Mattie Mae Dixon Morris

Mattie Mae Dixon Morris, 85, Henderson, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Methodist Hospital.

She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, where she served on the Mothers Board.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, including Cassandra Happoldt, Gloria Boyd, Anthony Boyd, Solomon Dudley and Aaron Hamilton, all of Henderson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Walnut Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. David Green will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Tapp Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Lucille Myers Logel

Lucille Myers Logel, 93, Henderson, formerly of Poole and Dixon, died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Redbanks nursing home.

She had worked as a salesclerk at Davidson's Men's Wear in Mount Vernon, Ind., for many years. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include one son, William Bridwell of Florida; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Lebanon Cemetery near Dixon. The Rev. John D. Conn will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Gathering Place or the Henderson Regional Hospital Foundation.

Robert O. "Bucky" Fritts 

Robert O. "Bucky" Fritts, 69, Henderson, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center's Welborn Campus in Evansville.

Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Stone of Henderson; one son, Larry Wayne Fritts of Webster County; two sisters, Lilly Sutton and Ruby Yates, both of Henderson; his companion, Mary Fritts of Webster County; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Revs. Randy Williams, Gaylon Cunningham and Thorton Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Old Cedar Grove Cemetery in Webster County.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Wolf, Brian Wolf, Wesley Wolf, Dalan Stanley, Strother Sutton and Danny Patmore.

Ruth E. Floyd 

Ruth E. Floyd, 83, Corydon, died at 3:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.

She was a member of Dixie United Methodist Church. Her sister, Altha Gipson, also died at 1:52 p.m. Monday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.O. "Duck" Floyd, who died Dec. 30, 1979.

Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Lain Duncan of Niagara; two sisters, Lillian Chandler and Louise Yates, both of Henderson; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tapp Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Altha Gipson 

Altha Gipson, 90, Henderson, died at 1:52 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She attended Hyland Baptist Church. Her sister, Ruth E. Floyd, died at 3:50 a.m. Monday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Gipson, who died in 1994.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Betty Cannon of Indianapolis; four stepsons, Harlan Gipson of Plainsville, Ind., Joe Gipson of Greenwood, Ind., Bailey Gipson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Will Gipson of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Lillian Chandler and Louise Yates, both of Henderson; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are pending at Tapp Funeral Home.

James Bushrod 

James Bushrod, 79, Henderson, died at 6:38 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was a retired truck driver for Melvin Blue Trucking Co.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ella Louise Gibbs Bushrod of Henderson; two sisters, Etta Lester of Jamaica, N.Y., and Velma Cabell of Henderson; two brothers, Lorenzo "Bobby" Bushrod of Chicago and David Bushrod of Evansville; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mason Brothers Audubon Chapel in Henderson. The Rev. Chester Hatchett will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dexter Alan Hancock 

Dexter Alan Hancock, 33, Henderson, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Medco Nursing Center of Henderson due to cancer.

He was a member of Norris Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Gabriel Green and Megan Green, both of Henderson; one son, Allen Green of Henderson; his mother, Shirley Hancock of Henderson; five sisters, Catherine Gray, Sylvia Cansler, Darlene Hancock and Sherry Hancock, all of Henderson, and Grace Wilson of Houston; four bothers, William "Bill" Hancock, John Hancock and Don Hancock, all of Henderson, and Eugene Hancock of Nashville, Tenn.; his grandmother, Minnie O. Jones of Henderson; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Osborne-Reeder Funeral Home in Henderson. The Rev. Wendell Gathings will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas "Tom" G. Berry

MORGANFIELD -- Thomas "Tom" G. Berry, 77, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home here of a heart attack.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Betty; six daughters, Pam Newman of Henderson, Margaret Gatten of Sturgis, Gina Berry of Murray, Ellen Brown of Danville, Ky., Beth Wells of Cambridge, Wis., and Amy Berry of Madison, Wis.; three sons, Thomas A. Berry and Michael Berry, both of Morganfield, and Patrick Berry of Sturgis; three sisters, Christine Hammonds of Boling Brook, Ill., Jean Gurkowski of Lyons, Ill., and Katherine Spicer of Saginaw, Mich.; three brothers, Raymond Berry of Shepardsville, Ky., Clarence "Ed" Berry of Westmont, Ill., and William Berry of Franklin Park, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Kathryn Greenwell

MORGANFIELD -- Mary Kathryn Greenwell, 86, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home here.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganfield and was a sales clerk at Morganfield Tot Shop for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Sam; one daughter, Sandra Greenwell of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Zack Greenwell of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Mickey Greenwell of Germany; one sister, Jane McKee of Marianna, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Morganfield. The Revs. David Bratcher and Mark Galloway will officiate.

Friends may call from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield.

Virginia Lynch Lindle

STURGIS -- Virginia Lynch Lindle, 68, Sturgis, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield due to cancer.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sturgis. She was co-owner of Lindle Brothers Grocery Store in Sturgis.

Survivors include her husband, Poss; one son, Rance Lindle of Sturgis; one sister, Jean L. Kennemore of Mayfield, Ky.; one grandchild; and two nieces.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral home in Sturgis. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Velma Holt Simpson

STURGIS -- Velma Holt Simpson, 87, Sturgis, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.

