2002 at the Laurels of Mt. Pleasant.
Marie was born on April 5, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the daughter
of Charles and Mary Elizabeth Flannery Moore. She married John R. Kenney
in July of 1938. Marie was a lifetime resident of the area and was a member
of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
Marie is survived by three children: Betty Westbrook of Mt. Pleasant,
Jamie (Bob) Lange of St. Louis, and Jim (Sandy) Kenney of Lake Isabella;
nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, John Moore
of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister, Betty Richmond of Mt. Pleasant..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on November
6, 1991; a sister, Charlotte; and an infant daughter, Sue Ann.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, February 9, 2002
at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev.
John Cotter officiating. A Rosary was recited on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Sacred Heart Church, or to Hospice
of Central Michigan.
Amanda Hattie Barrett Jones
March 1, 1917-February 10, 2002
Amanda Hattie Barrett Jones, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, MI, died at Central
Michigan Community Hospital on Sunday, February 10, 2002.
Amanda was born on March 1, 1917 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of
Clarence B. and Myrtle May (Ring) Barrett. She married Ray Jones in 1944
in Mt. Pleasant. Amanda was a resident of the area since 1978 having lived
in Florida for a few years and Blanchard for many years. She was a machine
operator for Ferro Manufacturing for 10 years and worked at a dry cleaners.
Amanda was a member of the M-46 Tabernacle Church and enjoyed the Bible,
crafts, and reading.
Amanda is survived by a niece "daughter", Kathy Davis of Mt. Pleasant;
grandchildren: Eric Davis and Aimee Davis Armstrong of Maumee, OH, and
Rachelle Davis of Austin, TX; great grandson, Zachary Davis Armstrong;
nephews: Phillip (Kathy) and Nicholas Barrett of Austin, TX, Kenneth Barrett
of Mt. Pleasant and Jerry Barrett of Austin, TX; and great nieces and nephews:
Kenny Barrett Jr., Catherine Barrett Smith, Beth Barrett Worlton, Jeff
Barrett, and Jeremy Barrett; and by a sister-in-law, Monica Barrett of
Mt. Pleasant, and her children: Chris Barrett, Frank Barrett, Laurie Barrett
Wilkins, and Robin Barrett Schafer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, in 1980;
a son in 1937; sisters: Myrtle Barrett, Rosaland Silvis, and Adeline (Louie)
Wood; and brothers: Omie (Zelma) Herrington, Clarence Barrett and Nelson
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 14, 2002, at 1:00
p.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Skirvin officiating. Interment
was in Riverside Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested
to the M-46 Tabernacle Church Food Pantry.
Remus Johnson, Jr.
March 23, 1937-February 11, 2002
Remus Johnson, Jr., age 64, of Shepherd died Monday, February 11, 2002
at his home.
Remus was born March 23, 1937 in Sanford, Michigan, the son of Remus
and Elizabeth (Bradd) Johnson. He was a lifetime resident of the area and
was a self employed painter.
Remus is survived by his children, Brenda, Jhock, and Shelly; six grandchildren;
and sisters, Marion Barto of Saginaw, Betty (Steve) Brion of Adrian, Beatrice
Lender of Baldwin, Phyllis Knapp of Midland, Ida (Robert) Drake of Sanford,
and Eva (Cordy) Wolfe of Mt. Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James in November
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 11:00
a.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Sill officiating. Interment
was in Kelly Cemetery, Greendale Township, Midland County, Michigan. Memorial
contributions were suggested to the family.
