Born April 22, 1912, she died Monday, July 13, 1998, at St.James Hospital, Chicago Heights, after a shortillness.Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. 
A resident of Chicago Heights for 80 years, Mrs.Patrizi had attended St.Joseph School and Bloom High School in Chicago Heights.Along with her late husband, Americo `Middy' Patrizi, she was the owner and operator of several businesses in Chicago Heights, including the Southwater Vegetable and Fruit Market, Middy's Food Shop, R.& M.Sales, and the Ace Budget Center, before her retirement in 1978. 
Mrs.Patrizi was also a member of the St.Joseph's Ladies Rosary Sodality. 
Surviving are her daughter, Bernice(Joseph) Dee of Chicago Heights; sons, Ronald (Donna) Patrizi of Frankfort, Ill.and David (Paula) Patrizi of Crystal Lake; sister, Rose Zaner of Chicago Heights; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Americo `Middy' Patrizi; and sisters, Lillian Montesonti and Ann Lobue. 
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home, with the Rosary recited by the St.Joseph's Ladies Rosary Sodality at 6:30 p.m.

Born Jan.6, 1914, in Grand Rapids, Mich.,the son of Howard and Elizabeth Barcalow, he died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. 
A resident of Richmond, Va.,having moved there from Reece, Mich., Howard was a business manager for the Reece Public Schools for 25 years prior to retirement.He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II.He was a member of the Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond and the Reece Rotarian Club of Reece. 
Survivors include his wife, Marian, whomhe married in 1940; daughters, Mary Jane (Stan) Barcalow Holat of Elgin and Donna (Robert) Barcalow Morey of Holegate, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Barcalowin 1967, in Vietnam; twin brother, Harold Barcalow; and sister, Ida Lenwell.

Gregory Michael Delowery Sr.
A funeral Mass for Gregory Michael Delowery Sr., 56, of Palatine, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine, Inverness. 
Born Dec.22, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pa., he died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, in Munich, Germany.  Burial will be in St.Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. 
He was a captain with Delta Airlines and had worked for Delta for 30 years.  A graduate of St.Joseph's College in Philadelphia, he served as a captain in the Air Force from 1963 to 1968.A dear friend to all who knew him, his kindness and humor will remain in our hearts forever. 
Survivors include wife, Judith Ann (nee Dinsmore); children, Gregory Michael Delowery Jr., Kelly Ann (Matthew) Bireley and Heather Marie Delowery; and his faithful dog, Bailey. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret.

Richard W.`Gus' Gustafson

Clovis A. Hastings

Born March 25, 1916, in Rush Hill, Mo., to William and Nettie (nee Knobel) Stuart, she passed away Sunday, July 12, 1998, at her home.

Mrs.Hastings was a member of Faith Church of the Brethren in Batavia.  She was also a volunteer for the Fox Valley Hospice since 1981 and a member of the Women of the Moose, Batavia Chapter #722. 
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Duaine) Millett of Brighton, Colo.and Marjorie (Dennis) Miller of Batavia; son, Curtis (Andrea) Hastings of Oak Park; grandchildren, Terri, Beth, Brian, Todd and Gabrielle; and seven great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Lee Stuart of Hannibal, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil A.Hastings, whom she married Jan.30, 1940, in Aurora.

Mr.Holzbauer had been a resident of Elgin since 1989.Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Danley Machine Corporation.Mr.Holzbauer was also an Army veteran.

