Lorie L. James
KELLOGG - Lorie L. James, 42, of Kellogg, died of congestive heart
failure Wednesday, June 27 [2001], at Iowa Methodist Medical Center
in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral
Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Cremation will follow
the service.
Friends may call after noon Sunday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home
in Newton where family will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials will
be accepted at the funeral home in her name.
The daughter of Rodger K. and Rose Ruple James, she was born Aug. 11,
1958, in rural Newton. She was a 1976 graduate of Newton Senior High School.
She lived in Long Beach, Calif., from 1963 to 1969, and also lived in Newton
and Kellogg. She married Rick LaRose in 1995 in Newton. Ms. James was a
member of Eagles Lodge in Grinnell and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Josh Woodard of Woodward; her
parents of Newton; maternal grandfather, Kenneth Ruple; and many aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, paternal grandparents,
a niece and a nephew in infancy.
Jean P. Von Seggern
Jean P. Von Seggern, 73, of 304 W. 14th St. S. died of cancer Monday,
Aug. 20 [2001], at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Family
Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Matthew Martens, pastor of the First
Lutheran Church of Newton officiating. The body was cremated.
The family will visit with friends following the memorial service with
a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to First
Lutheran Church, Hospice of Jasper County or to the American Cancer Society,
and may be left at the funeral home.

Wednesday, Oct. 31 [2001], at her home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Congregational
United Church of Christ in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical
Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Wallace

Friday, Dec. 21 [2001], at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in
Osceola with Pastor Brian Hardee and Pastor Kenneth Van Loon officiating.
Burial will be at Smyma Cemetery in Clarke County.
Visitation will be Wednesday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home and from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with the family prior to services.

William M. "Bill" Schafer, 78, of 503 E. 19th St. S. died of heart
failure Friday, Feb. 8 [2002], at his home. Wallace Family Funeral

John F. Cannon
PACE, Fla. - John F. Cannon, 78, of Pace, Fla., formerly of Newton,
died June 17 [2001] in a local hospital in Pace, Fla.
Funeral services were held June 21 at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel
in Milton, Fla., with the Rev. John Webb officiating. Burial was at Milton
Cemetery.
A native of Newton, he graduated from Newton Senior High School in
1940. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, was a member
of the Elks Lodge #2377 and Moose Lodge #557, and attended Pace United
Methodist Church. He had been a resident of Pace for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Katherine; a son, Kevin of
Dalton, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kevin Avery of Pace,
Fla.; three grandchildren; four brothers, Dolar of Ames, Harlan of Colfax,
Floyd of Oceanside, Calif., and Bruce of Cottonwood, Calif.; and several
nieces and nephews.

Eugene E. McDonald, 75, of 1024 E. 9th St. N. died of respiratory arrest
Friday, Nov. 2 [2001], at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Reese Chapel in Newton
with the Rev. James Holmes of Des Moines officiating. Burial will be in
the Veterans' Section of Newton Union Cemetery at a later date. Reese Funeral
