Thelma Lois Smith, 69, of Arcadia, LA was born May 25, 1931 in Clanton, AL and passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at Schumpert Medical Center. Funeral services were Saturday, November 25, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Tyler, Rev. E D Morris and Rev. Charles Lutrick officiating. Burial was in Driskill Mountain Cemetery in Bienville, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mrs. Thelma was a Homemaker.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 50 years, J. D. Smith of Arcadia; 2 sons, J. D. Smith, Jr. and wife Kitty of Bossier City and David Smith and wife Becki of Plain Dealing; 2 daughters, Margaret Waits and husband Ray and Brenda Antee and husband Shane all of Arcadia; 1 sister, Ruby Lewis and husband W. J. of Minden; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her sister Loretta Jones of Gonzales, LA. Her nephews served as pallbearers.

Susan Gueydan Anthony, 87, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, November 20, 2000 in Jonesboro of natural causes. Mrs. Anthony was a resident of Sunbridge Jackson Manor for 7 years. Memorial service was at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2000 at Sunbridge Jackson Manor Nursing Home with Chris Gueydan officiating. Burial was in Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mrs. Anthony is survived by: 1 son, Edmond Gueydan and wife Frances of New Orleans, LA; 1 daughter-in-law, Gloria Gueydan of Jonesboro, LA; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Larry Smith -- Ruston, LA
Larry William Smith, 44, of Ruston, LA, died Sunday, November 26, 2000 in Goldonna, LA following a sudden illness. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel of Ruston, LA with Rev. Don Doughty officiating. Interment was at Brooks Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Smith was a member of the Yankee Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Sue M. Smith of Ruston; 3 sons, Jan-Michael Smith, Ryan Smith of Ruston and Brad Lafollett of Little Rock, AR; his parents, Johnny W. and Alice M. Smith of Goldonna, LA and 1 sister, Connie Burbank of Farmerville, LA. Pallbearers were: Mickey Sherill, Johnny Sherill, Shannon Sparks, and Kenneth Weeks.

Rose Stewart -- Quitman, LA
Rose Melba Stewart, 67, of Quitman, LA was born June 20, 1933 at Ansley, LA and passed away Monday, November 27, 2000 at Jackson Parish Hospital. Graveside Service was Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Ansley Cemetery with Rev. Ken Klemme officiating. Burial was in Ansley Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Ms. Stewart was a life time member of Quitman Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Calcasieu Association of Educators where she worked at Bell City High School for 23 years as head librarian. She is survived by: 2 step brothers, Harold Stewart and Jerry Stewart of Zwolle, LA; and 3 cousins, Bobby Norman and wife Millie of Shreveport, LA, Francis Norman and wife Wanda and Sylvia Pagan and husband Perry of Quitman, LA. The Graduating class of 1952 of Quitman High School served as Honorary Pallbearers.

Travis E. Young -- Winnfield, LA
Travis E. Young, 81, of Winnfield died Sunday, November 26, 2000 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. Funeral services were Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.(s) Lester Carpenter and Wallace Ingles officiating. Burial was in Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, LA. Mr. Young was a retired worker for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Rosie Young of Winnfield; 2 sons, Fred Young and wife Jan of Winnfield and Travis Young and wife Cherry of Jonesboro; 2 daughters, Jeanette Young and Charlotee Young both of Winnfield; 1 sister, Odell Ashcraft of Jonesboro; 4 grandchildren, Lori Wagnon, Leah Spangler, Kevin & Mitchell Young; and 9 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Kevin Young, Ronnie Wagnon, Jason Spangler, Charles Spangler, Kenneth Jordan and Jim Fordham. Honorary Pallbearers were: Marshall Jordan, R. D. Barron, Harley Austin, Arvene Spangler, and Arzell Spangler.

