Ruth J. Hodges
Saturday, April17, 1999 -- (NORTHAMPTON) - Ruth (Jarvis) Hodges, 89, of 23 Fort Hill Terrace, died April 15 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born Oct. 14, 1909, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Selma (Keller) Jarvis.
She attended the former Northampton Commercial College, and worked until 1975 as a medical secretary at Northampton Surgical Associates. She was a communicant of the Christ United Methodist Church in Northampton.
Her husband, Willard F. Hodges, died in 1967. Two of her sons, Richard W. and Jarvis C., died in 1995 and 1996 respectively.
She leaves a son, Ronald F. Hodges of Florence; a sister, Joyce E. Dehey of Westborough; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Beth Ann Kozera
Saturday, April17, 1999 --  (HATFIELD) - Beth Ann Kozera, 34, formerly of 44 King St., died April 15 at the Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield.
She leaves her father, James Kozera, and mother, Nancy (Baceski) Kozera; a brother, Jeffrey Kozera; and a sister, Holly Calson.

Marie L'Heureux
Saturday, April17, 1999 -- (NORTHAMPTON) - Marie (Twarog) L'Heureux, 53, of Florence Road, died April 15 at home after a 14-year battle with breast cancer.
Born April 12, 1946, in Holyoke, she was the daughter of Mildred (Pacosa) and the late William Twarog.
She graduated from Northampton Commercial College, and had lived in Northampton since 1971. She had worked as an administrative assistant in the graduate office at Smith College since 1981.
Mrs. L'Heureux was president of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, chaired various committees for The Cooley Dickinson Hospital Follies Campaign, co-chaired the American Cancer Society of Hampshire County's Daffodil Day, and was active in the cancer society's door- to-door campaign.
Besides her mother, she leaves her husband Gerard L'Heureux of Northampton; two daughters, Nicole L'Heureux of Newton, and Danielle L'Heureux, of Providence, R.I; two brothers, Dr. Francis Twarog of Weston, and Jay Twarog of Northampton; and nephews and nieces.
Another brother, William died in 1988.

Friday, April16, 1999 -- (MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md.) - Doreen (Murphy) Brennan, 80, of Montgomery Village, formerly of Northampton, died April 14 at home.
Mrs. Brennan had worked in the office of the former Northampton Gas and Light Co.
Her husband, William C. Brennan Sr., died in 1996.
She leaves a son, William C. Brennan Jr. of Crofton, Md.; two daughters, Kathleen B. Baines of Chevy Chase, Md., and Anne M. Brennan of Alexandria, Va.; two sisters; Mary Dyer of Northampton, and Kathleen Berry of Easthampton; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friday, April16, 1999 -- (SOUTHAMPTON) - Robert J. Delnero, 62, of Southampton, died April 14 in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Mr. Delnero was a furniture designer and maker with the Delnero Furniture Co. in Southampton.

Shane and Marie Dowland
Friday, April 16, 1999 -- (EASTHAMPTON) - Shane M. Dowland, 28, and his wife, Marie R. (Beckwith) Dowland, 26, of Hendrick Street, died April 15 of injuries they sustained in an automobile accident that morning in Easthampton.
They were married Aug. 22, 1998.
Shane M. Dowland worked in the shipping and receiving department at Bearings Specialty in West Springfield.
He leaves his parents, Jean and Caroline (Dowland) Read of Easthampton; his grandparents, Charles Read of Easthampton, and Phyllis Dowland of Cocoa, Fla.; a sister, Shauneen cq Phaneuf of Easthampton; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marie R. Dowland worked as a machine operator at Riverside Industries in Easthampton.
She leaves her mother, Lorraine (Gagne) Beckwith of Becket; her grandmother, Rita Dragon of Pittsfield; four brothers, Danny Beckwith of Blandford, Robert Beckwith of Becket, and David Beckwith and John Beckwith, both of Westfield; a sister, Susan Dowland of Westfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and cousins.

