Mrs. Elizabeth Irene Leedy, 58, of Jonesboro, LA died August 11, 2000 at Lincoln General Hospital after a lengthy illness. 
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2000 in the Full Gospel Temple with Rev.(s) David Wilson and Jackie Hightower officiating.
Burial will be in the Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
Mrs. Leedy was a Sales Clerk and Department Manager.
She is survived by: her mother, Mary Coleman of Denhan Springs, LA; husband, Paul Leedy, Sr. of Jonesboro; two sons, Paul and Carolyn of Jonesboro and Allen and Betty of Henryetta, OK; three daughters, Donna Frazier and Kenneth and Melda Taylor and Rodger all of Jonesboro, LA and Carla Coleman and Curtis of West Monroe, LA; five brothers, Cosby L. Coleman of Houston, TX, William C. Coleman of Danville, LA, Jerry W. Coleman of Shreveport, LA, Gerald L. Coleman of Denham Springs, LA and Billy D. Coleman of Lucky, LA. Also 16 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. And a host of relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were: Scott Brown, Andy Brown, Chris Coleman, Andrew Coleman, Anthony Denton, and Roger Council.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
Mrs. Leedy is preceded in death by: a daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Leedy; her father, Cosby A. Coleman and a great granddaughter, Miranda Frazier.

Beryl B. Hearne -- Chatham, LA
Beryl Bernice Hearne, 80, of Chatham, LA died Thursday, August 10, 2000 at her residence. 
Funeral services were Saturday, August 12, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the Concord Methodist Church with Bro. Donn Kurtz and Bro. Sam Emanuel officiating. 
Burial was in the Concord Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
She was a retired teacher. She taught in the Jackson Parish School System for 31 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Lynn Self; one grandson, David Self; one granddaughter, Theresa Self all of West Monroe, LA. And two great grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer.
Pallbearers were: Hollis Downs, Robert Hearne, Bobby Meredith, Robert W. Prince, George M. Sarton, and Obie C. Sims Jr.

Don Louis Birdsong, 63, of Jonesboro, LA died Saturday, August 12, 2000 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Funeral services were Monday, August 14, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dwayne Boudreaux and Bro. Collin Wimberly officiating. 
Burial was in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
Mr. Birdsong was a Coordinator and a veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Henry Birdsong and one brother, Charles Henry Birdsong, Jr. 
He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Nell Birdsong of Jonesboro, LA; two sons, Don Louis Birdsong, Jr. and wife, Gina and Michael Wayne Birdsong and wife, Cindy of Coushatta, LA; one brother, Joe Birdsong and wife, Moira of Miami, FL; one niece, Denise Birdsong of Miami, FL; one step son, Randy Stevenson and wife, Lisa of Jonesboro, LA; one step daughter, Sharon Stevenson of Jonesboro, LA; four grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

William Alvin Ramsey, 76, of Chatham, LA died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at his residence.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Burial was in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.
Mr. Ramsey was in the pulpwood industry -self employed and a veteran.
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Marie Ramsey, one son, Jerry Don Ramsey, and three brothers.
He is survived by: three daughters, Tammy Marie Evans, Donna Jean King and husband David, and Mary Elizabeth Pate all of Olla, LA; one son, Thomas Wayne Ramsey and wife, Brenda of Columbia, LA; four sisters, Irene Lowery and husband, John of Choudrant, LA, Marie McCroy of West Monroe, LA, Bessie Mae Ramsey of Jena, LA, and Mildred Taylor and husband, Damon of West Monroe, LA; three brothers, Clifton Ramsey and wife, Lessie of Chatham, LA, Clyde Ramsey of Kelly, LA and Jessie Ramsey and wife, Obeline of Olla, LA, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one on the way.

