Retired Sr. Master Sergeant Philip Randolph Cooke, 83, of Commerce,
died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the Georgia War Veterans Home, Augusta,

Mr. Cooke served in the U.S. Air Force in France (1945), Alaska (1946-47),
Berlin, Germany (1948-49) and Eniwetok Atoll (1951). His last overseas
tour was in Newfoundland (1954-57). Cooke was assigned to the New York
Air Defense Sector at McGuire in July 1957, where he served as a directorate

to a single operation. The effect of the computer was widespread since
the Bell Telephone Laboratory adopted its design. This computer was only
one of many inventions which Sr./M/Sgt. Cooke made and which are still
in wide use in the telecommunications world.

the Commerce Telephone Company known today as Alltel. Cooke retired from

Veterans Foreign War Post 5279. During his command, he was honored in 1973-74
