Lloyd H. Diehl

Lake, Michigan. Formerly of Mt. Morris. Age 79 Died Wed. March 31, 1999 at Clare Hospital. Funeral service will take place 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 3, 1999 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Tom Ball officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12-3 and 6-9 Friday and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Assoc. Lloyd was born Dec. 24, 1919 in Flushing the son of M/M Frederick and Edith (Moyer) Diehl. He married Ellen L. Schoeppach Dec. 29, 1945. He served in the U.S.Navy during WW 2 and had been employed as a Bread Salesman for Schaefer Bakery for 40 years. Lloyd was a member of the U.C.T. and the Clare F.O.E #3977. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his Wife Ellen; 2 Sons: Donald and wife Karen Diehl of Port Huron; Richard and wife Joanna Diehl of Flushing; 4 Grandchildren: Danielle and husband Brian Kopper of Madison, Wisconsin; Jason Diehl of Lake Orion; Laurie Diehl of Port Huron; Paula Diehl of Flushing; 2 Sisters: Grace Goodenough and Thelma Dowen of both of Flushing; He was preceded in death by a Grandson Curtis Diehl and 3 Brothers, Clarence, Earl , Frank Diehl. 

Rosella Marie Washburn

Of Mt. Morris. Age 64 Died Friday March 26, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral service will take place 10:00 A.M. Tuesday March 30, 1999 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Pat Stybert will officiate with burial in Gresham Cemetery, Vermontville, Michigan. The family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home 5-9 PM Monday. She was born November 3, 1934 in Winn, Michigan the daughter of Leo and Dorothy(Young)Bellinger. She married Dallas Washburn July 28, 1951. She is survived husband: Dallas; 4 Children: Nola Washburn of Norman, Oklahoma; Joanne Washburn of Flint; Della and husband Dean Ashby of Skidway Lake, Michigan; Dallas and wife Rose Washburn of Mt. Morris; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; 3 Brothers and 3 Sisters. She was preceded in death by a son Don E. Washburn in 1968 

Burl Bowman

Age 89 of Genesee Twp. died Friday March 26, 1999 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM from Trinity Assembly of God. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Pastor David H. Krist will officiate. Mr. Bowman will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call 6-9 Saturday and 12-9PM Sunday. Monday Mr. Bowman will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 AM to time of funeral at 11:00 AM. Burl was Born July 27, 1909 in Paragould Arkansas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Mary C. (Barnes) Bowman. He and Verdell Johnson were united in marriage November 30, 1929. He retired from Buick as a supervisor with 26 years of service. He was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church. Surviving are wife: Verdell; 5 children: Burl J. and wife Joyce Bowman of Augres; Jayne and husband Joe Hooper of Linden; Patsy Martin of Flint; Vera and husband Gary Cornack of Swartz Creek; Keith and wife Debbie Bowman of Clio; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. 

Craig James Brown

Of Haslett, age 57, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing. Funeral services will be 11am Monday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with military honors bye VFW Langsburg Post and Gordon Bennett Post. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 7-9pm and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8pm. Born January 11, 1942 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Grace (Annis) Brown. Craig and Paula Martin-Gray were united in marriage March 1, 1998. He was Vietnam veteran serving with the US Air Force and a member of VFW Laingsburg Post. He was employed with Semi Staffings of Flint as a driver. Surviving are his wife Paula; 3 children: Jeffrey and wife Pam Brown of Missouri; David Brown of Piggott, Ark.; Shanda and husband Russell Fox of Bloomingdale; 5 stepchildren: Rebecca Miller; Joshua Miller; Aaron Miller; Morgan Miller; and Matthew Gray all of Laingsburg; Mother: Grace Brown of Mt. Morris; Sister: Susan and husband Charles Hess of Aiken, SC; Nephew: Mike Hess of Florida; Niece: Jennifer and husband Aaron Myers of Charleston, SC; neice Lisa Hess of Jackson; Great nephew: Owen Myers. Justin Thomas Smith

Born in Flint February 3, 1999 the son of Jeanette Marie Carnes and Anthony Bryant Smith. Eltora Ann Schuler