She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Holt Jr., who died in 1939, and by her second husband, Leiter H. Simpson, who died in 1978.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Holt Chapman of Sturgis; two sons, Kenneth D. Holt of Sturgis and William J. Holt Sr. of Murray; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bert Owen will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis is charge of arrangements.

Lillian Loraine Stover

OBION, Tenn. -- Lillian Loraine Stover, 97, Obion, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Union City Residential Care Center in Union City, Tenn.

She was a homemaker and member of New Chapel Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden.

Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Stover Boyd and Grace Odle, both of Henderson; one sister, Cammie Stover of Dyersburg, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Chapel Methodist Church in Elbridge, Tenn. The Rev. Dale Mills will officiate. Burial will be in Elbridge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion.

Pallbearers will be Jack Orr, Joe Odle, Odie B. Stover Jr., Ryan Rizen, Tim Brauer and Ray Keeling.

Myrtle Marie Ratley 

Myrtle Marie Ratley, 70, Henderson, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her home due to cancer. 

A member of First Assembly of God, she was an avid doll collector and homemaker, and she also enjoyed yard work. 

Survivors include three daughters, Connie Sue Abell, Dorothy Ann Hager and Frances Gail Hager, all of Henderson; three sons, Rowdy Michael Ratley, J. Jay Ratley and Thomas Phillip Hager, all of Henderson; one sister, Juanita Aldridge of Henderson; one brother, Curtis Donald Stone of St. Amant, La.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

Private services will be held today at Tapp Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. 

There will be no visitation.

Keith Michael "Mike" Brown 

Keith Michael "Mike" Brown, 39, Corydon, died at 6:06 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center. 

He was an employee of Rideout's Wrecker Service. 

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two daughters, Stacey Brown and Tiffany Brown, both of Corydon; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and David Williams of Poole; two brothers, Kenny Brown of Niagara and Alan Brown of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Todd will officiate.

Austin Adkins 

MADISONVILLE -- Austin Adkins, 87, Madisonville, died at 5:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. 

A member of Silent Run Baptist Church in Hopkins County, he was a farmer and a Hopkins County school bus driver for for many years. 

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Mae Adkins, who died in 1946. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Adkins; two daughters, Wanda Beeney of Madisonville and Glenda Vanmatre of Nebo; three sisters, Rosie Walker of Madisonville, Laura Howton of Nebo and Frances Traylor of Princeton, Ky.; one brother, James Adkins of Nebo; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Silent Run Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in Silent Run Cemetery in Hopkins County. 

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today, Thursday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, and after noon Thursday at the church. 

Nancy Mitchell 

CLAY -- Nancy Mitchell, 97, Clay, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh, Ind. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clay and of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed playing bridge. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, who died in 1971. 

Survivors include nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. The Rev. Bob White will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.

RINEYVILLE, Ky. -- Geneva Robards, 72, Rineyville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Woodland Terrace Health Care in Elizabethtown. 

She was a member of Vine Grove United Methodist Church in Vine Grove, Ky., where she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Golden Circle. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Hunt. 

Survivors include her husband, James Merton Robards; one son, Paul Hunt of Sumter, S.C.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vine Grove United Methodist Church. The Revs. Chris Howlett and Charles Kiser will officiate.

She was a realtor for Herron Auction and Realty. 

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Lewis; one daughter, Kelly Olberding of Reed; one son, Mark Sheets of Michigan; one sister, Brenda Perry of Sturgis; one brother, David Caudill of Sturgis; one grandson; nieces and nephews.

Wanda Lee Kerr 

Wanda Lee Kerr, 76, Henderson, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Methodist Hospital. 

She was of the Baptist faith. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, who died in 1992. 

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Johnson, Nancy Thurman and Sandy Risinger, all of Henderson; two brothers, Carl Hall of Henderson and Thomas Hall of Carson City, Nev.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

William H. Dunford 

MORGANFIELD -- William H. Dunford, 66, Morganfield, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Union County due to cancer. 

He had served 16 years in the U.S. Army and was retired from Island Creek Coal Company. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, who died in 1983. 

Survivors include one son, Marcus T. Dunford of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sisters, Donna Lester of Woodbridge, Va., Grace Lester of Stafford, Va., and Wilma L. Southerland of Palm Bay, Fla.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. Sam Belo will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Dollye Litchfield 

CLAY -- Dollye Litchfield, 91, Clay, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Regina's Continuing Care Center in Evansville. 

She was a Baptist. 

Survivors include two grandsons; two great-grandsons; and two great-great-grandchildren. 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Burial will be in Blackford Cemetery in Blackford, Ky.

Glenn Wilkerson 

MARION, Ky. -- Glenn Wilkerson, 30, Marion, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Paducah. 

Survivors include his father, Billy Wilkerson of Henderson; his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Doug Williams, both of Marion; one sister, Sarah Riley of Marion; one half-sister, Rebecca Wilkerson of Henderson; one brother, Jeremy "Ko" Wilkerson of Marion; and his grandparents, Earl and Pauline Rittenberry of Marion. 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. The Revs. Lloyd Harris and Jack Dodson will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery in Marion.
