Glenn L. Dowdy
BOGALUSA - Glenn Lamar Dowdy, age 61, owner of Maria's Mexican Restaurant, died at 6:30 a.m. today in the Washington-St. Tammany Regional Medical Center.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Philip Stagg, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Allen. Entombment will follow in Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until time for the funeral service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis C. Dowdy and Ethel Herrin Dowdy.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Dowdy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Keith Strickland of Prairieville, Darleen and James Heartfield of Soddy Daisy, TN, Kensy and Lee Palmer of Bogalusa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carlos Glenn and Becky Dowdy of Crossroads and Hector Dowdy of Bogalusa; a brother and sister-in-law, Royce and Patty Dowdy of Bogalusa; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Merle and Hal Hinote, and Eddie Marie and Jerry Anderson, all of Bogalusa; five grandchildren, Garrett Strickland, Maegan Strickland, Cory Heartfield, Camille Heartfield and Molly Dowdy; many nieces and nephews.

Rev. O. Dewitt Jenkins

BOGALUSA The Rev. O. Dewitt Jenkins, age 65, died Monday in Riverside Medical Center, Franklinton. A native and resident of the Talleytown community in St. Tammany Parish, he was former assistant pastor at New Beginning Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gleta Cooper Jenkins; a son, Hilliard Dewitt Jenkins and his wife, Dana of McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey; four daughters, Deleta Gayle Jenkins- Huhn of Loranger, Theresa Jenkins Neal and her husband, Keith Neal of Loranger, Deidra Jenkins Ashburn of Talleytown and Cathy Jenkins of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Scott Neal, Jennifer Ashburn, Austin Jenkins, Jean Huhn, Jessica Huhn, Megan Cooper and Dillon Jenkins; two brothers, Virgil Jenkins of Pumpkin Center and D. Denton Jenkins of Bogalusa; and a sister, Illa Lea Jenkins Smith of Albany, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Outher Jenkins and Alma Louise Talley Jenkins; and a brother, Titus Jenkins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa, continuing tomorrow at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev.
Dr. Frank Gutierrez and the Rev. Emile Tosso will officiate, with burial following in the Talley's Chapel Cemetery in Talleytown. 

Virginia Knight

BOGALUSA Visitation will be held today from 1:30 to 11 p.m. at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home for Virginia Knight, 63, who died yesterday at her residence, 1829 Willow Road, Bogalusa. She is survived by her husband, Eld. Lavelle Knight of Bogalusa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Greg McKenzie of Sheridan, Wanda and Douglas Freeman of Pine and Naomi and Shane Hunt of Labanon, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Percy Lavelle Knight Jr. and Bridget Knight of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren Rebekah Hunt, Shelley Hunt, Caroline Virginia Knight, Michael Carroll, Stephen McKenzie, Jason McKenzie, Christopher Hunt and Payton Knight, and eight great grandchildren.

BOGALUSA The Rev. Milton Charles Williams, age 56, a resident of 716 East Seventh Street, Bogalusa, died yesterday in the Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

Essie Moak Penton
(Died Aug. 31, 1999)
Funeral arrangements have been completed for Essie Moak Penton, 80, a resident of Franklinton who died this morning at the Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. and after 9 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home where the funeral services will held at 2 p.m. Eld. Edward Penton, Eld. Ted Phillips and Eld. Gary Sumrall will be officiating at the ceremony. Interment will be held in the Ellis Cemetery.
A member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Penton was survived by her husband, George Kelly Penton of Franklinton; one son Roy Penton of Franklinton; two sisters Grace Burch of Franklinton and Evon Rouse of Houston; one brother Percy Moak, Jr. of Franklinton; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Rachel Burch; a son Kelly Roy Penton and a sister Margie Moak.

Johnny Rogers
(Died Aug. 30, 1999)
Funeral arrangements have been completed for Johnny Rogers, 83, a resident of Franklinton who died at 12:15 p.m. on Monday at the Heritage Manor. Visitation will be held today after 9 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home where the funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. The Rev. W.L. Tullos will be officiating. Interment will be in the Thomas Cemetery.
Rogers was a retired engineer for Washington Western Railroad and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
He was survived by one daughter Pauline Cosse of Franklinton; one son Ronald J. Rogers of Franklinton; three sisters Carrie Venable of Shreveport, Nell Taylor of Zachary and Valerie Graves of Walker; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ernestine C. Rogers.

