Mrs. Rosa Jane Silvers Richards
Mrs. Rosa Jane Silvers Richards, 91, of Mulberry St., Ellijay, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in the Gilmer Nursing Home,

Mrs. Richards was born October 31, 1909, in Gilmer County, the daughter of Noel Silvers and Rosa Jordon Silvers. She was a homemaker and member of the Berean Baptist Church.

She is survived by son-in-law, Emory Aaron, Dalton; grandchildren, Eddie and Carolyn Pierce, Mackey and Yvonne Pierce, Ricky Pierce, all of Ellijay, and Celia and Roy Kilby, Ringgold; seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Lillian Silver, Dalton; and brother, T.J. Silvers, Ellijay.

Services were Friday, June 15, at 3 p.m. from the Berean Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Parks and Rev. Lamar Payne officiating. Music was by the church choir.

Pallbearers were Brent Pierce, Roy Kilby, Mackey Pierce, Jr., Eddie Pierce, and Rick Searcy.

Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Clarence H. Farist

Mr. Clarence H. Farist, 75, of Yukon Rd., Ellijay, died Mon., June 18, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Farist was born April 12, 1926, in Gilmer County, the son of Tandy Farist and Ida Pritchett Farist. He was a retired supervisor from Robertshaw, a veteran serving with the U.S. Army and a member of the Turniptown Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Meadows Farist; daughter, Pat Barnard, Ellijay; son, Richard Farist, Marietta; granddaughters, Alison Barnard, Ellijay and Rachael Farist, Woodstock; brothers, Leeman Farist and Cleve Farist, both of Ellijay; sisters, Mary Chadwick, Ellijay, and Evelyn Garland, Woodstock.

Services will be held Thursday, June 21, at 2 p.m. from the Turniptown Baptist Church with Rev. Ervin Smith officiating. Music will be by the church choir.

Pallbearers will be George Hall, Sam Underhill, Loy Jarrett, Lloyd Weaver, Fred Cochran, Dave Parks, Mack Wood, and Vic Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Dotson and Junior Townsend.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.
 

Joseph A. Donehoo
Mr. Joseph A. Donehoo, 76, of Marietta, died Monday, June 11, 2001.

Mr. Donehoo attended Marietta City Schools and graduated from Marietta High School in 1942. After serving in Army Air Corps during World War II, he attended Georgia State University. He retired from Lockheed-Georgia Co., was an active member and deacon of Crestview Baptist Church and transferred to Mount Paran Church of God in 1980. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Sellers Donehoo.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah H. Donehoo; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and C.J. Hunter, Ky., sons and daughters-in-law, Jody and Cindy Donehoo, Va., Rodney and Erica Donehoo, Waleska, Michael Rice, Marietta, and Ken and Paula Rice, Kennesaw; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Charlie Smith.

Services were Thursday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at Mount Paran Central in Atlanta with Pastor Kent Hawkins officiating.

Interment was in the Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Paran Forward Fund.

Mrs. Mildred H. Creech
Mrs. Mildred H. Creech, 88, of Blue Ridge, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in the Blue Ridge Health Care Center in Blue Ridge.

Mrs. Creech was born in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Frank and Emma Flaig. She was the wife of the late Leland E. Creech, and worked as an accountant for the U.S. Army and was of the Lutheran faith.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barrett D. and Evon Creech of Cherry Log.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 18, in the Memorial Park in St. Charles, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Creech may be made to the American Red Cross of Gainesville, Ga.

Arnold Robert Fowler, Jr.

Mr. Arnold Robert Fowler, Jr., 58, of Twiggs Lane, Ellijay, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Fowler was born May 23, 1943, in Cherokee County, the son of Arnold and Gladys Brookshire Fowler. He was employed in the restaurant industry, was a veteran having served with the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Arnold and Gladys Fowler, Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Sammy Peacock, Canton; brothers and sisters-in law, Steve and Sally Fowler, Gainesville, and Tina and Lou Fowler, Canton.

Memorial services were Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 6 p.m. at the home with family and friends officiating.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Janice Carrie Smith Davenport

Mrs. Janice Carrie Smith Davenport, 97, of Smoke Mt. Ct., Talking Rock, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Davenport was born February 12, 1904, in Gilmer County, the daughter of Mont and Nora Johnson Smith. She was a housewife and member of the Turniptown Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Monte Davenport, Ellijay; stepdaughter, Lois Watters, Blue Ridge; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Graveside services were Sunday, June 24, at 5 p.m. from the Yukon Cemetery with Rev. Glen Arnold officiating.

