KATHRYN DEFENBAUGH

A funeral service was held for Des Plaines resident Kathryn Defenbaugh,
74, on Monday, Oct. 29 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Des Plaines.
Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, IL. Visitation was
held on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
Mrs. Defenbaugh died on Friday, Oct. 26 in her home. She was born on
Jan. 18, 1927 in LaGrange. She received a Bachelor¹s degree in Education
from Elmhurst College and a Master¹s in social work from the University
of Chicago.
Mrs. Defenbaugh is survived by her sons Ralph (Deborah), John; daughters
Patricia (Mark) Malartsik, Diane (Steven) Real; and 10 grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband Ralph.
Mrs. Defenbaugh was a homemaker, very active at St. Martin¹s Episcopal
Church, a member of the League of Women Voters, A.A.U.W. and S.S.A.
HERMAN O. BURMEISTER
In Trucking Business
A funeral service was held for Des Plaines resident Herman O. Burmeister,
91, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Des Plaines, on Oct. 29. Burial followed
at Union Ridge Cemetery, Chicago. Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 29
at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
Mr. Burmeister died on Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Oakton Pavilion Nursing
Home, Des Plaines.
He is survived by his brother Arthur (Ardelle); sisters, Ardelle Krecke,
Lillian Henk, Helen Utpadel, Edna (Lyle) Burmeister; and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward and his wife
Dorothy, Walter (Ann); his sister, Elsie and her husband Harold Blume.
Mr. Burmeister was in the trucking business for many years.
GREGORIA MAGSINO
Des Plaines resident
A funeral service was held for Gregoria Magsino, 88, of Des Plaines
on Thursday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m. Interment was at the Himlayan Cemetery in
Quezon City, Philippines. Visitation was held on Thursday, Oct. 18, at
Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Homes, Niles.
Ms. Magsino died on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Holy Family Medical Center.
She was survived by other family members and friends.
EDWARD F. GRAHAM, SR.
Des Plaines resident
A funeral mass for Edward F. Graham, Sr., 70, Des Plaines resident,
was celebrated at St. Mary Church, Des Plaines on Saturday, Oct. 27 at
10 a.m.. Burial followed at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation
was held Friday, Oct. 26, 3 to 9 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
Mr. Graham, Sr. died on Tuesday, Oct. 23. He is survived by his wife
Norma; his son, Edward F., Jr.; his brothers, John A. (Bert) and Kenneth
(Jane); grandchildren, Amy and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews. He was
a sales person for 55 years in the clothing and shoe industry. He was
a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club #1526
and served as their Chaplin for 5 years. He was also a member of the VFW
Post of Des Plaines #2992 and the American Legion Post of Des Plaines #36.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society appreciated.
WILLIAM M. HICKEY
Head of Accounting
A funeral mass was celebrated for William M. Hickey, 73, a Des Plaines
resident, at St. Zachary Church, Des Plaines, Oct. 30. Interment was held
in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 29,
at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
Mr. Hickey died on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Chicago. He is survived by
his wife Dorothy (nee Duncan); son James; daughters Eileen (Larry) Ferguson,
Mary (Frank) Rullo; sister Mary Foreman; godchild Daniel Forman; five grandchildren:
Julie and Michael Ferguson, Mollie and Ryan Hickey, Megan Rullo. He was
preceded in death by his brother John Foreman.
Mr. Hickey worked for over 40 years as director of corporate accounting
for International Harvester.
JUANITA J. BEAVER
Park Ridge Resident
A Funeral mass for Juanita J. Beaver, 87, was celebrated on Monday,
Oct. 22, 1 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment in Irving Park Cemetery.
Visitation was on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2-5 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beaver is survived by her husband Melvin; 3 sons, Melvin (Patricia)
Beaver, Richard (Eileen) Beaver, Gerry Beaver; 1 daughter, Marilou Epifano,
3 grandchildren, Kyle, Kerri and Michael and 3 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Beaver was a homemaker and active in the 41st Ward Republican
Women's Organization for many years.

