BEAVER DAM -- Gladys Melton, 84, of Powderly died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Clay County native was a housewife and a member of Taylormine United Baptist Church near Beaver Dam. Her husband, Corbin Melton Sr., died Feb. 20, 1993.

Loretta McLaughlin McCrady
Loretta McLaughlin McCrady, 63, of Philpot died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The McLean County native retired as a secretary in the land department of Texas Gas after 25 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed NASCAR, writing poetry and songs and poodles.

Robert Eugene Johnson, 68, of Philpot died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Louisville. The Daviess County native was a farmer and worked at the Robert Pence farm for 35 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and formerly worked at the A.C.S. Office. He was a former baseball coach at Trinity High School and enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. A stepson, Allen Shane Nichols, died in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Levy Lanham Sr.; by her second husband, Charles Hines; and by a son, Donald Ray Lanham.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Charles A. Schreiber Jr., 66, of Tell City died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at his home of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The Tell City native owned and operated Schreiber Drugs and was a member and past president of Lincoln Trails Retrievers Club. He was a member of Tell City Historical Society, Hoosier Heights Country Club, American Pharmaceutical Association and Moose Lodge 1424. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Purdue Alumni Association.

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- Roy Donald "Don" Cunningham, 57, of Old Hickory, formerly of Daviess County, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tenn. The Mount Juliet, Tenn., native was employed at DuPont for 36 years and was a graduate of Daviess County High School. He was a member of Mount Juliet Lodge 642 and Old Hickory Country Club and was an avid golfer.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Michele Diane Sallee, 17, of Elizabethtown died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. The Hardin County native was a senior at Central Hardin High School and a member of Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church.

Ada Lee Thompson, 76, of Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired from the Cigar Factory and General Electric and was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and games. Her husband, Carl Leo Thompson, died in November 1998.

The Rockport, Ind., native retired from George Koch and Sons in 1984 and was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church in Evansville and American Legion Post 254. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving on the USS Fredrick Lunston and completing six invasions in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lee Niles, in 1952; and a daughter, Jolene Niles, in 1957.

The Danville native retired as western Kentucky sales representative from Commerce Clearing House and attended Century Christian Church. He was former mayor of Marion and a member of Grand Lodge of Kentucky F. & A.M. Bigham Lodge 256 and Rizpah Temple. He was a Shriner clown and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Patsy Allen Case, 63, of Kissimmee, formerly of Owensboro, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Osceola Regional Medical Center. The Daviess County native retired as a registered nurse from Charter Hospital of Orlando Psychiatric Hospital after six years. She also worked at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital in the mental health unit and graduated from Henderson Community College in 1978. She was a Methodist and enjoyed spending time with family and traveling.

The Hancock County native was a member of Lewisport Baptist Church and the Bible learners Sunday school class. She attended Western State Teachers College and taught in rural Hancock County schools for seven years. Her husband, Melvin Earl Young Sr., died June 9, 1985.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and was a Reitz High School graduate. Her first husband, Robert F. Higdon, died in 1988.

The Daviess County native retired as a supervisor from the postal service after 27 years. He graduated from Owensboro High School in 1943 and from the University of Evansville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. New Orleans. He was a Christian and enjoyed making violins.

The Daviess County native was a member of Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Elba. She was a member and a past president of Cumberland Presbyterian Women and was a church elder. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed sewing, embroidery, needlework and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur "Pete" Taylor, on Jan. 28, 1994; and by two sons, Donald Taylor in May 1999 and Earl Taylor on Feb. 18, 2000.
