TELL CITY, Ind. -- Bettye Kilian, 73, of Tell City died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Ind. She was born in Tell City and retired from General Electric Co. in Tell City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Howe; her second husband, William J. Kilian; and a stepson, Scott Kilian. 

Carroll J. Shrewsberry

WHITESVILLE -- Carroll J. Shrewsberry, 58, of Whitesville died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his home. He was born in Breckinridge County and retired from Big Rivers Electric Corp. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed restoring old cars, playing music, hunting and fishing.

Cindy A. Lee Payne, 33, of 3565 Becker Drive West, Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was employed at Omico Plastics as an inspector. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. 

Collette Wescott

PALMDALE, Calif. -- Collette Wescott, 90, of Palmdale died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at A.V. Hospital. She was born in Stanley and was a homemaker. She volunteered at Palmdale Senior Center as a tax volunteer, in emergency food service, the bridge club and was active in AARP. She won the Palmdale Civic Award twice for her volunteer work in the city. She enjoyed baking, cooking, growing fruits, vegetables and prizewinning lilacs, knitting and quilting. She also enjoyed playing cards and won many awards in bridge. 

Edith Mae Lee

SACRAMENTO -- Edith Mae Lee, 93, of Sacramento died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was born in Livermore and was a member of Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 67 years, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, CPW and Lila Circle. She was a member of the McLean County Senior Citizens program, serving as treasurer for the Sacramento site. She was a former member of the McLean County Homemakers. Her husband of 55 years, William C. Lee, preceded her in death in 1991.

Frances Nalley Lossie, 74, of 7606 Old Highway 81, Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at her home. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Rome, where she had been a member of the Altar Society and Christian Mothers. Her husband, William S. Lossie, died on Sept. 15, 1999.

GREENVILLE -- Gene Jernigan, 71, of Greenville died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and worked for the Muhlenberg County Road Department.

NEWBURGH, Ind. -- Irene A. Peters, 84, of Newburgh died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Her husband, Oscar H. Peters, died in 1968.

CADIZ -- Marlene Korth Meyer, 66, of Cadiz died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at her home. She was born in Hobart, Ind., retired as a secretary treasurer for For-Em Produce Inc. in Marion, Ind., and was a member of Linton United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

FULLUTON, Calif. -- Virginia Goode Simmons, 72, of Fulluton, formerly of Owensboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, in Fulluton. Her husband, John Simmons, died in 1977. 

Martha Elsie Clark

Martha Elsie Clark, 87, of 219 Hubert Court, Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at her home. She was born in Daviess County and was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro and Golden Partners, and was a volunteer at the Help Office for 25 1/2 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.A. Clark, in 1996; and two sons, Phillip Clark in 1978 and Robert Clark in 1995.

GREENVILLE -- Robin Buchanan Lashbrook, 34, of Benton died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, in Benton. She was born in Cook County, Illinois, was a homemaker and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

Stanley J. Fischer

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Stanley J. Fischer, 79, of Tell City, Ind., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was born in Tell City. He was founder and president of Fischer's Furniture and Appliance Co., Fischer's Tru-Flame Gas Co. Inc., Fischer's Stock Farms and Fischer's Rentals. In the 1950s through the 1970s he developed Fischer's Cedar Crest Lake, a popular family recreation area. He was past Chairman of the Board of Citizen's National Bank in Tell City. He was an Army veteran of World War II and member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 213 and the Knights of Columbus Bishop Chartrand Council No. 1172. He was an honorary member of the American Red Cross. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Kuntz Fischer. 

Trudy Young Boling

HAWESVILLE -- Trudy Young Boling, 88, of Hawesville died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of the Hawesville Baptist Church. She retired from the Hancock County School System where she taught for 38 years at Hawesville Elementary and Hancock County Middle School. She attended Western Kentucky Teachers College and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was an active member of Hawesville Senior Citizens and a past member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 480. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Boling Sr. in 1978; and a daughter, Jane Boling-Hamilton in 1994. 

Yandel Haines

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Yandel Haines, 77, of Rockport died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at his home. He was born in Rockport. He retired as a carpenter in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of Carpenter Union Local No. 549, Owensboro VFW Post No. 696 and the Rockport-Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years. 

