PEKIN -- A change in the burial site and additional employment information
have been received for August W. Lescher Jr., 97, of 14347 Mennonite Road.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schmidt-Haller
Funeral Parlors in East Peoria. Burial will be in Zion Evangelical United
Methodist Church Cemetery in Pekin.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Lescher worked as a farmer in the Tazewell County area and as a coal
miner.
He died Thursday, June 14, 2001.

of Delavan and Ipava.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley
Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Paul D. Balaban will officiate. Burial
will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

She was born Feb. 25, 1907, in Delavan to Gustav and Helena Reich Hartwig.
She married Eignar Roy Olson on June 29, 1929, in Delavan.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 12, 1971, in Ipava;
three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, including George F. (Mary)
Connett of East Peoria, who helped care for her.
Olson and her husband farmed near Ipava for many years. She also worked
as a nurse's aide at Mason District Hospital in Havana during the 1960s.
She retired in 1972.
She was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau and the Royal Neighbors
of America Camp 2750 in Mackinaw.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
Ralph Thomas
MASON CITY -- Ralph C. Thomas, 64, of 405 E. Jefferson, Apt. 11, died
at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center
in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home
in Havana. The Rev. Larry Rodgers will officiate. Cremation will be accorded
following services.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born July 24, 1935, in Easton to Raymond A. and Viola Vannaken
Thomas.
Surviving are one daughter, Royce (Paul) Skowronski of Buckeye, Ariz.;
two granddaughters, and three brothers, John Thomas of Easton, Carl Thomas
of Delavan and Delbert Thomas of Tremont.
Thomas worked as a construction supervisor for 23 years with Babcock
& Wilcox and McDermitt International, where he built hydroelectric
and fossil fuel power plants.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 674 and the Masonic Lodge, both
in Pekin.
James Buckley
HAVANA -- James E. Buckley, 73, of 609 N. Harpham St., died at 1:45
p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral
Home in Havana. The Rev. T. Wesley Burns will officiate. Burial will be
in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was born May 13, 1928, in Mason County to Charles B. and Nellie
Thomas Buckley.
Surviving are five brothers, Delbert (Judy) Buckley and Donald Buckley,
both of Havana, Herbert Buckley and Robert Buckley, both of Texas, and
Gerald Buckley of Aurora; three sisters, Wanda Cooper of Havana, Donna
Jason of Peoria and Bonnie Henderson of Canton; one half sister, Esther
DuChane of Topeka, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Buckley worked at various local restaurants and bowling alleys until
his retirement.
He was a member of the Havana Church of the Nazarene.
Ruth Thorne
HAVANA -- Ruth E. Thorne, 83, of 609 N. Harpham St., died at 4:53 a.m.
Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Mason District Hospital in Havana. She was formerly
of Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral
Home in Havana. The Rev. Randall Paine will officiate. Burial will be in
Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Charleston to Roy and Beatrice Clark
Chambers. She married Wilbur A. Thorne on March 24, 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 4, 2000, and one infant
daughter, Annette.
Surviving are two daughters, Rita Neiswinter of Savannah, Ga., and
Gail Swayne of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Thelma Langley of Phoenix, Ariz.;
several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one half brother, Jack
Chambers of Charleston, and one half sister, Marge Vawter of Oklahoma.
Thorne owned and operated Thorne Tax Service in Mason City for many
years.
Rolland Richardson
GENESEO -- Rolland J. "Rollie" Richardson, 78, of Geneseo, died Sunday,
June 17, 2001, at his residence. He was formerly of Pekin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wright Chapel,
Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 405 W. First St., Geneseo. The Rev.
David Bultemeier will officiate. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery
in Orion.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church
in Geneseo, or to the Kewanee Hospital Hospice.
He was born Dec. 9, 1922, in St. Louis to George W. and Lena Zabel
