Fred Atcher

Fred Atcher, 77, of Radcliff, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. A member of Stovall United Methodist Church, he was a World War II veteran and a member of American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown, Camp Knox Masonic Lodge #919, and the Scottish Rites. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick Atcher; a brother, Lawrence Atcher; and a sister, Bessie Moore. Survivors include a son, Mark Atcher of Vine Grove; a daughter, Pam Mink of Vine Grove; three brothers, A.C. Atcher and Paul Atcher of Radcliff and Virgle Atcher of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Alberta Newkirk of Louisville and Dorothy Wilder of Radcliff; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove with the Rev. David Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff. Visitation begins 6 p.m. today at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Kosair Charities.

Stanley Benjamin Avery

Stanley Benjamin Avery, 79, of Upton, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. A former master sergeant in the Air Force, he was a member of the Lucas Grove Baptist Church in Upton and the Upton Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Avery of Upton; a daughter, Margaret Waldeck of Upton; two sisters, Geneva Miller of Sonora and Ruth Cottrell of Upton; and a grandchild. The funeral is 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Grove Baptist Church in Upton with the Rev. Dewayne Chadwick officiating. Burial will be in Upton Cemetery. Visitation begins at 3 p.m. today at the Manakee Funeral Home in Upton and resumes at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

Eddie Jerome Culver

Eddie Jerome Culver, 76, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, in Elizabethtown. A native of Nelson County and a former resident of Bardstown and Culvertown, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways. He was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Culver. Survivors include two stepsons, Jerry "Shine" Culver of New Haven and Eddie Lee Culver of Phoenix, Ariz; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The funeral is 10 a.m. today at St. Catherine Catholic Church at New Haven with Father Lawrence Lindle officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Church Cemetery in New Haven. Visitation is in progress at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.

Joseph "Joey" Wayne Davis

Joseph "Joey" Wayne Davis, 25, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in Belgium. He was a 1990 graduate of North Hardin High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1991, serving in Fort Rucker, Ala., Somalia and the Netherlands until March 1997. After leaving the Army, he remained overseas. Survivors include a daughter, Sierra Megan Davis of Louisville; his parents, CSM (Retired) Ronnie Wayne Davis of Radcliff and JoAnn Sophia of Limestone, Tenn.; a sister, Beverly Jane Wriedt of Ramstein, Germany; his grandparents, Margaret Davis and Katherine Dinaso of Talladega, Ala.; his stepparents, Rose Davis of Radcliff, Wayne Sophia of Limestone, Tenn., Daisy Schneider of Brandenburg and Larry and Diann Parker of Louisville. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday followed by a memorial service at Dillow Taylor Funeral Home, 418 W. College Street, Jonesborough, Tenn. Burial will be Saturday at Graceland Memorial Gardens in Greeneville, Tenn. (leaving from the funeral home at 11 a.m.). Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Sierra M. Muriel Reeser Dawson

Muriel Reeser Dawson, 98, of Radcliff, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her residence. She was a member of West Point Christian Church and a 50-year member of Barker Chapter 79 Order of the Eastern Star at West Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garlan Bennett Dawson, on April 27, 1993. Survivors include a son, C. Leslie Dawson of Radcliff and Frankfort; and a granddaughter. The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Elmer Varnadore officiating. Burial will be in Garnettsville Cemetery in Muldraugh. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. 

Anna Ruth Emerson

Anna Ruth Emerson, 59, of Magnolia, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was a member of Union Christian Church of Hodgenville. Survivors include her husband, Albert Emerson; two sons, Bobby Dolton of Indiana and Stokley Cundiff of Buffalo; three stepsons, Donald Emerson of Hodgenville and Albert Emerson Jr. and Mark Emerson of Elizabethtown; four stepdaughters, Sharon Emerson and Debbie Sullivan of Hodgenville, Susie Jones of Buffalo and Sharlene Butrum of Indiana; seven grandchildren; and 10 stepgrandchildren. The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Coffey and the Rev.Billy Curle officiating. Visitation begins noon today at Brownfield Funeral Home in Hodgenville.

Cecil Melloan

Cecil Melloan, 66, of Louisville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his residence. He was the owner of the Professional Service Company in Louisville and a former member of the Louisville Apartment Association and the Elks Lodge #8. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Melloan; a daughter, Toni Hammond of Louisville; two stepdaughters, Paula Herron of Louisville and Patty Osborne of Shepherdsville; a stepson, Mike Herron of Louisville; a brother, David Melloan of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Elnora Talley and Betty Hodges of Louisville, Esther Dean of Muscaline, Iowa and Mildred Paez of Lexington; two grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. The funeral is 2 p.m. Central time today at Sego Funeral Home chapel in Munfordville. Burial is in Camp Ground Cemetery. Visitation continues at 8 a.m. Central time today at the funeral home.