Donald Lee Williams

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Donald Lee Williams, 70, of Mount Pleasant, Ind., died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Magnet, Ind., and was a lifelong Perry County farmer. He was a 1948 graduate of Oil Township High School, an Army veteran who served from 1953 to 1955 and a member of Modern Woodmen of America. He was preceded in death by a grandchild.

GREENVILLE -- Joseph K. Long, 62, of Greenville died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was born in Greenville and was a professor of anthropology and an advocate of tolerance, social justice and the environment. He enjoyed the arts.

CALHOUN -- Joyce Bivens Hill, 57, of Glenville died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at her home. She was born in Daviess County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Glenville Baptist Church where she was a choir member for several years. She enjoyed cross-stitch, baking and decorating cakes and ceramics.

FORDSVILLE -- Mae Matthews Goodwin, 71, of 1401 Benton Ave., Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at her home. She was born in Fordsville and was a retired private duty nurse. She was a member of the Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Goodwin.

BEAVER DAM - Mollie B. Shultz, 84, formerly of the Prentiss community in Ohio County, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Lakeview Health Care in Morgantown. She was born in Cromwell and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Butler County and the Cromwell Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malloy Shultz on Nov. 17, 1974. 

Pearl D. Morgan

Pearl D. Morgan, 90, of 1801 Frederica St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Cadiz and taught school in Cadiz for 10 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and the P.T.A. at Longfellow Education Center, a lifelong member of the Family Y and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She enjoyed knitting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William G. Morgan in 1969.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Shirley Carl Devillez, 69, of Tell City died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was born in Tell City and was an Army veteran who served in Japan. He worked for Western Southern Life Insurance Co. and Shelly and Sands Construction Co. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939. 

Wendell G. Hatcher Sr.

Wendell G. Hatcher Sr., 58, of 528 Dieterle Drive S., Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Morgantown and retired from auto body repair. He was a member of the Baptist faith and enjoyed NASCAR, bluegrass music, bowling and playing cards.

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- William Earl Higdon, 72, of Bartlesville, formerly of Daviess County, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at his home. He was born in Daviess County and was an Army veteran. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and worked for National Zinc Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgene Fern Catlin Higdon on March 10, 1999; and a son, William Gene "Billy" Higdon on Aug. 23, 1995.

CENTRAL CITY -- Eugene Mallory, 82, of Sacramento died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and retired as a construction worker from the Civil Service Co. in Ohio. He was a member of the Holiness faith and was a veteran of World War II. 

Everett A. Rogier

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Everett A. Rogier, 84, of Tell City died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Leopold, Ind., and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He retired from the Tell City Chair Company in 1978 after 33 years of service and ran Dave's Place in Leopold, Ind., from 1978 to 1980. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Everett E. Hicks, 78, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, in Wichita Falls. He was born in McLean County and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a self-employed chef and was a member of Christ Gospel Church (Pentecostal). He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Drane in 1990; and a daughter, Judy Condor in 1977. 

Grace Whitler Lyons

HARDINSBURG -- Grace Whitler Lyons, 93, of Hardinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville. She was born in Breckinridge County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Murray Lyons in 1981; a son, Robert C. Lyons; and a daughter, Margaret Moore. 

Lucille Camfield Knight Watts

CENTRAL CITY -- Lucille Camfield Knight Watts, 91, of Ennis died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a retired teacher. She graduated from Rochester High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University; she taught at Riverside Rural School and Drakesboro Elementary School in Kentucky and at Black Oak School, Riverforest Elementary School and Hammond City Schools in Indiana. She was a member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter L. Knight.

RIDGECREST, Calif. -- Mary L. Webb, 77, of Ridgecrest, formerly of Whittier, Calif., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. She was born in Owensboro, was a homemaker and was actively involved in the Senior Ministry at Church of the Nazarene in Ridgecrest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Webb, in 1988.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Nathan M. Heisler, son of Lori Heisler of Tell City, was stillborn on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Samuel Andrew Richey, 61, of Bremen died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Carbondale (Ill.) Memorial Hospital of liver and kidney failure. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a Navy veteran of Vietnam who served from 1963 to 1967.

