He was vice president of American Commercial Barge Lines, and was honored upon his retirement in 1974 by having a towboat named for him. He was a president of the St. Louis Propeller Club, and served as a director of the Alton Museum of History and Art, and was a trustee of the Hayner Public Library. Hilda M. Benedek Flotho Ruedin, of Alton, died Jan. 29, 1998, in Eldercare of Alton. She is survived by her husband, Roger Ruedin. Also surviving are a son, William Flotho; a daughter, Janice Childers; a step-son, Richard Ruedin of Godfrey; and a step-daughter, Rosemary Finch. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis. Roger Richard Ruedin, 86, of Alton, died Feb. 17, 2000, in his home. He married Bernice Winslade, who preceded him in death, and then Hilda Flotho, who preceded him in death. He was a member of the former Piasa Bird Council, B.S.A., a 32nd degree Mason, and the Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis. Surviving are a son, Richard of Godfrey; a daughter, Rosemary Finch of Ponca City, Ok.; and a brother, Paul of Alton. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. He was supervisor of Ruyle Township for 32 years, and a director of Jerseyville Mutual Insurance and of Farmer's State Bank of Medora. Surviving are sons, Tommy of Jerseyville, Bill and Robert, both of Medora, and Clifford of Fidelity, and 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Services were through Targhetta in Medora.
