Henry K. Wren
Henry K. Wren, 76, of High Street, died Monday at his home.
Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Cleve
and Lillie King Wren. He was a retired security guard.
Survivors include five sons, James and Allen Wren, both of Danville,
Billy Wren of Lexington, Dickie Wren of Stanford and Mike Wren of Junction
City; two daughters, Brenda Hillard of Parksville and Teresa Wren of Clay
City; two stepsons, Robbie Walters of Nicholasville and Johnny McKnight
of Olympia; two stepdaughters, Barbara Carrier and Linda Stafford, both
of Danville; two brothers, Woodrow Wren of Danville and Bill Wren of Lancaster;
two sisters, Pat Vice and Pearl Payne, both of Danville; 22 grandchildren
and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Wren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by
Gary Story. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David and Joey Wren, Charlie Whitlock, Adam Harmon,
Matt Quinn and Brad Lynn.
Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Harmon and Tim and Mike Brock.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.
Robert E. Gordon
Services for Robert Earl Gordon, 75, of Boyden Court, were scheduled
for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gethsemane Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Payton.
Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military rites.
He died Saturday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington.
Pallbearers are Chris Hill, Craig and Chris Gordon, Tommy Carter, Norman
Bartleson and Lewis Grider.
Honorary pallbearers are Neal Gordon, Charles Stafford, Herb Toombs,
Chester Nichols and grandchildren.

Ernest Leach
CRAB ORCHARD - Ernest Leach, 66, of Taylor, Mich., died there Friday.
Born Sept. 18, 1932, in Jonesboro, Ark., he was a son of the late Robert
E. and Bessie Leach. He was a former owner and operator of EAL Inc., an
auto parts business from which he retired.
Survivors include his fiance, Loletia McLeskey of Stanford; stepfather,
Verley McLeskey Sr.; five sisters, Marie Gilbert and Arlene Gibson, both
of Tennessee, Rose Connelly and Linda and Joyce Moore, both of Michigan;
and a brother, Verly McLeskey Jr. of Michigan.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Double Springs Cemetery
in Waynesburg by the Rev. David Harris.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Leah Cummins Miller of Fort Lauderdale, formerly
of Junction City, died Monday at Coral Springs Medical Center after a short
illness.
Survivors include a son, David W. Miller of Fort Lauderdale; two sisters,
Gayle Potts of Coroapolis, Pa., and Brenda Carroll of Burgin; eight brothers,
Frank, Cecil and Brad Cummins, all of Stanford, Dewey Cummins of Perryville,
Mike Cummins of Mitchellsburg, Johnny, Ricky and Timmy Cummins, all of
Junction City.
Funeral arrangements were made in Florida.

Timothy D. Chester
HARRODSBURG - Timothy Dale Chester, 34, of Maple Street, died Monday
in an auto accident in Jessamine County.
Born March 16, 1964, in Mercer County, he was a son of Patricia Y.
Wilham Miller of Harrodsburg, and the late Allen Chester. He was a carpenter
and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his stepfather, David Miller; a son, Joshua Chester
of Danville; a sister, Lesha A. Curtsinger of Harrodsburg; a brother, Terry
L. Chester of Danville; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Chester
of Danville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the
Rev. Dale Denton. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Queen P. Harris
LEXINGTON - Queen Victoria ``Momma Queen'' Prentice Harris, 85, of
Lexington, died Monday.
Born in Wilmore, she was a daughter of the late Turner and Maggie Tull
Prentice, a member of Cedar Top Baptist Church, and the widow of Clarence
E. Harris.
Survivors include five daughters, Ann Johnson, Emma Patton, Hattie
Claybrooks, and Edith Miller, all of Lexington, and Mary Griffin of Danville;
three sisters, Betty W. Marshall of Lexington, Berniece Gates of Keene,
and Sarah Baker of Winchester; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren;
and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three
children, John I. Johnson, Geneva Cassell and James R. Johnson.
Services will be noon Friday at Cedar Top Baptist Church, Wilmore,
by the Rev. Anthony Givens. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Grace Potts Kitts, 82, of Logan Avenue, will
be 1 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Potts. Burial will
be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
She died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1916, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late
William C. and Mary Mastin Potts. She was a homemaker, a member of Neals
Creek Methodist Church and the widow of Jim Kitts.
Survivors include five daughters, Juanita K. Fletcher of Richmond,
Va., Shelby J. Stevens of Stanford, Lois K. Metzger of Versailles, Patricia
Kitts of Hustonville and Debbie K. Widner of Bald Knob, Ark.; a brother,
William C. Potts Jr. of Sparta; a sister, Mabel D. Nave of Dayton, Ohio;
13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

