Of Flint, Age 74 died February 28, 1999 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Services will be held at Miles Martin Funeral Home at 10:00 Am Wednesday March 3, 1999. Family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Monday, 9-1 PM and 4-9PM Tuesday. He was a Loving Husband and father. He was born on July 10, 1924 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Albert and Pearl Sarah (Harrison) Orr. He and Maxine Staley were united in marriage on November 30, 1946. Congressman Dale Kildee entered Harry and Maxine into the congressional achieves. He was a member of the Local 651, Sgt. of Arms, Genesee Co. SCAN child abuse volunteer, March of Dimes, Special deputy, Member of VFW 4087 Davison, Genesee Co. Senior Winter Olympics committee, board member of Eastside Senior Citizens Center, Sam Duncan Scholarship committee, Honored at Democratic Congressional dinner 1998.Harry was also involved with many campaigns for several public officials and was a strong supporter of many political issue in the state of Michigan and Genesee County. He also devoted much of his time and energy in supporting the development of the Kearsley Daly Villa in Genesee Township. He served on the advisory board for the Kearsley High School Student Learning Center. He worked at Buick 3 years then went to AC spark plug and retired in 1980. Surviving include: Loving wife of 52 years Maxine; Son: Harry and wife Sharon Orr Jr. of Groveport, OH. 2 Brothers: Duwain Orr of Grand Blanc; Everett Orr of Flint; Sister: Wilma Eagleson of Grand Blanc; Many Nieces and Nephews; He leaves many many friends to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother George Orr in 1989. In Lieu of Flowers Contributions can be made to the Eastside Senior Center.
Mr. Briggs died Saturday February 27,1999 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas. Age 83, he was born May 18, 1915 in Vassar and had resided in the Mayville - Vassar area most of his life. He married Josephine K. Plane November 16, 1934. Prior to his retirement he had been engaged in farming and had also been a milk hauler for many years. He is survived by his wife Josephine; 1 Son and 2 Daughters: Marvin and wife Karen Briggs of National City; Bonnie and husband Stuart Thorton; Diane and husband Raymond TerBush; 14 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; 3 Brothers: Wesley Briggs of Millington; Carl Briggs of Houghtan Lake; and Robert Briggs of Flint. He was preceded in death by a Son Garry Briggs, 2 Sisters: Madeline and Ruth, and 4 Brothers: Harold , Raymond, Clark and Ron. Funeral Services will take place on 2:30 P.M Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell will officiate with burial in Tuscola Twp. Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar from 4-9 PM Monday and from 12 noon on Tuesday until time of service.
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother died Friday February 26, 1999 at her home after a lengthy illness. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Urban and Alvena Craft, she was born February 18, 1930 in Rose City and attended school there. She married O.R."Lucky" Herline September 24, 1948. She was a member of Saginaw Grace Baptist Church. The Vassar Auxiliary Aerie No. 2380 FOE and also the Thumb Area Mud Runners organization for nineteen years. Prior to her retirement in 1984 she had been employed at Fisher Body - Coldwater Plant for 30 years. Catherine love to play bingo and also bowled in two Senior leagues, winning many awards and accumulating many dear friends. She was also devoted to her sons and their spouses: Alan and Marie Herline of Hale; Edward and Renee' Herline of Genesee; Fritz and Terri Herline of Vassar, Also many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; Three Brothers: Edward and wife Dene Craft of Mt. Morris; Ronald and wife Shirley Craft of Mt. Morris; Urban and wife Doris Craft of Mancelona; Seven Sisters: Genevieve Nesbit of Lupton; Delores Shore of West Branch; Florence and Jerome Illig of Gladwin; Marlene and husband Jerry Griffor of Hemlock; Evelyn Wiles of West Branch; Barbara and husband Frank Page of Vassar; Sharon and husband Chuck Enos of Whitmore. She was preceded in death by Two brothers George and Albert and a Sister. Mr. Puppan was born Dec. 24, 1917 in Budapest Hungary, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Lajos and Juliann (Fuktel) Puppan. He and Rozalia Stork were united in marriage April 19, 1942 in Budapest, Hungary. He was retired from Fisher Body Machine Repair. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Brighton. Surviving are his wife: Rozalia; two sons: John Jr. and wife Maria Puppan of Mt. Morris; James and wife Eva Puppan of Brighton; and five grandchildren.