Age 59 of Flint, was called to be with her Lord Monday March 22 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday from Our Savior Lutheran Church, 9601 N. Saginaw at Carpenter, Pastor Joe Cottam officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Mrs. Schuler will remain at Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 PM and Thursday from 9am-9pm. Friday morning Ann will be taken to church to lie in state from 10 until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be considered for Our Savior Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and the church. Ann was born July 14, 1939 in Columbus Ohio, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Zelda (Reinstetle) Straub. She and Larry Schuler were united in marriage November 24, 1984. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and served as Church Organist for over 30 years and was choir director the past 10 years. Ann worked for many years at University of Michigan Flint. Surviving are her husband: Larry; 3 sons: James and wife Rebecca Bowers of Mt. Morris; Stephen and wife Lisa Kennedy of Clio; David and wife Rebecca Kennedy of Flint; Daughter-in-law: Cheryl Bowers of Petoskey; Stepchildren: Ted and wife Corrine Schuler of Linden; Sally and husband Jeff Chalpraw of Argentine; She was beloved Nanna to her 6 grandchildren: 5 step grandchildren: and 1 great grandchild. Also surviving is her brother Richard and wife Wanda Straub of Marion, Oh. And several nieces and nephews, and her extended family of Our Savior Luthern Church. 

Elmer A. Cheney Jr.

Age 71, of Mt. Morris, died at his residence Monday March 22, 1999. Funeral services will take place at Miles Martin Funeral Home 11:00 AM Friday, with Pastor Brian Lidbeck officiating. Burial to take place at Flint Memorial Park with military honors by Otter Lake VFW Post #2409. Friends may call the funeral home Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 9-9. Elmer was born September 1, 1927 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer A. And Coraline (Wright) Cheney Sr. He and Ginger Grant were united in marriage September 12, 1987. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Army for over 28 years, 3 wars including 4 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded Bronze Star, Air Medal and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with palm, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Otter Lake VFW Post. After his retirement from the U.S. Army he was employed with Zody Department stores and St. Joseph Hospital security retiring again 1989. Survivors include: wife Ginger; sons and daughters: Emma and husband Matt Maurice; Douglas Grant and Tina Jacob; Donald Grant and Kelly; Debbie Berry; Rick Grant and Leanne; Joy and husband James De Herraha; Pam and husband Jerry Sweigeret; Mercedes and husband Ren'e Mena; Billy Cheney; several Grand children and great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mary Moore; Dorothy Bennett; Several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: son Bobby Cheney; step son: Dustin Jansen; grand son: Dustin Jansen; 1 brother and 4 sisters. 

Laura L. "Dollie" Soderlund
Of Alma Masonic Home formerly of Mt. Morris age 90 died Monday March 22, 1999 at Gratiot Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2pm Thursday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Burkey officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 12 noon until time of services at 2pm. Born in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada September 17, 1908 the deaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. and Laura jane Buffett. She and Walter C. Soderlund were united in mariage June 6, 1936. He preceded her in death September 1, 1969. Dollie was a Lifemember and Past Matron of Mt. Morris Chapter #474 OES. Surviving are her 2 sisters: Lois B. Moore of Farmington Hills; and Gladys I. Lear of Bloomfield Hills. 6 nieces and 3 nephews. 

Travis Alexander Elasivich

Of Mt. Morris age 7 died Saturday March 20, 1999 at Hurley Medical Cntr. Funeral services will be held graveside 1:00 am Friday. Major Trevor Pascoe will officiate. Friends may call at the Miles Martin Funeral Home Thursday 6-8pm. Travis was born September 27, 1991 in Flint and was a 1st grader at Pinehurst Elementary Mt. Morris. Surviving are his mother: Wendy and fiancé Travis Jones; 2 sisters: Tierra and Tiphany; grandparents: Vicki Prince; James Penney; and Dan and Marie Elasivich; great grandmother: Ruth Prince; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Michael Edward Bane

