Rada Beam

Rada Beam, 93, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Sunday, April 25, 1999 at Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born in Carroll County, IN Aug. 16, 1905 to J. Edward and Nancy Elizabeth (Hibner) Kendall. She was married first to Edward Fausch. Following his death, she later married Paul Beam on March 28, 1958 and he died in 1971.

She was a Home Economics and English teacher for 19 years, having taught in New Paris, Goshen, Middlebury and North Manchester. She was a graduate of Burnettsville High School and a graduate of Manchester College. She and her first husband owned and operated the Hoosier House home furnishings south of Goshen. 

She was a former member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority in Goshen, IN, and a member of the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, a former member of the North Manchester Historical Society, and was an avid gardener and bird lover.

She is survived by two sons - John M. Beam and Paul J. Beam, both of Fort Wayne; two daughters - Barbara Floyd of Tampa, FL and Nancy Wible of North Manchester; a brother, Rev. J. Paul Kendall of Kokomo; three sisters - Mary Rau of North Manchester, Alta Marburger of South Bend, and Margaret Read of Catlett, VA; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call Saturday, May 1, 1999 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Peabody Chapel, Peabody Retirement Community. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Peabody Chapel with Rev. Robert Schmeiser officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, No. Manchester.

Preferred memorials are to the Congregational Christian Church, the Peabody Caring Circle, and/or the North Manchester Garden Club.

Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dwight H. Overholser

Dwight H. Overholser, 86, of 103 1/2 So. Mill St., North Manchester, IN, died Sunday, April 25, 1999 at the Fort Wayne V.A. Hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1912 in Kosciusko County, Indiana to Howard and Effa (Montel) Overholser.

He was a retired farmer, and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Huntington,

He is survived by a sister, Miriam Shull of Roanoke, IN.

A memorial service and graveside service will be held at a later date. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce E. Davison Taylor

Joyce Estelle Davison Taylor, 73, of 9089 N 200 W, Ijamsville, IN, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. She was born Nov. 26, 1925 at Douglas County, IL to Wesley Russell and Lily Maud (Hallowell) Stout. She lived in the North Manchester area since 1948, and lived the winter months in Leesburg, FL.

She was first married to Edgar M. Davison; she then married Gerald L. Taylor in North Manchester on May 24, 1977. She was a member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church.

She worked as a Customer Service Representative for Ford Meter Box for 19 years until her retirement. She also worked for Dr. George Seward for nine years and Manchester Community Schools for nine years. 

Survivors include her husband, Gerald, of Ijamsville; a son, Wesley Ross Davison of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Jacqualine Ann) Elliott of Holland, MI and Mrs. Jim (Janet Estelle) Sturtsman of North Manchester; stepdaughters Mrs. Fred (Carol Ann) Johnson of Wabash and Mrs. Arlene Gressley of Richvalley; stepsons Eldon Taylor of Wabash and Roger Taylor of Richvalley; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. A step son and a granddaughter preceded her in death.

Funeral service was held this morning (Wednesday, April 28, 1999) at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, with the Rev. Randall Webb officiating. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery, at Laketon, IN. 

Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Ijamsville United Methodist Church.

Randy Joe Favorite

Randy Joe Favorite, 40, of 133 Gladstone Drive, Wabash, IN, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at St. Vincent's Hospital of Indianapolis. He was born May 30, 1958 at Wabash, IN to Carl and Gladys (Jeffries) Favorite. He married Connie Biehl July 5, 1980 in Wabash.

Mr. Favorite was a draftsman at Thermafiber in Wabash for the past 20 years. He was a member of the Wabash Cannonball Motorcycle Club, and was a former Wabash High School Varsity Wrestling Coach.

Survivors include his wife, Connie of Wabash; his parents, Carl and Gladys Favorite of Wabash; a sister, Brenda Willour of Indianapolis; and a brother, Gary Favorite of Wabash. A brother preceded him in death.

Funeral service was held today (Wednesday, April 28, 1999) at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash, with Pastor Stephen Eckart officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery, located near Roann, IN.

Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Wabash Field of Dreams.

Roy M. Krichbaum

Roy M. Krichbaum, 89, of P.O. Box 13, Servia, IN, died Friday, April 23, 1999 at Peabody Health Care, located within Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. He was born July 19, 1909 in Wabash County, IN to George and Lovisa (Stellar) Krichbaum. He married Iva M. Flohr June 24, 1933.

He was a former employee of Celotex Corporation of Lagro; the last 11 years of his employment was as a custodian for Manchester Community Schools.

Survivors include his wife, Iva; a son, James A. (wife, Barbara) Krichbaum of Chelsea, MI; daughters Mrs. Tony (Shirley) Bowen of Chelsea, MI and Mrs. Merl (Karen) Wilson of North Manchester; brothers Robert Krichbaum of Niceville, FL and Ralph Krichbaum of Servia; and nine grandchildren, including Steve (Carolyn) Bowen, Mike (Sue) Bowen, Doug (Risa) Bowen, Cyndi (Chris Kulssurelis, Tammy (Steve) Henson, David (Sheila) Wilson, Joel (Ellen) Krichbaum, Randy (Mary Lynn) Krichbaum, and Robyn (Jeff) Staebler; 14 great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, April 25, 1999 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester with the Rev. David Pinkham officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.

Preferred memorials are to the Servia United Church of Christ, or Peabody Retirement Community.

Dorothy M. Gaerte Nordman

Dorothy M. Gaerte Nordman, 95, a resident of Rolling Meadows Health Care, LaFontaine, IN, died Thursday, April 22, 1999 at Rolling Meadows. She was born Feb. 4, 1904 in Miami County, IN to Levi and Lucy (Yearian) Gaerte.

She was a private duty care giver to many adults and children throughout her life. She was also a member of the Disko United Methodist Church for many years.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one child.

Funeral service was held Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Roann Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, with Pastor Stan Owen officiating. Burial was in the Gaerte Cemetery in Miami County, IN.

Arrangements were by Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel.

Harold G. Smith

Harold G. Smith, 84, of 537 Bryan Ave., Apt. C, Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999 at his residence. He was born June 21, 1914 at Wabash, IN to Lewis and Ethel (Cullers) Smith. He married Dorothy Deane Calfee in Zionsville, IN on March 4, 1938; she died May 18, 1990.

He was a graduate of Wabash High School, and was a retired farmer. He had served as the Wabash County Planning Commission Director and the Wabash County Weights and Measures Inspector. He was a member of the Wabash Friends Church, and an honorary member of the Wabash County 4-H Fair Board.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Sandra) Craft; granddaughter, Mrs. Kent (Wendy) Short ; grandson, Brent Craft; and Kaelyn Short, a great granddaughter, all of Wabash. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service was held Friday, April 23, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, with Pastor James Engel officiating. Burial was in LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery, located at LaFontaine. Preferred memorials are to the Wabash Friends Church.
