EVELYN BROSCO
Evelyn M. Brosco of Traverse City formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at Munson Memorial Medical Center
in Traverse City, Mich. She was born January 17, 1907 in Sault Ste. Marie,
Michigan.
Mrs. Brosco was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City. She lived her entire life
in Sault Ste. Marie, moving to Traverse City six years ago to live with
her daughter, Adele Murphy.
She is survived by four sons, William Brosco of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.,
James Brosco of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Walter Brosco of Sault Ste. Marie,
Mich., and Donald Brosco of Rapid River, Mich.; three daughters, Adele
Murphy of Traverse City, Mich., Regina Brosco of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Eva
Brosco of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one sister, Helen Doherty of Springfield, Mo.;
19 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Brosco on August 16,
1965; son, John Brosco; daughter, Rita Frederick; grandson, Patrick Murphy;
brothers, Joseph, Fred and Russell Porter; sisters, Stella Mooney, Hart
Routhier, Adelaide Hillman, Bernice Badger; sister, St. Aiden; and parents,
Robert and Margaret (Breasseau) Porter.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 22 from 10 until time of
services at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Ted Brodeur
officiating. Final resting place will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.

HOWARD McKELVIE
Howard D. McKelvie, 52, of Sugar Island, Michigan passed away Tuesday,
February 20, 2001 while away on a fishing trip.
Howard was born in Escanaba, Michigan on November 27, 1948. He was
a lifetime resident of Sugar Island and a Bay Mills Tribal member.
Howard enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoors person.
He is survived by his wife, Linda McKelvie; three children, Connie
l. DePlonty, Howard E. McKelvie and David C. McKelvie all of Sault Ste.
Marie, Mich.; two brothers, Dennis McKelvie and Steve McKelvie, both of
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; and mother, Mildred McKelvie also of Sault Ste.
Marie, Mich.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 23 from 2 until 4 p.m. and
from 6 until 9 p.m. and Saturday, February 24, 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

HARVEY PEFFERS
Harvey J. Peffers, age 83, a former resident of Pickford, Michigan,
passed away at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Tendercare in
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Harvey was born in Pickford Township on April 1, 1918 and spent most
of his life in the Pickford area as a farmer. He enjoyed horses, hunting
and fishing.
He is survived by two sons, Oscar Peffers of Cadillac, Michigan and
Doyle (Kathy) Peffers of Thousand Palms, California; four daughters, Terry
Huffman of Kinross, Michigan, Merry (Jerome) Barrette of Dafter, Michigan,
Nancy Hartman of Desert Springs, California and Linda Peffers of MaComb,
Michigan; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers,
Ernie (June) Peffers of Pickford, Michigan, Albert (Marj) Peffers of Las
Vegas, Nevada and Floyd (Gerry) Peffers of Dafter, Michigan; four sisters,
Opal Gagnon of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Freda Richard of Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida, Ervadine Ellis of Pontiac, Michigan and Emily (Lou) Pinto of Boyton
Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Reamer
Funeral Home in Pickford, Michigan with Rev. Lynn Chappell officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 noon until time of services.
Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,

Julia M. Merkeil, 74, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away Friday,
March 30, 2001 at War Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 16, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan and was a member
of St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Church.
She is survived by cousins, Floyd Wilson of Goetzville, Michigan and
Donald Wilson of Boyne Falls, Michigan. She was predeceased by her parents,
Casmier and Martha (Petroski) Merkeil.

Louis J. "Jim" Montero, 70, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan died Tuesday,
August 7, 2001 at War Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with
cancer.
Jim was born October 26, 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie and married Patricia
Petkus November 29, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois. A life long area resident
and former businessman owner of Montero Excavation, Inc., he was an avid
pool player, reader and Ham Radio operator: WA8UFK. Jim enjoyed spending
time with his family and grandchildren. He and his loving wife, Patricia
spent winters in Springhill, Florida and traveling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia (Petkus) Montero;
children, Carla (Joseph) Behling of Sault Ste. Marie, Michael (Debbie)
of Levering, Carol (Brad) Elm of Boyne City, Anne Christine (Bill) Yeack
of Norway, Mich. and Anthony (Gloria) of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; and grandchildren,
Michael and Paul Bertram, David Montero, Staci Brown, Bradford Elm, Jennifer
and Sarah Yeack, and Anthony, Araya and Mary Montero. His siblings, Patricia
Kortman of Rogers City, Jeannine Salves of St. Paul, Minn., Anthony F.
Montero of Sault Ste. Marie, Bernard Montero and Eileen Gogolakis both
of St. Paul, Minn., Jaunita Goodermouth of Oshkosh, Wisc. and Sharon Dailey

