The Ohio County native formerly worked at S & H Green Stamp Store, Jim Martin Paint Store and in the maintenance department at Towne Square Mall. He was also a self-employed painter, was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed playing the guitar and the French harp.

WESTVIEW -- Sadie Ellen Anderson, 79, of Westview died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Medco Center in Hardinsburg. The Breckinridge County native was a housewife and a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Schumacker.

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Raymond Berger, 90, of Rockport, Ind., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Fulda, Ind., native was a farmer and a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. His wife, Gertrude Berger, died in 1991.

CENTRAL CITY -- Thelma Elizabeth Reed, 88, of Central City died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston, Mo. She was a Daviess County native.

E.J. 'Shorty' Phillips
E.J. "Shorty" Phillips, 90, 301 E. 20th St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Reynolds Station native retired from General Electric Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the church's K.P. Sunday school class. His wife, Betty Mayrene Phillips, died Sept. 17, 1998.

Druzella 'Dru' Nelson
MADISONVILLE -- Druzella "Dru" Nelson, 88, of Madisonville died there Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Regional Medical Center. The McLean County native was a cook and server for North Hopkins High School and a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Nortonville Chapter 243 and a charter member of Order of Eastern Star Hanson Chapter 53, where she held the office of marshal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin David Nelson, on Dec. 22, 1981; and a son, Ellis Ray Nelson.

PIEDMONT, Ala. -- Evelyn Gregory, 81, of Piedmont died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala. The Piedmont native was a member of Piedmont Congregational Holiness Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 60 years.

Lucy H. Gabbert
Lucy H. Gabbert, 100, of 716 Daviess St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Riverside Manor Nursing Home in Calhoun. The McLean County native was the assessor for the city of Owensboro from 1939-1969. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Acacia Chapter. Her husband, Arthur W. Gabbert, died in 1939.

CENTRAL CITY -- Linda Joyce Duvall, 52, of Central City died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Evansville native was a member of South Carrollton Missionary Baptist Church.

Zachary Joseph Brinksneader
TELL CITY, Ind. -- Zachary Joseph Brinksneader, 3-month-old son of Randy and Mary Kay Brinksneader of Tell City, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City. He was an Evansville native.

ELKTON -- Venna Tolson, 75, of Elkton died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at her home. The Todd County native was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from South Central Bell. Her husband, James J. Tolson, died in January 2000.

James W. Wells
James W. Wells, 85, of 2547 Strawbridge Place, Owensboro, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Breckinridge County native retired as a supervisor from Murphy-Miller Chair Co. after 23 years and later worked at S.W. Anderson Co. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Macedonia Baptist Church and a volunteer at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. He was a Sunday school teacher and an Army veteran. A daughter, Pat Terry, died in February 1988.

Margaret Young
TELL CITY, Ind. -- Margaret Young, 80, of Tell City, formerly of Cannelton, Ind., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at her home. The Tell City native was a self-employed accountant and bookkeeper for more than 45 years. She was a member of American Legion Post 213 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 auxiliaries. 

Jerry W. Noble
TELL CITY, Ind. -- Jerry W. Noble, 86, of Tell City died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Newburgh Health Care Center in Newburgh, Ind. The Cloverport native was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He flew 35 missions in a B-17 in Europe and also served in Japan. He and his brother founded the former Noble's Market, now Noble's IGA. He was a Protestant, a Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan and an animal lover. 

Levern S. Freeman
CANNELTON, Ind. -- Levern S. Freeman, 81, of Cannelton died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Ind. The Hancock County native retired as a dietitian from Perry County Memorial Hospital after 30 years. She was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, flowers and raising canaries. Her husband, Malcolm Freeman, died in 1992 and a daughter, Betty J. Stephens, died in 1986.

ROCHESTER -- James Christian Cummings, 8 months, of Rochester died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at his home. He was a native of Gulfport, Miss.

Arnold Lee Crowe
Arnold Lee Crowe, 88, of 815 Parkway Drive, Owensboro, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Ohio County native retired as a scarfer from Green River Steel after 16 years and was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church. He played croquet, won several tournament championships and enjoyed hunting rabbit and squirrel, fishing and reading the Bible. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Colleen Crowe, on July 16, 1996, and by a daughter, Peggy Crowe.

Beverly Ann Chancellor
CLOVERPORT -- Beverly Ann Chancellor, 62, of Bowling Green died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Cloverport native was a member of Morgantown Church of Christ and lived in Topeka, Kan., for 30 years.

Josephine Shocklee Baird
CALHOUN -- Josephine Shocklee Baird, 87, of Calhoun died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Livermore native retired as a teacher from Daviess County Public Schools. She taught at Utica and Snyder schools, was a member of Utica Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, traveling and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Louis Baird, on Dec. 19, 1971, and a son, Jerry Allen Baird.

Gracie Louise Pharris
ROSINE -- Gracie Louise Maze Pharris, 75, of Rosine died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Rosine native retired from Thomas Industries. She was formerly a cook at Sheffields Restaurant in Beaver Dam and was a member of Rosine Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daymon Pharris, on Oct. 19, 1994, and a son, Donald Pharris.

Marlin O. Fletcher
SELVIN, Ind. -- Marlin O. Fletcher, 66, of Selvin died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at his home. The Fredonia native served in the Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. He was a coal miner, worked for Energy Supply and was a member of American Legion Post 200. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Fletcher.