Allon Gilbert (A. G.) Dark, 87, of Jonesboro died Friday, August 4, 2000 at the Winn Medical Center. Funeral services were 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2000 at Edmonds Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Dark, and Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Dark was a Parish Supervisor.
He is survived by 1 Son; Jerry L. Dark and wife Ruthie of Jonesboro: 2 Daughters; Thelma Ford and husband Mack of Arcadia and Inez Reed and Leonard of Jonesboro: 1 Brother; Felton Dark of Bastrop: 3 Sisters; Linnie Mae Flask of Sacramento, CA, Sybil Hammett of West Monroe, and Leetie Spangler of Winnfield. 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Mr. Dark’s grandsons served as pallbearers.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Beech Springs Baptist Church in Quitman with Bro. Larry Jinks officiating. Burial was in Beech Springs Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Eutha Mae was a homemaker.
She is survived by 1 Daughter: Minnie Pate and husband Hilman of Quitman; 1 Son: Jerry Rasbury and wife Rhonda of Baton Rouge; 1 Sister: Jeanette Kelly of Brewtons Mill, LA; 6 Brothers: Albert Wages of Chatham, Charles Wages of Brewtons Mill, Elisha Wages, Jr. of Winnfield, Jasper Wages of Corbin, KY, Lonnie Wages of Warren, AR, and Ray Wages of Jasper, TX. and 5 Grandchildren. Marvin Neal Poda, 68, of Buchanan Dam, TX died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at home after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2000 with Rev. Johnnie Phillips and Dewayne Boudreaux officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Poda was born May 17, 1932 in Vienna, Louisiana. He retired from Swift & Co. after 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Brown Poda of Buchanan Dam, TX; 1 Son, Jerry Poda of Bedford, TX; 2 Daughters, Sherri Poda Moran of Ft. Worth, TX and Cindy Poda Hilten of Rockdale, TX; 5 Sisters, Mallory King of West Columbia, TX, Ethelle Swanner of West Monroe, LA, Leuna Dyer of Rayville, LA, Nettie Traina of Jonesboro, LA and Derlene Wingert of Ruston, LA and 10 Grandchildren.

John Calahan -- Quitman, LA
John Willie Calahan, 57, of Quitman, LA died on Tuesday, July 25, 2000 in Ruston, LA. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000 at St. Rest Baptist Church, Quitman. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Quitman under the direction of King’s Funeral Home. Mr. Calahan was retired from the U. S. Air Force.

Sidney D. Hinton -- Sulphur, LA
Sidney Delmer Hinton, 77 of Sulphur, LA died January 28, 2000. Mr. Hinton was born Dec. 12, 1922 in Quitman, LA. He served on the USS Melville during WWII. He attended LA Tech and McNeese State University. Mr. Hinton retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. with 35 years of service. He was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge F&AM in Sulphur and the VFW. He spent many years working with the Sulphur Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Hinton; six children, Beverly Petross of CA, Debbie Elkins of FL, Dean Hinton, Francis Bruce, Rodney Hinton and Alesia Compton of Sulphur. 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Levon and Archie Hinton of Quitman and 3 sisters, Louise Bridges and Lona Johnson of Quitman and Earnestine Womack of West Monroe. Memorial services were held in Sulphur and graveside service and burial was held at Antioch Presbyterian Cemetery in Quitman, LA.

Ronald Shelby Knotts, 61, of Castor, LA died Monday, July 24, 2000 in Willis Knighton Pierremont. Funeral services were at Pine Grove Baptist Church Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Martin officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lucky, LA. under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Mr. Knotts was a Toolpusher and a veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly A. Knotts of Castor ; his mother, Vera Knotts of Saline; one son, Daniel Wade Knotts and wife Dewanna of Castor; one daughter, Carmon Michele White and husband Terry of Magnolia, AR; one sister, Margaret Wells and Husband James P. of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Kyle & Malina Sneed and Samantha & Seth Knotts. Pallbearers were his beloved Masonic Brothers from the Ashland & Castor Lodges.

Fowler and wife Frances of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Deborah Fowler, Michael Fowler, and Lori Groce; and five great grandchildren, Kyle Goss, Meghan Fowler, Rebecca Froh, Justin Goss, and Andrew C. Martha Dickerson Greene, 56, a special-education teacher, died Saturday, June 17, 2000 of cancer at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Services were held at Pocahontas Baptist Church, with burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. Mrs. Greene was a native of Jonesboro, LA, and graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from La. Tech University and a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Greene, and her sons, Ramsey Greene of Starkville, MS and Jason Greene of Portland, OR.; her sister, Bobbie Dark and husband Gene of Jonesboro, LA, and nephew, Randy Dark and family of Jonesboro, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. J. and Lillie Dickerson. Memorials may be made to Pocahontas Baptist Church in Clinton, MS.

