|Louisa J. Tremonti
Formerly of Vassar, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at her residence. She was born May 12, 1924 in Detroit, the daughter of Titus and Theresa Tremonti. She had resided in Vassar before returning to Detroit where she had been employed for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company prior to her retirement. She is survived by 2 brothers, Chet Tremontia of Kewadin, Michigan and Reno Tremonti of Warren, Michigan; 2 nieces: Teresa Myczkowiak of Saginaw and Amy McConkie of Midland. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Curio. Private graveside service took place on Friday, July 6, 2001 at Riverside Cemetery.
Leslie Leo Crawford
Age 82, of Mt. Morris went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 29, 2001. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM, Tuesday July 3, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Pastor Richard Cook officiating with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home from 4-9pm Sunday, 10-1 and 4-9 pm Monday. On Tuesday morning, Leslie will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:30 am until the time of services at 11:30 AM. Donations may be directed towards the Mt. Morris First Baptist Church or to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Leslie was born October 15, 1918 in Dexter, Missouri the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Elbert and Emma (Gillis) Crawford. He and Rosalie Davidson were united in marriage on August 7, 1946 at the Birch Run Methodist Church. Before entering the service, he worked for the CCC's at Rapid River in the U.P. Leslie served in the US Army as a Tec 4 in the 12th General Hospital Group during WWII. He received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal , European African Middle East Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 1 Service Stripe and 5 Overseas Service Bars. Leslie worked for GM at Ternstedt for 35 years, and was a member of the UAW # 326, VFW Gordon R. Bennett Post # 1452 and he was a sunday school teacher for 10 years. Surviving are his wife, Rosalie, 3 children, Maxine (Mickey) and husband Gary Tanner, Leslie G. and wife Christiane Crawford, Matthew Wayne Crawford, 5 grandchildren, Krysta, Gary Dean and Nathan Tanner, Nicole Lynn and Leslie Jr. Crawford, Great granddaughter : Lindsey Nicole Bouchard, 3 sisters: Polly, Edna and Jeannie, several nieces and nephews, and favorite lap warmer: Trauma "the kitty". Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Veda and brother Paul.
Betty Lou Slater
Of Vassar, age 73, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Betty was born September 21, 1927 in Vassar, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton and Gladys (Wagner) Grainger. She and Zenis Slater were united in marriage May 8, 1948. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1996. Surviving are 3 children: Charles and wife Debra Slater of Vassar; Kristine and husband Randy Vincent of Vassar; Douglas Slater of Bradenton, Florida; 5 grandchildren: Danielle Slater; Cory Slater; Jeff McCrandall; Jason Vincent; Kylie Vincent; sister: Bonnie and husband Gene Seney of Vassar; special friend Delores Oprea. A graveside committal service will be held 12:30 pm Saturday June 30, 2001 at Tuscola Township Cemetery with Rev. Cyril Haines officiating. Age 65, of Millington, formerly of Flint, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will take place 10:00 am Monday, July 2, 2001 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the Miles Martin Funeral Home to receive friends on Saturday from 6-9:00 pm and on Sunday from 10-3:00 pm and from 5-9:00 pm. On Sunday evening, family, friends and parish will gather for a Rosary at the funeral home at 7:00pm. On Monday morning, Lila will be taken to church to lie in state from 9am until the time of funeral mass at 10:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions directed towards St. Mary's Church. Lila was born July 29, 1935 in Cheboygan, MI. She was one of eight children born to Frederick C. and Anna H. (Webster) Domke. She and Milton Wild were united in marriage on June 22, 1956 in Cheboygan, MI. Lila was a resident of Flint for 17 years before moving to Millington in 1973 where she has resided since. She loved to make crafts and was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Surviving are her husband: Milton of Millington; 5 children: Robin and Randy Hardenburg of Swartz Creek; Daniel Wild of Flint; Vicki and Brian O'Neil of Swartz Creek; Shari and John Pichey of Flint Twp.; Nina and Junior Belmarez of Muskegon, MI.; 8 grandchildren: Mary Sue, Jared, Christopher, Joshua, April, Devin, Erica, Krista, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: E.W. Age 80 of Columbiaville, Went to be with the Lord on Wed. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at AC Spark Plug and Buick Motor Co. for 40 years. He is survived by his children: William H. and Sherry L. Holloway of Davison; Brenda Swords of Davison; Patrick and Elly Holloway of Otisville; Michael J. Denis R. Bourque
Age 45, of Genesee, died Monday June 25, 2001 at his residence. He fought a 10 year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Friday June 29, 2001 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Paul Schwermer officiating, burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Miles Martin Funeral Home from 6-9:00 pm Wednesday, and 11-9:00 pm Thursday. Thursday evening at 8:00 pm family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary. Friday morning Denis will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service. Denis was born November 17, 1955 in Port Huron the son of Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Jean Noel Roger and Esther Julia (Bouvet) Bourque. Denis and Teresa O'Brien were united in marriage October 25, 1991 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. He was employed as a registered nurse at Hurley Medical Center. Denis served in the United States Marine Corps. Denis