Age 86 of Mt. Morris died Tuesday June 27, 2000 at McLaren Hospice. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday from Our Savior Lutheran Church, Saginaw St. South of Carpenter Rd. Pastor Joe Cottam officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Miles Martin Funeral Home Thursday from 2- 9pm. Family will be present to receive friends from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to McLaren Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born April 15, 1914 in Bad Axe the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert and Ethel (English) Hind. He and Leona Marquardt were united in marriage in Bad Axe June 11, 1938. Mr. Hind began work at AC Spark Plug Division where he served on plant security until his retirement in 1974 with 34 years service. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for over 45 years. Surviving are his wife: Leona; 3 children: 2 daughters and 1 son: Robert and wife Marlene Hind of Fenton; Audrey Jenkins-Thorne of Aurora CO; Barbara and husband Tom Ries of Fenton; 5 grandchildren: Nicole Hind; Michelle Hind; Laurie Jenkins; Michael Jenkins; Jessica Ries; and several nieces and nephews.

On Friday 9:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 pm. She was born September 9, 1915 in Toledo, OH the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Joseph and Orilla (Merritt) Wilkinson. She and Jerome Chartrand were united in marriage May 18, 1933. He preceded her in death March 12, 1984. For several years she worked at Walli's Supper Club until her retirement. James Matthew Havlichek Sr.
Age 78 of Clio, died Monday June 26, 2000 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Friday June 30, 2000 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Mr. Havlichek was born January 31, 1922 in Manistique, MI the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. and Cora Belle (Lasley) Havlichek. He and Lois were united in marriage April 22, 1946. She preceded him in death. He retired from Teamsters as a truck driver with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Catholic Faith. Survivors include 2 sons and 2 daughters: Frank and wife Linda Havlichek of CA, James and wife Cindy Havlichek of Linden, Judy Havlichek of CA, Marjorie Stewart of Mt. Morris, 4 grandchildren: Michelle, James III, Michael and Matthew, Special Care giver Susan.
Frances Lora Miller
of Vassar, age 87, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Tendercare in Cass City. Frances was born May 6, 1913 in Otisville, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Sidney and Gertrude "Gerty" (Sherman) Fuller. On May 21, 1932 she and Otis Miller were united in marraige. She was a member of Vassar First Baptist Church. Frances was a member of Women's Christian Temperance Union for 59 years and had served as District President. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing dresses & aprons, raising her 300 parakeets, parades, ponies and writing. Surviving are husband: Otis; daughter: Sandra Miller of Vassar; sister: Mrs. Jean Fackler of Mayville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Vassar with Rev. Carl Briggs officiating. Interment in Tuscola Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar from 5-9pm Tuesday, 9-9 Wednesday, and 9am until the time of service on Thursday. Bruce D. "Ted" Curtis

Bruce was born on April 17, 1934 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Edna (Davy) Curtis. He and Theda Blanchard were united in marriage on August 15, 1953. Bruce was a Laser Welder Operator for GM. He was a former member and driver for Kearsley Rescue Squad. Ted always had a building or repair project in progress, he was ready to immediately drop that project to help someone in need of his help. Surviving are wife: Theda; 2 sons: Terry and wife Kim Curtis of Flint; Dale and wife Lori Curtis of Genesee; 7 grandchildren: 1 great grandchild; former daughter-in-law: Patricia L. Charles Edward Scott
Age 70, died Friday June 23, 2000 at his residence in Mt. Morris. Funeral service will take place on Monday June 26, 2000 at 11:00 am, from the North End Baptist Church. With Pastor Mike Durbin officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at Miles Martin Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-9pm and on Sunday from 12-9pm. On Monday morning Mr. Scott will be taken to the North End Baptist Church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00. Memorial contributions may be directed to McLaren Hospice. Charles was born January 18, 1930 in Tyronza, Arkansas, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charley W. Scott and Crystelle Monaghan Scott Eller. He married Juanita Pickett on December 9, 1955 in Rossville, Ga. and came to Michigan to live where they have resided for 44 years. Mr. Scott was a retired veteran with 20 years of service. He served with the US Navy for 31 months, was in the Korean Conflict serving 18 months and retired from the US Army in 1969. He worked for GM for 2 years and retired from the Flint Board of Education where he served as an electrician with 32 years of service. He was a member of the North End Baptist Church for 43 years, having served as a Deacon for over 40 years, a song leader, treasurer for 20 years, a youth leader for many years and a greeter at the door with a "Big Hug" for everyone. He was a life member of the Mason Lodge F.