Governor Jimmie Davis, 101, of Baton Rouge, LA, died Sunday, November
5, 2000 at his residence in Baton Rouge, LA of natural causes. Funeral

Tabernacle with Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Burial was in the Tabernacle

Governor Davis was a singer-song writer and a two time former Governor
of Louisiana. He is survived by: wife - Anna Carter Davis of Baton Rouge,
LA; one son - Jimmie Davis Jr. of Newellton, LA; two step sons - Gregory
Gordon of Nashville, TN and Howard Gordon of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
one step daughter - Vickie Owens of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters - Dorothy

Services for Mrs. Eva Rieson Taylor, 89, were held at 11 a.m., Monday,
October 30, 2000 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield and graveside

3 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro, LA with Rev. Michael Montana
pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Mansfield officiating. She
died on October 27, 2000 at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport, LA after
a sudden illness. Mrs. Taylor was a native of Jackson Parish and a former
resident of Beaumont, TX. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Eva Rieson Taylor is survived by husband, Denzel P. Taylor of
Mansfield; son, John Coleman and wife, Joan of Castro Valley, CA; daughter,
Billie Graham and husband, Doyle of Mansfield; sisters, Julia Coleman of

Tom Jackson -- Jonesboro, LA
Deacon Tom Jackson, born May 1, 1910, to the late Willie and Effie
Jackson. To this union seven children were born of which two sisters, Cibie
Hines and Ethel Amos; two brothers, Issac Jackson and A. J. Jackson preceded
him in death.
He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in his youth.
Tom was a great fisherman; his greatest catch of all was Pauline (Honey)
Thomas. They were united in marriage in 1933. He was the father of seven
children; Effie Mae Henderson, Jonesboro, LA, Mary Jane Washington of Milwaukee,
WI, Lessell Jackson of Jonesboro, LA, Tommy Lee Jackson of Milwaukee, WI,
Willie Faye Cleveland of Denver, CO, and Danyaile Spight of Indianapolis,
IN. His son Chester preceded him in death.
He owned and operated his own business. He was a Grand Marshall and
member of the M. W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, 7th Star #197 of Jonesboro,
LA. A faithful and dedicated member of the New Friendship Baptist Church,
he served as Deacon and church treasurer. He was a kindhearted man and
a good friend to everyone.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Pauline Jackson of Jonesboro; two sisters,
Odessa Bradley of Pasadena, CA and Stella Booker of Altadena, CA; six children,
19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren,
and a host of relatives and friends.
James McKinney -- Angleton, TX
James S. McKinney was born July 13, 1921, in Madison Parish, Louisiana,
and died October 20, 2000, at his home in Bailey’s Prairie, TX. He was
reared in Gibsland and graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1942. He served
in the U. S. Navy and later worked as an engineer at Dow Chemical Co. In
1957 he established a business which in 1968 became McKinney, Inc., and
he was active in that company until shortly before his death. He was a
long-time member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Mizell McKinney of Bailey’s
Prairie, TX, 3 sons, 2 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, and a sister, Marguerite
Lucky of Jonesboro, LA. Funeral services were held at the Angleton United
Methodist Church on October 23. Burial followed in Angleton Cemetery under
the direction of the Palms Funeral Home.
Corrine Barnard -- Quitman, LA
Corrine Loe Barnard, 87, of Quitman, LA, passed away October 21, 2000
at Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, following a brief illness. Mrs. Barnard
was born January 7, 1913 in Quitman and lived most of her life in that
community. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband
Harrell Douglas Barnard.
She is survived by 1 son, Charles Buddy Barnard of Baton Rouge; 4 daughters,
Francelia Jimmerson and husband John of Dubach, Pat Staggs and husband
Sherby of Clay, Jackie Annette Shields of Shreveport, and Mary Nannette
Barnard of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great,
great grandchild; sister-in-law, Cloma Guinn Loe of West Monroe, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Owens Funeral Home in Ruston Monday, October
23, 2000. A graveside memorial service, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Pyles,
Superintendent, Ruston District, United Methodist Church Conference, was
held Thursday, October 26, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian
Cemetery in Quitman. The family has requested that memorials be made to
the American Heart Association or to other charitable organization or church
of personal choice.

28, 2000 at Glenwood Medical Center of West Monroe, LA of natural causes.

Ann Marie Moser Parent died October 9, 2000 in Garland, TX, following
a lingering illness. Mrs. Parent was the daughter of Mrs. Alta Moser Swanner
and the step daughter of Elder Lelon Swanner of Jonesboro.
She was born February 13, 1945, in Long Beach, CA, where her father,
the late Leslie Wayne Moser was stationed with the U.S. Navy. She attended
elementary and junior high school in Rogers, AR, and high school in Miami,
OK. She attended college in Rutherford, OK.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Larry Parent of Allen, TX, and a daughter,
Sherri Dawn Parent of Boise, ID, and three grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Richard Parent. Funeral services will be held
at Praise Temple, Garland, TX, at 1 p.m., Monday, October 16.