Clara Mae Magee Wallace

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Clara Mae Magee Wallace, 80, a resident of Bogalusa who died Aug. 28 at her residence, 919 Mercedes Street, Bogalusa. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa or at the family home from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Bogalusa. Dr. Aaron Thompson will be officiating the ceremony.
She is survived by one sister Delores Magee of New Orleans and one brother Bobby Magee of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Wallace; her parents Archie and Alemade Magee; and two brothers Thomas Ward Magee and Donald Ray Magee, Sr.

Willie Mae Mealy

Robert Harold Harris

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mr. Robert Harold Harris, 56, are scheduled for 2 p.m.
Monday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, with the Revs. Perry Jackson and Joe Quave officiating jointly.
Burial will follow in Pounds Cemetery, Brown McGehee Funeral Home directing.
Visitation was from 5:30-10 p.m. Sunday and continued from 8 a.m. Monday until the time of the services.
Mr. Harris died Aug. 29, 1999 at his residence in Bogalusa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy Ann Harris, his father, Edward F. Harris Sr., a sister, Jimmie Rose Mulford, and two brothers, Edward F. Harris Jr., and Sparks C. Harris.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Sheila McLaurin Harris, Bogalusa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy Lumpkin and Richard Lumpkin of Bogalusa and Deborah Gomez and Michael Gomez, St. Rose, La.; four sons, Trent McLaurin, Poplarsville, Miss., Eddie and Theresa Harris, Bobby and Roxann Harris and Jimbo and Regina Harris, all residents of Bogalusa; his mother, Dorothy C. Harris, Bogalusa; one sister, Lucille Hodge and husband J.W.
Hodge of Bogalusa; one brother, Billy Harris and wife Kay Harris, Soldnota, Alaska; an aunt, Cecil Morris, Bogalusa, and 15 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Mr. Harris' memory be made to the St. Tammany Hospice, 1202 Tyler St., Covington, La. 70433.

Richard A. Killingsworth
(Died Aug. 27, 1999)
WINNFIELD - Funeral services for Richard A. Killingsworth, 79, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the Hargis Baptist Church near Montgomery, La., with the Rev. Jeff Pollard officiating.
Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, Southern Funeral Homes of Winnfield directing.
Mr. Killingsworth died Aug. 27, 1999 at the Washington-St. Tammany Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa.
A member of the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. Killingsworth was a resident of the Hargis community.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Hale Killingsworth, Hargis; his mother, Maudie McCillwain Killingsworth, Bogalusa; three sons, Ray Killingsworth, Ronnie Killingsworth and Ernest Killingsworth, all residents of Bogalusa; one brother, Henry K. Killingsworth, Canyon Lake, Texas, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service today.

Emily L. Case May

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Emily L. Case May, 81, were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home chapel in Bogalusa with the Rev. Ron Witcher officiating.
Burial followed in Ponemah Cemetery, Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. May, a member of Pettitt Memorial Baptist Church of Bogalusa, died Aug. 25, 1999 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.
Visitation was from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home and continued Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services.
Mrs. May was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Eugene May; her parents, Benjamin H. and Myrtle E. Case, and three brothers, Julious Case, J.C. Case and Marcus Case.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph L. May, Bogalusa; two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Frances May, Brenda Gail May and Doonie Saraceno, all residents of Bogalusa; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Bonnie May, Mandeville, La.; six grandchildren, Jason Robert May, Hattiesburg, Miss., Adam Lee May and Sarah May, Mandeville, La., Richelle Phillips and Jason Richardson, Isabel, and Summer Paige Saraceno, Bogalusa, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Hezzie A. Parker

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Hezzie A. Parker, 76, a resident of Bush, La., were scheduled for 10 a.m. today from the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, Lynn Martin officiating.
Burial followed in the McGehee Cemetery, Brown-McGehee Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Parker died Aug. 28, 1999 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.
Visitation was from 5:30-10 p.m. Sunday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home and continued from 8 a.m. Monday until the time of the services.
Mr. Parker was a member of Ben's Ford Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local No. 60. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by a son, Charles Deron Parker, and two sisters, Myrtie Nation and Rita Cornet.
He is survived by his wife, LaJune McGehee Parker, Bush; three daughters, Donna Blackwell, Bush, Denise Barnes, Madisonville, and Diane Walker, Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Douglas Parker, Bogalusa; a sister, Louise Mancina, Stockton, N.J.; three brothers, Dr. Clea Parker, Hammond, Floyd Parker, Covington and Guy Parker, Hammond, and 12 grandchildren.