Of Mt. Morris, Age 12 died Saturday March 20, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at Miles Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday March 24, 1999 at 11:00 Am with Pastor Charles Fred Taylor officiating. John Henry Gohsman
Of Vassar age 90 died Friday March 19, 1999 at home. Funeral services will be held at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar at 11:00 AM. With burial at Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Cryil Haines officiating. Friends may From 4pm to 9pm on Sunday March 21, 1999, and from 9am to the time of service on Monday at 11:00 AM. Mr. Gohsman was born on August 13, 1908 in Vassar, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. And Hulda (Haack) Gohsman. He worked on the family farm well past the age of 80. Surviving are: Sisters; Marion Gray and Margaret Gohsman; Nieces and Nephews: George and Lorna Gray; Glenda and Curt Fackler; James and Margo Gray; Robert Gohsman; Carol and George Miller; Pat Gohsman; Sharon and Leonard Stadler; Tery Gohsman; Michael and Cindy Gohsman. Mrs. Read was born March 5, 1915 in Wisner Twp., the daughter of Mr. and mrs. William and Pearl "Houghtaling" Braque. She and Charles Read were united in marriage October 2, 1935 in Flint. He preceded her in death December 20, 1986. Arlibee G. Lawrence

Arlibee was born October 17, 1930 in Cullman, Alabama, the son of Thomas and Ora Idella (Barnett) Lawrence. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Flint. Arlibee retired from the Buick Motor Co. in 1987 with 37 years of service. Survivors include children: Angela Boulton of Mt. Morris; Rick and wife Karen Lawrence of Durand; Cindy Lawrence of Lake City; Bruce and wife Jessie Lawrence of Mt. Kimberly A. Climie

A student of Mott Community College and attended Bettie Rae Stevens Art Studio in Flushing. Kimberley was a piano student of Ellsworth Jackson in Clio. She volunteered at the GAP youth center in Clio. Surviving are: husband; Robert L. Climie Jr.; 3 sons: Robert L. III and wife Jennifer Climie of Montrose; Sim Climie and friend Cathy Allard of Mt. William Schoonover

Of Mt. Morris, age 82, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Saturday. Mr. Schoonover was born July 1, 1916 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schoonover. A veteran of WWII serving with the US Army 1939 - 1948. He received Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, European -African -Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, WWII Silver Battle Star, 3 Overseas Service bars, 1 Service Stripe. He fought in the Invasion of Normandy Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and Battle of the Bulge. He was employed at Buick for 37 years. Surviving are: son; J. Marshall Schoonover of Huntington Beach, Ca,; daughter: Kellie Gay of Clio; son: Dennis Conway of Mt. Morris; son: Robert Conway of Saginaw; Grandchildren: Brandon Morgan, Mark Sharea, David Gay, Jason Gay, Jamie Conway, Jodi Conway, Shayne Conway, special granddaughter: Tina Sharea, 5 great grandchildren; sister: Joan and husband Morris Brady; brother: Jerry and wife Jane Schoonover; mother-in-law, Ada Smith; Preceded in death by wife Gertrude Smith Schoonover.

Age 42, Of Florida, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, March 13, 1999 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cremation has taken place. Jerry was born in Flint, March 16, 1956, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence John and Louise Ann (Chartrand) Lanphear. He and Kathy were united in marriage in 1982. He was retired from the U.S.Army. Edwin P. Sanders Sr.
Of Zephyrhills, FL. Formerly of Mt. Morris and St. Helen Age 86, died March 12 1999. Memorial service will take place at Miles Martin Funeral Home Tuesday March 23, 1999 at 11:00 AM Rev. Mr. Sanders was born June 4, 1912 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Lucy Sanders. Edwin had been a winter resident of Zephyrhills, FL area for 28 years. He married Dorothy T. Zawicky November 21, 1930. He retired from Chevrolet Flint MFG. In 1971. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign wars, Moose, Moose Legion, Eagles and the American Legion. Surviving are: 2 sons Edwin P. Jr. and wife Luella Sanders of Mt. Morrris; Thomas and wife Gail Sanders of Burton; 3 daughters: Elizabeth (Betty) and husband C. Mrs. Long was born December 9, 1918 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Parham and Verna (Kayga) Graham. She and James Long were united in marriage March 20, 1935 in North Flint Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1997. Fulfilling her lifelong dream, Mrs. Long graduated from Hurley LPN School of Nursing. Thelma O. Keyes 