William Borland -- Jonesboro, LA
Mr. William Borland, 85, of Jonesboro, LA was born September 22, 1915 in Jonesboro and passed away Monday, November 13, 2000 in Willis Knighton Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday, November 15, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Doughty and Bro. Bill Moore officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mr. Borland was a loving husband for 60 years to Mrs. Audie Fain Borland. He retired from Continental Can Company after 32 years of service and was a member and Deacon of Southside Baptist Church. He was also a veteran.
He is survived by: his wife, Audie Fain Borland of Jonesboro; 3 sisters, Lola Blundell of Shreveport, Ollie Dark and Eva Raborn of Jonesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Emmett Blundell, Bobby Doyle Borland, Raymond Borland, Grady Brooks, Tommy Emanus, and Bobby Roberts. Honorary pallbearers were: Curtis Hogg, Bud King, and Luther Rhymes.

Lou Henderson -- Jonesboro, LA
Mommy Lou, 96, died Thursday, October 26, 2000 in Lincoln General Hospital after a brief illness. Services were held Monday, October 30, 2000 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery under the direction of Simmons Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
Mommy Lou gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church where she was the oldest member of this church family. She was the daughter of the late Sam Henderson and Mary Magelene Jefferson Henderson. She was the mother of 5 lovely children which 2 preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters, Bernice Davis & Ruth E. Henderson of Jonesboro and Odell Henderson of Ruston; a foster daughter, Jeanette Dean of Quitman; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Elnora McGuire of Jonesboro; 1 brother Roy Henderson of Oak Grove and many, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Pallbearers were: Leroy McGuire, Doug McGuire, Charles McGuire, Corbet McGuire, Jr. Billy Henderson, and Daryl Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were: Willie J. Henderson, Willie L. Henderson, W. C. Flanagan, Jr., Hargie L. Davis, Johnny R. Hicks, Anthony Davis, and Keith Henderson.

Charles Nesbit, Sr. -- Jonesboro, LA
Charles Winford "Buddy" Nesbit, Sr., 80, of Jonesboro born August 15, 1920 in Knox City, TX passed away Monday, November 6, 2000 in Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services were Thursday, November 9, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at North Hodge Assembly of God with Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Mr. Nesbit was a paper machine operator and a Veteran of World War II. He was also a charter member of North Hodge Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; two brothers, Edgar and T. L. Nesbit; and one sister, Lillian Moon.
He is survived by: two sons, Charles W. Nesbit, Jr. and wife Catherine of Shreveport, LA and Jerry Nesbit and wife Sandra of Hodge, LA and sister-in-law, Aulena Peevy of Jonesboro, LA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Otis "Ted" Alford -- Jonesboro, LA
Otis Kenner "Ted" Alford, 85, of Jonesboro, LA was born June 30, 1915 in Goldonna, LA and passed away Monday, November 6, 2000 in Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services were Thursday, November 9, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Driggers officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Cemetery under the directions of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Alford was a retired bag tender.
He is survived by his wife, Artie Ethel Alford; 1 son, Delane Alford and wife Wilda; 2 daughters, Irma Ashcraft and husband Patrick, all of Jonesboro, LA, and Virginia Ann Self and husband Ronnie of Crossett, AR; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Alan Ashcraft, Wade Ashcraft, Preston Ashcraft, Timothy Ashccraft, Doug Self, Craig Self and Matt Jacobs.

Alma McCaa -- Ruston, LA
Alma Beatrice McCaa, 92, of Ruston, LA was born February 23, 1908 in DeRidder, LA and passed away Monday, November 6, 2000 at Alpine Guest Care Center. Funeral services were Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. John Charles officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mrs. McCaa was a homemaker. She was a former resident of Shreveport and was a graduate of the first class of Byrd High School in 1926. She was a former member of the Shreveport Chorale Ensemble, Broadmoor Baptist Church and Ingleside Baptist Church were she taught Sunday School to young people and adults for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. McCaa, Sr.
She is survived by: two daughters, Mary A. Clancy of Talco, TX, and Ladye M. Harveston and husband Joe of Jonesboro, LA; two sons, J. D. McCaa and wife Quita of Dallas, TX and W. C. McCaa, Jr. and wife Joyce of Ruston, LA; two nieces, Kay Clay of Chicago, IL and Jane German of Shreveport, LA; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth McCaa of Shreveport, LA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Pallbearers were: Richard Holsomback, Michael McBride, Mark McCaa, Michael H. McCaa, W. C. McCaa, III, and Troy Smith.

