Betty Waggener, 73, Henderson, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Methodist Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and Women of the Moose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Thomas Waggener, who died in 1984.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Cleveland and Janet Todd, both of Henderson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Revs. Bill Patterson and Alan Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Violet May Haynes Griffin

Violet May Haynes Griffin, 91, Henderson, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Redbanks.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and a longtime employee of Cornbleet Dress Factory and CBS Dress Factory.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Haynes, who died in 1973; and her second husband, James V. Griffin, who died in 1992.

Services are pending at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.

Mary A. Denham

Mary A. Denham, 69, Henderson, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999 at Methodist Hospital.

She was a member of Henderson General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis W., who died in January 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Anna Evans of Robards and Tona Hosman of Mattoon, Ky.; four sons, M. Lee Denham and John Denham, both of Henderson, Elvis W. Denham Jr. and Michael Wayne Denham, both of Dixon; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Steven Dane will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Dunkerson Farmer

Mary Dunkerson Farmer, 88, Henderson, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at Redbanks nursing home.

She was a member of Audubon Baptist Church for 60 years and a member of Eastern Star for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Herbert Sr., who died in 1992; and by a son, Herbert Farmer Jr., who died in 1983.

Survivors include one son, Ray Farmer of Zion; two sisters, Ruth Van Meter of Henderson and Audie Griffin of Amelia, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.

Martin VanBuren Tompkins

Martin VanBuren Tompkins, 91, Henderson, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at Methodist Hospital.

He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Slaughters.

Survivors include three daughters, Rose Stone and Brenda Speith, both of Henderson, and Dorothy Yourn of Evansville; two sons, Jim Tompkins and John Tompkins, both of Henderson; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Lalas Harper

MORGANFIELD -- Lalas Harper, 93, Morganfield, died at 10:37 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A member of the Church of God of Prophecy, he was a retired farmer and life-long member of the Uniontown Coon Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, who died in 1988 and by a son, Lalas Harper Jr., who died in 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Rogers of Morganfield and Linda Owen of Sturgis; four sons, Charles Harper of Morganfield, Harold Harper of Sturgis, Arnold Harper of Central City, and Lloyd Harper of Grove Center, Ky.; one sister, Myrtle Wersching of Maryville, Ill.; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God of Prophecy in Morganfield. The Rev. Jerry Chesser will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Albertine Schafer

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Albertine Schafer, 86, St. Petersburg, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Palm Shores Retirement Center in St. Petersburg.

Of the Baptist faith, she was a retired elementary school teacher and had taught in both Jefferson and Daviess counties in Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Henry W. Schafer, who died in 1990.

Survivors include one daughter, Joanna Harrison of Covington, La.; one son, Bill Schafer of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Virginia Fulcher White and Emma Lou Fulcher Fuchs, both of Owensboro; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Mildred N. Vandeman, 87, Holmes Beach, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999 in Freedom Village in Bradenton following a long illness.

A homemaker, she was a member of Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, Fla.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Lawrence; one son, Ronald L. Vandeman, formerly of Henderson; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, Fla.

Mary E. "Betty" Townsend

Mary E. "Betty" Townsend, 75, Henderson, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Redbanks nursing home.

She was of the Presbyterian faith, a retired bookkeeper for Ohio Valley National Bank and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Anderson and Sally Barnard, both of Henderson; two sons, Charles "Reid" Townsend and Robert "Bob" Townsend, both of Henderson; one sister, Margaret "Parge" Johnston of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.; one brother, Alex "Butch" Reid Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tapp Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Byerley will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.

WAVERLY -- Donald R. Ritch, 59, Waverly, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Union County Methodist Hospital.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a former maintainance man at Earl C. Clements Job Corp. He was also a former boilermaker and a member of Eagles Club 1717 in Mount Vernon, Ind.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Judith; two daughters, Cheryl Hubbard of Marion, Ky., and Carol Vaughn of Morganfield; two sons, Ronald Ritch and Roger Ritch, both of Morganfield; one sister, Wanda Berry of Waverly; one brother, Kenneth Ritch of Owensboro; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Tapp Funeral Home.