learned to swim and joined the Flint Northern Swim Team, lettering for 3 years. He graduated from Flint Northern and was a graduate of Hurley School of Nursing. He coached at Flint Swim and Racket Club and Flint Northern Swim Team. Denis enjoyed collecting baseball memorabilia especially the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a avid antique collector. He truly enjoyed buying presents for others. Survivors include his wife: Teresa; 3 children: Mathieu of Cheboygan; Emilie and Abigail at home; brother: Paul and wife Sue Bourque; sisters: Julie Bourque and Alice and husband Brian Fitzgerald; parents: John and Esther Bourque; sister-in-laws: Annette O'Brien; Virginia O'Brien; brother-in-laws: Tim and wife Beth O'Brien; Aaron and wife Mary O'Brien; Andy and wife Heather O'Brien; Kevin and wife Jennifer O'Brien; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marshall J. "Cobb" Standerfer
Age 87, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Thursday, June 21, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Michigan after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 25, 2001 from the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Cook officiating. Burial in Mt. Morris Cemetery. Family will be present at the funeral home from 12-noon until 9:00 pm to receive friends on Sunday. Marshall was a member of Local 599 and he worked at Buick Motor as a Millwright For 40 years. He retired in March of 1977. He is preceded in death by Helen, his beloved wife of 50 years. He is survived by his sons, Philip, of Gladstone, MI., Michael and Nancy, of Mt. Morris, MI, David and wife Audrey of Kenai, Alaska, and daughter Kathleen and husband Max Howard of Gladstone, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mary and husband Gary Oakley, Bruce and wife Cheryl Dykes, Erik and wife Alicia Standerfer, Jeannie, Kelly, Ben and Jon Standerfer and his great-grandchildren Kali and Bryce Dykes. Cobb quit school at an early age but his love of reading made him a very well educated man. He loved wood working, gardening, watching golf and spending time with his family. He loved music and laughter and the sounds of his grandchildren's voices. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Age 61 of Mt. Morris, loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother died Sunday June 17, 2001 at her residence. Funeral Service will take place 2:00p.m. Wed. June 20, 2001 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zinn Family. Joan was born December 30, 1939 in Flint the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Rita Kelly. She and George Zinn were united in marriage January 14, 1955. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Arbella Rd. She enjoyed playing bingo, yahtzee, and cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing the machines at Gillies. Many people also knew her as the "Carpet Lady". She and her husband George raised four foster children: Leo and Connie Stuck, Randy Klamert, and Cathy Bacca She is survived by husband George 3 children: George Zinn Jr. and wife Sherry of Mt. Morris; Susan McNeal and husband Danny of Huntington, Indiana; Douglas Zinn and wife Aime of Burton; Grandchildren: George Zinn III, Michael Zinn, Mandy Heagy, Misty McNeal, Christopher Reinard, Jeremy Reinard, April Reinard, Nicole Zinn, Joshua Zinn, Sarah Zinn; Great grandchildren: Alexandria and Paige Heagy. Brothers and sisters: sister-in-law Brenda Kelly of Mt. Edward was born June 11, 1916 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Edna (Maxfield) Selleck in Richfield Township. He was a diesel mechanic working for Lefler Gravel Company and the Genesee County Road Commission with 35 years of service. Edward married Sigvulda Burgess November 14, 1947 in Napolean, Ohio. survivors include: wife: Sigvulda; 3 children: Gerald and wife Ruth Ann Selleck of Fife Lake, MI.; Vivian and husband Loran Hart of Genesee, MI.; Kathleen and husband Dale Martin of Flint; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marjorie Snider of Flint; Jean Adle of Mt. Morris; 2 brothers: Max Selleck of Flint; Vernon Selleck of Mt. Morris; son in law: Garry Powers of Lapeer. He was preceeded in death by daughter Loretta Powers, parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Otis H. Miller
Of Vassar, age 92, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at St.Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Otis was born October 23, 1908 in Elkton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. and Lou L. (Hazard) Miller. He and Frances L. Fuller were united in marriage May 21, 1932. She preceded him in death June 25, 2000. Otis worked as a farmer and retired from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. Surviving are, his daughter Sandra Miller of Vassar; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, brothers Lee and Don Miller, and sister Joyce Perez. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiating. Burial in Tuscola Cemetery. Roy was born October 23, 1928 in Breckenridge, MI. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. and Margaretta (Bott) Webber. He and Lillian M. Kissinger were united in marriage on July 3, 1953 in Angola, Ind. Roy served in the US Army from 1950-52, and worked for Turnstedt for 32 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the UAW #326 and the Gladwin Eagles. He enjoyed motorcycle and auto racing, and wood carving. Surviving are: his wife Lillian; 3 sons: Steven C. (Timbra) of Gladwin; Roy E. III (Kimberly) of Clio; David P. Susan was born August 12, 1960 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David R. and Lyda (Decator) Miller. She married Craig Miller January 16, 1982. Prior to her illness she had been employed for the DuroLast Corporation in Saginaw. She is survived by Husband: Craig; Parents: David and Lyda Miller of Otisville; Grandmother: Bernice Miller of Grayling; 2 sisters: Mary and husband Jimmie Kinney of Grand Blanc; Alice and husband Robert Koski of Riverton, Wyoming.
