Dennis E. Katzel 
Age 63 of Round Lake, passed away at his home on Sept. 18, 2002. He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for AT&T. 

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sandra Kay (nee Newvine) Katzel, and his children, Mark Katzel of Round Lake Beach, Renee' (Jaun) Diaz of Round Lake and Dennis E. Katzel II of Ingleside; grandchildren; great-grandson; brother, sisters and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine (nee Weyforth) and Earl Katzel. 

Funeral service was held Sept. 21 at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium Ltd. In Grayslake. Friends visited at the funeral chapel from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family c/o Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. 

Billie L. Sinkhorn 
Age 70 of Round Lake, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 at the Pebblebrook Health Care Center in Lake Bluff. 

Surviving are her son, Wendell Sinkhorn of Napoleon; a brother, George (Betty) Dugger of Laurel County, Ky. And a nephew, Charles (Alice) Dugger of Round Lake. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie Eugene Sinkhorn in 1996. 

Visitation and funeral service was held Sept. 21 in Corbin Ky. With interment in Brown Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. 

Ruby M. Dorfler 
Age 88, a longtime resident of Cedar Village in Lake Villa passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002 at Winchester House in Libertyville. 

She is survived by her son Frank (Darlene) Dorfler; her grandchildren; great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Dorfler in 1989, daughter, Mary Ann Wells and brothers and sisters. 

The funeral mass was held Sept. 20 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church (Fremont Center, small church) in Mundelein. Rev. Fr. Ronald J. Lewinski, pastor will be celebrant. Interment immediately followed the mass at St. Mary Church Cemetery. Friends of the family gathered at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in Grayslake on Sept. 19. Memorials may be directed to either the Lake Villa Rescue Squad, 221 Lake Ave., Lake Villa, IL 60046 and/or Winchester House, 1125 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048. 

Sandra W. Wasserman 
Age 56 of Bristol, Wis. passed away at Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center in Kenosha, Wis. on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She loved baseball and bingo. 

She is survived by her husband, Ira; her mother, Ellen Petersen of Lake Villa; her sisters; sister-in-law and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Leonard Schneider; her step-father, William Petersen and her sister. 

Funeral arrangements were private and under the care of Ringa Funeral Home in Lake Villa. 

Christopher William Bilharz 
Age 34 of Lake Bluff, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. 

He is survived by his fiancee' Patsy Drell of Libertyville; his mother, Ann Bilharz of Lake Bluff; his brother, Ted (Stacy) Bilharz of Green Oaks and sister, Alexandra (fiance', Kyle Kitchens) Wells of Fort Meyers, Fla.; nephew and nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodor F. Bilharz Sr. in 1992. 

A memorial service was held Sept. 21 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. Visitation of family and friends was on Sept. 21 from 1-4 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. 

Theodore O. 'Ted' Abraham 
Age 68 of Vernon Hills, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Libertyville and of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Chicago. 

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Abraham of Vernon Hills; four children, Ted (Bridget) Abraham of Libertyville, Linda (Joseph) Greco of Buffalo Grove, Richard (Terri) Abraham of Chicago and Charles (Andree) Abraham of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, and his sister. He is preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jonathan and Maggie. 

Funeral service was held Sept. 20 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Libertyville with Pastor Gordon Cavers officiating. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation was on Sept. 19 from 5-9 p.m. at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be made to either Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy or the American Diabetes Assn. 

Ann E. Czosek Zischke 
Age 89 of Libertyville, passed away on Aug. 11, 2002 at Long Grove Manor Nursing Home. In 1932. She married Erwin R. Czosek in Chicago after 47 years of marriage, he died in 1979. She later married Arthur Zischke, who died in 1994. 

Ann is survived by her son, Irwin (Marilynn) Czosek of Libertyville; five grandchildren, David (Janet) Czosek of Vernon Hills, Linda (Daniel) Harriman of Round Rock, Tex., Gary (Suzanne) Czosek of Wadsworth, Janet (Michael) Skalitzky of Kenosha, Wis. and Paul (Jennifer) Czosek of Gurnee and 12 great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m., Sept. 22 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. 

Frank J. 'Shorty' Moser 
Age 86 of Antioch passed away in Kenosha, Wis. on Sept. 17, 2002. He was the Northern Lake County Cemetery Sexton, a member of the Antioch Moose Lodge and was a former trustee of the Antioch Fire Dept. 

He was the devoted husband of Freya (nee Edlmann) Moser whom he wed on Nov. 15, 1945 in Texarkana, Tex. He was the loving father of Frank R. (Dorothy) Moser of Garden Prairie, Christine Moser of Waukegan and Michelle Bailey of Trevor, Wis.; grandfather of Frank J. and Christopher Moser and Savana Bailey. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and is preceded in death by his son, John Moser who died in 1973. 

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake. Visitation of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Rescue Squad, 825 Holbek Dr., Antioch, IL 60002. 

Paul H. 'Koop' Smyth III 
Age 73, a resident of Third Lake, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Ruth Presbyterian St. Luke in Chicago. He was best known as the owner of the Grayslake Car Wash and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. 

He is survived by his wife, Edna M. Smyth; children, Timothy Paul (Sandi) Smyth, Michael Paul (Pilar) Smyth, Robert Paul (Evelyn) Smyth and Eric Paul (Rosie) Smyth and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Anna (Tom) Schroeder. Paul is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert (Beanie). 

Funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake with Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman officiating. Interment will be private. Friends of the family may visit from 4-8 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the Grayslake Fire Department, 160 Hawley St., Grayslake, IL 60030. 