Friday, April16, 1999 -- (NORTHAMPTON) - Helen C. Nolan, 86, of 81 Conz St., died April 14 at The Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Mrs. Nolan had worked as an assembler for the Pro Brush division of the Vistron Corp. of Florence, retiring in 1976.
Her husband, James W. Nolan, died in 1976.
She leaves a son, James T. Nolan of Northampton; three daughters, Patricia M. Slattery of Wilmington, Conn., Nancy A. Driscoll of Florence, and Margaret E. Howard Wentworth
Friday, April16, 1999 -- (SOUTH DEERFIELD)- Howard E. Wentworth, 85, of 53 S. Mill River Road, died April 14 in the Cozy Corner Nursing Home in Sunderland.
Mr. Wentworth had been a self-employed farmer for many years, retiring in 1985.
His wife, Velma (McDowell) Wentworth, died in 1987.
He leaves two sons, George E. Wentworth of South Deerfield, and Arthur A. Wentworth of Belchertown; a daughter, Carol A. Tuesday, April13, 1999 --  (HADLYME, Conn.) - Gordon W. Dyer, 80, of Hadlyme, formerly of Northampton, died Jan. 10 at home.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Monday, April12, 1999 -- (CHICOPEE) - John H. Banner, 61, of Chicopee, formerly of Hampshire County, died April 10 at home.
Mr. Banner had worked at Hampden Specialty and at Norwood Dairy, both in Easthampton and had been a senior bacteriologist for the Massachusetts Food and Drug Department from 1962 until his retirement in 1992. Since then he had been self-employed as a woodcraftsman under the name of Banner Enterprizes.
He leaves his wife of 41 years Joyce (Cayen) Banner, four sons, John Banner of Kansas, James Banner of Northampton, Howard Banner of Springfield, and Christopher Banner of Hatfield; two daughters, Nancy Williams of Orange, and Pamela Maynard of Chicopee; and 11 grandchildren.

Monday, April12, 1999 -- (HATFIELD) - William Betsold, 79, of 8 Circle Drive, died April 11 in The Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
Mr. Betsold had worked as a firefighter at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds for 30 years, retiring several years ago.

Marlene L. Houle Waterman
Monday, April12, 1999 -- (SOUTH HADLEY) - Marlene L. (Rival) Houle Waterman, 61, of 2 Scott Hollow Drive, died April 10 in Holyoke Hospital.
A licensed practical nurse, she had worked at the Holyoke Hospital, and at the former Ludlow Hospital. She previously had been a building director at the former Belchertown State School.
Her first husband, Joseph Houle, died in 1988.
She leaves her husband, Richard Waterman; five sons, Raymond G. Houle of Agawam, Mark W. Houle and David A. Houle both of Chicopee, Christopher J. Houle of Holyoke, and John R. Kenneth T. Kirtland
Monday, April12, 1999 -- (NORTHAMPTON) - Kenneth T. Kirtland, 83, of 96 Florence Road, died April 11 in The Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II, training B-24 pilots in instrument flight and assisting in the formation of the All Weather Flight Training Program.
Mr. Kirtland had been a manager for the former Ruby Furniture Store in Northampton, and a supervisor for Ruby's in Easthampton and in Brattleboro, Vt. He had also been the store manager for the former Hadley Furniture Store, and retired as general manager for the former Calduwood Co. in Florence.
His first wife, Doris M. (Duffy) Kirtland, died in 1987.
He leaves his wife, Mayon (Sullivan) Kirtland; his family; Rita Cahillane, Arlene Herox, Sara Kaseck, Susan Bruso, Lorraine Delaney, Sharon Lashway and Timothy Bruso; a sister, Helen M. Daley; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lizek had worked for many years as a cook at Smith College and at the Clarke School for the Deaf, both in Northampton.
Her husband, Peter J. Lizek, died in 1977.

William J. LaFleur
Saturday, April10, 1999 --  (MARCO ISLAND, Fla.) - William J. LaFleur, 76, of Marco Island, formerly of Northampton, died March 5 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
Mr. LaFleur practiced law in Philadelphia, Pa., and was a member of the Philadelphia Crime Commission. He was a former member of the FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation. He retired as vice president of Merrill Lynch in New York in 1983.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth J. LaFleur; a son, William J. LaFleur III of Red Bank, N.J.; a brother, Richard R. LaFleur of North Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. 