Age 88, of Vassar died Tuesday, February 23, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Frank was born August 30, 1910 in Lorenzgo, Italy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentino and Roma (Tremonti) Piazza. He and Marguerite Barnes were united in marriage November 1936. She preceded him in death November 14, 1988. Frank was a member of St. Francis X. Cabrini Catholic Church of Vassar. He was a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus Vassar/Millington Fr. Robert E. Smith Council 7591 and also a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity 2013 of Caro, 4th Degree. Also a member of Vassar F.O.E. #2380. Frank retired from General Electric in 1975 as a welder in the heat treatment dept. He enjoyed photography, reading, collecting books, and gardening. Left to cherish his memory are 4 children, Ramon and wife Ruth Piazza of Kalamazoo, Anita Haile of Portland, Oregon, Gary and wife Joyce Piazza of Cincinnati, OH and Duane and wife Sandy Piazza of Hamilton, OH; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Ferrer and wife Lula Pizza of Vassar; sister, Claudia and husband Eber Barnes of Vassar; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Member of UAW Local 598 and retired from Truck and Bus March 1985 as an inspector with 30 years service. Shenkel were united in marriage on June 7, 1923, he preceded her in death October 12, 1970. She attended and graduated from Baker Business College and had been employed as a stenographer. Mrs. Shenkel was a member of Mt. Morris First Baptist Church were she served as a deaconess. She joined at age 11 and been a member for 85 years. She served her church 24 years as the dining room chairperson, she taught girls Bible class, and she and her sister were in charge of the nursery for many years. Surviving are her daughter: Mabel and husband Willard Pinney of Mt. Morris; Son-in-law: Kenneth and wife Eleanor Morey of Mt. Morris; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren; sister: Sabra Culver of Clio; Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son John 1987, daughter Florence Morey April 15, 1974, 2 brothers; Russell and Howard, 3 sisters: Mary Ella Draper, Louise Wager, and Nellie Rogers.

Martha was born May 19, 1935 in Clio Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Ila (Hankey) McQueen . She was a devoted mother and care giver. She also enjoyed traveling and camping. Martha is survived by a four children: Merle Castle of CA; Debra Higgins of Flint; David Castle of Mt. Morris; Paul and Judy Castle of Flint; Candice Clark of Flint; several grand children and great grand children. She was preceded in by Randall Castle and Jerome Reed.

Age 93, Of Mt. Morris passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 1 999 at her home. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM Friday, February 5, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery the family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home 6-9 PM Wednesday, 9-9 Thursday and at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of Holy Mass at 11:00 AM. Parish and family will gather at the funeral home at 7:00 PM Thursday to pray the Rosary. Mary was born May 12, 1905. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Elizabeth (Wolohan) Vermette, both long time residents of Mt. Morris where Joseph was a blacksmith and Elizabeth was a teacher. Mary lost her father to pneumonia at the age of two. She went to Mt. Morris schools until her senior year when she traveled to St. Michael's in Flint. Mary attended the County Normal College in Flint and Ypsilanti to get her teaching certificate. On August 22, 1928, Mary married John P. Mullally at St. Mary's. Mary taught school until the first child of ten arrived. After moving to the farm in 1941 from 580 Walker St., she was a secretary in the insurance business until John's retirement. Mary was nurtured in her final years by her two daughters, Sister Ellen and Sister Agnes Mullally , both of the Order of St. Joseph Sisters. They were aided in this task by Sister Marcella Deneau and Sister Ann Catherine Steffes. Mary was very active in church affairs at St. Mary's for many years. She belonged to several guilds, the Legion of Mary, the Charismatic Prayer Group, and the Altar Society. She was a tireless worker and was a source of cordiality and support to all. She considered everyone as part of her extended family. She made herself dearly loved for her charitable work and kindly ways. She was always a great friend to her neighbors in times of distress and the memory of her kind deeds will live long with many people. Socially, Mary was of a genial disposition, and made friends of all. Surviving are: daughters: Mary and husband Richard Poletti, Alice and husband John Manning, Sister Ellen Mullally S.S.J, and Sister Agnes Mullally S.S.J. Sons: Michael and wife Mary Ellen, Joseph and wife Sharon, and Thomas and wife Carol. There are 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John, and three children: Kathleen, James and John.
