Shooting Leaves Mercer Man Dead
A Mercer County man is dead brother a woman have
been arrested after a shooting early morning in Robertson County.
Steven H. Richardson was pronounced dead at scene shooting
by Robertson County Coroner John “Dusty” Thompson. According to a Kentucky State
Police press release Dry Ridge post received a call early
morning from a Mt. Olivet residence in Robertson County. caller advised that
he had just shot an intruder who had entered residence attacked him.
The caller James Cornett was transported to Meadowview Regional Hospital
where treated for a stab wound released.
The brother shooting victim Charles L. Richardson was d
with first degree wanton endangerment possession a firearm by a convicted
felon tampering with physical evidence. turned over to Robertson
County Transportation Officer. arraignment was scheduled for
morning in Robertson County according to Robertson County Sheriff Randy Insko.
(Details were not available by press time.)
Along with Cornett Regina Baker also was at
residence where Richardson received fatal gunshot wound. She received stab
wounds was taken to a hospital in Cynthiana.
Baker was later arrested for first degree robbery first degree
assault said Insko. Sscheduled for arraignment on morning in
Robertson County. (Details arraignment were not available at press time.)
The case is being investigated by KSP Post with assistance from
Robertson County Sheriff Department.
Richardson resided on North College Street. a construction worker.

Community Loses Longtime Leader
T. C. ‘Bud’ Dedman Dies
One 's most wellknown citizens longtime civic business
leaders Thomas Curry "Bud" Dedman r. July at James B.
Haggin Hospital. Dedman was a longtime owner Beaumont Inn a
founder Fort Harrod Drama Productions.
"The first thing I think is that it's passing a landmark " said
Frances Keightley Moseley a longtime friend. "Bud stood for so many things that
were good for community so many people."
Moseley described Dedman's passing as almost end an age.
"He epitomized an oldfashioned southern gentlemen we didn't have too many
of them left " she said.
"I always found him to be a perfect southern gentleman " said JoEtta Wickliffe
owner president State Bank Trust Company. "He always had a smile
always knew you regardless where you were."
That southern gentleman charm may have been an asset for a man credited with
helping develop tourism in Mercer County. Along with late
Roy Devine late Jane Bird Hutton Gene Royalty Dedman was a founding
Fort Harrod Drama Productions. He as .president for years.
"The tourist trade is number one industry in Harrodsburg a lot that
can be directly credited to what Mr. Bud did with Beaumont Inn " said
Mayor Lonnie Campbell. "a strong supporter
and many civic organizations here. He will be missed."
Campbell who was first lifeguard at Beaumont Inn pool said he has known
Dedman all life. mother was a classmate Dedman's.
His southern hospitality also contributed to making Beaumont Inn an attraction
not just for Dedman family but also for community.
"He did so much for community " said Moseley. "It's hard to put into words.
He meant so much to so many people."
She repeated "It's just as if we've lost a landmark."
Beaumont Inn has been owned operated by Dedman family since . It was
established by Dedman's grandfather late Glave Goodard. Throughout
life Dedman who was owner president proprietor Beaumont Inn worked
to establish Inn as Kentucky's most celebrated hospitality landmark.

Dedman enjoyed sharing memories community and especially during
later years enjoyed meals at Inn. Anyone who stopped by to say hello was
welcome to a story. In an interview inDedman shared memories
Dedman Drug Store which had been purchased by James Harrod Trust under
presidency daughterinlaw Helen. drug store was operated by
grandfather C. M. Dedman later father Thomas Curry Dedman. Later at
an ice cream social/open house Dedman could be found seated inside willing to
share stories when he visited drug store as a child shed light on
Harrodsburg past.
Dedman passed along passion for Inn to son daughterinlaw
Chuck Helen Dedman who currently operate Inn grandson Dixon
who is learning family business working with parents. Chuck Dedman also
is president Fort Harrod Drama Productions.
Dedman a Centre College with a degree in English vas proud that
of children also d from Centre. Dedman hosted class reunions
for fellow s at Beaumont Inn.
Dedman's death will leave a void in community according to at least one
business leader Wickliffe said Dedman had been a customer at State Bank since
before she began years in business. She described him as "an ideal
customer."
"He will certainly be missed by me employees bank community
as a whole " she said.

Man Dies In U.S. Accident
A man Rusty Blake Webb of Ashley Drive was fatally
injured in an accident on U.S. in Jessamine County about p.m. .
Jessamine County Deputy Sheriff Scott Carnes said Webb was traveling west toward
Mercer County near McCauley Pike in Jessamine County when vehicle exited
roadway. Carnes said Webb overcorrected vehicle it crossed
centerline exited off road struck a telephone pole tree.
Webb was pronounced dead at scene by Jessamine County Coroner Bobby Ballard.
She said he from multiple blunt force injuries.
His vehicle was severely damaged in mishap Carnes said.

