Funeral services for William "Merlin" Rutledge were held Friday, March 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport, conducted by the Rev. Tom Martin.
Mr. Rutledge died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Elkader Care Center.

Funeral service for Alfred Borrett, 90, were held Saturday, March 31 [2001], at 11:00 a.m. at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by the Rev. Penny Hansel.
Mr. Borrett died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, following a brief illness.

RALPH C. BOARDMAN
Ralph Cyril Boardman, 68, of Guttenberg and Mission, Texas, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 in Mission.
Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Guttenberg with burial in the Bethel Cemetery near Osterdock.
Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Helen H. Deutmeyer, 84, of Luxemburg died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Friends called from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where the Rosary Society recited the rosary at 4:00 p.m. and the Parish Scripture Service was held at 7:30 p.m.

Andrae Lee Werges, 19, of rural Elkader, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a long illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Richard Gaul. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo, with the following casket bearers: Zach Thein, Tim Kuenzel, John Vorwald, Austin Fischer, Richard Crow and Abby Davis.

MILDRED P. "BRIDGET" RIESELMAN
Mrs. Mildred P. "Bridget" Rieselman, 90, of Ennoble Manor Care Center, 2000 Pasadena Drive, Dubuque formerly of 3030 White St., died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the care center.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, with burial in the Guttenberg (Iowa) City Cemetery. Friends called after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Earl Edward Meyer, 87, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg.
Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Fern Anna Walther, 86, of Mason City (formerly of Elkader) died on Friday morning, March 16, 2001 at Mercy Health Center, Mason City, following a brief illness.

Helena "Helen," Troester 88, of Guttenberg died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Services were conducted by Msgr. John McClean at 10:00 a.m., March 12, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg.

Frank Vincent Baxter, 95, of Hernando Fla. and Garnavillo, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the Citrus Memorial Hospital in Hernando, Fla., after a short illness.
Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.

Claire Corinne Konzen died shortly after birth Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at 3:53 p.m. her twin, Colten Leo Konzen, was stillborn Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at 4:01 a.m., at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, twins of Andrew and Rose (Leliefeld) Konzen, of 102 5th Ave. NW, Farley, Iowa.

Raymond L. Gerner, 82, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Guttenberg, died Feb. 22, 2001.

CHRIST BECKER
Christ Becker, 75, of Cedar Falls, a former Guttenberg resident, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.
Services will be scheduled at a later date. There was no visitation.

JAMES C. CUMMINGHAM
James C. Cunningham, 71, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic Service.

Cyril M. Gassmann, 88, of Dyersville, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Oak Crest Manor Nursing Home, Dyersville.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends called Feb. 19 at the Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there was a parish scripture service. Friends also called at the Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, before services on Tuesday.

Vernon R. "Butch" Hess, 74, of Yma, Ariz., formally of North Buena Vista, died Feb. 12, 2001. Burial will be in the Holy Cross, Cemetery.

George J. Menge, 66, of Greeley died Monday evening, Feb. 12, 2001 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services were conducted by Rev. Jim Roth at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the United Methoidst Church, Greeley. Music was by Burdette Conner and Chris Jackson.

HELEN M. MEYERS
Helen M. Meyers, 97, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a short illness.
Private services were held at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

WILLIAM FRED HAUSCHILD
William Fred Hauschild, son of Chad and Susan (Gage) Hauschild of rural Edgewood, was stillborn on Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at St. John's Congregational Church in Garber. Rev. Charles Pasker will officiate. Burial will follow in the East Side Cemetery in Elkader.

CHARLES "CHUCK" OELBERG
Charles "Chuck" William Oelberg, 81, of Guttenberg, formerly of the Lima area, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, funeral home.

ELISA LYNN ERTL
Elisa Lynn Ertl, two day old infant twin daughter of Tom and Lynn Ertl of Guttenberg became one of God's angels at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 at the U of I Hospitals and Clinics.

