Philip Burdett Sullivan MD

Dr. Philip Burdett Sullivan 86 of Groveland, died Tuesday Evening at the Oxford Manor.
He was Born in Lawrence, son of the late John and Laura (Burdett) Sullivan, attended St. James High School, was a Graduate of Holy Cross class of l937, McGill Medical School, Class of l941, and served is Internship at Montreal General Hospital received is Diplomate National Board Of Medical Examiners in l942, and served his residency at Royal Victoria Maternity Hospital.
He joined the United States Navy I Nov. of 1942, and served as a Lt Commander, he later was a member of the United States Naval Reserve. 
Dr. Sullivan learned Anesthesiology at the Lahey Clinic and served as Chief of Anesthesiology at the San Diego Naval Hospital. From l944-l946, he was a resident at the Boston Lying In Hospital a Resident Pathologist at Eastern Maine General Hospital from l947-l948, was Assistant Resident Surgeon at Boston City Hospital for OBGyn from l948-l949, and had been in private practice since l949. Dr Sullivan was the former Head of Obstetrics at the Hale Hospital.
Dr. Sullivan was a Fellow Massachusetts Medical Society, Fellow American Society of Anesthesiologist, a Founding Fellow with American Society of Obstetricians, and Gynecologist, a Member of the North East Obstetrical and Gynocloeocial Society, Member of the Association of Military Surgeons, the American Medial Association, the Pan American Cancer Cytology Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Fellow American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, Member of the Lahey Clinic Alumni Assoc.
He is survived by his wife of 54 Years Frances W. (White) Sullivan of Groveland, three sons: Alan Sullivan of Virginia, Mark Sullivan of Philadelphia, Eugene Sullivan of West Hartford, CT. 7 Grandchildren.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to the Funeral Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the H. L. FARMER & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 106 SUMMER ST. HAVERHILL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John The Baptist Church.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home will be Saturday afternoon from 2-5.
Burial in the Riverview Cemetery, will be private at the convenience of the family.

Successfully ran Johnson Marker Company in Haverhill for 47 years. first company to stitch Nike footwear in the US. Known as the "Nike man" during the 70's when he sold Nike shoes to many people in Haverhill
Local baseball player (pitcher) in Haverhill area semi pro leagues including the Bradford Cubs and Hamel Leather teams. Played also with the Gedimenos, St. Joseph's Club, and Danvers A.A. Worked out one season with the Boston Red Sox?Drafted by the Philadelphia Athletics farm team, the Greenville Mississippi Bucks, of the Cotton States League in 1938 and was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers major league franchise in 1941 
US Army veteran of World War II. Honorably discharged August 1943
Organized the Bradford Community Club Founder of the Bradford Swim Club in the mid 1960's, was a member of the Board of Directors and was given a lifetime membership He took great pride in the fact that all five of his children were public school teachers, three in the Haverhill Public Schools

Dorothy M. Vincent
March 25, 2002
Dorothy M. Vincent, 81, of Haverhill, died Monday at Kenoza Manor Nursing home in Haverhill.
She was the daughter of the late Marion (Morrow) Vincent and Walter Vincent.
Born in Haverhill Dec. 26, 1920, she graduated from Haverhill High School in 1938, and MacIntosh Business College. She served in the Navy Waves in World War II as a yeoman first class.
She was executive secretary for the president of Massachusetts Electric for 36 years.
Miss Vincent was an avid collector of porcelain dolls, many of which she created.
She also leaves loving and dedicated sisters Mrs. Barbara J. (Vincent) Vandergriff of California and Estelle (Vincent) Pappafilis and her husband Tom of Haverhill; and two nephews. 
Funeral was held Thursday at the H  L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 So. Main St. Bradford. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

Sheila Jean (Elder) Korzep
March 25, 2002
Cellist Sheila Jean (Elder) Korzep died of cancer March 25, 2002, in her home in Haverhill, MA. Her life was grounded by her faith in God, as she sought to have all she said and did bring praise to God her Maker.
Sheila was born on March 18, 1958, in Takoma Park, MD, and grew up in Annapolis. At age 13 she became the youngest player to join the Annapolis Symphony.
Sheila married Daniel Korzep on January 13, 1979, and received her BA in cello performance the same year. Even as Sheila supported her husband's ministry, she continued her music career. She taught music for three years at Walden Montessori School in Upper Darby, PA, and taught private lessons in strings and piano for twenty years.
She was principal cellist in the Minot ND, Symphony Orchestra and played in the Hastings NB, Community Symphony. Sheila's experience as a Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader led her to speak at women's conferences and to publish articles in The Banner of Truth. Her life was a joyous testimony of her faith in God expressed both in word and song.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Rev. Daniel Korzep of Haverhill, MA, her parents, Dr. Samuel and Sylvia (Maynard) Elder of Annapolis, MD, 4 sisters, Mrs. Susan Erikson of Escondido, CA and Sarah Elder and Louise Chestnut both of Annapolis and Sharon Thayer of Sutton, MA.
Memorial Service was held Thursday at the West Congregational Church, Haverhill.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday at the Evangelical Presbyterian Cemetery, Annapolis, MD.