LIBERTY - Avery ``Abe'' Buis, 81, of Liberty, died Wednesday at Casey
County Hospital.
Born Feb. 17, 1917, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Jason
and Pearlie Tarter Buis. He was a retired farmer and a member of Athens
Church of Christ.
Survivors include two brothers, Verlin Buis of Liberty and Ervin Buis
of Eubank; and two sisters, Gertha Elmore of Yosemite and Maurine Fair
of Liberty.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the
Rev. Virgil T. Eubank. Burial will be in Poplar Hill Cemetery.

Charles V. Saylor
CRAB ORCHARD - Charles V. Saylor, 62, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Wednesday
at his home.
Born Oct. 29, 1936, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late Hezzie
and Roxie Hoskins Saylor. He was an Army veteran and retired from Western
Bowling Alley, Cincinnati. He had attended Watts Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, June Hawkins of Cincinnati.
Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. at Saylor Cemetery, Crab Orchard,
by the Rev. Dan Gutenson.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-noon Saturday at McKnight-Martin Funeral

Services for Stella Jenkins Logue, 70, of Lexington, will be 11 a.m.
Friday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Donnie Releford. Burial will be
in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
She died Tuesday at her home.
Born July 29, 1928, in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late
John and Hattie Jenkins. She was a shoe store manager in Cincinnati, a
lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Unit 1, Lexington Auxiliary
and a state executive of the DAV Auxiliary. She was a member of Calvary
Baptist Church, Lexington.
Survivors include her husband, Louis M. Logue; two sons, Calvin Sims
of Mount Washington and Michael J. Logue of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter,
Barbara D. Hacker of Lexington; a brother, Leonard Jenkins of Florence;
three sisters, Lucy Voorhies, Lizzie Vandiver and Emily Patterson, all
of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rich Blumeier, Sam Kennedy, Brian Hacker, Eric
Hacker, Steve Ghadik, Michael Sims, Jimmy Logue and Rob Elks.

Jo A. Brashear
HARRODSBURG - Jo Anne Brashear, 82, of Bonnylynn Drive, died Thursday
at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Dec. 17, 1915, in Hyden, she was the daughter of the late Ira
and Jane Morgan. She was a retired teacher and a member of Presbyterian
church. She was the former wife the late Custer Brashear.
Survivors include one son, Toma G. Brashear of Gainesville, Fla., a
daughter, Conchita Grall of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held later in Florida.

Helen T. Robinson
HARRODSBURG - Helen T. Robinson, 102, of Handy Pike, died Wednesday
at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 25, 1896, in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late
Will and Elizabeth Wintch Theuer.
She was the widow of Francis Emerson Robinson. She was a retired horse
farm owner and a charter member of the Garden Grove Community Church, now
the Crystal Cathedral. She and her husband owned and operated Clear View
Farm in Summit., N.J., and an American saddle horse breeding farm in Iowa.
She was a horse show judge and was instrumental in the formation of the
American Saddle Horse Association. She owned and operated the F.E. Robinson
Art Galleries from 1944 to 1978. She was associated with the Montjoy Horse
Farm in Kentucky for a number of years and was a honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Survived by a son, Kenneth D. Robinson of Harrodsburg, six grandchildren,
10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held later in New Jersey.
Memorials may go to the Mercer County Chapter of the American Cancer

MORELAND - Lucille Statom, 92, of Junction City, died today at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
She was born April 21, 1906, in Boyle County. She was the widow of
Edgar Statom.
She is survived by a son, Eddie Statom of Junction City; four grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Morgan Statom.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev.
Keith Willoughby. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Sunday.