Miss Jackie Seals
(Died Aug. 28, 1999)
POPLARVILLE, Miss. - Funeral services for Miss Jackie Seals, 69, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church in the Buck Branch community of Poplarville, with the Revs. Richard Bailey and Dan Finley officiating jointly.
Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Buck Branch community, White Funeral Home of Poplarville directing.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to Tuesday's services.
Miss Seals died Aug. 28, 1999 at Bogalusa Community Medical Center.
Miss Seals was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in the Buck Branch community and was a retired machine operator with Crown Zellerbach of Bogalusa.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Minnie Seals, Poplarville, and three sisters, Gloria Jordan, Poplarville, Dale Carrier, Bogalusa, and Dot Rester, Zachary, La.
Pallbearers will be Louis Carrier, Joe Ard Williams, Mark Hathorne, Daniel Smith, Richard Young and Randolph Dillard.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and friends of Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Alice Fay Strahan

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Fay Strahan, 51, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Ben Mullins officiating.

Mrs. Strahan died Aug. 29, 1999 at the Bogalusa Community Medical Center.
She was a native and resident of Bogalusa.
Mrs. Strahan was preceded in death by her husband, Levert Strahan, a son, Preston Schilling, a sister, Dixie Mae Thomas, and her parents, Arnie Hilton Taylor and Mavis Elizabeth Barber Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters, Ms. Connie Schilling and Ms. Donna Polk, both residents of Bogalusa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Regina Taylor, Donald and Karen Schilling and Hilton and Charlotte Schilling, all residents of Bogalusa; a step son and his wife, Rafael and Beverly Trevino Jr., and her fianc‚, Ralph Trevino; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Thomas, Sandy Hook, Miss., and Mrs. Rachael Young and Mrs. Billie Sue Hill, both residents of Bogalusa, 15 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joseph Preston Lea

BATON ROUGE - Graveside services for Joseph Preston Lea, a native of Bogalusa, were held at 1 p m today at Serenity Gardens in Milton, Fla with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
Church services were also conducted Thursday at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, with the Rev David Womack officiating.
Mr Lea died Aug 24, 199 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
Born in Bessmay, Texas, Mr Lea grew up in Bogalusa, graduating from Bogalusa High School He worked for the U S Postal Service in Baton Rouge for 41 years, retiring as director of customer services He recently moved to Milton, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Ardelia Johnson Lea, Milton; two daughters, Lennie Wells, Appleton, Wis , and Elizabeth Lea Wilson, Milton, Fla ; two sons, Arden J Lea, Bruce, Fla , and Randall Lea, Baton Rouge; one sister, Evelyn Lea Starks, Baton Rouge; one brother, H Donald Lea, Bogalusa; three grandsons, Arden J Lea Jr , Jesse Neal Freeman and Neilson David Lea; two granddaughters, Allison Lea Wells and Azur D Wilson.
Mr Lea was a member and a deacon of Sherwood Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of Istrouma Baptist Church of Baton Rouge.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Sherwood Baptist Church Missions Funds.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Pearla Maxine Pounds of Bogalusa; one daughter, Connie Marie Lott of Little Rock, Arkansas; one son, William O Pounds of Bogalusa; one sister Mrs B E. "Juanita" Pounds Talley of Covington, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Emelda Green, and two brothers, William H Pounds and Walter B Pounds.

Francis D W 'Bill' Beatty

NEW ROADS Francis D W "Bill" Beatty, a retired cattleman and a resident of Ventress, died Tuesday in Pointe Coupee General Hospital, New Roads He was 84 and a native of New Roads He is survived by six daughters, Marie "Tot" Lacoste of Morganza, Susan Robinson, Margaret Sadden Madelin "Tuna" Harnage, all of Baton Rouge, Marline "Nue" Dickinson and Bridget Glaviano, both of Ventress; two sons, James Francis Beatty of Franklinton, and Francis D. W. "Jug" Beatty Jr of Ventress; a sister Henrietta "Sis" Ortis of Ventress; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Mildred Hebert Beatty; parents, Mr and Mrs.
Joseph W Beatty; and a brother, Henry "Bud" Beatty Pallbearers will be grandsons, Sidney Lacoste II, Michael, Stephen and Jason Sadden, Jim Beatty Jr , Jonas, John and Bryan Beatty, Ryan Dickinson and Joey Harnage.

POPLARHEAD - Tera Luper a resident of the Poplarhead community died Tuesday at the Riverside Medical Center She was a member of the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p m until 10 p m Wednesday and will continue at the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church after 8 a m Thursday until time for the funeral service at 10 a m in the church with the Eld Willie J Passman officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was preceded by her husband, Charlie Luper; one sister, Lela Luper and two brothers Wayne and Jewell Sumrall Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Richard Wade of Franklinton; one granddaughter, Jamie Wade of Franklinton; one great grandson; and three brothers, Hillary Sumrall, Willie Sumrall and Jessie Sumrall, Jr all of Franklinton.