GREGORY "GREGG" G. ENGELKEN
Gregory "Gregg" G. Engelken, 36, 212 Greeves Street, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., as the result of an industrial accident.
He was born July 11, 1964, in Dubuque, a son of David and Ramona Vorwald Engelken. On June 14, 1986, in Edgewood, he married Joyce Venteicher who survives.

JOHN H. GASHWILER
John H. Gashwiler, 92, a long-time resident of Halfway, Ore., died Friday, Jan. 6, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Health Services. His wife, Renelda, son, John Jr., and daughter-in-law, Kathy were with him during the hours of passing.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Presbyterian Church in Halfway, with Reverend Bill Shields officiating.

EVELYN A. SCHEFFERT
Evelyn A. Scheffert, 92, of Guttenberg died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Services were conducted by Rev. Richard Gaul at 10:30 am. Monday, Feb. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Guttenberg.

CARROLL HOWARD MEADE
Carroll Howard Meade, 51, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Colesburg, died Jan. 21, 2001 in his home at 1400 2nd Ave. S.E. in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Memorial Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday Feb. 3, at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg. Rev. Scott Kisker officiated. Inurnment was in Zion Cemetery, rural Colesburg.

BRADLEY "BRAD" BISSELL
Bradley "Brad" Bissell, 44, of Monona died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis.
Services were conducted by Rev. Chris Staley at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Organist was Mrs. Judy Walter.
Visitation was Friday at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona.

EUGENE "GENE" AMANN
Eugene "Gene" Amann, 71, died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at his home in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, on July 9.

Lorraine A. (Buechel) Ahlers, 87, of Medina, Ohio, formerly of Cuyahogan Falls, passed away Friday, July 6, 2001 at Copley Health Center.

Delbert L. Nieland, 55, of Guttenberg died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a short illness.
Services were conducted by Rev. Paul Peters at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg.

IRENE "RENE" ADAMS
Mrs. Larry (Irene V. "Rene") Adams, 88, of Ennoble Manor, Dubuque, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2001 at Ennoble Manor. She was formerly of 801 Davis St., Dubuque, and North Buena Vista.
Services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque, with burial in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Sherrill.

EDNA P. WEHMEYER
Edna P. Wehmeyer (nee Noggle), 97, of Milwaukee, Wis., died Saturday, June 30, 2001.
Interment was in Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Arnold Burr, 92, of Garnavillo died Sunday, June 17, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a scripture wake service at 7 p.m. at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

EVELYN LYNCH
Evelyn Lynch, 97, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at her home in Garnavillo.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 14, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Garnavillo conducted by Father Richard Gaul. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, with the following pallbearers: Mary Drahn, David Nieland, Dennis Nieland, Tracy Johnson, Dean Nieland, and Donnie Nieland. Teresa Graham was an honorary pallbearer.

SHIRLEY NIELAND
Shirley Nieland, 65, of Oelwein, wife of Joseph Nieland, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at an Oelwein hospital.
Services were held June 22 at Sacred Heart Church, Oelwein.

Richard Walter Bond, 35, of Colesburg, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at his home.
Memorial services were held Friday, June 22, at the Colesburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Kisker officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery, Colesburg.

Arthur L. Palmer, 91, of Guttenberg died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg and were conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin.

GERALDINE A. OSTERKAMP
Geraldine A. Osterkamp, 64, of Guttenberg died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a sudden illness.
Services were conducted by Msgr. John McClean at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg with burial in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Leliefeld, Jeff Tjaden, Ben Tjaden and Rick Tuttle.
Visitation was at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Elias J. Hall, 77, of Guttenberg died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Knoxville Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
Services were held Tuesday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garber and were conducted by Rev. Richard Gaul.