Paul James Boone
Age 79 of Flint died Wednesday June 6, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with military honors by Davison VFW #4086. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-9pm Saturday and all day Sunday. Sunday evening the Davison VFW #4086 will gather at the funeral home for a VFW Memorial. Paul was born November 25, 1921 in Alamo, TN the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude and Nancy (Dill) Boone. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Navy, and was a Lifemember of Davison VFW #4086. He and Ocal Howard were united in marriage in Arkansas 1946 and they moved to Michigan 1950. He retired September 1981 from Consumers Power. Surviving are his wife: Ocal; Daughter: Paula and husband Boyd Muske of Brenham, TX; Son: Jim "Steve" and wife Judi Boone of Montrose; 5 grandchildren: Jim Ford; Joey Ford; Jason Boone; Justin Boone and fiancé Holly Kirby; Stephanie Boone and fiancé Brett Stroup. Great grand-daughter: Taylor Boone, Brother: Ernest Boone of Ft. Collins, CO; Several nieces and nephews. William John Carrigan

William was born February 16, 1913 in Flint the son of Mr. And Mrs. Charles and Clara (Ginster) Carrigan. He and Margaret E. Tufts were united in marriage in 1935 at St. Mary's in Flint, they were married for over 50 years. William was the valedictorian of the first graduating class at St. Mary's Flint. He worked as a tool and die repairman for 38 years at Fischer Body #1 and he participated in the Flint Sit Down Strike in 1937. Surviving are: 3 children, Margaret Mary (Robert W.) Age 70, died Friday June 1, 2001 at her home. Donna was born June 3, 1930 in Lapeer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil W. And Bernice M. (Waite) Colosky. She and Kenneth D. Johnson were united in marriage June 7, 1947 in North Branch. In June they would celebrate their 54th Wedding Anniversary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, collecting dolls, rummage sales, raising Chihuahua dogs. Surviving are, husband, Kenneth; seven children, Linda Johnson of Vassar, Kenneth Winfield and wife Carol Johnson of Mayville, Sally and husband Harry Sziber of Vassar, Penny Ann and husband Timothy A. William O. "Bill" Strickland
Age 72, of Flint, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at his home ending a hard fought battle with Cancer. Funeral service will take place 1:00 PM Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Pastor Michael Durbin officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday from 3 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North End Baptist Church Building Fund. Mr. Strickland was born June 5, 1928 in Franklin County, AL, the son of William and Mettie Strickland. He moved to Michigan in 1947, working for and retiring from Fisher Body. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post #8236. He married Vera Reid in 1954. She preceded him in death March 3, 1997. He was a member of the North End Baptist Church and was also an avid gardener, and enjoyed taking frequent trips home to Alabama over the years. William was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He is survived by 3 sons: Douglas and Catherine Strickland of Flint Twp., Timothy and Vicky Strickland of Lapeer, Roger and Joyce Strickland of Red Bay, AL; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, John, Jason, Isabelle and Jeremy; aunt, Artie and Milos Strickland of Houghton Lake, aunt, Linnie Strickland of Red Bay, AL; good friend and caregiver, Earline Loucks of Mt. Morris; numerous cousins and friends in Michigan and Alabama. He was also preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express a special Thank You to the McLaren Hospice.