HARRODSBURG - Services for Daisy Roach Prewitt, 93, of Lexington, formerly

She died Wednesday at the Christian Health Care Center in Lexington.
Born Oct. 4, 1905, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late
George Allan and Sally Hester Dean Brown. She was a retired seamstress
with Cricketeer Manufacturing and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist
Church.
She is survived by two sons, William Gene Roach of Las Vegas, David
Lee Roach of Lexington; two daughters, Edith Loraine Cain of Apple Valley
Calif., and Susan Dean of Louisville; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.

He died Thursday at his residence.
Born May 3, 1924, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Edward
Hale ``Pete'' and Nell Taylor Poindexter. He was a retired mechanic and
fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He attended Texas Technical University and the University of Kentucky.
Survivors include two sisters, Frances Leonard of Harrodsburg and Betty
Poindexter of St. Petersburg, Fla.

member of Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James F. Carpenter; a brother, Roscoe
Royalty of Harrodsburg; and a sister, Faye Adkinson of Harrodsburg.

John Etta Chenault, 82, of Fairview Street, Danville, died on Wednesday,
Dec. 2, 1998 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born March 17, 1916 in Boyle county, she was the daughter of the late
Joe Hattie Walker and John Bradshaw. She was a retired seamstress and a
member of First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut streets, where she was
formerly a member of the church Progressive Club and former president of
the usher board. She was the widow of Harvey Chenault Sr.
Survivors include two sons, George and Harvey Chenault, both of Danville;
three daughters, Bethel Wade, Loretta Taylor and Rita Laneir Bowman, all
of Danville; one brother, Porter Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio; 16 grandchildren;
19 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandhcildren
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church,
Second and Walnut, with the Rev. David Chenault officiating. Burial will
be in Hilldale cemetery.

LIBERTY - Luther ``Babe'' Durham, 69, of Yosemite, died Friday at University
of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Born April 12, 1929, in Mount Olive, Ky., he was a son of the late
Brownlow and Frances Durham.
He was a former sawmill employee.
Survivors include two nephews, a niece and several cousins. He was
preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Walter Ernest Finley, 94, of Stoney Point Road, died Friday at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 9, 1904, in Danville, he was a son of the late Houston and
Martha Ann Vanderpool Finley.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Wylie Finley; two sons, Kenneth
T. ``Dude'' Finley of Danville and Garnet R. Finley of Nicholasville; four
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Maude Gray
Maude Gray, 101, of the Center for Rehabilitation, died Wednesday at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1897, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late
Peter Kennedy and Eliza Kennedy Cowan. She was the widow of Tom Gray and
was a member of First Baptist Church and Women's Improvement Club. She
worked for the Bean, Guerrant and Glore families.
Survivors include a niece, Sonora Jones of Danville; a great-niece,
Carolyn Prince of Danville; and a great-great-niece, Debbie Prince of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by a son, J.T. Gray.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church by the Rev.
Richard Hill. Burial will be in Hilldale Cemetery.

LIBERTY - Ruby Lawhorn, 91, of Carmicle View Apartments, Liberty, died
Friday at her home.
Born Aug. 30, 1907, in Adair County, she was a daughter of the late
Jowel and Laura Bottoms Hardwick and was the widow of George Lawhorn. She
was a homemaker and member of South Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherene Evans and Martha Patton,
both of Liberty, and Georgia Barnes of Brookston, Ind.; two sons, Tommy
and Gregory Lawhorn, both of Liberty; a sister, Evaline Godby of Liberty;
26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Margarett Taylor and Luethel
Lawhorn; and a son, David Lawhorn.