Dorothy S. (Small) Garfield

Mrs. Dorothy S. (Small) Garfield, 82 of Amesbury Rd. Haverhill, died March 16 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
She was born in Truro, MA. June 25, 1919, daughter of the late E. Hayes and Katherine M. (Parker) Small.
Educated in the Truro Public Schools she also attended Boston schools while her father served in the Legislature, and was a Graduate of Burdette College in Boston.
After marrying in l939, she and her husband, the late Richard Garfield, resided in Boston, and later relocated to the Salem area.
While in Salem she was employed as a Credit Manager at Pickering Oil Company. She and her husband were also active at the Palmer Cove Yacht Club.
In l972 she moved to Del Ray Beach Florida , where she was an avid Scrabble Player and Golfer. She returned to Groveland in l997 and in recent years has resided at Haverhill Crossings.
Her survivors include two sons, James E. and his wife Pam Garfield of Beverly, Leonard H. and his wife Mary Garfield of Del Ray Beach, Fl. Two daughters, Jeanette and her husband Bruce McLaughlin of Salem, MA, Dixie and her husband Thaddeus "Ted" Kulik of Groveland, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Memorial Service Saturday April 20 at 11 a.m. in the Groveland Congregational Church.

Koula “Vassilike” (Davaras) Valhouli

Mrs. Koula “Vassilike” (Davaras) Valhouli, 95, of Bradford, died late Friday night, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
She was born in Tyrnavos, Greece on April 15, 1907, daughter of the late Zeses and Maria (Agorogianis) Davaras.
Mrs. Valhouli was educated in Greece and had moved to Haverhill from Greece in July of 1951 with her 5 sons. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul, and a former member of the churches ELPIS and Philoptochos societies.
She was the wife of the late Nicholas Valhouli who died in 1942, and was the mother of the late James and Peter Valhouli.
Her survivors include 3 sons John N. Valhouli and his wife Georgia of Groveland, Michael N. Valhouli of Haverhill, and Archimedes N. Valhouli of Haverhill, 2 nieces Rena Bizios of NY and Georgia Bizios of NC, a brother, Marinos Davaras of Greece, 2 sisters, Helen Davaras and Eunice Davaras both of Greece, 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home will be Sunday from 4-7 pm.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Monday morning 10:00 from the Bradford Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11:00 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

Clayton B. Taylor
August 2, 2002 
Mr. Clayton B. Taylor, 77, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Friday, August 2, at the Merrimack valley Hospital in Haverhill.
He was born in Haverhill and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. Mr. Taylor was a Navy veteran of WWII and was a member of the Haverhill AMVETS Post 147. He was employed by the City of Haverhill for many years as Head Clerk at the Water Dept.
He was the husband of the late Lucille A. (Panneton) Taylor who died September 6, 1984.
His survivors include daughters, Cynthia L. and her husband Bruce M. Warnke of Haverhill, Lisa M. and her husband Jay Tuccolo of Haverhill, and Judith Guerra of Bradford, a son William R. Taylor of Lowell, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Monday morning, at 11:00 at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday evening from 5-8 pm.

Steve Anastos
July 26, 2002 
Mr. Steve Anastos, 70, formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, July 26th, in Richmond, CA.
He was born in Haverhill and educated in the Haverhill School System.
Until his retirement in 1982 he was employed for the NASA Aeronautics Space Program in California and Texas.
While in California, Mr. Anastos owned thoroughbred horses.
His survivors include a sister, Helen and her husband John Natale of Redwood, CA, and several cousins locally as well as in Greece, among whom are William Stathis of Haverhill.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Saturday morning at 10:00 from the H.L. FARMER & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 106 SUMMER ST., HAVERHILL, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, Winter St., Haverhill.
Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

Michael Kokinos
July 27, 2002 
Mr. Michael Kokinos, 90, of Haverhill, died Saturday morning, July 27th, at the Kenoza Manor, Haverhill.
He was born in Haverhill, August 18, 1911, son of the late Anthony and Olga (Marikas) Kokinos, and was educated in the Haverhill School System.
He was employed as an assembler at the former Western Electric, until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. Kokinos was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M. He was a 32nd Degree Mason belonging to Pentucket Chapter RAM Haverhill Council R. & S.M., Haverhill Commandry KT #14, Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington, and a member of the AHEPA Chapter #39, Haverhill.
His survivors include his wife Theodora (Fanos) Kokinos of Haverhill, a son, Peter Kokinos of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral was held Wednesday, July 31st, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, Winter St., Haverhill.  Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
Calling hours at the funeral home were held on Tuesday evening.