Tarra Elizabeth Nicole Buchanan Knoch 
Age 4 of Great Lakes, passed away at home on Sept. 15, 2002. She was born Aug. 30, 1998, in Silver Spring, Md. 

Survivors includes her parents, Sharon and DK1 Anthony Knoch of Great Lakes; two brothers, Tyler and Bryce and a sister, Courtney. 

Funeral service was held Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Symonds-Lakes Funeral Home in Grayslake. Interment was private. Friends called at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. 

Laura Leona Koch 
Age 85 of Highland Park, passed away Sept. 20, 2002 at the Highland Park Hospital. She was born Feb. 5, 1917 in Britt, Iowa. 

Survivors include one son, Dwight Koch of Spring Grove; one daughter, Valerie (Tom) Williams of Libertyville and one sister, Helen Klapterich of Faribault, Minn. 

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Rd., Highland Park Friends may call on Sept. 28 after 4 p.m. till the time of services. Interment will be private in Highwood. Contributions to ENH Hospice, 5215 Old Orchard Rd., No. 200, Skokie, IL 60077 will be appreciated. 

Gregory H. Guntharp Sr. 
Age 50 of Spring Grove, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. Deputy Chief Guntharp served the Lake County Sheriff's Dept. for 28 years. 

Greg was the husband of Sandra Guntharp of Spring Grove; father of Amy (Olda) Kubes of Round Lake, Gregory H. (Kristina) Guntharp Jr. of Antioch, Jim (Diane) Faller of Ingleside, Lori (Eric) Schevikhoven of Antioch and Joe (Becki) Faller of Johnsburg. Greg was the son of Phyllis Guntharp of Fulton, Ms. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren (No. 12 due in October); two brothers and many other friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his father, Travis Guntharp and a niece. 

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at the Chain of Lakes Community Church in Antioch. Interment was held at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Friends of the family visited from 4-8 p.m., Sept. 24 at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium Ltd., in Grayslake. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to Lung Cancer Research, 3000 Kelly Ln., Springfield, IL 62707. 

Brian C. Vermilyer 
Age 15 of Bristol, Wis., passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at his home. He attended Central High School in Paddock Lake, Wis. and was a member of the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church in Antioch. 

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Brad at home; his maternal grandparents, Patricia (James) Bucchianeri of Addison and Edward (Joyce) Slowik of Peoria, Ariz.; his paternal grandmother, Joyce Vermilyer of Melrose Park; his great grandmothers, Ann Mullen and Ann Swider and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Funeral service was held Sept. 25 at the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church in Antioch. Interment was private in Liberty Cemetery in Salem Township, Wis. Friends called at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch on Sept. 24 and at the church on Sept. 25 from 1 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Mulliganeers Giving Kids a Second Chance, P.O. Box 111, Palatine, IL 60078 will be appreciated. 

Bettelou Davic (nee Heidenreich) 
Age 74 of Grayslake, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at her residence. She was born Feb. 7, 1928 in Chicago. She was the former owner of Bills Tavern (currently known as Charlie's) until 1984 and was also a member and past president of the Grayslake American Legion Auxiliary #659. 

Survivors include her children, Barbara (Ron) Goemaat of Lexington, IA and Beverly DePierno of Gages Lake; Grandchildren Ronda (Bryan) Duncan of Glenview and Eric (Lisa) Goemaat of Leighton; great grandchildren Colten and Mackenna Goemaat. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Davis, whom she wed on June 14, 1947 in Lyndon. He preceded her on May 13, 2001. 

Funeral services were held on Sept. 26 at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium in Grayslake. Interment followed at Avon Centre Cemetery in Grayslake. Friends of the family visited from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grayslake Fire Dept., 160 W. Hawley St., Grayslake, Ill 60030. 

Charles John Laurance 
Age 50 of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at his home. He was born Feb. 7, 1952 in Berlin, Germany. He was a 1970 graduate of Libertyville High School. 

He was the husband of Linda (nee Hendon) Laurance; father of Nichole Wright; son of Oscar and Edna Laurance of Libertyville and Walli Goldfub of Germany; and brother of Robert Laurance of Libertyville and many other relatives, friends and coworkers. 

Funeral service was held Sept. 16 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, Libertyville. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sept. 15. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2221 Rosecrans Ave., No. 131, El Segundo, Calif. 90245. 

Margaret C. Merkel (nee See) 
Age 103 of Gurnee, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. She was born in Adams, Minn. On Oct. 20, 1899. She met and married Anton A. Merkel in Marshfield, Wisc., who preceded her in death in August 1984. 

She and her husband were charter and active members of St. Gilbert Church of Grayslake and she was also active in the Lake County Homemakers Club. 

She is survived by her two sons and six daughters: Vincent (Verna) Merkel of Arbor Vitae, Wisc., Thomas (Dee) Merkel of Gurnee, Bernice (Raymond) Fincutter of Elkhorn, Wisc., Joan (Raymond) Williams of East Moline, Mary (the late John) Callanan of Grayslake, Lois (Carl) Pflieger of Falls Church, Virg., Margaret (Richard) Finely of Lindenhurst; Carol (Gary) Haskell of Johnsburg; 43 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a daughter-in-law, Iona Merkel of Grayslake. She was preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters and her sons Jerome and James. 

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Gilbert's Catholic Church in Grayslake. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends of the family may visit from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium in Grayslake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be given to the St. Gilbert Vision for the Future, 301 E.