Isabel Shows -- Topeka, Kansas
Isabel Delgado Shows, 88, of Topeka, KS formerly of Guatemala City,
Guatemala. was born August 9, 1912 passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2000
at a Topeka care home of natural causes. She attended schools in Guatemala
City, Guatemala and the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka. She married
James Eustace Shows on April 12, 1947, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He
preceded her in death on December 16, 1989. Mrs. Shows was cremated. Private
graveside services will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Jonesboro, LA. under the
direction of Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.

School and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science. He was retired from
and former owner of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA. He was an Army
Veteran of World War II.

Edwin C. Moore, 81, was born June 12, 1919 in Quitman, LA and passed
away Friday, September 1, 2000 in Longmont United Hospital, Longmont ,
CO. Memorial Service was Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the
Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with Reverend James Johnston of the First Pentecostal
Church UBC officiating.
Cremation was at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory under the direction
of Alhberg Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. of Longmont, CO Mr. Moore
was a welder and during a 35 year career he worked for Eaton Metals, the
Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Rocky Flats and for 15 years at IBM, Boulder. He
retired in 1981. He was a member of the Army Air Corps, and stationed at
Lowry Air Base in Denver, CO during WWII. He was a former member of the
Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Moore moved to Denver following marriage and to Longmont in 1962.
He enjoyed golf and oil painting. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Theodore and Lucy (Carroll) Moore and one sister and two half-sisters.
He is survived by: his wife, Elda Mae Hudson Moore of Longmont, CO;
2 sons, Alan Moore and his wife Gail of Milliken, CO and David Moore and
his wife Tannis of Fairmont, NE; and 3 grandchildren, Sean Moore, Caitlin
Moore, and Sally Moore.

Julia Harvelia Hale, 81, of Readhimer, LA , died Thursday, August 31,
2000 at her home in Saline, LA of natural causes. Funeral services were

Elder David Godwin of the Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in Strange Methodist Church Cemetery in Readhimer under

of the old Shreveport Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She was
well known for her service to the Readhimer Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years John Roy Hale,

LA and passed away Saturday, September 2, 2000 at her residence. Funeral
service was Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Edmonds Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Stevenson officiating. Burial was in Antioch
Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
Mrs. Hughes was self-employed.
She is survived by one son, Bo Bates of Quitman, LA; two daughters,
Rickey Bates of Quitman, La and Nell Rose Norred and husband Jack of Jonesboro,
LA; two sisters, Betty Duck and husband J.W. of Quitman and Alice Faye
Mangum and husband Johnny of Memphis, TN; four brothers, Jerry W. Stevenson
and wife Lillian, John Russell (Rusty) Stevenson and wife Karen, L.C. (Bud)
Stevenson and wife Alice Ann all of Quitman, LA and Troy T. Stevenson and
wife Kaye of Tucson, AZ; 7 Grandchildren: Stacey Wilkerson, Todd Lowe,
Amy Lowe, Stephanie Brown, Jackie Norred, Cindy Ingram, & Chad Bates
; and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Hubie Bryant -- Shreveport, LA
Hubie Hilton Bryant, 91 of Shreveport, LA was born July 24, 1909 passed
away Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Christus Schumport. Graveside service
was at Mt. Olive West Saturday, September 2, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
Frank Breithaupt officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive West Cemetery under
the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mr. Bryant was
a fireman.
He is survived by one daughter, Delores Sutton of Shreveport, LA; 3
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Ethel Mae Weeks -- Quitman, LA
Ethel Mae Weeks, 72 of Quitman, LA born March 28, 1928 passed away
Friday, September 1, 2000 at Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services
were Monday, September 4, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Perry Lassiter officiating. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery
under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mrs. Weeks was a retired Weston High School Teacher. She was a very
avid genealogist and love the work around her home and woods. She was preceded
in death by her husband Wilburn Carrell Weeks. The family requests memorials
be made to the Jackson Parish Library.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Earle and husband Bob of Greeley,
CO; one son, W.C. "Bill" Weeks and wife Christie of Jonesboro, LA; one
brother, Jack Freeman and wife Willa of Natchitoches, LA; one sister, Mary
Freeman Mann and husband Horace of Keithville, LA; five grandchildren,
Stephen Weeks, Paul Weeks, Carrell Weeks, Andrew Weeks, and Katie Weeks;
and a host of nieces and nephews.