Mrs. Wilma Jones Pritchett

Mrs. Wilma Jones Pritchett, 77, of Mt. Zion Rd., Ellijay, died Friday, June 22, 2001 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Pritchett was born November 3, 1923, in Fulton County, the daughter of Will and Ollie Davis Jones. She was a housewife, textile worker and cook, and a member of the Cartecay Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Pritchett.

She is survived by her daughters, Bobbie Burgess, Ellijay, Ann Burton, Florida, Joan King, Canton, and Sue Caylor, Dalton; son, Donnie Pritchett, Sr., Ellijay; sisters, Mary Colley, Marietta, Nannie Mae Chadwick, Chatsworth, Kathleen Eubanks, and Billie Sue Stedman, both of Marietta, and Eloise Bullock, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Services were Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Chadwick, and Rev. Arthur Lee Croft officiating. Music was by Irene Wofford.

Pallbearers were Donnie Pritchett, Jr., Greg King, Eric Macaulay, Andy Macaulay, Russell Evans, and Corey Hawkins.

Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Cecil Earl Crook

Mr. Cecil Earl Crook, 75, of Chatsworth, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Hamilton Medical Center.

Mr. Crook is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and J.D. King, Chatsworth; brother, Harley Crook, Chatsworth; and sisters-in-law, Annie Lee Crook and Laura Jane Sanford, all of Chatsworth.

Services were Monday, June 25, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Waddell and Rev. Roger Burgess officiating.

Interment was in the Crook-Sanford Cemetery.

Jerald Cecil Teague

Mr. Jerald Cecil Teague, 53, of Lewisburg, Tenn., died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, following a short illness.

Mr. Teague was a native of Ellijay, son of Cecil Albert Teague and Lavern Elizabeth Sutton Teague. He was a sawyer with Dalton Lumber for 18 years, and a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Smith Teague; son, Matthew Jerald Teague, Tennessee; daughters, Angela Grissom and Jennifer Teague, both of Tennessee; father, Cecil Albert Teague, Tennessee; brother, Phillip Teague, Tennessee; sisters, Helen Kinser and Lucille Mullinax, both of Ellijay, and Jeanette Cathey, Brenda Jackson, and Barbara Jackson, all of Tennessee.

Services were Saturday, June 24, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home.

Interment was in the Lone Oak Cemetery under the direction of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home of Lewisburg, Tenn.

Mrs. Katherine Sue Attaway

Mrs. Katherine Sue Attaway, 81, of Hwy. 382, Ellijay, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Attaway was born July 28, 1919, in Scottsboro, Ala., the daughter of John S. Edmonds and Willie Hollman Edmonds. She was a homemaker and the widow of Lee C. Attaway.

She is survived by 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Edmonds, Ellijay; and brother, Teddy Edmonds, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Carlene Edmonds, Florida.

Services were Tuesday, July 3, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Edmonds officiating. Music was by Irene Wofford.

Pallbearers were Franklin Crook, Buddy Hudgins, Jason Bradford, Tim Hughes, and Bill Bradford.

Interment was in the Flat Creek Church Cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.
 

Mrs. Betty Jean McArthur Teague
Mrs. Betty Jean McArthur Teague, 69, of Turniptown Rd., Ellijay, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Teague was born February 13, 1932, in Gilmer County, the daughter of Edgar and Belle Shepard McArthur. She was a housewife and member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Teague.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Linda Teague and Jerry and Susan Teague, all of Ellijay; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, July 3, at 4 p.m. from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Hensley and Rev. Russell Hood officiating. Music was by the church choir.

Pallbearers were David Teague, Adam Teague, Josh Teague, Robby Cantrell, R.D. Hopper, and Joey Patterson.

Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Danny L. Rutledge

Mr. Danny L. Rutledge, 54, of Rogers Creek Rd., Ellijay, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in the Hamilton Medical Center.

Mr. Rutledge was born April 2, 1947, in Gordon County, the son of James Rutledge and Mary Schuler Rutledge. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Damascus Baptist Church and was a supervisor for UPS.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Weaver Rutledge; children, Nick and Janice Rutledge, Resaca, and Crystal and Bart Nunley, Hiram; grandchildren, Cody and Ethan Rutledge; father, James Rutledge, Resaca; sister, Marisa Poarch, Resaca; and mother-in-law, Lexie Weaver, Ellijay.

Services were Saturday, June 30,at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. James Barfield, Edler Lawrence Mooney and Elder Paul Mooney officiating. Singing was by the Tickanetley Primitive Baptist Church choir.

Pallbearers were Kent Babb, Mark Bailey, Eddie Whitfield, Ed Sitten, Doug Hyatt, and Sam Barfield.

Honorary pallbearers were UPS employees.

