Cleo M. Wright

Cleo M. Wright, 105, of 1741 Cherry St., Huntington, IN, died January 15, 1997 at the home of her daughter-in-law, Sara Wright. She formerly resided in Wabash County, near Andrews, on a farm where she was a housewife and homemaker. 

Born Nov. 7, 1891 in Paw Paw Township, her parents were J. Edward and Lucetta (Staver) Long. She married Garber D. Wright April 15, 1914 at Wabash, IN and he died May 21, 1981.

She was the oldest living mem-ber of North Manchester First Brethren Church. She was also a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Women's Guild, Andrews.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Louise) Dawson of Wabash, her daughter-in-law, Sara Wright; a grand-daughter, five great grandchil-dren, and seven great-great grandchildren. A son, Edward Wright and a grandson, Fred Wright, as well as a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral service was held Fri-day, Jan. 17, 1997 at Deal-Rob-bins & Van Gilder Huntington Chapel with the Rev. Marlin McCann officiating, assisted by the Rev. Woodrow Immel. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Frank R. Conrad

Frank Robert Conrad, 81, of 504 Hawthorn Trail, North Manchester, and formerly of Pleasant Township, Wabash County, IN, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center following a nine month illness. Frank was born Jan. 5, 1916 in Wabash County to Daniel and Pearl (Baker) Con-rad, and was a retired farmer.

He married Helen Little Sept. 7, 1941, and she survives along with three daughters - Mrs. Mike (Nancy) Berger of Goshen, IN, and Kay Conrad and Connie Conrad, both of Fond Du Lac, WI; and a brother, Duard Conrad, of Timbercrest Community, North Manchester.

Mr. Conrad was an avid gar-dener and enjoyed singing and traveling. He was a 1934 gradu-ate of Laketon High School and attended Manchester College. He was a charter member of the Laketon Lions Club, a former member of the Chain-O-Lakes Chorus of Columbia City, and was formerly Pleasant Township trustee for 16 years..

He was a member of North Manchester First Brethren Church where he had served as a deacon for 51 years, and sang in the church choir, as well as serving on the church official board for many years.

Hundreds of friends called at the DeLaughter-McKee Mortu-ary Sunday afternoon, and fu-neral service was held Monday morning, Jan. 20, at Timbercrest Chapel. Rev. Marlin McCann of-ficiated, and Rev. Woodrow Im-mel assisted in the service. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.

Preferred memorials may be made to First Brethren Church or Timbercrest Retirement Community.

Bernice Judy

Bernice Judy, 79, of 1007 Charlie Street, North Manchester, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born April 26, 1917 in Wabash County to Lewis and Golda (McKee) Dan-ner, both deceased. She mar-ried Earl Judy Feb. 29, 1936 and he preceded her in death March 27, 1995. She had been employed for 29 years as a cook and custodian by the Manchester Schools Corporation.

She was a member of the Lib-erty Mills Church of the Brethren, and also belonged to the Women of the Moose.

Survivors include two sons - Leo Judy of Silver Lake and Donald Judy of South Whitley; brothers, Lorin Danner of Pierceton and Glenn Danner of Bourbon, and sisters Lois Mon-esmith and Dorothy Ritzen-thaler, both of Bourbon, IN.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Friends were received Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19 at DeLaugh-ter-McKee Mortuary, and fu-neral service was held at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 20, 1997 with the Rev. Mark Flora-Swick officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Preferred memorials are to Mooseheart.

Jack C. Breneman

Jack Carlton Breneman, 67, of 1001 Meyer Road, Celina, OH, and formerly of North Manch-ester, IN, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997 at Community Hospital of Coldwater, OH, Mercer County. He was born Jan. 18, 1929 to the late Ralph Breneman and Eileen (Grossnickle Brene-man) Whitcomb of Centerville, MI.

Mr. Breneman was a self-em-ployed timber buyer for 40 years, and was currently retired. He was a member of the Union City Assembly of God, Union City, MI.

He is survived by his mother, Eileen Whitcomb of Centerville, MI; two sons - Randy Breneman of Durant, OK and Danny Bren-eman of Mendon, MI; two daughters _ Karla Kincaid of St. Mary's, OH and Mrs. Kirk (Lonee) Liggit of Mendon, MI; a brother, Michael Breneman of Centerville, MI; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchil-dren. A son, a brother and a sis-ter preceded him in death.

Funeral service was held Sun-day, Jan. 19 at DeLaughter-Mc-Kee Mortuary, and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, N. Manch-ester.