Frank M. Jirsa
Services for Frank M.Jirsa, 81, former Lombard village president and resident of Lombard for more than 75 years, will be held at 11 a.m.Thursday, at First Church of Lombard.  The Rev. Kimberly Wood will officiate. 
Mr. Jirsa died Monday, July 13, at home.Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn. 
Mr. Jirsa had been a resident of Lombard since 1922.  He attended Lincoln School and was a 1934 graduate of Glenbard High School.He attended Loyola of the South in New Orleans, La.  For more than 30 years, Mr.Jirsa was the owner of an ad agency.He had been a member of First Church of Lombard for more than 75 years and had formerly served as head of the Memorial Committee. 
In the 1940s and 1950s Mr.Jirsa had started the Lombard Bulldogs Football League and also played semipro football for the Glen Ellyn Reds.During the 1940s he had also owned and operated the Jirsa Ice Cream Shop at 123 W.St.Charles Road in Lombard.  In addition, he had started the Interested Teen Club in Lombard and was a fiscal agent and adviser for it in the 1950s.  Recently he had turned over $32,000 to the Lombard YMCA Scholarship Committee from monies invested for the club.  He was also active in the Glenbard West and Glenbard East After the Prom Parties from 1959 to 1964. 
From 1973 to 1977, Mr.Jirsa served as the village president of Lombard. 
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jirsa (nee Scott); children, Mary Lee Green of Miami Shores, Fla.,Carol Lynn (Patrick) O'Brien of Bettendorf, Iowa and Jeanne Louise (David) Waterloo of Lombard; grandchildren, Aimee (Scott) Blumsteinand Matthew Green of Florida, John, Erin and Katie O'Brien of Iowa, and Marc, Nicole and Brian Waterloo of Lombard; great-granddaughter, Hayley; sister, Martha Gustafson of Lombard; and many other relatives. 
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Alfred and Edward Jirsa.

A 27 year resident of the area, he was licensed as areal estate salesman in 1975, and as a real estate broker in 1984.He was former owner of Blue Ribbon Realty of Dundee and former manager of ColdwellBanker Realty since 1994.In 1994, Mr.Lerner was president of the Elgin Area Association of Realtors and Realtor Man of the Year in 1995.He was active in the Illinois Association of Realtors where he served on many state committies and was vice president of District 4. 
He served as a real estate instructor at Elgin Community College and several other schools throughout the State of Illinois and was a former employee of Trans World Airlines. 
Survivors include his sons, Thomas (Robin) Castle of Hammond, Ind. and Michael Lerner of Alpharetta, Ga.;daughter, Rebecca Lerner of Alpharetta, Ga.;grandchildren, Zachary and Courtney Castle; sisters, Judith Raye Frey of Bellevue, Wash.and Paulette Lerner of Chicago; and mother, Ruth Lerner of Chicago.

Curtis Meland

Born Jan.8, 1918, in Wellsburg, N.D., he died Saturday, July 11, 1998, in Show Low, Ariz.Interment will follow the services, in Ivanhoe Cemetery. 
A retired major general of the Army, Mr.Meland had lived in Mundelein from 1946 to 1979.He was the president of the Meland Association of Architect-Engineers. 
He was also a member of the Community Protestant Church, the Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge in Libertyville, and the past president of both the Libertyville High School board and the board of directors for Condell Hospital. 
Surviving are his children, Rae Raymer of California, Terry (Beverly) Meland of Evanston, Tim (Carole) Meland of Mundelein and Randi (Michael) Mathis of Fox Lake; brother, Gilbert (Doris) Meland of Virginia; sisters, Fern (Herb) Sellie of Washington, Norma (Norman) Rudel of North Dakota and Sharon (Wesley) Beuchler of North Dakota; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fern Meland.

She had been the owner of a grocery store in Burlington, living there for 20 years before coming to Crystal Lake in 1994. 
She was the wife of the late Charles W.Miller, whom she married in 1942, and who preceded her in 1993; mother of Richard (Mary) Miller of Paso Robles, Calif. and Suzanne (Raymond) Dunn of Algonquin; sister of Oscar (Dorothy) Sigurdson of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandmother of six; great-grandmother of three; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

C. Hazel Miller
Services for C. Hazel Miller (nee Kaehler), 88, of Wheeling, formerly of Deerfield, will be held at 11 a.m. 
Wednesday, at North Northfield United Methodist Church, 797 Sanders Rd., Northbrook, IL 60062.She will lie in state from 10 a.m.until the time of services. 
Born June 27, 1910, in Chicago, she died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Glenbrook Hospital.  Burial will be in North Northfield Cemetery. 
A homemaker, she was a active member of the North Northfield United Methodist Church since 1927. 
She was the wife of the late Maurice Miller; mother of Elaine Lang, Connie (Bob) Campbell and the late Mary (Ted) Bieniasz; sister of Marjorie Glade; grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of 31; and greatgreat-grandmother of two.