Richardson. He married Elsie A. Sturdevant on Sept. 20, 1942, in Orion.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Ann (Eugene) Hollon of Springfield,
Mo., and Ruth Burnett of Jacksonville, Ark.; three sons, Ned (Kay) Richardson
of Galva, Lee Richardson of Bristol, Conn., and Paul (Mandy) Richardson
of Peoria; 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one great-grandson.
Richardson was employed from 1943 to 1960 at the former IHC Farmall
Works in Rock Island, where he held various positions including timekeeper;
production planner; wage and classification analyst and labor relations
investigator. He later worked as a chief industrial engineer at the former
Moline Iron Workers and as a personnel manager and labor relations negotiator
at the former Buddy L. Corp. toy factories in East Moline and Neosho, Mo.
He also was a former real estate broker.
In 1970, he was employed by the Illinois Department of Labor as an
unemployment insurance claims adjudicator in the Rock Falls office. He
was appointed manager of the State Unemployment Insurance office in Pekin
in 1972 and worked there until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Geneseo and the
Henry County and Lee County Genealogical societies, and a former member
and director on the Foundation Board of the University United Methodist
Church in Peoria.
He also was a former member of the Illinois Adjudicators Association;
Pekin Community Concert Series Board; Illinois State Genealogical Society;
Ogle County Genealogical Society; Sunset Hills Country Club in Pekin and
the Geneseo Country Club.
He was an avid golfer.
Vivian Kitchell
SPARTA, Mo. -- Vivian May Kitchell, 74, of rural Sparta, died Tuesday,
June 12, 2001, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo., following
a long illness. She was formerly of Pekin.
Funeral services were held June 16 at Selmore Christian Church in Selmore,
Mo. The Rev. Dennis Rutledge officiated. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery.
Adams Funeral Home in Ozark, Mo., handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Selmore Christian Church.
She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Mackinaw to Arthur and Letha Gunion
Puterbaugh. She married the Rev. Conrad Kitchell on Aug. 12, 1956, in Pekin.
Surviving are her husband; three children, Kevin Lee Kitchell, at home,
Eric (Dawn) Kitchell of Washington, Mo., and Kathy Mays of Ozark; four
grandchildren; one sister, Lavonne (Donald) Meinen of Pekin; one brother,
Leslie "Bud" (Joanne) Puterbaugh of Roach, Mo.; several nieces and nephews,
and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
A homemaker, Kitchell had worked as an insurance underwriter and supported
her husband in his Christian ministry.
She was a member of the Selmore Christian Church and the TOPS Club
in Ozark.
She was a former member of First Christian Church in Pekin.
Harry Hoffert Sr.
SEDALIA, Mo. -- Harry Carl Hoffert Sr., 85, of Sedalia, died Sunday,
June 17, 2001, at Four Seasons Care Center in Sedalia.
Funeral services were held at 10 this morning at Ewing Funeral Home
in Sedalia. Mike Cormican, pastor, officiated. Burial will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Springfield,
Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United States Air Force Museum
Foundation.
He was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Beason, Ill., to Henry E. and Anna Balster
Hoffert. He married Eva Mae Hardy on Feb. 3, 1941, in St. Louis.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Harry C. Hoffert of Nixa, Mo.; two
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Hoffert of Pekin,
and one sister, Irma Ellis of Albuquerque, N.M.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one sister.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1939 and served in the South
Pacific from 1942 to 1943 with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War
II. He then served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea and Southeast Asia
from 1952 to 1957. He retired as a master sergeant from the Air Force in
1962 after 22 years of service.
Hoffert then worked for the Brunswick Corp. at Hilcrest Lanes from
1963 to 1968. He next worked for Palmer Tool Supply from 1968 to 1975.
He was a member of the Parkview Christian Church in Sedalia, Mo., and
Knobnoster Lodge 245 AF & AM in Knobnoster, Mo., where he was a Master
Mason.
Christine Nelson Barrett
EAST PEORIA -- Christine C. Nelson Barrett, 89, of 2325 Cole St., died
at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist
Church in Peoria. The Rev. Ritch Boerckel and the Rev. Alvin Gage will
officiate. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

in East Peoria.