& A.M. #535. Charles loved his church, family and friends very much. He is survived by his wife, Nita, the love of his life; his beloved daughter, Gaylynne Chaney and husband Dennis; his sister, Nita Byrne of Chesterfield, MO.; his brother: Lee Scott and wife Paula of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; several nieces and nephews, good friends and church family. Ethel was born October 1, 1928 in Flint Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Maybell (House) Hillaker. She and husband Frederick Stehle were united in marriage on November 19, 1977. Survivors are husband: Frederick; 6 children Twila and husband Ralph Sallas; Kirby and wife Donna Stehle; Mike and wife Pam Esslinger; Julie and husband Wes Usry; Sara Mugavero; Paula Robinson; 13 grandchildren; 4 great Grandchildren; brother: Elwyn Esslinger; sisters: Kathryn Salim; Margaret Hillaker; and many nieces and nephews. Donation may be considered for the Federation of the Blind. She was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Ernest Neal Hillaker II.

Johnny was a life time resident of the Flint area until moving to Pocahontas 2years ago. Survivors are son: Donald Watkins; mother: Mary and husband Mark Borton of Pocahontas,Ar.; 2 sisters: Kathy and husband Tom Parker of Kalamazoo; Karen and Scott Twining of Wapakoneta,Oh.; Twin brother: Ron Watkins of Alcona; Step brother: Darren and wife Amy Borton of Ga.; 2 Nieces and 4 Nephew: Thomas Crawford, Joshua Watkins, Rocky Parker, Shalynn Twining, Nick Twining, Shelby Borton. The family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Sunday from 4-6 p.m .and at the church on Monday from 12 noon until time of service. Florence was born November 19, 1908 in Joplin, Missouri, the oldest daughter o f nine children of Mr. & Mrs. Charles and Mattie(Shaw) She had worked as Stenographer and Sales Clerk to help support her brothers and sister. She and Ronald Bigelow were united in marriage , October 8, 1932 . H e preceded her in death in 1976. After her children left home she re-turned to work at Maas Brothers in Flint and later at Lucille Allen's Ladies Apparel in Mt. Morris. Surviving are 7 Children: Jim and Mary Lou Bigelow; JoAnn and Robert Buchanan; Jack and Sondra Bigelow; Janet and John Muir; Kenneth and Fran Bigelow; Dean Bigelow; Jennie and Gary Jean; 24 Grandchildren; 26 Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters: Louise Sanders; Annice Knopf; Betty Mottashed. She was preceded in death by husband Ronald, Parents, Sons Stanley and Richard Granddaughter Kendra and also 2 Grandsons. Brother, Thomas and William and Sisters, Ophelia, AraLee, and Emma.. Jack D. "Sid" McAlpine
Of Fairgrove, Age 76 died Saturday June 10 , 2000 at Bay Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday June 13, 2000 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove. Rev. David Petersen to officiate, with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday 5-9pm, all day Monday. Tuesday Jack will be taken to church to lie in state at 10 am until service time. Jack was born May 24,1924 in Fairgrove, MI. The son of William & Nellie (Kramer) McAlpine. Jack was a life long Farmer and Insurance Salesman. He married Dorothy Holzwart on January 12, 1945 a union that lasted 55 years. In 1956 Jack was elected to the board of Directors of Sebawing Mutual Fire Insurance Company taking his fathers position. He was president for many years and remained president until the time of his death. In 1957, he founded the Jack D. McAlpine Insurance Agency in Fairgrove. He was very active and held offices and positions in Fairgrove's Michigan Bean Festival, Fairgrove Business Men Association, Fairgrove Lions Club, Vassar Golf and Country Club, Tuscola County Historical Society. He was also a member of The Grace Lutheran Church since 1949. Jack was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter, Fisherman and softball pitcher, pitching for 35 years and winning one state title in 1957. Jack was an admirer of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors, wife: Dorothy, six children Dr. Barry ( Kim) McAlpine, Dr. Fred (Linda) McAlpine, Ed(Lil) McAlpine, Karen (Joe) Kata, Gloria McAlpine, Dr. Josh McAlpine, sister: Glenna Baron, brother: William McAlpine, 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Dr. Warren and Dr. James McAlpine, 2 grandsons Bob Fry, Mike Stephens.