Age 83, of Fairgrove. Died Wednesday March 10, 1999 at Bay Medical Center. Mrs. Keyes was born in Wisner Twp. on August 6, 1915, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin and Amy (Johnson) Ruppert. She worked for Prestolite in Bay City for 27 years. Left to cherish her memory are Son: Walter and wife Sandy Keyes of Vassar; grandchildren: Scott and Karen Keyes of Toledo, Ohio; Lori and Scott Morris of Chesapeke, Va.; Steven and Becky Keyes of Sunrise, Fla.; Great-Grandchildren : Kristen , Erin, Randi, Robyn, and Kelsey Keyes, Lindsey Flores, Lance Flores, Zack Morris and Emily Keyes; two Brothers: Wallace Ruppert of Akron; Malcomb and wife Nancy Ruppert of Akron; Sister-in-law: Marge Ruppert of Fairgrove; several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Leonard and Walter Ruppert, and sister-in-law Thelma Ruppert. She lived in Gilford many years before moving to Fairgrove to care for her aging father. Thelma's past few months were spent at Frankenmuth Care Center. She was a member of Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her many friends and was always there with a helping hand for anyone in need. Thelma enjoyed making quilts for friends and family. She made baby quilts for babies born with AIDS. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday March 13, 1999 at First Presbyerian Church in Fairgrove with Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Burial in Brookside Cenetery. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove on Friday from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM. Of Vassar Michigan age 69, died Wednesday March 10, 1999 at his residence. Gerald was born August 29, 1929 in Cedar, Michigan the son of Bernard and Lucille (Galla) Peplinski. He married Doris Ann O'Brien April 21, 1952 at St. Mary's Church in Lake Leelanau, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl. in the 711 Airborne Ordinance. Prior to his retirement in 1995 he had been employed as a Machinist for General Motors for 45 years. He had also engaged in hobby farming since 1954 and where he spent time with family and grandchildren. He is survived by: Wife Doris Ann Peplinski; 3 daughters: Diane Peplinski; Donna and husband Michael Tedford; Denise and husband Tony Amend; 6 sons: Kenneth Peplinski,; Wayne Peplinski; Douglas Peplinski; Gerald A. and wife Frances Peplinski; Kevin and wife Robin Peplinski; Mark Peplinski and Friend Anita.; 8 Grandchildren: Troy and Chad, Brandon, Abbey and Jared, Joshua and Lydia, Chandler. Brothers: Raymond and Edward Peplinski ; Sisters Winnie, Dorothy, Adaline, Marie, Lillian, Irene and Theresa. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Lucille Peplinski, Brothers Aloysius and Bernard Jr. and a Sister Beatrice who died in infancy. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 13,1999 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar, Rev. Richard T. Szafranski will officiate. Graveside Military service under the direction of Millington American Legion Post #164 will Tuscola Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar from 10:00AM - 9:00 PM Friday and from 9:00 AM- 12 noon Saturday. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday. Joanne Marie VanHorn 

Of Vassar, age 50, died Monday, March 8, 1999 at St. Marys Hospital, Saginaw. Lee and Edna Marie (Lockhart) Miller. She and Bruce VanHorn were united in marriage November 26, 1966 in Vassar. She had been employed as a production worker for Eaton Corporation. She is survived by her husband: Bruce; 3 children: Michael Lee and wife Tammy VanHorn of Clinton Twp.; Lisa Marie Beach of Bradenton, FL; Gary W. VanHorn of Vassar; 3 grandchildren, Jolyn M. Vanhorn; Justin J. Beach; Bryce T. Thelma Ruth Ruppert

Thelma was born September 1, 1918 in Fairgrove the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Carrie (Mclaren) Sylvester. She and Wallace Ruppert were united in marriage November 11, 1939 at Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included needlework, being a 4-H leader, and her family. Left to cherish her memory. Gordon A. Cornell