Thomas Crozier -- Hodge, LA
Thomas Joseph Allen Crozier, Sr., 85, of Hodge, LA was born September 30, 1915 in Bath, New Brunswick, Canada and passed away Monday, November 6, 2000 in Lincoln General Hospital. Funeral services were Thursday, November 9, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church with Father Bob Leonhardt officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the directions of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Crozier was a pulp mill superintendent.
His parents moved to Portland, Maine when he was an infant. After graduating from the University of Maine, he moved to Hodge to work as a Chemist for Southern Advance Paper Company and Pulp Mill superintendent for Continental Can. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the infantry and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Crozier of Hodge, LA; 1 daughter, Margaret Crozier of Destin, FL; 1 son, Thomas Crozier, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Houston, TX; 4 sisters, Alice Crozier of Baltimore, ME, Mary DeCosta of Naples, FL, Helen Herzig of Colton, CA and Ann Norton of Tampa, FL; 1 brother, Francis J. Crozier of Falmouth, ME; 1 granddaughter, Emily Crozier of Houston, TX; and 1 grandson, Sean Thomas Crozier of Houston, TX. Pallbearers were: Sean Crozier, Christopher Crozier, Francis Crozier II, Gil Dowies, Mike Dowies, and Lou Charles Napper. Honorary pallbearers were John Hall, Carrell Dowies, William A. Mr. Howard Mitchell, 87, of Simsboro, LA passed away Thursday, November 9, 2000 in Ruston, LA. Wake service was Monday, November 13, 2000 from 6 to 7 p.m. at B. E. King Chapel in Ruston, LA. Funeral services were Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church under the direction of King’s Funeral Home, Inc. of Ruston, LA. Mr. Mitchell was a retired laborer.

Clifford Quarles -- Jonesboro, LA
Clifford Morrell Quarles, 78, of Jonesboro, LA was born September 22, 1922 in Union, LA and passed away Friday, November 10, 2000 at Healthsouth North LA. Rehab Hospital. Funeral service was Sunday, November 12, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Lutrick, and Rev. Loyd Sowers officiating. Burial was in Gayla Traina Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Quarles was a retired bag finisher and an Army Veteran.
He is survived by: his wife, Sela M. Quarles of Jonesboro; 2 daughters, Linda Bryan of Jonesboro and June Deal of Bastrop; 3 sons, Clifford "Dickie" M. Quarles of Jonesboro, Douglas Quarles of Natchitoches, and Jerry L. Quarles of Hallsville, TX; 1 brother, Dalton Quarles of Hodge; 3 sisters, Mollie Cannady of Shreveport, Mildred Shackleford of Jonesboro, and Martha Walker of Freeport, TX; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ernest Hogan -- Jonesboro, LA
Jesse Ernest Hogan, 66, of Jonesboro, LA was born August 22, 1934 in Weston, LA and passed away Friday, November 10, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral services were Monday, November 13, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jesse Stripland and Rev. Marty Wright officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mr. Hogan was a lifelong resident of Weston, LA. He had served on the Weston Water Board for several years. Mr. Hogan was retired from the Jonesboro Insurance Agency as manager after 40 years of service.
He is survived by: his wife, Kay Hogan of Jonesboro; 1 son, Ron Hogan & wife Rena’ of West Ouachita Community; 2 daughters, Donna Herring & husband, Deany of Dubach and Debbie Pender & husband Joey of Weston; 2 brothers, Bill Hogan of Quitman and Davis Hogan of West Monroe; 2 sisters, Delma Massey of Weston and Thelma Robertson of Sarepta; 4 grandchildren, Dallas Herring of Dubach, Katie Hogan and Taylor Hogan of West Ouachita Community, and Jes Pender of Weston; and a special friend, Mable Lintott of Jonesboro. Lillian Maxine Thrift, 78, of Jonesboro died Friday, November 10, 2000 at Lincoln General Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2000, in the Calvary Tabernacle with Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Burial was in the Jonesboro Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Thrift was a retired sales clerk.
She is survived by: 1 daughter, Linda Durbin of Jonesboro; 2 sisters, Sally Smith of Jena, LA and Genevive Pyles of Indiana; 2 brothers, Grady Dean of Jonesboro and Jimmy Dean of Jena; 1 grandson, Brandon Durbin of Jonesboro and 1 granddaughter, Misty Durbin of Winnfield.