Elaine R. Connaughton McAuley
Saturday, April10, 1999 --  (NORTHAMPTON) - Elaine R. (Annis) Connaughton McAuley, 84, formerly of Riverside Drive in Florence, died April 7 at SunRise Care and Rehabilitation for Northampton.
She had worked as a sales clerk at the former S & H Green Stamp Catalogue Store in Agawam.
Her first husband, Freeman Connaughton, died in 1964, and her second husband, Firth McAuley, died in 1993.
She leaves a son, Gary F. Connaughton of Granby; a daughter, Faye R. O'Malley of Westfield; a stepdaughter, Jacqueline Rose of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother, Leonard P. Annis of Southampton; and four grandchildren.

Theresa M. Tetreault
Saturday, April10, 1999 -- (EAST LONGMEADOW) - Theresa M. (Bridges) Tetreault, 66, died April 9 at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Born in Northampton Jan. 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Thelma (Miner) Bridges.
She grew up in Pelham and lived in Amherst before moving to East Longmeadow in 1963. She worked for the East Longmeadow school system for 25 years until retiring in 1963.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Andre R. Tetreault; a son, Marc J. Tetreault of Harwich; a daughter, Carol L. Lorenzi of Somers, Conn.; a brother, Les Bridges of Montague; a sister, Shirley Lauder of Amherst; and two grandchildren.

Friday, April9, 1999 -- (WHATELY) - Nathalie Ann (Kulesa) Hancock, 77, of 56 Long Plain Road, died April 8 in The Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
Mrs. Hancock had been the operator of the former Slenders Salon for many years, and then had worked for the nursing service at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds.
Her husband, Lester H. Hancock, died in 1968.

Friday, April9, 1999 -- (SOUTH HADLEY) - William A. Peetz, 85, of 3 Lyman St., died April 8 in Holyoke Hospital.
Mr. Peetz had worked as a mechanic for Dennison National of Holyoke. He had previously worked for the former Livingston Worsted Mills of Holyoke.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Frances (Travis) Peetz; a daughter, Audrey D. Spice of Granby; a brother, Edward Peetz of Florida; two sisters, Evelyn Lenz of Connecticut, and Dorothy Lempke of Granby; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Monday, September 20, 1999 --  (AMHERST) - Raymond J. Cote, 73, of Flat Hills Road, died Sept. 19 in The Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines and in Japan.
Mr. Cote had worked as a machine operator at the former Pro Brush division of the Vistron Corp. in Florence, retiring in 1992. He had previously worked at the Springfield Armory.
He leaves his wife of 41 years, Gertrude (Comings) Cote; two sons, Russell E. Cote of Ware, and Brian Cote of South Berwick, Maine; a stepson, Robert F. Comings of Amherst; two brothers, Joseph Cote, and Francis Cote, both of Easthampton; three sisters, Mary Gertrude DeLisle, and Marjorie Gosselin, both of Northampton, and Blanche LaValley of Easthampton; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson. Mr. Korza was the second-generation owner of Fab's Electric in Easthampton for 15 years, and had previously worked as a mason for LaValley Construction in Easthampton.

Tuesday, September 21, 1999 --  (SOUTH DEERFIELD) - Lena (Wojcik) Nartowicz, 96, of 2 Porter St., died Sept. 20 at home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Nartowicz was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Northampton State Hospital before retiring.
Her husband of 46 years, Roman V. Nartowicz, died in 1971.
She leaves four sons, George Nartowicz with whom she lived, and Thomas Nartowicz, both of South Deerfield, Charles Nartowicz of Colrain, and Robert Nartowicz of California; two daughters, Patricia Thompson of East Deerfield, and Eleanor Thorpe of South Deerfield; a sister, Bertha Sakowicz of Westfield; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