Ronald Martin

DEXTER, MS Funeral services for Ronald Martin, age 41, will be held tomorrow 10 a m at Capps Funeral Home with the Rev James Messer and the Rev Wayne Cook officiating.
Visitation will be held today, from 4:30 p m until 10 p m at Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown.
Burial will follow in Brooks-Martin Cemetery of Washington Parish.
Ronald Martin was the owner of Martin's Tree Service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Martin.
Survivors include, his mother, Grace Freeman Martin; his wife, Gracelyn Ann Harvey Martin of the Dexter community; one son, Michael Carter of Tylertown; one daughter of Leighanna Carter of Morgantown, MS; stepchildren, La-Lania Buxton and Lawrence Ruiz, Jr , of Pearl River, LA, and Jessie Freeman of Tylertown; two grandsons; three step granddaughters and one step- grandson; brothers, J C Martin of Pine and Ralph Martin of Bogalusa; Special Brother-in-law, Willie Jones, Tylertown; two sisters, Janice Kenmar of Tylertown and Mavis Barber of Franklinton; special cousin, Tommy Freeman of Sandy Hook and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include, Rusty Jones, Wilson Edward Jones, and Scottie Martin Honorary pallbearer is Michael Corroa.

Letha Speights Keller

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Letha Speights Keller, age 99, will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Aaron J. Thompson officiating.
Dismissal will be Saturday at 8 a.m.. Interment will be at Duffy Memorial Garden Cemetery under the direction of Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa.
She is survived by three daughters, Ida Mae Smith and Sadie K. Marshall both of Bogalusa, and Leaudria K. Miller of New Orleans; two sons Curtis Martin and Eugene Keller both of Bogalusa; one son-in-law, Samuel L. Miller III of New Orleans; 40 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Bettie Ladner Knight

BOGALUSA - Funeral arrangements for Bettie Ladner Knight, age 69, will be conducted for the Chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Kenny Williams and the Rev. Tommy Varnado officiating. She was native of Poplarville and lifelong resident of Bogalusa. An employee of Wal-Mart and Salle's Supermarket, and a member of Pettitt Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will continue on Thursday after 8 a.m.
Interment will follow in Hillview Memorial Gardens in Bogalusa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Levander L. Ladner and Cora Lee Ladner; two brothers, J.D. Ladner, and Virgil Ladner; and one sister, Clote Myrick.
Survivors include, her husband, Marvin C. Knight of Bogalusa; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Charles Rester of Bogalusa and one son, Gregory Knight of Bogalusa; one sister, Mrs. Myrl Rester; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Rester both of Bogalusa.

Shyann Nicole Baker

COVINGTON - The two month old daughter of Emma Clawson and David Baker died Sunday at Lakeview Medical Center in Covington.
She is also survived by her brother Thomas Clawson, II; one sister Deana Clawson; grandparents, Shirley and Earl Boone of Bogalusa and Glenda Baker and Dave Sherman. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Corkern-Caves Cemetery near Springhill.

Krystal Shyan Daughtery

OSYKA - Krystal Shyan Daughtery age 17 months, drowned Sunday afternoon in the Tangipahoa River near Kentwood.
Visitation will be at the Crain Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Spears officiating. Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Michelle Daughtery of Osyka; one brother, Shawn Daughtery of Osyka; and one unborn sibling; grandparents, Doris Creel and Paul Smith of Osyka and Ruth Gerhold and Ross Adams of Mt. Hermon; great grandmother, Edna Ordoyne of Franklinton and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by grandfathers Wilson Penton and Robert Daugherty, Sr.

Stella Jones Sanders

LA PLACE - Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Gary Martinez officiating. Stella Jones Sanders died Sunday at the age of 81 and was a native of Zona and a lifelong resident of Bogalusa. Visitation will be today form 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday after 8 a.m.
Interment will follow in Spencer Cemetery north of Enon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Earl Sanders; her parents, Edward Jones and Ardell George Jones; a brother, Bill Jones; one sister, Florence Jenkins and a grandson Scott Miley-Franson.
Survivors include a son, Edward "Eddie" Sanders of Shreveport; a daughter, Mrs. Betty (Sue) Franson of La Place; two grandchildren, Brenda Corey and Connie Lynn Sykes both of Arlington, TX; three great grandchildren, Rick Corey, Sarah Corey and Dillon Corey; and one brother, Bennie Jones of Bogalusa.

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Melbe Annawythe Levy were held yesterday at Poole- Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with the Father Lawrence Phelps officiating. Visitation was also held Saturday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m.
Interment followed in Ponemah Cemetery.