Jerry Clyde Littlejohn, 54, of Parks, AR, died Friday, November 10, 2000 in his home of natural causes. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at Parks Baptist Church. Burial was at Hawkins Cemetery in Parks, AR under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron, AR. Mr. Littlejohn was a retired electronic technician, member of Parks Baptist Church & an Air Force Veteran.
He is survived by: his wife, Rosemary Littlejohn; 3 daughters, Nina Jones of Parks, AR, Hannah & Heather Littlejohn, both of The Home; 1 son, James Littlejohn of The Home; 2 brothers, Dale Littlejohn of DeQuincey, LA and Ray Littlejohn of Jonesboro, LA. Mr. Jerry Clyde Littlejohn is a former resident of Jonesboro, LA.

Ruth Anne Settles -- Chatham, LA
Ruth Anne Settles, 93, of Chatham, LA was born in Mississippi on October 7, 1907 and died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at Glenwood Medical Center. Funeral services were at Chatham Baptist Church on Friday, March 2, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Bro. Bill Moore officiating. Burial was in Chatham Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Settles was a homemaker. She is survived by: 2 sons, James T. Higgins of Kingsland, GA and John F. Seymour of Folkston, GA; 2 nieces, Voncille Soloman of West Monroe, LA and Hazel Ward of Crowville, LA; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

David Hammock -- Jonesboro, LA
Funeral services were held for David (D.L.) Hammock, Sr., Monday, February 19, 2001, 11:00 a.m. at the Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA with Pastor Zettie L. Moore, Jr., officiating. Interment was in the Travelers Rest Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Winnfield Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA. David Lee Hammock, Sr. was born in Jonesboro, LA October 22, 1931. After a brief illness, he entered eternal rest on Monday, February 12, 2001 at 1:15 p.m. at Lincoln General Hospital, Ruston, LA. He was the fourth of five children born to the late Alonzo Hammock, Sr. and Kattie Lee Simpson. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at the Travelers Rest Baptist Church by Reverend Killings.
He attended the public schools of Jackson Parish and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. He was very active in sports and played football and basketball. He continued his education at Grambling State University and Alcorn University. Although he did not complete college, he was the greatest "Arm chair coach" that ever lived. D. L., as he was known throughout North Louisiana, was a happy, fun loving person who was always willing to help others. Regardless of the situation, he could always think of something to say that would add humor.
On September 19, 1965, he was married to Evelyn Janelle Sampson. They were the proud parents of three children, two boys and one girl.
For a while he was employed at Jonesboro Dry Cleaners and later was hired at Continental Can Company. He worked in the Bag Mill first and then later he went to the Pulp Mill Laboratory, where he ran tests. For thirty-three years he worked at CCC. David spent his spare time fishing, hunting, and attending sports events here and neighboring college and universities. His favorite past time was spoiling his grandchildren.
He leaves not to mourn, but to cherish the beautiful memories: a loving and devoted wife, Janelle; three daughters, Vanessa (Marvin) of Bedford, TX, Suretha Wimberly of Jonesboro, LA, and Judy Williams (Dennis) of Valdosta, GA; four sons, David Jr. (Beverly), and Deavon Kendall, both of Jonesboro, LA, Terry Wayne (Jeanie) of Ruston, LA, Billy Frank of Lake Charles, LA; two brothers, W. L. (Rosie), and Lessell (Annie); 18 grandchildren, one of whom he considered his own— Korynn. She was the apple of Pawpee’s eye; 3 great grandchildren; three aunts, Dollie Mayfield, Hattie Smith, both of Dubach, LA, Alice Richards of Los Angeles, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jessie H. McBride -- Shreveport, LA
Services for Jesse Homer McBride were held in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street in Shreveport at 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2001. Officiating was Dr. George Pearce, Jr. of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, assisted by Father Paul Martin of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Ave.
Mr. McBride died Friday, February 23, 2001, under hospice care at his home in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. He was born July 9, 1906 in Jackson Parish of Stephen Daniel McBride and Margaret Williams McBride. He attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston. After moving to Shreveport in the twenties he attended Centenary College.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret McBride Deckard, his parents, a brother, D. Lyman McBride, and sister, Edna McBride Naremore, all of Shreveport. McBride is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bess Burkett McBride; a daughter, Marcia McBride Zuber and husband Donald S. Zuber; 6 grandchildren, Stuart C. Deckard and wife Amanda Castille Deckard, Patrick Watts, Maggie Watts Robe and husband Robert Robe, Phillip Watts, Donald Zuber, Jr., David Zuber; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by: 2 sisters, Mrs. Hazel McBride Rush of Jonesboro and Mrs. Ethel McBride Smith of Ruston. Pallbearers were his grandsons and honorary pallbearers were members of Kiwanis Club of Shreveport.

