Age 94 of Mt. Morris, died Monday January 29, 2001 at Willowbrook Manor. Funeral Service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday February 2, 2001 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Mr. Vernon Lawrence officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 Wed., 12-9 Thursday and on Friday from 9:00 am until time of service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Willowbrook Manor. Norma was born January 14, 1907 in Vincennes, Indiana., the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Chris and Eva(Presnell) Schultz. She was married to Wathan Hays who predeceased her. She then married Henry Ross who predeceased her. She then married Alexander Mark who also predeceased her. Surviving are: 2 daughters: Mary Ella and husband Keith Walker of Kingsley, Mich.; Marva and husband Gary Aris of Mt. Morris; 2 sons: Robert and wife Alma Hays of Leesburg, Fla.; Donald Hays of Shepherdsville, Ky.; 2 stepsons: Alexander and wife Eleanor Mark of Flint ; Joseph and wife Jean Mark of Flushing; daughter-in-law: Bessie Hays of Roscommon; 22 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Richard, a granddaughter, 3 great grandsons, 2 sisters and 1 brother, 2 daughters -in-law, Joy Hay and Clara Hays.
Lewis Earl Lince
Age 75, of Flint, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Eagle officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on from Wednesday 9am-9:00 pm. and Thursday from 9:00 am until time of service. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the family fund, envelopes available at the funeral home. He was born May 14, 1925 in Flint the son of Mr. And Mrs. Herbert and Edna (Lewis) Lince. He had worked for Genesee Fire Dept. No. 2 for 45 years and had also worked for General Motors for 58 years and retirement. Member of UAW Local 599. He operated L & M Sharpening. He enjoyed being with his family and working in his garage. Lewis was a loving husband , father, and grandfather. He loved life and laughter, and was always helping out anyway he could. Of Grand Blanc age 76 died Wednesday January 24, 2001 at his home. Funeral services will be 10am from Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Tim Nelson, Rev. Fr. Tom Firestone, and Deacon Jim Brown will officiate. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Morris. Mr. Head will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call 4-9pm Satuday, 9-9. He will be taken to church to lie in state from 9am until time of services at 10am . Family friends and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary 6:30 pm Sunday January 28, 2001. Clarence was born November 18, 1924 Barberton, OH the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Eldred and Laura Catherine (Eisele) Head. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army in Europe as a forward observer. He retired in 1982 with Head Construction in Monroe, MI. which he owned and operated for 22 years. He was united in marriage to Margaret Slattery Deitering August 7, 1972 in Auculpuco, Mexico, and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church since 1993 coming from St. Mary, Monroe. Beatrice C. Stefko
Of Fairgrove, age 97, died Tuesday January 23, 2001 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Beatrice was born September 27, 1903 near Deford in Tuscola County to Mahlon and Irene (Sweet) Cooper. She graduated from Cass City High School and attended County Normal. She also attended Ypsilanti Normal College in 1922. She taught elementary school in Deford for two years. Beatrice married Vern Wright at Cass City in 1923. Besides teaching she also was a bookkeeper for Sun Oil Co., an inspector for Dow Metal Co. In Bay City, Postmaster at Fairgrove for 21 years. Beatrice was a member of the Presbyterian Church and also was Worthy Matron of the Fairgrove O.E.S. Chapter. She was preceded in death by husband Vern Wright in 1963, her second husband John Stefko in 1972 and a sister, Doris Hunter in 1995. She is survived by two sons: Burton and wife Toni Wright of Alpena; Calvin and wife Barbara Wright of Sebring, Florida; Six grandchildren, Susan Chambers of Caro; Ginger and Brad Barnes of Fairgrove; Tim and Paula Wright of Boyne City; Bill Wright of Chicago, Ill; Jeff and Julie Wright of Portland, Or.; Tracie and Terr LaMontagne of Waukegan, Ill.; Nine great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Fairgrove with Pastor Rich Lawther officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery . Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 9-9:00 pm and Friday 9-2:00 pm the time of service. Born October 25, 1936 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Faye (Meyers) Smith. He and Elaine Burns were united in marriage April 30, 1955. He retired from General Motors with 31 years service and moved to northern Michigan for his love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting camping, and 3 wheeling. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 629 of Flint. He proudly adopted his 3 youngest grandchildren. Surviving are wife: Elaine; Children: Allen and wife Joanne Smith of Mt. Morris; Gloria and husband Randy Cates of Genesee; Cindy and husband Rob Einerwold of Indiana; Joseph Smith of Flint; Marie Hill of Lupton; 12 Grandchildren: Eddie; Rachel; Casey; Carrie; Bradley; Terra; Jessica; Camie; Michael; Colton; 2 deceased Grandchildren Jennifer and Nicholas. Brothers: Ferman and Johnnie; Sisters: Donna and Neva. Preceded in death by brothers Charles, Leroy and Jerry, and sisters Margie, June, and his parents. Several nieces and nephews survive him.