Local Shooting Leaves One Dead Injured
Gunshots rang out at. Stone Manor Motel in an apparent domestic
violence case that ended with one dead wounded.
Scott Clark of Anderson County apparently barged into Room at Stone
Manor shooting estranged wife Melissa Clark times friend
Tommy Hurst Jr. of once in arm.
Clark then turned mm handgun on himself fired Sgt. Det.
Garry Bradshaw said.
When Clark entered room just minutes after wife arrived there to meet
Hurst apparently holding his wife's yearold son in arm
said Police Chief Ernie Kelty. Police are not certain where child was during
the shootings that followed but Bradshaw said child witnessed
shootings.
The child has been placed with family s he added.
Clark was pronounced dead at scene atp.m. by Mercer County Coroner
Sonny Ransdell. Ransdell said Clark a gunshot wound to chest.
Clark's wife Hurst were transported to James B. Haggin
Hospital. Hurst was treated released afternoon. Mrs. Clark was
airlifted to University Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington atp.m.
where she underwent surgery. Sshot in forearm upper chest
stomach. Bradshaw reported slisted in stable condition morning.
An aunt Angie Carr Lawrenceburg said Mrs. Clark carne through surgery at
a.m. was moved to a private room. Carr said Mrs. Clark's spleen
part pancreas had been removed.
After Scott Clark shot Hurst Hurst escaped from room ran to motel
office where Stone Manor manager Nilesh Bhavsar called atp.m.
When Hurst returned Mrs. Clark had already been shot was exiting motel
room said Bradshaw. Scott Clark then turned gun on himself fired
final fatal shot.
The sound last shot caught attention construction workers
staying a few doors down. One those workers Allen Maddox who is from
said he had worked night before so he slept morning
waking sometime after noon hour. He said he roommate both heard a
shot. Maddox doesn't re hearing any other shots but he did hear a child
"screaming crying."
Maddox came out room not noticing anything at first. Then he saw
crying child in parking lot bloody woman exiting room. child
was crying that “mama” had been shot. Maddox’s roommate picked child up
and headed toward office to call for help but saw hotel manager making
the call.
Police were on scene within minutes.
On afternoon Kelty said investigation preliminary
stages but that they believed that Mrs. Clark had only been at motel for a
few minutes when estranged husband arrived. Police believe he followed
to motel.
Scott Clark drove a red Blazer with Franklin County plates to scene.
The Blazer belongs to Jessica Hurst ex-wife Tommy Hurst Jr. Mrs. Clark was
in a red van with Anderson County plates.

The -year-old son a woman was fatally injured in an accidental
shooting in Garrard County aboutp.m. .
Brandon Lee Grubbsof Danville son Tammy Cheatham Grubbs
was pronounced dead at a residence at New Haven Road.
Garrard County Deputy Coroner Mike Dixon said Grubbs from an accidental
selfinflicted single gunshot wound to head. "According to witnesses he
was playing with gun " Dixon said.
Dixon was at scene along with Kentucky State Police Det. Christopher

Invalid Woman Dies In Fire At Berkshire Apartments
An invalid woman last night Sept. after fire swept
through apartment at Berkshire Apts. N. College St.
Wanda Coleman was pronounced dead at James B. Haggin Hospital
by emergency room physician.
Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell said cause death was smoke
inhalation.
Also residing in apartment was David Pemberto who escaped
blaze uninjured.
Apparently Coleman who had one leg amputated above knee was trapped
inside could not escape. body was found in front bedroom said
Assistant Fire Chief Monty Trower.
firefighters responded to fire call atp.m.
firefighters got Coleman out apartment began CPR until she could be
transported to hospital.
Trower said cause fire appears to be accidental apparently
started in a small sofa in front apartment. Both Coleman Pemberto
were heavy smokers he said.
The apartment had a lot heat smoke damage said Trower. area
around sofa where fire is believed to have originated was most
severely burned or damaged by fire.
Most damage to apartment complex was contained to Coleman's
five-room apartment said firefighter Joe Monroe. However whole
building did receive some smoke damage especially apartment above
Coleman's.
On state fire marshall conducted an investigation as is
required when there is a fatality. case was turned back over to
Fire Department.
Approximately firefighters were called to scene department
was on site for approximately hours.

