Hoyt Alexander
BLAIRSVILLE – Hoyt Jessie Alexander died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville following a sudden illness.
He was 84.
Mr. Alexander was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Union County, the son of the late Ed Alexander and the late Hattie Hunter Alexander.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a veteran of the United States Air Force in World War II.
He had owned and operated Alexander’s Store since the early 1950s.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Laura Dyer Alexander; brother, Jimmy Alexander; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Gibson. Mr. Alexander was a member and deacon of Old Liberty Baptist Church. 
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gary York, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddy and Sandy Alexander, Blairsville; Jim and Helen Alexander, Germany; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Martha Alexander, Blairsville; sister, Bernice Gibson, Blairsville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. 
Funeral services were held Sunday at Old Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Harley Hunter and the Rev. Jerry Young officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery. 
Mountain View Funeral Home, Blairsville, had charge of arrangements. 

Ola Payne Carson
CORNELIA – Ola Payne Carson died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness. She was 91.
Born in Habersham County on Oct. 20, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Enoch and Etta Morris Payne.
She was a homemaker and a member of Good News Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Carson; brother, the Rev. John Payne; and sisters, Alice Zimmerman, Vedia Carr and Lovella Gulley.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Syvilla and Clay Poole, Cornelia, Rita and Buford Wade, Cleveland, Ann and Henry Grant, Flowery Branch, Gail and Eddie Cobb, Westminster, S.C.; son, Kenneth Carson, Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Phyllis Carson, Mt. Airy; brothers, Joe Payne, Alto, Phil Payne, Cornelia; sisters, Daisy Rudeseal, Cornelia, Gladys Warren, Alto, Winnie Grizzle, Titusville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Good News Baptist Church with the Rev. Austin Kelley and the Rev. Neil King officiating.
Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

Bob Johnson Sr.
Robert ‘Bob’ Joseph Johnson Sr. of Cleveland died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was 74.
Mr. Johnson was born in New Orleans to the late William Joseph and Ruth Fortenelle Johnson.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  
Survivors include his wife, RoseMary Johnson, Cleveland; daughters, Deborah Hibbs, Lawrenceville, Sheryl Harvin, Snellville, Pamela Johnson, Covington, La.; sons, Robert Johnson Jr., Kenner, La., Keith Johnson, Steven Johnson, both of Cleveland; brother, Roger DeJean, Covington, La.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  
Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Thad Rudd officiated.
Burial followed in Yonah View Memorial Gardens. 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 1397 Helen Highway, Cleveland, Ga. 30528.

Evy Mae Nelms
Evy Mae Nelms of Cleveland died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 87. 
Mrs. Nelms was born in Towns County, the daughter of the late Jasper and Ollie Benefield, and was preceded in death by her husband, William Nelms.
She was a homemaker and member of Old Nacoochee Baptist Church. 
Survivors include her daughters, Opal Chastain, Sautee-Nacoochee, Juanita Welcome, Louisville; sons, Duel Nelms, William Nelms Jr., Fred Nelms, all of Cleveland; sisters, Lela Hopper, Cleveland, Ida Barrett, Hiawassee; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dave Fortner and the Rev. Kenneth Franklin will officiate.
Burial will be in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rose Thomas
Rose Marie Thomas of Cleveland died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Habersham Home following an extended illness.
She was 65.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Alabama to the late Clifford and Annie Kathleen Crosby and had lived in Cleveland for a number of years.
Survivors include her daughter, Holly Swing, Cleveland; sons, Andrew Thomas, Clarkesville, Steven Thomas, Craigsville, Va.; sisters, Patricia Cornell, Clarkesville, Karen Riddle, Cleveland; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. The Rev. John Bolton officiated.

Ruby Gresham
Ruby Annitine Gresham of Cleveland died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Gateway Healthcare Center following a period of declining health.
She was 93.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Alexander’s Gateway Chapel Funeral Home of Cleveland. 

Kristopher Addis
CLARKESVILLE – Krist-opher Ronald Addis died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center in Demorest from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was 17.
Born on Sept. 30, 1985, in Hall County, he lived all of his life in Habersham County.
He was junior at Habersham Central High School where he was active with the Habersham County Band of Blue, the FFA, and TCA.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Sautee.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Buford Benfield, and grandmother, Marie Walls Addis.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Cantrell, the Rev. Darrell Westmoreland, the Rev. Duane Eller and the Rev. Raymond Fortner officiating.
Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Lisa Benfield Addis, Clarkesville; sister, Hollie Addis, Clarkesville; maternal grandmother, MaryBelle Cantrell Benfield, Clarkesville; paternal grandparents, J.B. and Virginia Addis, Clarkesville.
Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, had charge of arrangements. 

Zachary Ansley
CLARKESVILLE – Zachary Lynn Ansley died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center in Demorest from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was 16.
Born on May 28, 1986, in Hall County, he lived all of his life in Habersham County.
He was a junior at Habersham Central High School, a member of the Band of Blue, FFA, Habersham County Show Team, and was the representative for FFA National Convention.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Autum Ansley, and grandfathers, Earl Sims and Harold Adams.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with the Rev. Dee Dillon officiating.
Burial will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Hollywood.
Survivors include his parents, Chris and Pennie Sims Ansley, Clarkesville; sister and brother-in-law, Menissa and Dexter Worley Jr., Clarkesville;
Also, his niece and nephew, Chelsey Lynne Worley and Austin Lee Worley; maternal grandmother, Jo Adams, Clarkesville; paternal grandparents, Lin and Coralee Ansley, Cornelia.
Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, has charge of arrangements.

Frank Eller
Frank Eller of Cleveland died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 44.
Born in Rabun County on Sept. 13, 1958, he was a restaurant worker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his caretakers, Kay and Jerry Thomas, Gainesville; and friends, Glenda and Kenny Nix, Cleveland, Neil and Mary Bromley, Homer.
Mr. Eller was cremated. No service will be held.

Donald Fields
Donald E. Fields of Cleveland died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness. He was 60.
Mr. Fields was born in Lumpkin County, the son of the late Eli and Nora Ray Fields. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church.
Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Hunt Fields.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Donna Fields, Randy and Rhonda Fields, Chad Fields, all of Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Joyce Fields, Dahlonega; sister, Betty Raines, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Morgan Fields, Sandy Thomas, Chad Benfield; great-grandchildren, Emily Helton, Hannah Thomas.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mt. View Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Dave Fortner and the Rev. Terry Head officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Melisse Lane
SNELLVILLE – Melisse Rivard Lane died Jan. 22, 2003, following a battle with cancer. She was 58.
Born in Manchester, Conn., on July 27, 1944, she spent most of her formative years in Lake Worth, Fla. She spent her young adulthood working as a hairdresser before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. She moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1983 and then to Snellville in 1985 where she worked at a flower shop.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Ken Lane; a son, Kenny, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna Lane and Will Carter, Gainesville, and Hielle Lane and Ken Ross, Atlanta; five grandchildren, Killian, Hunter, Hartley, Jackson and Joe; two sisters, Michelle and Mara Dee; and numerous friends and extended family, some in White County.
Memorials may be made to the pediatric department, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation at 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
Memorial services were held Tuesday at Unity Christ Church, Suwanee. The Rev. Steve Bolen officiated.