Bobby Jo Paris Abernathy

PRIDE, Ky. -- Bobby Jo Paris Abernathy, 55, Pride, died at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville due to cancer.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, Miss. A 1966 graduate of Western Kentucky University, she was an art and English teacher at Union County High School and was also a floral designer and interior decorator.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Abernathy, of Jackson, Miss.; one son, Andy Cunningham of Memphis, Tenn.; her parents, Ramona and Ryvers Paris of Pride; one sister, Myra Matlock of Pride; and one brother, Ronnie Paris of Pride.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. Carl McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Friends may call until service time today at the funeral home.

Milbert Wiedrich

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. -- Milbert Wiedrich, 72, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at his home here due to an apparent heart attack.

He was a member of Mount Vernon General Baptist Church and of the VFW in Mount Vernon. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and an independent mechanic for the last five years.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth; two daughters, Debi Wildt of Mount Vernon and Michele Conroy of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; one son, Marty Wiedrich of Mount Vernon; four sisters, Freida Forbes of Aberdeen, S.D., Loraine Reidt of Roscoe, S.D., Ruth Obenauer and Alice Kallenberger, both Eureka, S.D.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Boone Funeral Home-Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

"L.C." Collins

ELDORADO, Ill. -- "L.C." Collins, 80, Eldorado, formerly of Henshaw, Ky., died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at V.A. Hospital in Marion, Ill.

He was a member of Old Bethel Church in Union Couty and was a World War II and Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Collins, who died in 1972.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Juanita Collins; one daugher, Judy Jackson of Eldorado; five sisters, Elsie Heavrin of Sturgis, Hannah Hall of Springfield, Ill., June Bandish of Wisconsin, Martha Pigman of Dixon, and Wanda Ruane of Chicago; one brother, Plez Collins of Caseyville, Ky.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Bethel Cemetery in Union County. The Rev. Mark Jackson will officiate.

Michael Thomas Patterson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Michael Thomas Patterson, 25, Nashville, formerly of Henderson, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Nashville Memorial Hospital in Madison, Tenn.

He was a plumber at Hiller Plumbing in Nashville.

Survivors include his wife, Dana; one stepson, Austin Bechard; his mother, Diana Jobe of Henderson; his stepfather, Ernie Jobe of Henderson; his father George Patterson of Nashville; his stepmother, Patricia Patterson of Nashville; three sisters, Libby Waters of Beaver Dam, Ky., Christina Porter of Henderson and Laura Pease of Nashville; three stepsisters, Regina Brewer of Nashville, and April Jobe and Tammy Young, both of St. Mary's, Ohio; three stepbrothers, Jeremy Jobe and Travis Jobe, both of St. Mary's, and Ronnie Brewer of Nashville; one half-brother, Bo Patterson of Nashville; and his grandparents, Juanita Patterson of Henderson, and Tom and Fay Davis of Henderson.

Services were held Thursday at Ellis Funeral Home in Nashville. The Rev. Cordell Haney officiated.

Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Nashville.

Margaret Helen Waddell

FLOWER MOUND, Texas -- Margaret Helen Waddell, 78, Flower Mound, formerly of Henderson, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at her home here.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan M. White and Sally K. Hawkins; one son, Richard Donald Waddell Jr.; one brother, Owen Gregory; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas.

Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Marion Ray Willett, 64, Coleman, Fla., formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1999, at the Veterans Administration hospital here.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Hoggard of Henderson; two sons, Michael Willett and Perry Willett, both of Henderson; three brothers, James R. Willett of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gary E. Willett of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Morris L. Willett of Coleman; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purcell Funeral Home in Bushnell, Fla. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Grace M. Brewer

STURGIS -- Grace M. Brewer, 91, Sturgis, died at 10:53 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster; one daughter, Earlene Shoffner; and three sons, Gene Brewer, Bill Brewer and Pud Brewer.

Survivors include one son, Jack Brewer, of Harrisburg; two brothers, Oral Patrick of Y Community in Union County and Robert Patrick of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. The Rev. George Yates will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

SEBREE -- Frances Imagean Stanley Scott, 87, Sebree, died at 9:58 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

She was a member of Sebree First United Methodist Church and was a retired homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Scott Jr, who died in 1996; three sons, John Scott, Dexter Scott and Jimmy Scott; and two grandsons.

Survivors include one daughter, Thelma Durbin of Sebree; three sons, Billy Wayne Scott of Henderson, Julius Scott of Sebree and LaVaughn Scott of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tompkins Funeral Homes Sebree-Poole Chapel in Sebree. The Rev. David Alexander will officiate. Burial will be in Onton Cemetery in Onton.
