Georgia Elizabeth "Liz" Reeder Johnson

Georgia Elizabeth "Liz" Reeder Johnson, Henderson, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Methodist Hospital.

She was owner and operator of Reeder Funeral Home for more than 53 years and was a member of the American and National Funeral Directors Association.

She was a member of Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church, where she was the founder of All-Youth Day and a past member of the senior choir. She had been a member of the Rebecca Chapter No. 7, Order of Eastern Star, for more than 50 years and was a Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tellman D.

Survivors include two sisters, Grace Brawley of Evansville and Vivian Simmons of Louisville; one stepsister, Elizabeth Hatchett Johnson of Evansville; nieces and nephews. Local survivors include one aunt, Dora Collins of Henderson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Wendell L. Gathings will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Lana Brown Westerfield

Lana Brown Westerfield, 38, Henderson, formerly of Morganfield, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Methodist Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Randall; one daughter, Shonda Scales of Henderson; four sons, Jason Scales, Christopher Scales, Patrick Scales and Corey Scales, all of Henderson; her mother, Lucille Brown of Morganfield; four sisters, Renee Brown, Sabrina Hansbrough and Natasha Brown, all of Morganfield, and Patricia Newman of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Timothy Brown of Morganfield; nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. 

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ilene Gatten

STURGIS -- Ilene Gatten, 78, Sturgis, died at 2:28 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.

A member of First Presbyterian Church for 50 years, she had retired from the Union County school system after 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Buster, who died in 1990.

Survivors include one daughter, Polly Lou Voss of Sturgis; one son, Charles "Bussie" Gatten of Sturgis; one sister, Polly Holt of Sturgis; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Revs. Jeff Ellis and John Conn will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. 

Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis.

Edward S. Turner

SEBREE -- Edward S. Turner, 62, Dixon, died at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home here.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include one son, James Edward Turner of Elkton, Ky; three daughters, Carolyn Turner, Betty Turner and Debbie Turner, all of Elkton; one sister, Katherine Puckett of Dixon; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dixon. The Rev. Bob Fulcher will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon is in charge of arrangements. 
 

Joseph E. Barker Sr.

EVANSVILLE -- Joseph E. Barker Sr., 73, Evansville, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Columbia Health Care Center here.

He was retired from Arkla/Preway Industries and had formerly worked at Swift and Co. and Servel. 

A disabled World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Philippines Independent Ribbon, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Barker Jr. of Evansville; four sisters, Alice Alvey of Henderson, Mary Catherine Crowdus of Morganfield, Elizabeth Schmitt of Newburgh, Ind., and Louise Bordua of Arlington, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville. Burial will be in St. Peter's Church Cemetery in Waverly.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bertha Christine "Chris" Collins

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Bertha Christine "Chris" Collins, 80, formerly of Sturgis, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at her home here.

She was a member of St. Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarksville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Mutt."

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Ralston of Clarksville; two sisters, Nell Allen and Elizabeth Kincaid, both of Evansville; and one brother, Joe Blackburn of Sturgis; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Don Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Timothy Shawn Darnell

Timothy Shawn Darnell, 27, Robards, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 in Los Angeles while visiting friends.

He was employed at Days Inn in Henderson.

Survivors include his mother, Cindy Bowley Darnell of Robards; his father, Jack Darnell of Evansville; and his grandparents, Paul and Ann Bowley of Robards.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Springdale Cemetery in Sebree. The Rev. Clyde Babb will officiate.

Frankie Charles Lewis

CLAY -- Frankie Charles Lewis, 55, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 at his home here.

He was a member of Blackford Baptist Church in Blackford, Ky.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Barbara; one daughter, Pam Oakley of Providence; one son, James Lewis of Germany; one granddaughter; and one stepgranddaughter.

Arrangements are pending at Vanover Funeral home in Clay.

Frances Elizabeth Powell

INDIANAPOLIS -- Frances Elizabeth Powell, 84, Indianapolis, formerly of Corydon, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was a member of Allen Chapel Apostolic Church in Indianapolis and a housekeeper for various homes.

Survivors include three children, Howard, Glin and Patricia; two sisters, Cornelia McKissick and Anna Watson; two brothers, Everitt Powell and Clarence Powell; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. 

Services will be at noon Saturday at Boatright Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Francis Ware

Mary Francis Ware, 89, Henderson, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Redbanks nursing home.