Christopher Rodenberg, 24, of Guttenberg died Sunday evening, June 17, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. John Lutheran Church with visitation from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Violet L. Nelson, 84, of Edgewood died Friday, June 8, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a brief illness. Services were conducted by Rev. Kenton L. Troyer at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Edgewood Bible Church. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery, rural Colesburg, with the following casket bearers: Rick Lewin, Frank Corson, Alan Corson, Eugene Knutsen, Rodney Thein and Dennis Thein.

Delbert D. Oldham, 75, of 110 Marshall Lane, Williamsport, Pa., died Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Williamsport Hospital.

Marina E. Hess, 68, of 3730 Pennsylvania Ave., Dubuque, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation was Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, Dubuque, where a scripture wake service was held.

Mrs. Alois (Agnes) F. Lansing, 93, of New Vienna, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Guttenberg Care Center in after a brief illness.
Friends called Monday, June 4, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where the Altar and Rosary Society Rosary and the Parish Scripture Service were recited.

Gilbert Henry Marting, age 86, died at Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas, Nev., on May 29, 2001.

Cyril J. Meyer, 85, died May 22, 2001. Services were conducted by Father Clair Boes and U.S. Army Chaplain Major Robert Meyer in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sibley. Pallbearers were Mark Meyer, Robert Jacoby, Scott Huisenga, Gerald Schenke, Brad Huisenga and Joel Kolker.

Evelyn M. Stone, 86, of Guttenberg died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the Guttenberg Care Center following a long illness. Services will be Wednesday, May 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Central City.

Charlene G. Horstman, 62, died Friday, may 4, 2001, at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque after a sudden illness. Services were conducted by Rev. John J. Friederick at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, at St. Patrick's Church in Colesburg.

Letha (Overbeck) Bedenschatz, 89, of Carroll, formerly of Guttenberg, died March 3, 2001. The cremains were interred at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Rosalyn L. Rolfe, 77, of Guttenberg, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a short illness.

Aloysius "Al" Sodawasser, 72, of Rock Falls, Ill., formerly of Guttenberg, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center following an extended illness.

Chester Lavern Voss of Waterloo passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at the Iowa Veterans Home at Marshalltown of a chronic illness. He was 77 years of age.

Mildred M. Strader, 91, of Guttenberg died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Services were conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at St. John Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

NEIL F. HANSEL
Neil F. Hansel, 60, of Streetman, Texas, died April 18, 2001, at the East Texas medical Center in Tyler, Texas. He had resided in Streetman since 1982.
Following cremation, memorial services were conducted by Rev. Tom Connally and Rev. Mitzi George at lakeside United Methodist Church, St. Elmo, Texas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21.

EVELYN A. NAGEL
Evelyn A. (Jungblut) Nagel, 84, of Dubuque, a Guttenberg native, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at St. Mary's Apartments in Dubuque.
Services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dubuque on the following Saturday with burial in Linwood Cemetery.

VIOLET E. RICKETTS
Violet E. Ricketts, 100, died April 2, 2001, at her home, 1502 S.E. 95th Ave., Vancouver,Wash. A memorial service was held at Northcrest Community Church on Friday, April 6, with a dinner provided for guests after the service, prior to the entombment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver.

WALTER M. BOVIS
Walter Matthew Bovis, 78, of 3217 Woodlea Drive, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at his residence in Greensboro, N.C. He was formerly of Elgin and Guttenberg.
Funeral services for Mr. Bovis were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel in Greensboro.

CAROLYN (MILLS) BRITT
Word has been received by Betty Kuhlman that Carolyn (Mills) Britt, passed away at her home March 22, 2001, in Brighton, Colo. She was 59 years of age and died of a massive heart attack.
Funeral services were held on March 28 at the Aspen Mortuary in Lakewood, Colo.

Howard J. Hockett, 91, a former Guttenberg resident, died April 9, 2001, at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and were conducted by Rev. Roland Pillack of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Des Moines. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcolm.

Mabel M. Patzner Thompson, 97, of Dubuque and a former Guttenberg resident, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at The Church of the Nativity, Dubuque. Burial was in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Guttenberg.