Jim was a member of St. Joseph's parish and Christopher Columbus Men's

LAWRENCE LANNOO
Lawrence R. "Louie" Lannoo, 50, of St. Ignace died unexpectedly Tuesday
at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was born December 17, 1950
in Gros Cap. His parents are Lawrence " and Marie (Boyea) Lannoo.
He has worked for Kewadin Shores Casino for the past eight years, mostly
as Maintenance Supervisor.
He married Mary Visnaw of Mackinac Island on June 23, 1972 in St. Ignace
and she survives. Also two sons, Lawrence R. and Laura Lannoo, and Jamie
R. Lannoo, all of St. Ignace; his mother, Marie Lannoo of St. Ignace; brothers,
Keith and Mary Lannoo of Kalkaska, Kenneth and Ruby Lannoo of New Haven,
Fred Lannoo of Rochester, and Rodney Lannoo of St. Ignace; three sisters,
Della and Tom Nay, Shirley Wood and Beverly Trudo all of St. Ignace; four
granddaughters, Shannon, Taylor and Madysin Causley, and Allison Lannoo.
His father, Lawrence "Manny" died in 1980; also sisters, Janet Hart
in 1992 and Barbara Bordeau in January, 2001.

Mary Leach of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Tuesday, August
7, 2001 at War Memorial Hospital. She was born October 22, 1929 in Ringgold,
Louisiana.
She is survived by a sister, Gladys (Gil) Moniz of Barbeau, Mich.
She was predeceased by son, John Leach, Jr.; two brothers, B.G. McCrory
and Melvin McCrory; sister, Johnnie Mae McCrory; and parents, Jesse James
and Viola (Davis) McCrory.

GERALD MALEPORT
Gerald James Maleport, 66, a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie,
Michigan passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2001 at Marquette General
Hospital.
Mr. Maleport was born in Sault Ste. Marie on July 19, 1935, the son
of the late John and Bernice (Payment) Maleport. He worked as a brick mason,
building many buildings and homes in the Sault Ste. Marie area. He enjoyed
working and collecting antique cars. He loved his grandchildren greatly.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. (Hunter) Maleport; three sons,
Gary (Carol) Maleport, John Maleport, and Steve (Loretta) Maleport all
of Sault Ste. Marie; three daughters, Karen Bilitz of Beaver Dam, Wisc.,
Joanie (John) Grove of Sault Ste. Marie, and Diana Noble of Marquette;
and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Frances Maleport
of Texas; and three sisters, Shirley Fabry of Sault Ste. Marie, Joanie
Williams and Norma Young both of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and
Melvin Maleport; and two sisters, Millie Jones and Audrey Mansfield.

LEONARD HILLOCK
Leonard O. Hillock died in his Bruce Township home on November 7, 2001.
Mr. Hillock was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on March 7, 1930.
Mr. Hillock was a life member of the V.F.W. and the Dafter Presbyterian
Church, he is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, William (Renee) Hillock
of Dafter, and James (Kim) Hillock of Lansing; and two daughters, Barbara
Hillock of Dafter, and Patricia (David) Greenski of Sault Ste. Marie. Also
surviving are his two sisters, Verna (Fred) Norton and Erva (Roy) Atkinson
who are both of Sault Ste. Marie. Leonard Hillock has six grandchildren,
Lynn, Brian, and Katie Greenski, and Christopher, Micheal, and Troy Hillock.
Visitation will be held at Hovie Funeral Home on Friday, November 9,
from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. with the V.F.W. holding services
for Mr. Hillock at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday,

ALMA GOETZ
Alma Marie Goetz of Minneapolis St., Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed
away Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at Tendercare Nursing Home. She was born
November 30, 1916 in Raber Township.
Mrs. Goetz attended college for a year at Michigan Normal, which is
now Eastern Michigan University. She taught school on Lime Island and also
at Raber and Gardenville. She worked for Community Action and worked for
years for the Bureau of Social Aid, which is now Family Independence Agency.
She was a member of St. Mary's ProCathedral Church and of Bridge Club International.
She was a great bridge player.
She is survived by a son, John Hardy (Diane) Goetz of Troy; a brother,
Jay Fehner of Raber; and a sister, Mae (Harry) Larson of Walnut Creek,
Calif. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kara Elizabeth Goetz of Ferndale
and John Erich Goetz of Ferndale.
Mrs. Goetz was predeceased by her husband, Walter Goetz in 1977; and
parents, John Christian and Anna (Bouncher) Goetz.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 9 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Clark