Benjamin Franklin Ponds, 76, of Fontana, CA, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA following a brief illness. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2000, in Riverside National Cemetery with Rev. Odell Bishop and Rev. J. W. Ponds officiating. Mr. Ponds was buried with military honors. Arrangements were made under the direction of Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, CA.
A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Ponds resided in Fontana for 40 years. He worked as a lumber clerk at Squires Lumber Co. in Colton, CA for 15 years and was Sunday School Superintendent and Associate Pastor at Voice of Faith Ministries for 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Washington Ponds and Mary Allie New Ponds; and one brother, Elmo Raymond Ponds.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Coleman of Jonesboro; Edna Bishop of San Bernadino, CA; and Mary England of Bloomington, CA; four brothers, James Otis Ponds of Pollack, Archie Franklin Ponds of Tullos, Huey Pierce Ponds of Rodeo, CA, and Jimmy Wayne Ponds of Riverside, CA; seven grandchildren, Lori Coleman Woods and Christopher Matthew Coleman of Jonesboro; Michael Eugene Bishop, Jr. and Stephen Odell Bishop of San Bernadino, CA, Benjamin Edward England, Sarah Lynn England, and Philip Aaron England of Bloomington, CA; and one great granddaughter, Autumn Paige Woods of Jonesboro.

James P. Greer -- Quitman, LA
James Pleasant Greer, 84, Quitman, LA, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Christ with Bro. Freddie Shows officiating . Burial was in Siloam Cemetery in Wyatt, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Greer was a carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Crynne Wilson Greer of Quitman; six daughters, Dianne Greer and Dale Gunter and husband Billy of Quitman; Doris Nelson and husband Frank of Bossier City; Audie Peel and husband Wayne of Jonesboro; Debra Scott of Bossier City; Donna Womack and husband Ronnie of Jonesboro. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Michael Shows, Scott Walker, Chad Walker, Shawn Colman, Conrad Allen Broomfield, Jr., Sonny Stephens.

Faye M. Holly -- Chatham, LA
Faye McConnell Holly, 37, Chatham, LA, died Friday, July 14, 2000. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Chatham, LA. Burial was at Collier Cemetery in Chatham under the direction of King’s Funeral Home of Homer, LA. Mrs. Holly was a Beautician and self employed.

Katherine C. Moore --  Jonesboro, LA
Katherine C. Moore, 74, Jonesboro, LA. died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Satellite Rehab Hospital. Funeral service was Thursday, July 13, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Bryan Moore officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Moore was a farmer. She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Davis of Clinton, MS; one son, Robert Moore and wife Phyllis of Jonesboro; two brothers, Henry W. Collins of Vivian, LA and Malcolm Collins and wife Earlene of Winnfield, LA ; four grandchildren, Chris Davis, Will Davis, Isaac Moore, and Michael Moore, all of Winnfield, LA. Winfred Coleman -- Jonesboro, LA
Winfred Cleveland Coleman, 73, of Jonesboro, LA., died Monday, July 3, 2000, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Dark, Jr., Danny Gibson and Earnest Little officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Coleman was a paper stock prop operator.
His survivors include: His wife, Beatrice Coleman of Jonesboro, LA. Two sons: Steve and Terry Coleman of Jonesboro, LA. Two daughters: Sherlyn Caraway of Jonesboro, LA. and June Knox of Hodge, LA. One sister: Helen Council of Quitman, LA. and one brother: Marvin Coleman of Ringgold, LA. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Theo Weeks -- Hammond, LA

Della Culver -- Jonesboro, LA
Della Mae Culver, 86, of Jonesboro, LA., died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Forest Haven Nursing Home. Mr. New was preceded in death by one son, Ernest Dale New.
He is survived by his wife Bernice New of Hodge and three daughters, Ruby Jean Elton, Ruthie Marie Garza, all of Sarepta, LA and Nancy Lee Sparks of Benton, LA; two sons Ray Buck New of Sarepta, LA and Roy Vernor New of Atlanta, TX; two sisters Faye Fields of Lake Charles, LA and Lula Waller of Deridder, LA and one brother Homer New of Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Paul Bradford officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Allen was a bus driver.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, O. K. Allen of Jonesboro; one son, Ricky Allen and wife, Sandra of Weston, LA; one daughter, LaDonna Welch and husband, Greg of West Monroe, LA; two sisters, Pearlie Friday and husband Otto of Bienville, LA, and Mary Ethle Greer of West Monroe, LA; two grandchildren, Jessica and Kyle Allen; and one great grandchild, Jaylan Allen.