HARTFORD -- Sylvester Wedding, 91, of Beaver Dam died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born in Ohio County and retired as a supervisor from American Steel Foundry in Hammond, Ind. He attended Concord Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wilbur Wedding, in 1928.

Carye B. 'Sook' Abell

Carye B. "Sook" Abell, 98, of 5737 Kentucky 405, Thruston, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the Carmel Home in Owensboro. She was born in Daviess County and lived in Thruston all her life. She had been a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church since Nov. 10, 1911. She also was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist's Crossbearers Sunday school class and a member of the Thruston Homemakers' Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Abell, in 1963.

FORDSVILLE -- Edmund E. Sills, 67, of Fordsville died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his home. He was born in Danville, Ill., and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and Blind Veterans' Association. He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Wells and Douglas Wells.

Frederica Paxton Puryear Schultzman

PADUCAH -- Frederica Paxton Puryear Schultzman, 87, of Paducah died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her home. She was a member of St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church, the Paducah Music Club and the Paducah Magazine Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Schultzman; a son, David Frederick Schultzman; and a daughter, Frances Marian Schultzman Walter. 

Joseph 'Hulin' Mattingly Sr.

DANVILLE -- Joseph "Hulin" Mattingly Sr., 91, of Danville died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Mayfair Manor Nursing Home in Lexington. He was born in Owensboro and was a member of First Christian Church in Danville, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a retired auto dealer and real estate developer. He moved to Danville on July 1, 1939, where he co-founded Mattingly-Rapier Chevrolet Co. and co-developed subdivisions. He also helped organize Danville's Travelers' Protective Association and was its highest national membership writer in 1954. He served as War Bond chairman for three years during World War II and was a working member of the Danville Chamber of Commerce and its membership chairman for several years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Danville Country Club. 

Malinda M. Jarboe Bolin

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Malinda M. Jarboe Bolin, 95, of Cannelton died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Tell City, Ind. She was born in Tell City and retired from Perry County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Cannelton and was a former member of the church's Women's Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bolin, in 1950; two sons, Earl Bolin and Russell Bolin; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

LEXINGTON -- Marian Casebier Taylor, 71, of Lexington died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was born in Pattiville and retired from RCA in Marion, Ind., on Jan. 1, 1989. 

William Raymond Whitfield Jr.

William Raymond Whitfield Jr., 72, of 2543 Chant Court, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Alexandria, Va., retired as an airplane mechanic from Million Air and formerly was a charter pilot for Owensboro Aviation. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a Navy veteran of World War II who served on the USS Bristol.

CLOVERPORT -- Aliene Allen, 86, of Sample died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Medco Center of Brandenburg. She was born in Shrewsberry and was a member of the Sebree United Methodist Church. Her husband, John M. Allen, died on Oct. 12, 1972. 

Emma Lou Woolard

EVANSTON, Ind. -- Emma Lou Woolard, 79, of Evanston died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Professional Care in Dale, Ind. She was born in Evanston and was a clerk for the Spencer County Treasurer's Office, Family Services and Spencer County Republican Vice Chair Lady. She was also a co-owner and administrator of Professional Care Nursing Home in Dale. She was a member of Patronville United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing. Her husband, Donald Woolard, died in 1981.

CENTRAL CITY -- Harlan Allerson Pierce, 76, of Central City died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville. He was born in Ohio County, was of the Holiness denomination and was a retired logger.

JOLIET, Ill. -- James Saltsman, 75, of Joliet died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home. He was born in Utica and was a car salesman in Joliet for 35 years. He enjoyed auctions and collecting antiques.

John T. Troutman, 65, of Utica died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in McLean County, was employed with Carpenters & Joiners Union Local No. 549 and was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church.

ARCADIA, Fla. -- Walter L. Frakes, 77, of Arcadia died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia. He was born in Owensboro, was pastor of the Nazarene Church in Illinois, retiring in 1987, and taught fifth grade in Gilman Elementary School in Gilman, Ill. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, the DAV, was an ordained minister and an Army veteran of World War II.

