HAHNVILLE - Wilbert Batiste, 52, a native of Edgard and resident of
Marrero, died Nov. 19. He was the husband of Olevia Mae Wilson Batiste
andstep-father of Crystal Jusu, Shanell Hall and Darvin, Arlene and Ralph
Quinn.
He was also the son of the late John and Louella Lumar Batiste and
brother of Rose Mary Haydel, Mary Ann Darjean, Julia Coldwell, Barbara
Williams, Doloris Potier, Patricia Landry and Lawrence and Laddie Batiste.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 24 at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Hahnville,
withinterment at Bethlehem Cemetery, Hahnville.

LAPLACE - Ivy J. Battard, 82, a native and resident of Reserve, died
Nov.20. He was the son of the late Emile and Ida Battard and brother of
Charles Battard. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Services were held Nov. 23 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace,
with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

NEW ORLEANS - Mary Sandridge Chierici, 38, a native of Miami, Fla.,
and a resident of LaPlace, died Nov. 22. She was the mother of Christina
Chierici.
She was also the daughter of Thomas Sandridge and the late June Hart
Sandridge McGann and sister of Elizabeth Speight, Cathy Cooley, Wendy Allert,
Amy Monroy and Tom Sandridge Jr.
She is also survived by one grandchild.
Graveside services were held Nov. 24 at Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans.

NORCO - Lorraine Duhe Feraci, 71, a native of Napoleonville, resident
of Norco for 23 years and resident of Livingston for 25 years, died Nov.
19. She was the wife by first marriage of the late George Duhe and
by second marriage of Charles Feraci Jr., mother of Janice Watson, Craig
Duhe and the late Patsy Duhe and step-mother of Jan Brandon and Charles
Feraci III.
She was also the sister of Nicolas Lopez and the late Charles Lopez.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norco,
with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

LAPLACE - Noble Ray Johnson, 75, a native of Kentucky and resident
of LaPlace for 41 years, died Nov. 23. He was the husband of Bernice
M. Johnson and father of Denise Lawrence and Ronnie Johnson.

He is also survived by one grandchild.

of New Orleans, died Nov. 18. He was the father of Cynthia Shelby

LULING - Rashaad Christopher Rafiel, 2 months, a native of New Orleans
and a resident of Boutte, died Nov. 19. He was the son of Renata
Rafiel and Shane Smith.
He was also the grandson of Daisy Rafiel, Carl Hilaire, Laverne Bradley
and Kenneth Everett and great-grandson of Geraldine White, Bertrand and
Minnie Hilaire, Jessie and Jellorine Everett and the late Joseph Rafiel
Sr., Melvin and Thelma Bradley.

with interment at St. Philip Catholic Church Cemetery, Vacherie.

NEW ORLEANS - Adleen "Sis" Steib, 93, a native of Vacherie and a resident
of New Orleans for 75 years, died Nov. 21. She was the sister of the late
Dr. Roland, Lloyd, Stella and Leo Steib and Nola Jacob.She is also survived
by three nephews and five nieces.
Services were held Nov. 23 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church,
New Orleans, with interment at Hope Mausoleum.

FISHER
LAPLACE - Denitra Faye Fisher, an employee of L'Observateur, died Feb.
4 at Kenner Regional Hospital.
Better known to friends and fellow employees and "Ma Ma," Fisher was
head inserter in the newspaper's circulation department.
Fisher's infant son, Alfred James Williams Jr., died Feb. 3 at Kenner
Regional.
Fisher, a native and resident of LaPlace, was 35 years old.
She and the baby are survived by numerous friends and relatives, including
Fisher's daughter, Lashinta S. Fisher; stepchildren Christel Williams and
Demario Perrilloux, parents Remey Joseph Perrilloux Jr. and Lucille Perrilloux
Anderson and loving and devoted friend Alfred James Williams Sr.
Fisher was also the sister of Leonora, Jullone, Addrena and Jermaine
Perrilloux, step-daughter of Larry Anderson, granddaughter of Freeman Couto
Sr., Remey Joseph Perrilloux Sr., Margret Perrilloux and the late Thelma
Coyalle and devoted friend of Carlis Warren.
Fisher is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law,
brothers- and sisters-in-law, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family and employees of L'Observateur
were invited to attend the funeral service Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary
Baptist Church, 127 West Third St., LaPlace. Interment followed in Providence
Cemetery.