Raymond Urbanek officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends 6-9:00 pm Tuesday and 9-9:00 pm Wednesday. T.N. , envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Edwin was born July 26, 1923 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Dorothy (Hanson) Sweet. Edwin and Edna were united in marriage February 23, 1946 in Flint. He retired from GM in 1971 with almost 20 years of service. Edwin was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. He joined the Boy Scouts in 1963, and served in many capacities, including 10 years as a chaplain. He also participated in Woodbadge Training. His honors include receiving the Silver Beaver in 1970, being inducted as a Vigil member in the Order of the Arrow, and receiving the Order of the Arrow Founders award in 1989 among others. Age 95, of Mt. Morris died Saturday January 20, 2001 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Harold Flynn officiating. Burial at Gracelawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral from 5-9 Monday and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. James was born April 5, 1905 in Charleston, Arkansas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. and Alice (McCracken) Flynn. He and Nettie Ferguson were united in marriage September 6, 1925 in Charleston. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1982. He retired in 1967 from A.C. Spark Plug as a pipefitter with 25 ½ years service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Skidway Lake. Surviving are 7 Grandchildren: Jimmy, Nancy , Allen, Chris, Diane, Rick, Peggy; 15Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 brother: Jack Flynn. Michael was born on January 17, 1970 in Flint the son of Michael Black and Suzann and stepfather William Hersch. He was a member of the Clio Eagles #3609, he worked for Ed Kusky House moving. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and slots. She had worked for Supreme Donuts and AC Spark Plug . Her hobbies included crocheting and bowling. Surviving are her children Elizabeth and Richard Eckstein of Mt. Joe was born March, 21, 1927 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Mary (Uvacik) Holicki. Mr. Holicki was a member of Trinity Assembly of God, and a church usher. He was a life time member of the VFW. He served in WW II. He worked for GM with 36 years of service, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking and bow hunting. Joe and Mary were united in marriage July 19, 1947 in Angola, IN. He accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in June of 1990, as have his wife, all his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: wife Mary of 53 years; 5 children: Dennis and wife Shelley Holicki of Flushing; Laurie and husband Dennis Rockwell of Mt. Morris; Dr. Joe and wife Heidi Holicki of Coldwater, MI ; twin sister: Karen and husband Terry Allman of Mt. Delos D. Prime
Of Fairgrove, age 81, died Monday, January 15, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Prime was born July 2, 1919 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Pearl (Harding) Prime. Delos and Dorothy O'Connor were united in marriage January 5, 1939. She preceded him in death March of 1990. He enjoyed collecting old clocks, old wrenches, cast iron seats, and gas engines. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Thumb Area Old Engine & Tractor Association. Delos was a life long farmer and a lifetime member of the Fairgrove United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are three sons and their spouses: Jim and wife Lynn Prime, Dick and wife Barb Prime, Bob and wife Susan Prime all of Fairgrove; seven grandchildren: Kevin Prime of Fairgrove, Kelly Prime of Southfield, Theresa and husband Tim Timko of Caro, Paula Prime of Reading, Pennsylvania, Polley Prime of Saginaw, Rebecca and husband Lee Crosby of Akron, Robbie Prime of Fairgrove; two great grandsons: Nicholas and Brenden Timko; one sister: Grace Ruthig of Saginaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Madelean Garrison. Mr. Carson was born September 4, 1953 in Flint the son of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Carson Jr. and Velda (Faye) Sargent Bruder. He served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division from 1971-74. He worked for Buick on the assembly line and was a member of Buick Local #599. Samuel was a devoted family man who enjoyed riding motorcycles and he loved fishing and hunting with his Uncle Bob. He leaves a 1 year old Grandson he cherished and enjoyed. Samuel was a member of the Flyin Wheels M/C. He leaves to cherish his memories: Daughter: Samantha Carson; Grandson Noah; Granddaughter Scarlett; Son: Jon Dale Morey; Love of his life Janet Morey; Mother: Faye; Brothers and Sisters: Marilyn and Howard Walters; Jacalyn Carson; Terry and Eugene Short; Dona Merrow and Bob Large; Billy and Shelia Sargent II; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; 2 great nieces, Morgan and Danielle; Many friends. Cecil M. Peters
Passed away at home with her family after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. She always kept a positive attitude and had a zest for life. She has donated her body to the University of Michigan Research Center. A memorial service will be held 3 pm Wednesday January 17, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Cecil was born July 5, 1930 in Flint, the daughter of Cecil Mark and Magdalene (Hurkley) Prevost. In her younger years she waitressed at the Pink Garter, Cromer's Restaurant, and the Red Rooster. She worked for G.M. for 10 years. Most recently she was employed by Towne Center Pharmacy in Mt. Morris, where she was able to share her joy for life with others. She was an active member with P.L.A.V. Aux. #8, American Legion Post #342 and Fraternal Order of Eagles - Flint Aries #629. She was a loving and devoted mother who was always involved with the activities of her 5 children. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, Cecil was also a loyal Red Wings Fan. Survivors include 4 children: Mark and wife Garee Wells of Las Vegas, Nevada; Debra and husband John Ketelhut of Beaverton; Pam Peters of Mt. Morris; Jeff and wife Danyl Peters of Davison; 4 grandchildren: Brian and Jason Ketelhut of Flint; Stephanie and Alexis Peters of Davison; 1 great grandchild Jalen Ketelhut; brother: John and Donna Prevost of Escondido, CA.; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by husband Jerry and daughter Nancy.

Pleasant, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Kathryn (Fostenaul) Bullard. Janetta and William were united in marriage August 19, 1946 in Angola, IN. Mrs. McDonald was a L.P.N. at St. Joseph Hospital for 17 years. Survivors include husband of 55 years William of Flint; 3 sons: William and Karen McDonald of Davison; Ronald and wife Dottie McDonald of Vassar; Gerald McDonald of Lansing; 2 daughters: Macia and husband Paul Poley of Edmund, OK.; Nancy Michener of Flint; 9 grandchildren; brother: Edward and Mary Bullard of Midland; sister: Donna Kane of Davison; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. We know that when she met the Lord, he must have said "well done good and faithful servant" We will miss her tremendously.