Charles Thomas Miller

Charles Thomas Miller, 54, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his residence. A native of Springfield, Ill., he was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army where he was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, serving for 17 years. He was a car salesman for Osborne Ford in Radcliff for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Raymond and Helen Miller. He is survived by his wife, Patricia T. Miller. There will be a memorial service at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Nicolas officiating. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Central Kentucky or to St. James Memorial Fund. Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.

Morris Lynn Miller

Morris Lynn Miller, 76, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. A native of Adair County, he worked at Fort Knox for 36 years, was a past president of NARFE and was a state service officer for NARFE at the time of his death. He had a total of 43 years with the civil service. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Miller. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Wise Miller; a son, Morris Miller Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Clarice M. Smith of Glens Fork; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Severns Valley Baptist Church with Dr. J. Howard Cobble and the Rev. Billy Compton officiating. Burial will be in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after noon Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Evelyn Green Mills

Evelyn Green Mills, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. A native of Henderson County, she was employed by Fort Knox Civil Service for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gilbert Mills, on July 29, 1995; two sons, Robert Roy Carter and William J. Carter; a brother, Walter Green; and a sister, Louise Hargis. Survivors include three sons, James A. Carder of Evansville, Ind. and Harry E. Mills and John G. Mills of Elizabethtown; a brother, Eugene Green of Henderson; three sisters, Lorene Felker of Elizabethtown, Florene Stone of Henderson and Geraldine Guadagni of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Jeff Nicolas officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation begins 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where a prayer vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. today.

Thomas J. "Tom" Rogers I

Thomas J. "Tom" Rogers I, 77, of Vine Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was a member of Emory Heights Baptist Church in Harriman, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Diane, in 1956. Survivors include his wife, Lelia Mae Rogers; three daughters, Sue Hager of Cecilia, Joy Duncan of Winston Salem, N.C. and Shelia McCoy of Vine Grove; four sons, Jeff Rogers of Radcliff, Rick Rogers of Cecilia, Larry Rogers of Elizabethtown and Gary Rogers of Indianapolis; five brothers, R.W. Rogers of Miamisburg, Ohio, John R. Rogers of Harriman, Tenn., E.J. Rogers of Bradenton, Fla. and Robert F. Rogers and Donald H. Rogers of Michigan City, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove with the Rev. Mark Boes officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary Jane Evelyn Taylor

Mary Jane Evelyn Taylor, 68, of Louisville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at her residence. She was a former employee of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Larry Pillow of Louisville; a daughter, Sarah Franceen Yates of Radcliff; her mother, Sarah H. Logan of Louisville; a daughter-in-law, Saundra Lee Pillow, who cared for her; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral is 11 a.m. today at Bates Memorial Baptist Church, 1228 S. Jackson, Louisville, with burial in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the church. Perryman’s Mortuary at 3237 W. Broadway in Louisville is in charge of arrangements.

Muriel Reesor Dawson, 98, of Radcliff, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garlan Dawson. She is survived by a son, C. Leslie Dawson of Radcliff and a grandchild. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Richard A. Arnett

Richard A. Arnett, 78, of Mount Sherman, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Mahoney. Survivors include a daughter, Ruby J. Bennett of Hopkinsville; two sons, Richard Arnett Jr. of Mount Sherman and Rayburn Eugene Arnett of Hodgenville; a sister, Eula Mae Warren of Hodgenville; a brother, Morris Arnett of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The funeral was Saturday at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with the Rev. Gerald Gardner officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Green County.

Garland Lee Bogard

Garland Lee Bogard, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. A Hardin County native, he was retired from Fort Knox and was a member of Long View United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Edna Irene Yates Bogard. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. The Rev. Philip Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret French

Margaret French, 78, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was a Hardin County native and a Baptist. Survivors include two sons, R. Fairley French of Clay City and Johnny A. French of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, June Burgess of Princeton, W. Va. and Rita G. French of Louisville; a sister, Mrs. William Frederick of Elizabethtown; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren. The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ervin Eugene Leach, 75, of Vine Grove, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. Survivors include three daughters, Rita Rae Trenum of Vine Grove, Anita Louise Hood of Prattville, Ala. and Diana Lynn Dudley of Riverton, Wyo.; two brothers, James Porter Leach of Decatur, Ill. and Robert McMillan Leach of Urbana, Ill.; two sisters, Ellen May Williams of Wilmington, Ill. and Alice Elaine Long of Calumet City, Ill; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove. The Rev. Stephen Alexander will officiate. Burial will be Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo.

Ronnie T. McClure, 91, of Hodgenville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Gertrude McClure. Survivors include four daughters, Corine Edlin and Barbara Hall, both of Louisville; Marlene Gambrell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Betty Bruska of Crandell, Ind.; five sons, Ronnie McClure Jr. of Louisville, Glovis McClure, Paul McClure and Melvin McClure, all of Hodgenville, and Billy McClure of North Carolina; two sisters, Juanita Wooden of Leitchfield and Olefa Sharpenstein of Indiana; and 18 grandchildren. The funeral is 10 a.m. Monday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Dr. Isaac McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.