Arthur R. Schmidt 
Funeral services for Arthur R. Schmidt, 87, of McHenry, formerly of Libertyville, will begin at 9:30 a.m. 
Thursday, at McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Place, Liberryville, and continue with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Libertyville. 
Mr. Schmidt died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at home.Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery. 
Mr. Schmidt retired from the Chicago Tribune where he had been manager of the data processing department.He had been a resident of McHenry for the past 25 years and while living in Libertyville had been a member of St. Joseph Parish. 
Survivors include his children, George (Patricia) Schmidt of Washington, Raymond Schmidt of Washington, William (Wendy) Schmidt of Arizona and Sheila (R.Gregory) Thickpenny of Libertyville; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Clara Wilson of Washington. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice (nee Mills), in 1991; and son, Jim (Patricia) Schmidt.

Harvey Charles Carothers Sr.
Funeral services for Harvey Charles Carothers Sr., 90, will be held at 1 p.m.today, at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd.,1216 5th Ave., Moline.
Born Nov. 24, 1907, in Felton, Minn., he died Friday, July 10, 1998, at River Park Nursing Home, Rock Island.   Interment will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery. 
At age 18, Harvey started a six year career as a welter weight boxer.  A Navy veteran, he married Hertha K.`Hettie' Schild in Clinton, Iowa, on June 29, 1929.   In 1936, he was appointed as a member of the Moline Fire Department and advanced his ranks from Lieutenant to Captain and then to Assistant Fire Chief.   He was made Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau, before leaving the Moline Fire Department to accept the position in 1958, as the first paid Fire Chief of Arlington Heights, heading a six paid, 23 volunteer fire department.   He taught a fire prevention class at the University of Illinois for three years and was also president of the Illinois Fire Chief's Association.   Before retiring at age 65, Chief Carothers headed a team of 65 firefighters. 
His retirement years were enjoyed traveling with his wife, Hettie. 
Survivors include his children, Donald (Janet) Carothers of Moline and Linda (Jim) Houdek of Palatine; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucille Wilson of Moline. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hettie on Feb.28, 1998; son, Harvey Jr.on Feb.16, 1987; and brothers and sisters. 
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services today, at the funeral home.

Zenas Sullivan 
Services for Zenas Sullivan, 72, of Elgin, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.

Born Oct. 21, 1925, in Elgin, to Zenas A. and Gladys (nee Kilgore) Sullivan, he died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Sherman Hospital.   Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. 
A resident of Elgin all of his life, Mr.Sullivan had been employed by CBN Television Service for 11 years and Simpson Electric Company for 26 years, before retiring in 1988.  A veteran, he served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a member of VFW Post #1307 and American Legion Post #57.  He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elgin and the Golden K Kiwanis Club. 
Survivors include his wife, Marie Sullivan (nee Michel), to whom he was married in 1958; daughters, Mary Ann (Bob) Myers of Streamwood and Carol Sullivan of Elgin; son, Richard Sullivan of Elgin; grandchildren, Shawna and Brittney Myers; sister, Barbara Anderson of Elgin; and niece, Patricia (Clark) Houghtby. 
He was preceded in death by his parents. 
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m.until the time of services Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Mrs.Zimmerman was a eucharistic minister and active in the ministry of care at St. Edna Church.  She also volunteered her time at Northwest Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Zimmerman.