Charles Quarles -- Jonesboro, LA
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Day Quarles Jr. was at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA with Dr. John Charles officiating. Burial was in the Gayla Traina Memorial Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Quarles passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001 in the Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, LA.
Mr. Quarles was the son of Ione and Charles Day Quarles Sr. and was born in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Georgia Tech University and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Quarles was a paper engineer for 42 years and retired from Stone Container Corp. in Hodge, LA as Director of Maintenance and Engineering. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, an avid golfer, and member of Advance Country Club and a member of the Jonesboro Hodge Lions Club.

Edward Erie Wittwer, 60, died peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at home of cancer. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2001 at the Eagle L. D. S. Stake Center on North Eagle Road. Burial is at the Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel of Boise, ID.
Ed was born June 12, 1940 in rural Bowman, MO to LeRoy Madison Wittwer and Opal Mae Ball Wittwer. His dad died when he was young and he became very independent and responsible. He worked in the oil fields at age 13. He served in the army and went to Germany. He has lived in California, Louisiana, Arkansas, Nevada, Missouri and Idaho.
He has six children: Tammy, Anna Lisa, Joseph, Lacy, Stacy and Tracy. He married Jodie Lyn Jordan and they were later divorced. For the past 13 years he has raised Lacy and Tracy as a single parent and loves them dearly. He is survived by 5 children: his sisters, Dixie Shoemaker, Judy Medders, and Joanne Thompson; his brother, Donny Wittwer. His parents, a brother, Joseph LeRoy Wittwer, and his daughter, Stacy preceded him in death.

Mrs. Martin’s greatest goal was the restoration of Hickory Springs Church in Caldwell Parish where she was born and raised. This goal was achieved several years ago and gave her great satisfaction. She was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold G. Martin, Sr. Mrs. Martin was the last survivor of her family which included eight brothers and sisters.

Marine Corps Captain and was retired from Laundry services of Clemson University. He was a member of Cateechee Baptist Church, the Marine Corps Mustang Association and the S. C. State Employees Association.