Interment was in the Tickanetley Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kittie Margaret Ray Garrett

Mrs. Kittie Margaret Ray Garrett, 83, of Old Highway 5, Ellijay, died Monday, June 25, 2001, in the North Georgia Medical Center.

She was born February 28, 1918, in Gilmer County, the daughter of Monroe Marion Ray and Bammie Elizabeth Aaron Ray. She was a textile worker, and a member of Northcutt Baptist Church since 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Garrett.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Garrett Holt, and Idell and Melvin Teasley, all of Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law, James and Pamella Garrett, Ellijay; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Laura Mae Garrett, Dalton.

Services were Thursday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at Northcutt Baptist Church with Rev. H.T. James and Rev. A.J. Clayton officiating. Music was by Irene Wofford and Donald Ray Lunsford.

Pallbearers were Lance Teasley, Elijah Henry, Lee Teasley, Jermy Garrett, Kevin Garrett, Denny Garrett, Steve Childs, Jerry Chastain, Stephen Simpson, Shaun Kilgore, Phillip Bell, and Larry Parker.

Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Logan Funeral Home.
 

L.M. (Cowboy) Vick
Mr. L.M. (Cowboy) Vick, 75, of Cedartown, died Saturday, June 30,2001.

Mr. Vick was born in Gilmer County, was a retired diesel mechanic for the Greyhound buslines and a member of Yorkville Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran having served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Jordan, Cedartown; son, Joe Larry Vick, Bowdon; daughters, Glenda Aileen Key, Douglasville, Mary Margaret Robbins, Cedartown, Marie Mildred Key, Cartersville, and Brenda Kay Henry, Cedartown; stepsons, Edward Stoe and Forrest Mordan both of Hiram; stepdaughters, Joan Wortor, Texas, Paulette Harris, Austell, and Bonnie Crowe, Rockmart; sisters, Helen McCollum, Ellijay, Pearline Jenkins, Mableton; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and 22 step great grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. from the Yorkville Baptist Church with Rev. L.A. Tapp officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Bellamy Funeral Home of Hiram.

Howard Silvers
Mr. Howard Silvers, 70, of Martinsville, Ind., died in Indiana.

Mr. Silvers was a native of Gilmer County, and the son of Lucian and Ethel Barrett Silvers.

He is survived by his wife; four children; seven grandchildren; and local survivors including, sister, Eulene Sanford, Ellijay; and brother, Gene Silvers, Buford.

Services and interment was in Martinsville.

Ed Adam Watkins
Mr. Ed Adam Watkins, 74, of Cherrylog Street, Cherry Log, died Tuesday, July 2, 2001, in the North Georgia Medical Center.

Mr. Watkins was born April 19, 1927, in Gilmer County, the son of James William Watkins and Lottie Lou Mann Watkins. He was a retiree of the U.S.D.A as a federal food inspector, member of Cherry Log Baptist Church, and a veteran having served in the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Glen Waters, East Ellijay, and Tammy Watkins, Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, J.L. and Gevenia Watkins, Ellijay; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susie and G.B. Hobson, and Lana and Virgil Trammell, all of Ellijay; brother and sisters-in-law, William G. and Andrea Watkins, Texas, and Ellaree Watkins, Ellijay; special cousins, Ernest and Barbara Watkins, Cherry Log.

Services will be Thursday, July 5, at 4 p.m. at the Cherry Log Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Thomas and Rev. Kenneth Mann officiating. Music will be by Renne Watkins and Charles Farmer.

Pallbearers are Mike Watkins, Scott Watkins, Joseph James, Jim Robinson, James Young, Danny Key, Robert Lee Mann, H.L. Mann, Joe Charles, Kenneth Chastain, Joe Chancey, Reed Chancey and Ralph Chancey.

Interment will be in the Underwood Cemetery under the direction of Logan Funeral Home.
 

Mrs. Sara Carter Ray Wilkins
Mrs. Sara Carter Ray Wilkins, 79, of Rainbow Mountain Dr., Ellijay, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the North Georgia Medical Center.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bernley E. and Osa Martens, Ellijay; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the family plot in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.

Arrangements were by Logan Funeral Home.
 

Roy G. Reece
Mr. Roy G. Reece, 75, of Covington, died Sunday, July 1, 2001.

Mr. Reece a native of Gilmer County, was the son of Jasper Monroe and Nancy Angeline Lowman Reece. He was a self-employed drywall contractor with Reece Drywall Company and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Ethridge Reece.

He is survived by his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, William and Virginia Ethridge, Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Angus and Gertrude Reece, Ellijay, Emmett and Louise Reece, Monroe; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and three great- great grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, July 5, at 2 p.m. in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Waddell and Rev. Ted Dunagan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Snellville under the direction of Tim Stewart Funeral Home of Lawrenceville.