RONALD AUGUSTSON
Ronald Augustson was born August 1, 1939 and passed away on May 3,
2000 in Cookville, Tenn. while visiting his mother and sons family.
Ronald (Augie), was born and raised in the Rudyard area until his family
moved to Detroit. He served in the military and after leaving, married
Judy Mattson from Munising. He recently retired from the State of Michigan
prison system in Ionia. He and Judy lived in Saranac.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; two children, a daughter Theresa, and
a son Eric; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Marian;
and a brother, Larry and family. He leaves many cousins in the Rudyard
area.
His father Heino, died several years ago.
Graveside services and cremation interment will be in the North Rudyard
Cemetery on Saturday, August 12 at 3 p.m.
DONNA BOSLEY
Donna J. Bosley, 65, of 93 E. Sands, Gwinn, died Monday morning at
Marquette General Hospital.
Mrs. Bosley was born on March 19, 1935 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.,
a daughter of the late Miles and Thelma (Hill) Rath. On October 5, 1957
she married Carl Bosley in Sault Ste. Marie.
Donna was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marquette.
She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, crafting greeting cards and writing
poetry.
Mrs. Bosley is survived by her husband, Carl of Gwinn; a daughter,
Deborah (Richard) Neff of Milwaukee; a son, Timothy (Eileen) Bosley of
Saginaw; a granddaughter, Tanya Langoyis; a brother, Richard (Ollie) Rath
of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Two
sisters, Joanne and Gloria preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Marquette on Friday at 12 noon with the Rev. Andrew Martens officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the
service. Interment will be held in Forsyth Township Cemetery.

ELIZABETH MADIGAN
Elizabeth May (Bette) Madigan of Matlacha, Florida and Sault Ste. Marie,
Michigan, born December 23, 1921 in Sault Ste. Marie, died on October 25,
2001.
Bette is survived by Hugh H. Madigan, her beloved husband of 60 years,
having celebrated their anniversary on October 4, 2001.
She was a partner in Madigan Insurance Agency until Hugh retired in
1983. Although she was not active in the agency, she gave inspiration and
helped behind the scenes.
Bette touched many lives with her special smile and unique way of making
people feel at home. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother,
friend and faithful Christian. Bette was also a member of the "Matlacha
Mermaids" for over 20 years. Her favorite pastime was spending every Tuesday,
shelling on Sanibel Beach. She will be greatly missed by all her friends.
Bette also leaves three sons, Douglas (Connie) of Huntsville, Alabama,
Stephen (Susan) of Cedarville, and James of Ft. Myers Beach; one daughter,
Cathy (Greg) Eagle of North Ft. Myers, Florida; one brother, Otto (Dorothy)
Quack, Jr.; and 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Viola Quack; a brother,
Richard Quack; and one son, Francis John Madigan.
There will be a Mass and reception December 23, 2001 at Our Lady of
the Miraculous Medal in Pine Island, Florida as a celebration of life.
This day would have been Bette's 80th birthday.
There will also be a celebration in Sault Ste. Marie in June or July
of 2002 at St. Joseph's Church.

James Derrick McCoy of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Friday,
February 1, 2002 in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born April 22, 1972 in Portsmouth,
Va.

his grandmother and numerous aunts and uncles.
Services will be held in the spring. Final resting place will be in
Wilwalk Cemetery on Sugar Island.

CATHERINE HULL
Catherine (Plummer) Hull, formerly of Ligonier, Indiana, passed away
February 1, 2002 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
at the age of 91. Mrs. Hull was born in Columbia City, Indiana on August
24, 1910. She married Milton James (Jim) Hull on August 15, 1937 and he
preceded her in death in June 1997.
Mrs. Hull is survived by a son, M. Thomas (Carolyn) Hull of Ligonier,
Ind. and a daughter, Virginia (Gilbert) Cymbalist of Sault Ste. Marie.
She is also survived by five grandsons, Brian (Jamie) Hull of Syracuse,
Ind., John (Kaye) Hull of Ligonier, Ind., Mark (Reese) Hull of Pinckney,
Andrew (Lisa) Cymbalist of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Benjamin (Katrina)
Cymbalist of Kincheloe; and by five great-grandchildren, Kelsea, Kristin
and Morgan Hull, and Daylen and Miriam Cymbalist.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents,
Ira and Mae Plummer; an infant son in 1939; and a great-granddaughter,
Mara Elizabeth Cymbalist in 2001.
Funeral services and interment at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, Ind.

LEROY EAGLE
Leroy Edward Eagle, 72, of Fowlerville, Michigan, died Friday, January
11, 2002 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was born
on September 20, 1929 in Royal Oak, Michigan. The son of Earl Eagle and
Lavata Ogden Eagle. He married Pearl Black in Pickford, Michigan on March
19, 1960. She survives.
Mr. Eagle was a truck driver for many years, working for Royal Lester
Trucking and Detroit Concrete Products. He also worked on the Great Lake
Freighters when he was younger. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army
and was discharged on Jan. 26, 1955.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Vivian Thomas of
Farmington Hills, and Leann (Patrick) Yeary of Fowlerville; three grandchildren,
Anthony Yeary, 18, Robert Thomas, 15, and Lindsay Yeary, 11. Brother, Larry
of Rapid River; sister, Beatrice Williams of Minn.; and many nieces and
nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Raifsnider in 1984;
and a brother, Dave Eagle in 1997.
He will truly be missed by all that loved him.