She was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Salem, Mo., to Charles A. and Elizabeth
Jane Lough Nelson. She married James W. Barrett on May 29, 1938, in Salem.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 4, 1979, in Peoria.
Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn J. (Jim) Molzahn of Littleton,
Colo.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Jewell Radke
of St. Louis; two nieces and one nephew.
Barrett was a director and teacher for the Child Evangelism Fellowship
for 25 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria, where she served
on the State Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship for 30 years and taught
Sunday school; Bible school; training classes and women's Bible study classes
for more than 60 years. She also was a volunteer in many areas at the church.
David Malone
MINIER -- David Leon Malone, 63, of 307 S. Eastern Ave., died at 12:15
a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mackinaw United
Methodist Church. The Rev. Dan Powers will officiate. Burial will be in
Mackinaw Township Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haensel Funeral Home
in Mackinaw.

He was born April 23, 1938, in Marked Tree, Ark., to G. Robert and
Nettie M. Lillard Malone. He married Sharon E. Isaac on Aug. 26, 1959,
in Smithville, Ark.
Surviving are his wife; his mother of Sidney, Ark.; two sons, David
W. Malone and Bruce A. (Julia) Malone, both of Minier; one daughter, Patsy
(Randy) Davis of Mackinaw; four grandchildren; one brother, Bill Malone
of Sidney, Ark., and two sisters, Shire Haley of Zion, Ark., and Faye Cole
of Sidney, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Malone last worked for Troyer Seed in Minier as a laborer for 10 years.
He previously worked out of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin for 19 years.
He attended Mackinaw United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Armington Sportsmans Club.
Hazel Burgard
EAST PEORIA -- Hazel Burgard, 96, of 500 Centennial Drive, died at 9:55
a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Remmert Funeral
Home in East Peoria. The Rev. Chuck Wilcox will officiate. Burial will
be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Saint Francis Medical
Center Hospice in Peoria.
She was born Dec. 12, 1904, in Higbee, Mo., to Charles and Mary Ellen
Daniels Russell. She married Arthur LeRoy Burgard Sr. on Oct. 30, 1929,
in Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband in October of 1973 in Denver;
two sons; one grandson; two great-grandsons, and three brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Delores Lavaux of Washington; two grandsons;
four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Burgard worked for Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 27 years as
a machine operator, retiring on Jan. 1, 1969.
She was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club and the United Auto
Workers Local 974 Retirees Club in East Peoria.

DELAVAN -- Claude Wayne Plank, 56, of 807 Cedar St., died at 11:05 a.m.
Sunday, June 17, 2001, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Prairie
Rest Cemetery in Delavan, where military services will be conducted. The
Rev. Jim Thomas will officiate.

in Delavan.

He was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Pekin to Champ and Bertie Watkins Plank.
He married Phyllis Marshall on June 1, 1967, in Lincoln.

Town and one sister, Louise (Harry) Thompson of Emden.
He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Plank.
Plank was employed with Caterpillar Inc. in Morton.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving with the Air Police
during the Vietnam War.
He held membership in a Christian church.
Mattie Bloss
MORTON -- Mattie B. Bloss, 74, of 304 Paris Ave., died at 11:17 a.m.
Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Cremation has been accorded. No services will be held.

She was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Ethridge, Tenn., to Earl and Burma Jones
Brewer. She married Harry L. Bloss on Jan. 12, 1968, in East Peoria.
Surviving are her husband and one sister, Mary (Richard) Sladky of
Kingston, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Bloss worked at Caterpillar Inc. Parts Distribution Center in Morton
for 35 years, retiring in 1989 as an authorization analyst.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in East Peoria; Morton
Home Extension; Fondulac Ladies Golf League; Quail Meadows Nine Hole Golf
League, and the Knitting Guild of America.