Santo P. Tardo -- Naples, ME
Santo "San" Tardo, 94, of Naples, Maine died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Clover Manor in Auburn, Maine. He was born September 6, 1906 in Lafourche, Louisiana. Santo, a long-term resident of Jonesboro, Louisiana moved to Naples in 1991 to live with his daughter, Sandra.
His wife of 45 years, Jane Kennedy Tardo and his daughter, Linda Jane Tardo preceded him in death. He is survived by: his daughter, Sandra Tardo Long of Naples; three grandchildren, Christopher Tardo Long of Columbia, South Carolina, Jeremy Tardo Long of Paducah, Kentucky and Melinda Rogers of Monroe, Louisiana and five great grandchildren.
He was a retired cobbler, having been in business for 60 years in Jonesboro, Louisiana. Mr. Tardo was a Navy veteran and a lifetime member of the Masonic Order. He loved fishing and was an avid golfer. In Maine, he attended the Conway, NH Church of Christ, having been a founding member of the Jonesboro Church of Christ in Louisiana.
Services were held on Saturday, February 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the Jonesboro Church of Christ, with burial at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Visitation was held Friday, February 2nd from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday January 27, 2001 in the Ruston Latter Day Saints Church. Burial was in the Ruston Latter Day Saints Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker.

Funeral services were Sunday, January 28, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Hodge United Pentecostal Church in Hodge with Rev. Jeff Stroud officiating. Burial was in Hodge Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mrs. Austin was a bag machine operator. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Gordia Alva Austin, infant twins, Robert Dean and Doris Jean Austin and son, Doyle Austin, three brothers, Ross, T. P., and William Higdon.

Mrs. Crawford was a resident of Jonesboro-Hodge for many years. Graveside services were Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Hurricane Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Basil H. Conn, 87, of Jonesboro was born January 23, 1914 in Chatham, LA and died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Healthsouth North La. Rehab Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Wright and Rev. Truman Leach officiating. Burial was at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Conn was a Boiler Maker at Continental Can Company and an Army Veteran. Mr. Conn was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Conn.
He is survived by: his wife, Margaret Conn of Jonesboro, LA; 3 daughters, Sandra Hale and husband, Duane of El Dorado, AR, Nancy Harberson and husband Dennis of Ruston, LA, and Eileen Taylor and husband Jack of Jonesboro; 1 brother, Truett Conn and wife Jo Layne of El Dorado, AR; 1 daughter-in-law, Debbie Conn Parker of Jonesboro; 8 grandchildren, Danielle Nordone & husband Jeff, Shane Hale and wife Jill, David Conn, Carrie Taylor, Ashley Conn, Brooke Hale, Lindsey Harberson & Wesley Hale; and 1 great granddaughter, Carley Hale.

Doris Hays -- Jonesboro, LA
Services for Doris Smith Hays was held at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. John Charles and Bro. Stuart Toms officiating. She was born on November 14, 1921 in Saline, LA. After graduating from Saline High School, she attended Normal College and Dodd College.
She married William Dewell Hays on March 28, 1942. She worked for the Jackson Parish Police Jury and enjoyed serving as a Pink Lady at the Jackson Parish Hospital. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro until her illness. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, and activities with her family. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Frye and A. D. Smith; brothers, A. D. , Don, and Jack Smith; and sisters Lela Maude Fuller, Billie Daughenbaugh, Delane Hickman, and infant sister Christine.
She leaves these to cherish her memory: Her husband of 58 years, William Dewell Hays; a son, Ronnie Hays and wife Sandra of Shreveport, LA; two daughters, Dianne Turner and husband Curtis of Shreveport, LA and Helen Koonce and husband Roy of Quitman, LA; 6 grandchildren, Chad McFearin and wife Deanna of Quitman, Marla Fry and husband Jamie of Madison, MS, Stacy Walb and husband Kevin stationed in England, Kevin Hays of Shreveport, Kevin Koonce and wife Amanda Koonce of Quitman, and Keith Koonce of Quitman; and ten great grandchildren, Macey and Maggie McFearin, Anna Fry, Morgan Hays, and Sara and Brandon Walb, and Klay, Chelsea, Brittany, and Bradley Koonce all of Quitman, LA.

Carolyn Pepper Franklin, 61, of Jonesboro, LA died Friday, January 26, 2001 in Shreveport, LA following a sudden illness. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Self officiating. Burial was at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Franklin was a retired Caddo parish school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband Perry M. Franklin, father Walter Pepper, and nephew Wade Childress.
