Age 82 of Schererville, Indiana, formerly of Hammond, passed away on
Sunday, May 18, 2003 at home. She was born September 6th, 1920 in Baltimore,
Maryland, to Bernard and Edith (Fossler) Trautman. Preceded in death by
her husband, Joseph of 21 years, her parents, one sister, Anna (Howard)
Schneidle and leaves four step-children, Jane (Bub) Fentress of Dyer, Indiana,
Joseph Jr. (Margaret) of St. John, Kathy (Dave) Kohanyi of Schererville,
and Mike (Cheryl) of Valparaiso, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Alice McBride
of Hammond; one brother-in-law, Al Schuman of Largo, Florida; 8 grandchildren,
Tim Fentress of Laporte, Texas, Robyn Fentress of Laporte, Texas, Steve
Fentress of Woodville, Texas, Paula Molina of Laporte, Texas, Patrick McBride
of Highland, Stan Nawrocki of Schererville, and Michael & Patrick McBride

33 years of service. She was a graduate of Michigan City High School. She

was the past President of the Y.W.C.A. Edith enjoyed traveling, golfing,
needlepoint, and spending time with family and friends. She will be truly

FRANK BOUQUE
Age 85, of Hobart, passed away Monday, May 19, 2003. He was born March
21, 1918 in Moberly, MO to the late Irwin and Effie Mae (nee Cunningham)
Bouque and had been an area resident since 1937. Frank was a Roll Grinder
at U.S. Steel, retiring in 1983. He was an Elder of Christ Community Church,
a member of U.S. Steel Retirees, a former manager and active leader of
various Hobart baseball leagues. He was also a former President of the
Hobart Booster Club and was an avid Hobart Brickie football fan. He is
survived by his wife, Mary Jane (nee Goin); 4 sons, David (Susan) Bouque
of TN, Robert (Carol) Bouque of Elgin, IL, Joel (Bonnie) Donaldson of Portage
and Dennis (Jane) Donaldson of Greenville, SC; sister, Gertrude Nichols
of Westfield, NJ; 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many
loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Donaldson.

GEORGE H. STEPHENSON JR.
Age 76 of Wheatfield formerly of Portage, Indiana, passed away on Monday,
May 19, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1926 in
Arkadelphia, Arkansas to George and Lila (Hillyard) Stephenson. On October
10, 1947, he married Anna (Walker) in Jeffersonville, Indiana. George is
survived by his wife, Anna of 55 years; son, George (Linda) of Valparaiso;
daughter, Jean (Gary) Winters of Wheatfield; sister, Louise (Bill) Bilderback
of Princeton, Indiana; aunt, Alberta Hillyard; 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter,
4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father,
sister, Cleona Logsdon and uncle Russell Hillyard. George was a retired
Roll Turner from the USX Tube Works. George was a member of the 1st Church
of the Nazarene in Demotte. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

TN; 4 grandchildren, Cody, Bobbi, Cole & Mitchell; 3 sisters-in-law,

Committee, Ucharistic Ministry, member of the Lydia-Ruth Circle, church
choir, St. Joseph Soup Kitchen. She taught Sunday school 1st and 2nd grade
for 20 years. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels with her husband in Hessville,
known as Aunty Mel. She was dearly loved by many children. Memorials may

of the Calumet Area.
LAWRENCE J. RICE, SR.
Age 91 years, of Gary, IN passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003. Lawrence
was born to William and Matilda Rice in St. Louis, MO, on December 23,
1911. He retired in 1970 as Supervisor of the Brunswick Post Office Station
after a career that spanned over 40 years of dedicated service. Active
in civic and service organizations, Lawrence was a member and officer of
the Frontiers International, Inc., and a founding member of the Gary Frontiers.
He served as president of the Gary Municipal Airport Authority, was a member
of the Northern Indiana Political Action Association, and was secretary
for the Board of U.S. Civil Service Examiners. Lawrence was a 33rd degree
Mason with the King Solomon Lodge #57, Prince Hall Affiliation, and a Life
Member of the NAACP. Among his many recognitions, Lawrence was honored
by Governor Frank O'Bannon with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash
award, and was the recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver
award for exemplary service. Lawrence was an active supporter and Trustee
Emeritus of First A.M.E. Church, where he received the Man of Allen Award
in 2000 as the oldest male member. He is preceded in death by his loving
wife, Mary Lou, and a son, Paul. Lawrence is survived by two sons, Lawrence
Jr. (Audrey) Rice of Auburn Hills, MI, and Phillip (Delores Diane) Rice
of Merrillville, IN; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Rice of Crown Point, IN;
one sister, Rachelle Rice Burton of Rogers Park, IL; 9 grandchildren and
12 great-grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Nona Shootes. Lawrence was
a man of great wisdom and faith and will be dearly missed by his family.

HAMMOND.-Mrs. Clifford G. (Iva Irene) Olds, 79, of 7320 Tapper Ave.,
a native of Valparaiso and former Westville area resident, died Wednesday
at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. She was born in Valparaiso Jan.
28, 1893, a daughter of Marion and Eva (Martin) Curtis. She and her husband
resided on a farm at Westville until 1950. He preceded her in death. Two
brothers and a great-grandson also preceded her in death. She was a member
of United Covenant Presbyterian Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs.
George (Raychall) Hood of Hammond, Mrs. E. D. (Maryeva) Anderson of Great
Lakes, Ill., Mrs. Wm. Ruby Highland of North Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs.
Raymond (Dorothy) Lloyd of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew
Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with the Rev. John Eastwood officiating. Burial