RESERVE - Matthew Jon Becnel, 18, a native and resident of Reserve,
died Feb. 8. He was the father of Joshua Adam. He was also the son
of Henry and Mary Ann Oubre Becnel, the step-son of Charlotte Becnel, the
brother of Hank, Aaron, Kerrie and Erica Becnel and Gina St. Amant and
step-brother of Rupert Morgan. He was also the grandson of Josephine
Oubre, Rita Becnel and the late Linden "Bilbo" Oubre and Placide Becnel.

interment at the church cemetery.

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. - James L. Belsome Sr., 75, a native of Hahnville
and a resident of Waveland, Miss., died Feb. 10. He was the father of Suzanne
Harmon, Susan Sales, Henrietta Foy, James Jr. and Russell Belsome and Edmond
Foy.
He was also the brother of Stella Boutte and Marjorie Troxler.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

MARRERO - Billie Jo Alexie Boudreaux, 27, a native of New Orleans,
former resident of Marrero and resident of LaPlace for four months, died
Feb. 9.She was the wife of Chadwick Boudreaux and mother of Chad Phillip

LULING - Eldred Edward Cook, 91, a native of Straud, Ala., resident
of Boutte for 46 years and Metairie for 1 1/2 years, died Feb. 9. He was
the husband of Willie Mae Butler Cook and father of Marjorie Lehew.
He was also the brother of the late Johnny, Wiley, Shurley and Mamie
Brown.
He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling.

NEW ORLEANS - The Rev. Russell Leon Dornier, S.J., 86, a native of
Conventand a resident of New Orleans, died Feb. 11. He was the son of the
lateJoseph and Julie Dicharry Dornier and brother of Gladys Benson and
Garland Dornier. He was also predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
He was educated at Sacred Heart Academy and Jefferson College, Convent,
Romeville High School and Louisiana State University.
He entered the Jesuit Order in 1931 and was ordained in 1944. He ministered
in Shreveport, Grand Coteau and at Manresa Retreat House, Convent.
Services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, NewOrleans,
with interment at the Jesuit Cemetery, New Orleans.

COLLEGE POINT, N.Y. - William Foster Helfrich, 76, a native of Flushing,N.Y.,
former resident of Crown Point and resident of Luling for four years,died
Feb. 8. He was the husband of the late Mildred Rohrer Helfrich, fatherof
Linda Rinfret and Billi Ann Grisbaum and step-father of Loretta, Hank and
Leroy Dymond and the late Terry Dymond.
He is also survived by 10 step-grandchildren and five step-great- grandchildren.

VACHERIE - Lillian Luquette Ockmond, 87, a native and resident of Vacherie,
died Feb. 11. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Ockmond Sr.and mother
of Gloria Stein, Barbara Becnel, Betty Marse, Dianna Brown, Lillian Granier,
Robert Jr. and Russell Ockmond and the late Lawrence Ockmond.
She was also the daughter of the late Numa and Corinne Oubre Luquette
and sister of Florence Gravois and Albert Luquette, and was predeceased
by three brothers and two sisters.
She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and
two great-great-grandchildren.

interment at the church cemetery.

Feb. 9.She was the wife of the late Amedee "Rich" Richard and mother of
Dwain, Carl and Barry Richard.

and sister of the late Lillian, Florence, Bernice, Iola, Rose, Blanche,

late Ozanne Joseph Sr. and Marie Louise Brazan Joseph and sister of Marie

and the late Rita Roberts and Rene, Guy, O.J. Jr., Della and Denise Gravois.