Of Mt. Morris died Saturday March 6, 1999 at home. Funeral service will take place 11 am Wednesday March 10, 1999 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Prince officiating. Gordon was born January 22, 1911 in Minnesota to George and Mary (Damm) Cornell. He was life long resident of Mt. Morris and served on the school board, also he was a WWII Veteran serving in the Army. Gordon retired from A&P in 1972 with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Richfield Church of the Nazarene. Survivors : wife Nora Cornell; children: Donald & wife Christy Cornell ; Kathleen & husband Daniel Cerano; William & wife Pat Priest; Daniel & wife Kathy Priest; Vernon & wife Barbara Buckley; 8 grand children; 15 great grand children; sister Mildred & husband Earl Van House. Robert J. Stoutenburg Sr.
Of North Branch, formerly of Flint and Mission, TX. age 75, died Saturday March 6, 1999 at McLaren Hospice at Kith Haven. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Wednesday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6pm Monday. Family wil be present to receive friends Monday 6-9pm and Tuesday from 1-4pm and 6-9pm. Morris March 28, 1923 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. and Mildred (Orr) Stoutenburg. He married Lillian Randall in 1943. She preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1981. Bob then married Evelyn Heck of Lapeer in 1982. For several years in their retirement they lived at Mission TX before recently moving to North Branch. Retired from Fisher Body II and was a veteran of WWII. Surviving are: wife Evelyn; son: Robert and wife Connie Stoutenburg of Clio; 2 stepchildren: Alan and wife Deborah Heck of Lapeer; Connie and husband Paul Henne of North Branch; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister: Gail and husband Harry Mathews of Gladwin; sister-in-law: Eleanor Stoutenburg of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Lillian, grandson Brian, brother James, and sister Alberta. 

Ralph W. Pollard 

Age 76, of Mt. Morris died March 5, 1999 at home. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mt. Morris, Monday, March 8, 1999 at 11:00AM, Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating with burial in New Calvary Cemetery. The family will received friends at Miles T. Martin Funeral Home, Saturday, 5-8 pm and Sunday, 12-7pm. Mr. Pollard will lie in state at the church from 10:00AM until time of service. Mr. Pollard was born March 28, 1922 in Flint, Michigan to Mr. & Mrs. William A. And Florence P. Pollard. He and Rita M. Cunningham were united in marriage on December 27, 1941. He was employed at A.C. Spark Plug, retiring in 1975 after 33 years of service. Mr. Pollard served with the 9th Air Service Squadron in the Pacific Operation during WWII. Surviving are his wife: Rita Mae; Son, Ralph W. Jr., and wife Elizabeth of Lake Wales, Florida; Daughter, Catherine and husband, Jim Burgess of Columbiaville; 2 granddaughters: Allison Bewley of Kalamazoo; Cathy, and husband Ross Hallman of Bremerton, Washington; 4 grandsons: Chad and wife Cindy Bewley of Perry, Michigan;Andrew and wife Lisa Burgess of Orange County, California; Steven and wife Angela Burgess of Hudsonville, Michigan; Erik Pollard of Lake Wales, Florida ; 5 great grandchildren: Shalie Shannon of Aurora, Colorado; Shelby and Erica Hallman of Brimerton, Washington; and Jordyn and Mitchell Burgess of Hudsonville, Michigan; 2 sisters:Florence Cooper of Flushing ; Phyllis and husband Dwaine Wylie of Birch Run; 1 brother: Earl Pollard, of Grand Blanc; Mr. Pollard was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Lyle, Kenneth and Edwin, sister, Opal Borden, and half-sister Crystal Chard. Surviving are her husband: William; Children: Brian Dondie and wife Beth Ducolon of Bay City; Cheryl Ann and husband Jeremy James of Caro; Ann Marie Ducolon of Ft. Myers, FL.; 6 grandchildren; mother: Florence Best of Vassar; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.She was preceded in death by her father Roy Levis.