Peter Fusi Jr.
Age 74 of Mt. Morris died Friday June 9, 2000 at McLaren Regional Medical Cntr. Family will gather for prayers at Miles Martin Funeral Home 9:30am Monday then proceed to Mt. Morris St. Mary Catholic Church for Funeral services at 10am. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Fusi will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call from 1-9pm Sunday. Sons of Italy will gather at the funeral home for a memorial service at 6pm Sunday. Family, friends and parish will gather at the funeral home 7pm Sunday to pray the Rosary. Memorials may be considered for the Pete Fusi Scholarship Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born December 17, 1925 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pietro Martin Fusi and Annette Cappello - Fusi. He and Beatrice Rossio were united in marriage June 19, 1948. Peter was a graduate of Flint Northern High School where he excelled in Football. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a tailgunner in the US Air Force stationed in Italy. He was a graduate of Michigan State College majoring in Physical Education with a minor in English. Peter played and excelled in football all 4 years at State. He began his teaching and coaching career at Bessemer serving from 1951-1960. he came to Mt. Morris 1960 serving as Head Football Coach, Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director. In 1967 he became Assistant Principal under Ron Bigelow and soon became Principal serving until his retirement in 1982. After retirement he began helping his son coach at Swartz Creek and then became Head Football Coach serving Swartz Creek for 3 seasons. He retired once more until he accepted the position of Head Football Coach at Mt. Morris for the 1987, 88, and 89 seasons. Retiring once again he began his new career in Retail working for Vic Bond Sales. He had many memorable seasons as coach in both Bessemer and Mt. Morris He was especially proud his undefeated seasons 1963 and 1988. Peter was an inductee in the Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame, Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame, Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He was the very first recipient of the "Oil Can Award" at Michigan State University. He received it 2 years in a row and was invited back this year to present it to the recipient for the 1999 Spartan football season. He was an inductee of the Mt. Morris Hall of Honor, and recipient of the Maria Montessori Educational Excellence Award. A member of Mt. Morris Holy Family Council #4285 Knight of Columbus, St. Mary Church, Sons of Italy Lodge#861, VFW and American Legion. Surviving are his wife: Bea; 3 children: Lanie and husband Bob Rice of Lowell; Janie and husband Dick Diehl of Flushing; Peter III and wife Debbie Fusi of Flushing; 5 grandchildren: Bob Rice; Dianna Rice; Jason Diehl; Paula Diehl; and Nick Fusi; brother: Eugene and wife Joy Fusi of Flint; sister: Shirley and husband Al Wallace of Flint; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, son Tony Fusi in 1957, and grandson Curtis Diehl 1984.

Born December 29, 1930 in Charlaston, Arkansas the son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. and Nettie (Ferguson) Flynn. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1948 - 1952 in Alaksa. and retired Fisher Body Coldwater Road plant as an electrician with 30 years service. Surviving are his 3 children: Jimmy Flynn of Flint; Allan and wife Roxanne Flynn of Swartz Creek; Chris Flynn of Flint; 3 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren: Charles, Karla, Robert, Michael, and Kaelyn. She and Richard A. Swann were united in marriage September 1, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flint. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. She formerly belonged to the womens club of St. Leo's Church and oversaw the youth group there. She had a love of flowers. Surviving are husband: Richard; 3 Children: Chris Swan of Flint; Rick Swann Jr. and fiancé' Michelle Wade of Jessup, MD.; Brad and wife Shelly Swann of Burton; 4 Grandchildren: Marc Swan; Emily Swann; Evin Swann; Brett Swann; 4 Brothers: Jack A. and wife Peggy Fournier; Jeffery M. and wife Carol Fournier; Douglas W. and wife Cindy Fournier; Edward J.