HALINA ELIZABETH MAJ
Medical Librarian
A memorial mass for Park Ridge resident Halina Elizabeth Maj, 48, will
be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 9:30 a.m., at St. Paul of the Cross Church.
She died on Oct. 25 in her Park Ridge home.
Interment will be private. Arrangements were handled by Ryan-Park
Funeral Home, Park Ridge.
Ms. Maj worked as a medical librarian at Holy Family Hospital in Des
Plaines. She is survived by her parents, Tadeusz and Mary Maj and her brother
Nicholas.
CAROLINE ANN LUCARELLI
A Homemaker
A funeral mass for Caroline Ann Lucarelli, 91, formerly of Park Ridge,
was celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park
Ridge. Entombment followed in St. Joseph Mausoleum, River Grove, IL.
Visitation was held at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge.
Mrs. Lucarelli was born in Chicago and she died on Oct. 23, in Lake
Geneva, WI. She is survived by her son, Michael (Rosalie); grandchildren,
Catherine (Danny) Shaughnessy, John (Julie) and Michael Lucarelli; great-grandchildren,
Kirstin, James, Patrick, Michael and Gianna; siblings, Susan Calo, Joseph
and Paul Miresse and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her husband John.

Arlington Heights resident
A funeral service was held for Arlington Hts. resident John Paszkiet,
75, at Our Lady of the Wayside on Monday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Interment
followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. Visitation was on Sunday, Oct.
14 at the Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Niles.
Mr. Paszkiet died on Friday, Oct. 12 at Northwest Community Hospital
in Arlington Heights.
Mr. Paszkiet was a tool & die machinist and a Navy Veteran from
World War II.
ROSEMARY E. RODEN
Formerly of Mt. Prospect
A funeral service for Rosemary E. Roden, 73, formerly of Mt. Prospect,
was held on Oct. 27 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Burial followed
at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was also held on Oct.
27 at Oehler Funeral Home.
Ms. Roden died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Holy Family Medical Center
in Des Plaines. She is survived by her sons Robert, Fred (Susan), James
(Janet); daughter, Kathleen (Henry) Fischer; four grandchildren: Joshua
and Carly Fischer, Jonathan and Jared Roden.
THERESA RILL
Park Ridge Pianist
A gravesite service for Theresa M. Rill, a former Park Ridge resident,
legal secretary, and accomplished pianist, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Nov. 10, at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. Arrangements are by Ryan-Parke
Funeral Home, Park Ridge.
A native of Austria who emigrated to America in 1920, she died Oct.
22 in the Admiral Nursing Home in Chicago at the age of 90. After growing
up in Chicago, she lived in Park Ridge for many years.
For 50 years, she was an administrative assistant to the hiring partner
of Baker & McKenzie, one of the largest law firms in the world.
She and her brother, Michael, both studied music in Chicago under the
direction of Viennese immigrants. She became a talented pianist, and Michael
was a violinist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1976, she traveled every other summer to the Salzburg Music Festival
in Austria, her most recent trip taking place three years ago. "She will
always be remembered for her gracious nature, her love of music, books,
and literature, and most of all her love for her family," a relative said.
She is survived by her nieces, Judi Rill of San Francisco, Barbara
Grunze and husband Lyn of Houston, nephew Michael W. Rill of Chicago, and
grand-niece Erin Grunze of Houston.
MABEL A. FRANA
Past Owner, The Log Cabin
Funeral Services for Mabel A. (Volberding) Frana, 85, of Des Plaines
will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee
St., Des Plaines. Interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines.
Visitation will be held today at 3 p.m. at Oehler.
Mrs. Frana died on Nov. 3 at her residence. She was born on April 11,
1916, and was a life-long resident of Des Plaines. She was owner of The
Log Cabin in Des Plaines from 1949 to 1997.
She was a past member of the Ladies of the Elks Des Plaines Lodge 1526,
and was a life member of the Illinois License Beverage Association and
of Christ Church.
She loved her flower garden and sewing.