HARDINSBURG -- William George Dunn, 82, of Hardinsburg died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Breckinridge Memorial Nursing Facility in Hardinsburg. He was born in Breckinridge County, retired from Los Angeles County, Calif., as a maintenance employee and was a member of Hardinsburg Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bob Dunn and Johnny Dunn. 

Wilma D. Dike

DALE, Ind. -- Wilma D. Dike, 85, of Dale died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Huntingburg Convalescent Center. She was born in Boonville, Ind., and was a member and organist at Dale United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Her husband, Marvin Drake, died on Oct. 24, 1989.

HARDINSBURG -- Anna Eliza Jolly Finney, 87, of Hardinsburg died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County, was a retired medical assistant in a physician's office and a hospital and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for 51 years.

He was born in Butler County, retired after 36 years of service from the Texas Gas Transmission Corp. of Owensboro and was a member of Sacramento Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of the Sacramento Pay Lake and enjoyed fishing and working in the outdoors.

HAWESVILLE -- Daisy Powers, 82, formerly of Hawesville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Heartland Villa in Lewisport. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and former owner of Kentucky Cardinal Restaurant in Hawesville. She was a former employee of the Breeze Inn Restaurant, Kozy Kitchen Restaurant and Bill's IGA in Hawesville. 

Edward D. Parker Sr.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Edward D. Parker Sr., 55, of Tell City died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of cancer. He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio; retired in 1999 from Indiana-Michigan Power in Rockport, Ind.; and had been an equipment operator for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Parker. 

Herman 'Randy' Clayton

Herman "Randy" Clayton, 58, of 760 Dove Court, Owensboro, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at his home. He was born in Daviess County, was a retired systems technician for a telephone company after 33 years of service and was an Air Force veteran. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and was self-employed with Advanced Communications. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Owensboro, Knights of Columbus in Sorgho and was involved actively with CWA. He served as president of Telephone Pioneers for two terms and enjoyed fishing, hunting and barbecuing. 

James 'Jimmy' Edward Warren

LEWISPORT -- James "Jimmy" Edward Warren, 40, of Lewisport died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at his home. He was born in Owensboro and retired from Tool Co. Inc. in Owensboro. He was a member of Lewisport Baptist Church and enjoyed NASCAR racing, deer hunting and the outdoors. 

Vivian V. Hill

Vivian V. Hill, 84, of 5058 Back Square Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in McLean County, was a homemaker and was a member of Third Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Ernest L. Hill, died in 1962.

UTICA -- James "Poke" Jackson, 67, of Utica died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home. He was born in Ohio County and was a retired welder. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed auto racing. His wife of 42 years, Ladonna Williamson Jackson, died March 7, 1999.

RICHLAND, Ind. -- Louis Temple Vance, 77, of Dallas, formerly of Richland, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Dallas. He was a welder. 

Luther G. Stephens

HATFIELD, Ind. -- Luther G. Stephens, 74, of Hatfield died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville of natural causes. He was a carpenter in heavy construction for Local 90 in Evansville. 

Marion Lee Browder

CLOVERPORT -- Marion Lee Browder, 58, of Tell City, Ind., formerly of Cloverport and Hawesville, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Cloverport, was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a riverboat pilot at Western Kentucky Energy Coleman Plant. He was a member of IBEW Local 1701 and Tell City American Legion Post 213.

EVANSVILLE -- Mary Louise Thompson, 79, of Cullman, Ala., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at her home. She was a homemaker. 

Nancy Brown

CENTRAL CITY -- Nancy Brown, 85, of Central City died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in Muhlenberg County, was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble Brown. 

Robert E. Humphreys Jr.

Robert E. Humphreys Jr., 78, of 2212 Bittel Road, Owensboro, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home. He was born in Beardon, Tenn., and was a retired attorney with Humphreys, Wilson, Johnson and Presser. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as lieutenant colonel in the occupation forces in Japan. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Law and a member of First Baptist Church. 

Robert G. Brooks

Robert G. Brooks, 73, of 1202 Independence Ave., Owensboro, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, retired from Thompson Homes as a carpenter and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion James L. Yates Post 9 and VFW Post 696. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