County Judge-Executive Loses Battle With Cancer
Mercer County Judge-Executive Charlie McGinnis lost long battle with
cancer . He at residence.
Despite being in final stages illness McGinnis attended
presided at Sept. meeting Mercer County Fiscal Court.
”I’ve never seen anyone fight such a gallant fight go on fulfilling
his obligations as county judge. a joy to work with fiscal court
has functioned well under leadership ” said Bill Waggener senior
the Mercer County Fiscal Court.
Others echoed Waggener’s comments. Gayle Horn who serves as county
treasurer as judge pro-tem said McGinnis was a conservative manager
county’s finances had ability to understand budget laws
pertaining to county government. “He always did what he thought was right even
when it was not popular. He worked well with fiscal court patient
and fair with all employees. Charlie cared about all citizens this
county strived to bring government to all people to do what he could
to make their lives better ” Horn said.

known Charlie as a person to have had privilege working with him. He
will truly be missed ” Horn said.
County Attorney Doug Greenburg praised McGinnis” knowledge county
government. “He had a great grasp all details how county government
operated very easy enjoyable to work with to make county
government work as well as it did. a devoted family man to wife
mother sons truly cared for them. He showed a great deal courage
with illness. an inspiration to all us on how to live a life with
the situations we’re put into ” Greenburg said.
“Charlie was a very unique person who could show a great deal
compassion to peoples’ needs wants problems he tried to solve them
best he could. a good leader will be missed by a lot people. He
was able to bring diverse groups together to communicate solve problems ”
Greenburg added.
Mercer County Clerk Bruce Harper praised McGinnis for commitment to
the county. “I think we’ve lost a great citizen a great leader in our
community. Charlie was very committed to people Mercer County took
the job judge-executive very seriously ” Harper said.
“Charlie was a good friend mine will be missed by our county ” said
Mayor Lonnie Campbell.

Mercer Man Dies In Farm Accident In Marion County
Evann White of Perryville Street was fatally injured in an accident
in Marion County.
Marion County Coroner J. R. Moraja said White from internal chest
injuries caused by compression when he became caught between bucket cab
of a front-end loader.
White had been doing fencing work on a farm was taking loader back
to a barn when accident happened. “It happened when trying to open
a gate or after he opened gate got back on loader -- we aren’t sure
exactly how it happened ” coroner said.
White’s uncle other people working on farm were about
yards away when accident occurred Moraja said.

customers along U.S. corridor from Lincoln County to fringe

Rowland known as an unpretentious man set about establishing foundations
and trusts for benefit others. multi-million dollar scholarship

and Boyle County. This perpetual fund will continue to advance education through
the “Rowland Family Scholar-ships.” “Charitable Fund ” administered through
the Louisville Community Foundation has been used to make grants to public

Man Dies In Truck Train Collision
Jimmy Turpin of Hopewell Road was fatally injured night when a truck
driving was struck by a train at crossing on Jackson Pike miles
north .
Deputy Mercer County Coroner Scott Moseley pronounced Turpin dead at
scene atp.m. said he from multiple trauma.
Turpin was eastbound on Jackson Pike apparently attempted to cross
railroad crossing when a train was approaching. train struck Turpin’s
vehicle resulting in fatal injuries to Turpin severe damage to vehicle.
According to a report filed by Kentucky State Reconstructionist Trooper
C.R. Hall a preliminary investigation indicated all railroad warning
equipment was working properly prior to collision. “At this time there is
no foul play or alcohol suspected. investigation is ongoing ” Hall said in
the report.
Moseley said train conductor said traveling recommended
speed for grade area that lights bells at crossing
seemed to be working when accident occurred.
While there were no witnesses to accident Moseley said when emergency
rescue officials arrived at scene lights bell warnings were working
at crossing.

Mercer Man Dies In Tractor Accident
A Mercer County man Houston Robertson of Stratton Road was
killed in a accident when a tractor driving flipped over.
Mercer County Deputy Coroner Scott Moseley said Robertson was attempting
to use tractor to pull a truck that was stuck on an incline on farm .The
tractor flipped over Robertson was thrown from it.
Mosley said one Robertson’s grandsons witnessed accident
Mercer County Emergency Medical Service was called to scene atp.m.
Moseley pronounced Robertson dead at scene atp.m. He said
Robertson suffered some general blunt face trauma that cause death
was a skull fracture.
Robertson was retired from state Cabinet Human Resources -
Department Medicare.

Mercer Man Dies From Heart Attack
Bobby G. Beasley of Fallis Run Road apparently suffered a fatal
heart attack prior to wrecking vehicle atp.m. Nov. on Hwy. in
Mercer County.
Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell said Beasley was wearing a seatbelt
and had no significant injuries from accident. Ransdell ruled cause
death as a heart attack suffered prior to accident. Beasley was transferred
to James B. Haggin Hospital by Mercer EMS was pronounced
dead at hospital emergency room.
According to a report filed by Mercer County Deputy Sheriff Rick Moberly
Beasley drove off right side roadway into a ditch then ran into a
fence tree. There was severe damage to vehicle damage to fence
on property Harvey Duncan.