Josephine Lucia

Ms. Josephine Lucia, 78, of Haverhill, died Saturday morning at Country Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Newburyport.
She was born in Haverhill, October 14, 1923, daughter of the late Gus and Josephine (Mascaro) Lucia.
Ms. Lucia was educated in the Haverhill School System, graduating from Haverhill High. She was a member of the former St. Rita's Church.
Her survivors include 2 brothers, L. Daniel and his wife Shirley Lucia and Francis Lucia, a sister, Constance and her husband John Comeau all of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, July 30th, at All Saints Church in Haverhill, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.

George M. Barhanys
July 23, 2002 
Mr. George M. Barhanys, 71, of Haverhill, died Tuesday morning, July 23rd, at the Lawrence General Hospital.
He was born in Haverhill, April 4, 1931, son of the late Mike and Albertine (Brown) Barhanys.
Mr. Barhanys was educated in the Haverhill School System and attended Haverhill Trade School. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Borey. For over 25 years he was employed at Borden Chemical as an Extruder Helper, from where he retired in 1993.
He enjoyed watching baseball & football.
His survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dora (Boulanger) Barhanys of Haverhill, 2 sons, Peter and his wife Rhonda Barhanys of Haverhill, Michael and his wife Patricia Barhanys of Port St. John, FL, 3 daughters, Deborah Barhanys of Haverhill, Karen Ellis of Port St. Lucy, FL, Janine Cunningham of Port St. John, FL, 4 sisters, Florence Ford of Haverhill, Phyllis Harrington of West Brattleboro, VT, Bernice Cardran and Marie Morse both of Haverhill, 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Barhanys was also the brother of the late Louise Gauron.
His funeral service and visitation were held Friday, July 26th, at the H.L. FARMER & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 106 SUMMER ST., HAVERHILL.  Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. 

Cynthia Jean "Jeannie" (Bailey) Boyd

Mrs. Cynthia Jean "Jeannie" (Bailey) Boyd, 56, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, July 19th, in Manchester, NH.
She was born in Haverhill on Jan. 19, 1946, attended the Haverhill School System graduating from Haverhill High School. She was employed as a real estate agent for REMAX in Plaistow for several years.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kendra J. Issa-Garrity of Chester, NH, Michelle E. Issa-Ekstrand and her husband Philip of Weare, NH, their father Kenneth Issa of Haverhill, 3 brothers, Charles "Biff" Bailey of Haverhill, David Bailey of Manhattan, NY, Victor Bailey of Bedford, MA, a sister, Dona Eaton of Haverhill, 2 grandchildren, Amanda J. Gauvin of Chester, NH and Jacob H. Ekstrand of Weare, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial period was held Saturday July 27, 2002  at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, MA.

John Fields
July 17, 2002 
John Fields, 68, of Haverhill died of cancer at his home on Wednesday, July 17th.
Mr. Fields was owner and chief executive officer of Marble Motor Corp, and had lived and worked in Haverhill throughout his adult life.
He was born in Boston, son of the late Mildred (Hickey) and Edwin S. Fields, Sr., was a graduate of Boston English High School and received his BA degree from Bowdoin College in l958, where he was a member of the P S I Upsilon Fraternity.
During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Coast Guard.
A lifetime summer resident of Rye Beach NH, he had served as President of the Rye Beach Club, and was a former Director of the Bank of Boston. Mr. Fields was currently a member of the Rotary Club of Haverhill.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Haverhill Country Club, and the ABENAQUI Country Club in Rye Beach, NH, and at the age of 17 was ranked the #3 Schoolboy in New England on the Boston Golf Team.
He was married to the late Barbara J. (Marble) Fields who died in l998, and his survivors include three sons John Fields Jr. of Washington DC, Dana A. Fields and his wife Linda L., and Duncan E. Fields, all of Haverhill, a daughter Melinda S. Fitzsimmons of Haverhill, a brother Dr. Edwin S. Fields, III and his wife Martha of Lexington, MA, a sister Constance S. Fields-Toppan, and her husband Robert Toppan, a grandson Dana C. Fields of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation was held Friday July 19th, at the H.L. FARMER & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 106 SUMMER ST, HAVERHILL.
There will be a private Memorial Service at a future date and at the convenience of the family members.