She is survived by sons, John F. (Jean) Frana of Rockford, and Jerry
L. (Linda) Frana of Dixon; daughter, Barbara M. (John) Nix of Des Plaines;
brother, Louis (Joan) Volberding of Des Plaines; sisters, Golda Wolstenholm,
Myrtle McCarthy, Marian (James) Doherty, all of Des Plaines, Blanche (William)
Schug of Palatine, Lorraine Grupe of Carpentersville; grandchildren, John
and Joseph (Kathy) Nix, and John, Jeffrey and David Frana; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, first, Carl Wigh, and later,
John F. Frana. She was also preceded by her brother Herbert Volberding,
a past mayor of Des Plaines; and by a sister, Dorothy Homeyer.
Memorials may be made to Christ Church, United Church of Christ or
Rainbow Hospice.
PETER NICKLES
Active Member of the Des Plaines Senior Center
A funeral mass for Peter Nickles, 70, of Des Plaines, will be celebrated
at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Des Plaines on Wednesday,
Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Palines.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines.
A native of Chicago and a retired insurance adjuster for Blue Cross
Blue Shield as well an active member of the Des Plaines Senior Center and
an avid life-long Cubs fan, Mr. Nickles died on Saturday, Nov. 3 at his
home in Des Plaines.
Mr. Nickles is survived by his wife, Rosemary nee Ropinske; his sons,
Tom (Joan) Rembacz and Paul; his daughter, Carol; his sister Constance
(late Thomas) Pappas; grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan and Sarah and many nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Nick (Helene) Nickles.

JOSEPH C. AUFMANN
Linotype Operator, Machinist
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Joseph C. Aufmann of Des Plaines
at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Church. Visitation will be held
on Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St.
in Des Plaines.
Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
Mr. Aufmann died on Nov. 4, 2001, at Resurrection Hospital. He was
born on Aug. 13, 1909, in Chicago and was a linotype operator-machinist
for Eddie Price Typographical.
He is survived by sons, James (Lois) Aufmann of Fox Lake, and Thomas
(Kristin) Aufmann of Palatine; daughters, Barbara (the late Donald) Ridenour
Johnsburg, and Dorothy (Donald) Ryckaert-Johnsburg; sister, Gertrude Ostertag;
14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Mr. Aufmann was preceded in
death by his wife, Pearl (Kurth); son, Joseph (the late Betsy); brother,
Frederick Aufmann; and sister, Catherine Culkeen.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
ELIZABETH V. STECHER
Member of Mary , Seat of Wisdom Church in Park Ridge
A Funeral mass for Elizabeth V. Stecher, 86, longtime Park Ridge resident,
was celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church, Park
Ridge. Prior to the mass there were prayers at Nelson Funeral Home, Park
Ridge. Entombment was held at St. Adalbert Cemetery, in Niles.
Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 5 at Nelson Funeral Home in Park
Ridge.
Mrs. Stecher died on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago.
She was born Jan. 3, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Rose Banach.
She married Adolph "Tony" Stecher on April 19, 1941 in Chicago. Prior to
her retirement, Mrs. Stecher was an insurance adjuster for the Aetna Insurance
Co. She was also a member of Mary , Seat of Wisdom Church in Park Ridge.
She is survived by her husband, Adolph "Tony" Stecher; son, Lee (Cynthia)
Stecher; grandson, Jeffrey Stecher. She was preceded in death by her parents.
LYLE J. VITACCA
Longtime Park Ridge resident
A funeral mass was celebrated for Lyle J. Vitacca, 65, a longtime Park
Ridge resident, on Saturday, Nov. 3 at St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park
Ridge. Fr. Neil Fackler was the celebrant. Interment followed in Town of
Maine Cemetery, Park Ridge. The Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge handled
arrangements.
Mr. Vitacca passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in Lutheran General Hospital,
Park Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Terri (Chris)
Biggins, Rocco (Jennifer) Vitacca, Brenda (Brad) Covey and Chris (Tracy)
Colon; 8 grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Rocco Vittaca. |