Edward Ziegler

Edward Ziegler, 85, of South Whitley, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997 at Miller's Merry Manor of Columbia City where he had been a resident since Feb. 28, 1994.

He was born April 6, 1911 in Chicago, IL, a son of Leo and Nellie (Thomas) Ziegler. His formative years were spent in Claypool, IN where he graduated from Claypool High School.

On Oct. 14, 1933 he married Arline Rowland. In 1936 they moved to South Whitley. They moved to their present home on East Front Street in 1946.

He was employed as a plumber, working for Lancaster Plumbing for more than 10 years. He was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge in South Whitley, the Scottish Rite, and a former member of the South Whitley Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ar-line; two daughters, Mrs. Max (Betty) Bishop of South Whitley and Mrs. Sy (Nancy) Kennedy of North Manchester; eight grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Williams, and two brothers, Paul and John.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997 at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with Dr. August Lundquist, pastor of South Whit-ley United Methodist Church, officiating. South Whitley Ma-sonic Lodge service was held Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial was in South Whit-ley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made to Whitley County E.M.S. or South Whitley United Methodist Church.

Merlin C. Finnell

Merlin Charles Finnell, 82, of 304 Oakview Dr., Monticello, IN 47960, died Jan. 4, 1997 at White County Memorial Hospital, Monticello. He was born Nov. 10, 1914 in Polk County, Iowa to Virgil C. and Lucinda Alice (Pugh) Finnell.

He was first married to Mary Kathryn Reiken; he later married Eva Marie Gorman, and then Dolores French. He was a graduate of Manchester College and did graduate studies at Purdue University. He was a social studies teacher, and boys athletic coach in the Twin Lakes School Corp., retiring in 1980.

Mr. Finnell was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, AARP, Twin Lakes Senior Citizens, and the White County Council on Aging. He was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the White County Retired Teachers Association. He wrote, co-authored and published 17 books on family histories and genealogy. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Finnell of Valparaiso, and a daughter, Mrs. Merrill "Linda Kay" Hayes of Wabash; also a granddaughter, Lisa Hayes and a grandson, Christopher Hayes; four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral arrangements were by Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Inc. of 202 S. Illinois St., Monticello, IN 47960-2219.
 

Robert W. Richards

Robert W. "Bob" Richards, 65, of 4691W 400S, Wabash, IN died Jan. 20, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Wabash County Feb. 26, 1931 to Paul A. and Versel L. (Ridenour) Richards, both deceased.

He married Delores Perkins Sept. 12, 1954 in Peru, IN. He was employed at United Tool in Wabash, was a farmer, and had worked at the Richvalley Elevator for 22 years. Mr. Richards was a member of the Richvalley United Methodist Church, and was an army veteran during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Delores, Wabash; a son, Jonathan Richards, of Wabash; two daughters, Yvonne Paxton of Wabash and Martha Bellamy of Peru; three brothers, Donald Richards of Bellevue, OH, John Richards of Peru, and Ralph Richards of Indianapolis; two sisters, Illadeen Hunt and Joyce King, both of Wabash; and four grandchildren. A sister, Dorothy Hoff Studebaker preceded him in death.

Friends may call Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Main Street Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, where funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Mowery officiating. Burial will take place in the Friends Cemetery.

Joe R. Partridge

Joe Raymond Partridge, 66, of Greenwood, IN, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born March 8, 1930 at Wabash, IN to Dewey and Dolling (Werking) Partridge. He married Joyce Estes Oct. 30, 1969.

He was an accountant for various automobile dealers for many years. He was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church, and was a World War II army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Kenneth Oakes of Indianapolis and Curtis Oakes, of Greenwood; daughters Ann Bowman of Indianapolis, Brenda Caldwell of Marietta, GA and Sharon Sturgeon of New Whiteland; brothers Robert Partridge of North Manchester and Paul Partridge of New Haven; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Private funeral service will be held at the G. H. Herrman Funeral Home of Greenwood. Preferred memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.
 

Thelma L. Turner

Thelma L. Turner, 93, a resident of Community Care Center, 1900 Alber St., Wabash, IN, died Jan. 16, 1997 at Community Care. She was born Feb. 6, 1903 at Marion, IN to Thomas and Pearl (Kirk) Mercer. She mar-ried Menno "Bill" Ulrey July 27, 1919 in Laketon, IN; he pre-ceded her in death March 31, 1946. She then married Charles Turner Sept. 3, 1949 in Angola, IN and he died in 1992.

Mrs. Turner was a member of the Laketon United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Eileen) Swygart of Laketon; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister pre-ceded her in death.

Private funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997 at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hent-gen Funeral Service. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