Of Vassar, age 83, died Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Pat's Country Care Home in Ossineke. Norman was born July 4, 1917 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. And Mathilda (Miller ) Stange. He and Dorothy M. Bender were united in marriage May 3, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Norman worked on the family farm all of his life. Before retiring he had been employed at Newton Plumbing and Heating for about 20 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Surviving are, wife Dorothy: daughters: Judy Ann and husband Jim Stinson of Alpena; Janet Sue and husband Henry Bloom of Ossineke; 10 grandchildren: Jane and husband Brian Faylor, Janine and husband Mike, Peterson, Justine and husband Keith Krentz, Julie and husband Brian Haubenstricker, Jason Werner, Jon Werner, Josh Werner, Larry Bloom, Lori and husband Bruce Reiffer, Keith and wife Nicki Bloom; 12 great grandchildren; Numerous nieces and nephews; former son-in-law: Gerald and wife Penny Werner of Spruce. Mrs. Winterlee was born September 12, 1919 in Gaylord the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Louis & Sophia (Puczycki) Nawrocki. She and Howard Winterlee were united in marriage on January 4, 1941. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1986. She was a lifelong member of the St Mary Catholic Church of Mt. Morris and the St. Rose Guild of the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella Circle # 530. Elizabeth loved and lived for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the most loving, caring and giving mother in the world, she will be greatly and sadly missed. Of Vassar, age 80, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper in Saginaw. Mildred was born November 22, 1920 in Franklin County, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. And Mattie J. (West) Doss. She and William Rushford were united in marriage January 29, 1944 in Texas. She was a member of the Tuscola Community Church. Surviving are, husband, William of Vassar; two daughters, Brenda Stilson of Vassar and Donna and husband LeRoy Engelhart of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Stacy Stilson and Kelly Stilson of Vassar, and Rachel Engelhart of Bad Axe; two brothers, Ray Doss of Louisana and Lester and wife Lonnie Doss of Illinois; four sisters, Margie Allen of Illinois, Jane and husband Carl Hudgens, Mary Jane and husband Odell Ashmore, Barb McCoy all of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Don and wife Barbara Miller, sister-in-law, Sally and husband Chuck Schnurer, and Shirley and husband Wayne Stanley all of Michigan; and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Caro Community Hospital. Albert, age 81, of Vassar, was born May 1st, 1919 in Cheboygan, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Sova and Elizabeth Leonard. He and Irene Weber Petty were united in marraige on November 13th, 1971. He retired from AC Spark Plug in Flint after 32 years of service. Albert was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar where he served as an usher, the Richville American Legion Post #0400, V.F.W. # 3087 - Flint, the Knights of Columbus, Military Order of the #6 Cooties, the Vassar Eagles, U.A.W. Local Retirees # 651. Albert also served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Surviving are his wife Irene; 3 children: Sandy and Walt Keyes of Vassar; Dick Petty of Holt, MI.; Barb and Chip Reinert of Vassar; 10 grandchildren: Scott and Karen Keyes, Lori Morris, Steven and Becky Keyes, Renae and Don Hull, Mark Petty and Kimberly, Ryan Petty, Kelly and Vernon Southmayd, Cindi and Tom Wilinski, Cara Lemmen, Scott Lemmen and Debbie; 14 great-grandchilden: Kristin, Erin, Randi, Robyn, Kelsey and Kerry, Lindsey, Lance and Zachary, Emily, Miranda and Makenzie, Madelyn, Tristan; Siblings: Gay Neugebauer, Elaine Briley, Lucille Fenlon, Theresa and Jim Bell, Armand and Delores Sova, Sisters-in-law: Rose Sova, Hilda Sova, Sharon Sova; Al leaves numerous special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday from the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar. Rev. John A. Ederer officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday from 12-9:00 pm. On Sunday evening, family and friends will gather for a Vigil Prayer service at 7:30pm. On Monday, Albert will be taken to the church to lie in state from 12 noon until the time of services at 1:00 pm.

Saturday morning Mr. Metevier will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Herbert was born February 19, 1936 in Cheboygen the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Leon Metevier and Beatrice Mae LaVere- Metevier. He and Carol Inman were united in marriage April 14, 1956. He retired 1991 from Hamady Brothers Super Market with 38.5 years service in management. Surviving are wife: Carol; 3 children: Catherine Genella of Mt. Morris; Kevin and wife Renee Metevier of Mt. Morris; Cynthia and husband Ralph Adkins of Flint; 6 grandchildren: Herb III; Jeremy; Shannon; Tony; Paul; Justin; 2 brothers: Richard Metevier; and Gary Metevier; Mother-in-law: Doris Inman; Aunt: Susie M. Mimi was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union and the Slovene National Benefits Society. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals and her family. Surviving are her parents, Joseph and Germaine Stimac; Brothers and Sisters: Jospeh, Deborah, Lori, David, Michael, Matthew and Sarah; Half Sisters: Candy Flowers and Nicole Rivette; Half Brother: Chad Rivette; Many nieces, nephews and cousins; Former husband: Dennis Avery.
