Thomas A. Abernathy 
Thomas A. Abernathy, 76, of Springfield died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center. 
He was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Sikes-ton, Mo., the son of Thomas Alexander and Annie Bowman Abernathy. 
Mr. Abernathy was a salesman for clothing manufacturers. He was a Mason and a member of the Shrine and Central Baptist Church. 
Surviving are his wife, Edith; two daughters, Charlsie Waleski of Mesa, Ariz., and Peggy A. Abernathy of Sedona, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Thompson Hunter of Johnston City and Nettie Jane Hackney of Troy, Mo.; several nieces and nephews. 
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church, with Dr. Roger Compton officiating.

Madge Hayes 
Madge Hayes, 95, of Jacksonville, formerly of Franklin, died Wednesday at Jacksonville Convalescent Center. 
She was born Jan. 17, 1898, in Hartland Community, south of Franklin, the daughter of John and Ella Hart Crawford. She married William Ear Hayes in 1916 in Jacksonville; he died in 1987. Also preceding her in death were a son, John Eldon; a brother, Raleigh Crawford; and two sisters, Estelle Seymour and Avis Chaudoin. 
Mrs. Hayes was a charter member of the Franklin American Legion Auxiliary, Franklin Rebekah Lodge and Franklin United Methodist Church. 
Surviving are a son, William Lendel Hayes of Springfield; two daughters, Jean Mullen of Moline and Janis Seymour of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Carmen Becker of Alexander and Irene Duffer of Jacksonville.

Clifford G. Woodruff 
Clifford G. Woodruff, 81, of Taylorville died at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. 
He was born May 23, 1911, in Jasonville, Ind., the son of Ernest and Minnie Thompson Woodruff. He married Iona Robinson in 1937 in Hymera, Ind. 
Preceding him in death were two sisters and three brothers. 
He was a member of Linton BPOE Lodge 866, AF&AM 721 of Dugger, Ind., Ansar Shrine and Consistory Scottish Rite. 
Surviving are his wife, Iona; two daughters, Mrs. Elaine Loyet of Festus and Mrs. Glenda Ann Buschon of Pawnee; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Bedwell of Jasonville, Ind., Mildred Howes of Indianapolis, Ind., and Norma Bemis of Greenwood, Ind. 
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Garden Chapel, Belleville, with the Rev. Kevin Keller officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Belleville.

Orville A. Baugher 
Orville A. Baugher, 55, of Greenview died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Hospice. 
He was born March 30, 1938, in Springfield, the son of Harold and Ruth Kern Baugher. Preceding him in death were a son and his father. 
Mr. Baugher was part owner and operator of Baugher Implement in Greenview. He was a member of the Fancy Prairie Presbyterian Church, Illinois Duck and Goose Association, Ducks Unlimited, Trappers' Association, Illinois Farm Bureau, Wildlife Forever and Society for the Preservation of Birds and Prey. 
Surviving are a son, Keith of Greenview; his mother, Ruth Baugher of Greenview; three brothers, Harold and Russell, both of Greenview, and George of Athens; two sisters, Annabelle Wood and Norma Cramer, both of Greenview; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Emma Frances Carroll, 83, of Litchfield, formerly of Springfield and Carlinville, died at 1:02 a.m. Thursday at Care Inn Convalescent Center, Litchfield. 
She was born Aug. 16, 1909, in Maryville, the daughter of Peter and Anna Chiarattina Ciochetti. She married Thomas W. Carroll in 1947 in Carlinville. Preceding her in death was a brother, John Ciochetti. 
Surviving are her husband, Thomas W.; three sons, Thomas A. Carroll of Litchfield, Billy Taylor of Bethalto and Robert Taylor of Niceville, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Colleen Weller of Litchfield and Mrs. John (Alice) Hayer of North Fort Myers, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Alice) Fassero of Springfield and Mrs. Reno (Doris) Alepra of Benld; several nieces and nephews.

Shannon Marie Flynn, infant daughter of Robert and Christina Baker Flynn of Springfield, died at 2:44 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Hospital.

Stanley E. Herndon, 80, of Springfield died Thursday at his residence. 
He was born Feb. 12, 1913, in Gilbertsville, Ky., the son of Jacob E. and Etta Y. Pace Herndon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 1989, and a sister. 
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Shirley Leonard of Springfield; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett of Calvert City, Ky.; two sisters, Ernestine Aihen of Pensacola, Fla., and Jean Sewell of Benton, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.

Isaac T. Witty 
Isaac Tomlin Witty, 65, of Pleasant Plains died Nov. 17, 1992, in Woodland, Calif. 
He was born Dec. 19, 1926, the son of the late Horace and Helen Witty. 
Mr. Witty was a farmer and cattleman all of his life. He was a World War II veteran and attended Illinois Wesleyan College. 
Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne M. Brinsfield of Woodland, Calif., and Debra J. Witty of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, David Y. of Taiwan; and two sisters, Barbara Erickson of Rockford and Ruth Ann Kelsey of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Paul T. Harvey 
Paul T. "Vinegar Hill" Harvey, 79, of Loami died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Hospital North. 
He was born in Curran Township on April 2, 1914, the son of Lee and Stella Fudge Harvey. He married the former Oleta L. Edwards in 1936 in Warrensburg. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1989; a great grandson; a brother, Perry; and a sister, Evelyn. 
Mr. Harvey farmed in the Loami area most of his life, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Loami Christian Church since 1928, AARP, the Ed Walk Memorial Sportsmen's Club, and the Sangamon County Farm Bureau. 
Surviving are his son, LaVerne of Girard; two daughters, Esther Sue Stewart of Springfield and Pauline Owens of Virden; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Pearl Edwards and Myrtle Brunk, both of Virden, Pansy Miller of Carlinville and Mattie Hartley of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. 
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Loami Christian Church, with the Rev. Charles Duggins officiating. Interment will be in Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Loami.