Bobby Bryant. Burial will be in South Fork Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Wilburn Emmett Maggard, 94, of Ky. Hwy. 1781, died Friday
at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born March 30, 1904, in Wise County, Va., he was a son of the late
Sam Maggard and Mary Helen Killen Maggard Milliron. He was a farmer and
attended Mount Zion Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Dessie Mae Smith Maggard of Stanford; two
daughters, Sue Reynolds of Waynesburg and Sherry Stoeke of Covington; two
sons, Emmett Lee and Lonnie Richard Maggard, both of Stanford; a half-brother,
Henry Hudson Milliron of Illinois; a half-sister, Fay Barnes of Eaton,
Ohio; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by two sisters.

Mary Margaret Hughes Raines.
He was a self-employed carpenter and member of True Followers of Christ.
He was the widower of Hattie May Raines.
Survivors include three sons, David and Mitchell Raines, both of Garrard
County, and Irvan Raines of Lancaster; a daughter, Shirley Sheron of Lancaster;
two sisters, Evelyn Stone of Garrard County and Sally Benge of Versailles;
five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Born July 3, 1942, he was a son of the late Robert and Ella Noggle
Smith. He was a self-employed mechanic and a Baptist.

Craig of Liberty; four sisters, Marlene Skinner, Yevon Conkin and Angela

George Boone Richardson, 96, of Cardinal Drive, died Saturday at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1902, in Somerset, he was a son of the late James and Emma
L. Frazure Richardson. He was owner of Piggly Wiggly, Richardson's IGA,
Triangle Food Store and Super Key, having been in the grocery business
for more than 60 years. He was known as ``Mr. Rich'' by many of his customers.
He was a Methodist and the widower of Clara Miles Richardson.
Survivors include a son, Guy P. Richardson of Danville; a daughter,
Betty R. Chaney of Franklin, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev.
Richard P. Guerrant. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.
Albert L. Wheat
Albert L. Wheat, 90, of Harrodsburg Health Care Center, formerly of
Danville Road, Stanford, died Sunday at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 8, 1908, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Alex and
Ella Key Wheat. He was a retired Corning Glass Works employee and a member
of Alum Springs First Church of God. He was the widower of Bernetta Van
Hook Wheat.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Wilcher Allen Wheat; three sons,
Harry W. Wheat of Danville, Bennie L. Wheat of Mount Sterling, and Albert
``Jack'' Wheat of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Loraine Kinsman of Houston,
Texas, Ann Chumbley of Clarksville, Ind., and Martha Wilson of Hillsboro,
Ohio; a brother, Charles Wheat of Muncie, Ind.; 24 grandchildren; and several
great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by
the Rev. Garry Allen. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Harris, Wayne Chumbley, Mike Wilson, Leslie
Wheat, B.C. Allen and Garry Allen Jr.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Lola N. Thomas
LIBERTY - Lola Nadene Thomas, 78, of Dunnville, died Saturday at Casey
County Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1919, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Wesley and Cora Roy. She was the widow of Leslie Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, David Thomas and Alton ``Buck'' Thomas,
both of Dunnville; four daughters, Brenda Meece and Gail Arms, both of
Dunnville, Darlene South of Greenwood, Ind., and Alta Grider of Liberty;
nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Leon and Donald Thomas; and
a daughter, Wilda Thomas.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the
Rev. Wesley Roy and Shirley Denson. Burial will be in Thomas Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Grider, Isaac South, Matthew Thomas, Micky
Meece, Jerry Arms, David South, Jeffrey Arms and Jimmy Grider.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.
Ernest Finley
Graveside services for Walter Ernest Finley, 94, of Stoney Point Road,
were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Tim Mathis.
He died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Lettie B. Scott
LANCASTER - Services for Lettie Broadus Scott, 95, of Lexington, will
be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Craig Yates. Burial
will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
She died Saturday at Pine Meadows Health Care Center, Lexington.
Born Sept. 3, 1903, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late
W.J. and Verna Turner Broadus. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant
Grove Christian Church. She was the widow of Randolph Scott.
Survivors include two brothers, Walker Broadus of Lexington and Hubert
Broadus of Clarksville, Ind.; and a sister, Ethel Saterly of Lexington.
Pallbearers will be Carliss Conley, Shaun, J.C., Charles and Phillip
Broadus, and Gary Powell.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today. |