A retired cook from Gateway Motel and Holiday Motel, she was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and its Usher Board.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Ware and Phillip Ware.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Ware, Charles Holloway and Mark Bowman, all of Henderson; one niece; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Anthony M. Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Helene "Chris" Barnett

Helene "Chris" Barnett, 62, Henderson, died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. "Red" Jr., who died in May 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty J. Brown and Penny C. Wise, both of Magee, Miss.; one son, Charles W. Barnett of Reed; three brothers, Hans Bosten, KarlHeins Bosten and HansJosepf Bosten, all of Germany; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are pending at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
 

Myrtle Daniels

NEWBURGH, Ind. -- Myrtle Daniels, 91, Newburgh, died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Woodland Nursing Center here.

Formerly of Madisonville, she was a Christian.

Survivors include five daughters, Betty Omer, Barbara Sellers, Peggy Wilhite and Sandra Julian, all of Evansville, and Dorothy Buchanan of Madison, Ind.; two sons, Clarance Daniels of Henderson and Roger Daniels of Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Ethel Stevens of Indianapolis; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Evansville.

Ernest A. "Ernie" Williams

Ernest A. "Ernie" Williams, 65, Henderson, died at 7:13 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at his home.

A Presbyterian, he attended Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville. He had worked at Spencer Chemical and was retired from Alcan Aluminum.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Peggy; one daughter, Olivia King of Henderson; one son, Al Williams of Robards; and one sister, Greta Puryear of Henderson. 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. David Niednagel will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Williams, John Berrong, James Wade McGrail, Allan Eyre, Raymond Morton, Tony Minton, James Wallace and Morris Lee.

Harold Floyd

Harold Floyd, 73, Henderson, died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Medco Center of Henderson.

He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Vanessa Darlene Haine of Henderson and Angela Nauerette of South Carolina; three sisters, Shirley Moore of Henderson, Elizabeth McCormick of Sebree and Ernestine Robards of Misawaka, Wis.; one brother, John Floyd of Henderson; one grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral home. The Rev. Leo Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.

Frances Gibson Priest

Frances Gibson Priest, 91, Henderson, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Medco Center of Henderson. 

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and of the Dorcas Sunday School class. A Kentucky Colonel, she was the assistant postmaster and postmaster of Hebbardsville for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pruitt Priest, who died in 1970.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Davis of Hebbardsville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Joby Tricquet will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Hallie Odom

MORGANFIELD -- Hallie Odom, 71, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday Sept. 12, 1999, at her home here.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Odom, who died in 1994; and one son, Ronnie Odom, who died in 1948.

Survivors include three daughters, Vicki Gray, Debbie Buckman and Sandy Odom, all of Morganfield; three sons, Mike Odom and Dennis Odom, both of Morganfield, and the Rev. Kenneth Odom of Marion, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Revs. Mark Galloway and Kenneth Odom will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield.

Bertha Jane Hill

CLAY -- Bertha Jane Hill, 64, Clay, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville due to complications from a stroke.

A member of New Hopewell Baptist Church, she was a caregiver for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Hill, who died in 1985.

Survivors include three brothers, John Watson of Henderson, Jim Watson of Evansville and G.W. Watson of Herrin, Ill.; five nieces and one nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. The Rev. Tommy Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.

Hazel J. Gobin

PROVIDENCE -- Hazel J. Gobin, 84, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at her home here.

She was a member of Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Gobin.

Survivors include her husband, Virg H. Gobin; one daughter, Ruth Childers of Providence; three sons, Johnny Gobin, Kenneth Gobin and Terry Gobin, all of Providence; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Funeral Home in Providence. The Revs. Barry Cullen and Don Cottrell will officiate. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Shady Grove, Ky.

Eldridge Murrell Montgomery Sr.

DANVILLE, Ky -- Eldridge Murrell Montgomery Sr., 79, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 at his home here.

A member of First Christian Church, he was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He was retired from the Navy Reserves as a Commander and received a Bronze Star.

A retired dentist, he was a 50-year member of the Kentucky Dental Association and American Dental Association, member and former president of Bluegrass Dental Society, former member and president of Danville Lions Club and was responsible for getting fluoride added to the Danville Water System. 

Survivors include his wife, Edith; three daughters, Linda Estes of Henderson, Carole Montgomery of Evansville and Mary Coffman of Elkins, W. Va.; one son, Eldridge M. Montgomery Jr. of Danville; one sister, Julia Lois Monroe of Falmouth, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 5 p.m. today at First Christian Church in Danville. The Revs. Norman Hayley and Caroline Bloomfield will officiate.

Friends may call after the service at the funeral home.