Jeanne Vespa 
Jeanne Vespa, 64, of Springfield died at 7:56 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Medical Center. 
She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Pana, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Hilliard Flesch. She married John (Jack) Vespa in 1959 in Springfield. Preceding her in death was a sister, Betty Hahn. 
Mrs. Vespa was the secretary for Church of the Little Flower. She was a member of Church of the Little Flower, Horizons Unlimited and St. Theresa's Guild. 
Surviving are three sons, Jack of Salt Lake City, Utah, Larry of Chesapeake, Va., and Steven of Springfield; two daughters, Julianne Lord of Norfolk, Va., and Mary Beth Vespa of Springfield; two grandchildren; a sister, Helen Kolis of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousin.

Billy Ray Smith, 54, of Springfield died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday at Memorial Medical Center. 
He was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Columbia, Ky., the son of George Robert and Etter Lou Sneed Smith. He married Ann M. Doyle in 1993. He was preceded in death by two sons, William Ray and Robert Dale; a brother, Paul Junior; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Smith. 
Mr. Smith was employed at Magna Bank as a security officer for the past 15 years. He had lived in Springfield most of his life. 
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Debra Sue Hamilton and Mrs. Tamera J. Mundy, both of Springfield, and Juanita L. Smith of Greenview; two sons, Michael Joe of Riverton and Mark Anthony of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Peggy S. Newtson, Bonnie L. Henry and Catherine L. Jacobs, all of Springfield; three brothers, John T. of Edinburg, George A. and James W., both of Springfield; an aunt and two uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cecil F. Kennedy Sr. 
Cecil F. Kennedy Sr., 85, of Springfield died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Medical Center. 
He was born Oct. 1, 1907, in Petersburg, the son of Orrison H. and Rosa Lee Bast Kennedy. He married Beulah Stearns in 1931 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by a grandson; two sisters, Velda Garey and Henrietta Lamb; and two brothers, Irving and Ted. 
Mr. Kennedy was a retired operating engineer. He was a member of South Side Christian Church and Operating Engineers Local 965. Surviving are his wife, Beulah; two sons, Cecil W. and Oren H., both of Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Norma) Emmons of Springfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn McCormick of Blanchard, Okla., and Guy McCormick of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Jessie) Amend and Nadine Petroski, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret M. Fassero 
Margaret M. Fassero, 79, of Wilsonville died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday in Springfield. 
She was born March 22, 1914, in Virden, the daughter of Martin and Marie Henri Borella. She married Joseph Fassero in 1934 in Springfield, and he died in 1971. Also preceding her in death were six brothers and two sisters. 
Mrs. Fassero was a former licensed practical nurse, retiring from Weatherford Nursing Home in Carlinville. 
Surviving are a son, Joseph M. of Bellevue, Neb.; three daughters, Angie M. Wilson of San Jose, Calif., Norma J. Dougherty and Frances K. Yocum, both of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Tony Borella, and a sister, Mary Davis, both of Virden.

Robert L. Miller Jr. 
Robert L. "Bud" Miller Jr., 57, of Springfield died at 11:01 p.m. Friday at St. John's Hospital. 
He was born March 21, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Robert L. Sr. and Avis Lucille Field Miller. He married Beverly DeCroix in 1954. Mr. Miller had been a lifelong resident of Springfield and was employed as a truck driver for Henry Nelch and Son for 20 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 916. Surviving are his wife, Beverly "Bev"; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Vickie) Anders of Riverton and Pam Miller at home; two sons, Len and Ronny, both of Springfield; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Norman (Dorothy) Skeeters, Mrs. Don (Pat) Viele and Mrs. Jim (Linda) Lyons, all of Springfield; four brothers, Thomas and Jerry, both of Florida, and Kenneth and Dave, both of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sister Beatrice Bushell 
Sister Beatrice Bushell, O.S.U., 82, of Alton, formerly of Springfield, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at the Queen of Peace Ursuline Infirmary in Alton.   She was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Granite City, the daughter of John and Theresa Dillon Bushell. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John of Granite City and Bill of Dallas.   Sister Bushell entered Ursuline Community in 1927 and professed her vows on July 3, 1929. She taught at Blessed Sacrament and St. Aloysius elementary schools in Springfield as well as schools in Downer's Grove, Oak Park and Granite City. She served for several years in the Resource Center at Ursuline Academy and in the Reading Lab at Springfield College in Illinois.

Kent D. Mayberry 
Kent DeWayne Mayberry, 61, of Naperville died Saturday in Naperville. 
He was born Nov. 13, 1931, at Pisgah, the son of Kent M. and Cleo Bottom Mayberry. He married Glenna Poggenpohl in 1961 in Mount Sterling. Mr. Mayberry attended Waverly schools and the University of Texas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. For 14 years he was the plant manager for the Central Ink and Chemical Company in West Chicago. 
Surviving are his wife; a son, Kyle of Naperville; two daughters, Kelly Thompson and Kristen Mayberry, both of Naperville; two granddaughters; mother, Mrs. Cleo Mayberry of Waverly; and a sister, Norma Scaife of Springfield.

CARLINVILLE -- Mary L. Seifried, 50, of Carlinville died at 3:02 a.m. Sunday at Carlinville Area Hospital. 
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Targhetta Funeral Home in Shipman. Burial will be in Shipman Cemetery. 
Surviving are two sons, Wallace Stepp and Dennis Stepp, both of Carlinville; a daughter, Sandra Dunn of Carlinville; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Edward Roderick of Minnesota; two sisters, Barbara Gavinski and Andrea Makowski, both of Milwauke, Wis.  - State Journal-Register (Springfield, IL)  May 24, 1993
